00:00:00Good morning, hey, it's a special edition of MLB Central, we're on the road, it's me, it's Lauren, it's Dero
00:00:07in the back, and then there's our driver Hassan, who apparently chose violence this morning, but he saved us a
00:00:15lot of time.
00:00:16Hey, coming up, hold up, we gotta, am I supposed to be horizontal?
00:00:19Yeah, first day on TV.
00:00:21Alright, coming up, at Yankee Stadium, live, Aaron Boone, who else?
00:00:27Kate Smith, Kate Schlittler.
00:00:28Oh, hello, Miss Lady.
00:00:29Kate, and Steve, no, not Stephen Vogt, no, not Stephen Vogt, Cam Schlittler.
00:00:35Read the rundown one time, Lauren.
00:00:37I think we're getting Stephen Vogt.
00:00:38Alright, so on the road, MLB Central.
00:00:41I'm not gonna air this, this is bad.
00:00:42Roll the open.
00:00:44Roll it, just go ahead and roll it.
00:01:02It is a picture-perfect early June day in the Bronx, ideal for an afternoon baseball game,
00:01:09two of the American League's best getting together right here, heaven, Yankee Stadium, MLB Central,
00:01:14presented by Home Depot.
00:01:16We are on the road, Yankees hosting the Guardians.
00:01:18You can watch it right here on MLB Network.
00:01:21We're hanging out pregame.
00:01:23Good morning.
00:01:24Welcome inside.
00:01:25Good morning.
00:01:26Rocking into Yankee Stadium.
00:01:26Just hits different.
00:01:27You always say it, look at Dero.
00:01:28Basking in the sun.
00:01:30What a beautiful day, huh?
00:01:31Good Thursday morning to you.
00:01:32Absolutely gorgeous.
00:01:33Everyone knows I hate the weather in this part of the country, but give this credit,
00:01:38because this is a beautiful day.
00:01:39You don't make it through the entire two hours with that jacket on.
00:01:42It's so nice.
00:01:43Well, it's a light jacket.
00:01:44Is it?
00:01:44Yeah, it's light.
00:01:44We got here in a hurry thanks to Hassan, our driver.
00:01:47He was...
00:01:48Hassan was standing on business.
00:01:50He was standing on business.
00:01:52And then we walked into Yankee Stadium, and we're going to have to ask Aaron Boone about
00:01:55this.
00:01:56What did we see, Robert?
00:01:57Tell him.
00:01:57Saw a roach.
00:01:59A flying roach.
00:02:00It amazes me.
00:02:01It, like, creeps you out that bad.
00:02:03You just let it live.
00:02:05Oh, my God.
00:02:06Look at that.
00:02:06Stop.
00:02:08I'm not a big fan of snakes.
00:02:11Bugs and spiders, they don't do it.
00:02:13I don't like any of those that you just mentioned.
00:02:16No, no.
00:02:17Spiders, snakes.
00:02:18No, no, no.
00:02:19You always say walking in here felt different.
00:02:22Old Yankee Stadium, new Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.
00:02:24If you don't think we have...
00:02:26You've got to bring your best.
00:02:27...your first at-bats in the Bronx.
00:02:30What?
00:02:30Yeah, what?
00:02:31I don't like to put my highlights out there.
00:02:33You don't have to.
00:02:34I'm going to.
00:02:35This is why I love game, and I'm sure your dad had things to say.
00:02:38Knowing you for a decade, what do you say?
00:02:41Oh, we're going back to 2001.
00:02:44There was two...
00:02:45All right.
00:02:46There's two outs in the ninth at Old Yankee Stadium.
00:02:48I had just gotten called up to the big leagues here.
00:02:52Brian Boringer was the pitcher.
00:02:54Two outs.
00:02:54I think I'm going to get a nice at-bat against Boringer, who I had faced in AAA.
00:02:58You're feeling good?
00:02:59So I wasn't going to be as nervous.
00:03:01No.
00:03:02Joe Torre comes out.
00:03:04Summons enter Sandman.
00:03:06I look up in the family section.
00:03:08My brother's giving me the, like, you can do this.
00:03:10My dad's got his head in his hands.
00:03:12Telling me, we all know how this story ends for you, Mark.
00:03:15How did the story end for you, Mark?
00:03:17Punch out.
00:03:18Threw it through the cutter.
00:03:21Hollowed out my rib and then was a straight, was strike three.
00:03:25Yeah.
00:03:25But seriously, Joe Torre, he did me dirty.
00:03:28Did you have any kind of, I can't believe I'm in this batter's box right now?
00:03:31Mr. Shep.
00:03:32So I used to come six, seven games a year as a kid with my dad.
00:03:35Yeah.
00:03:36He said your name.
00:03:37Old Yankee Stadium.
00:03:38And Mr. Shepard was on the house call.
00:03:41Derek Jeter, number two.
00:03:43Derek Jeter.
00:03:44Exactly.
00:03:45Don Mattingly, number 23.
00:03:47That's cool, man.
00:03:48So I made a point to call time, step out, and listen to him announce it.
00:03:53That's nice.
00:03:54That was a full circle.
00:03:56So cool.
00:03:56We are going to have plenty of guests.
00:03:58Can't wait to visit with Aaron Boone and Kate Smith, the Guardians closer, and Kemp Schlittler as well.
00:04:04That's all ahead on a jam-packed edition of MLB Central.
00:04:08Let's go here.
00:04:09Last night, take you back a beautiful night for baseball in the Bronx, in New York.
00:04:14You had the Yankees playing.
00:04:15You had the Knicks on a separate TV.
00:04:16This place is crazy.
00:04:18I had all sorts of devices going last night.
00:04:22Guardians trying to go back-to-back in the Yankees' house, and Robert's fave started the party in the second.
00:04:27Kyle Manzardo the Guardo.
00:04:28Manzardo the Guardo.
00:04:29Off Garrett Cole, a solo shot to right field, and this was Cole's first run allowed.
00:04:34He's giving a flex coming around third.
00:04:36He is.
00:04:37The Yankees responded right away.
00:04:39Bottom half.
00:04:40Jazz Chisholm Jr.
00:04:41Watch this.
00:04:42Slingshot.
00:04:43In the 18.
00:04:44Every stitch.
00:04:46And he knew it right away.
00:04:48Everything he saw from Gavin Williams in that at-bat was up and away.
00:04:51And with a full count, he got a hold of that one, and he knew it in a hurry.
00:04:55Top of the fourth.
00:04:56Still tied, but not anymore.
00:04:59Enter Reese Hoskins.
00:05:01This is a big series for Cleveland, by the way.
00:05:03They came into New York reeling from a 2-4 homestand, where they were outscored 39-17.
00:05:10And they want to score and produce in a hurry.
00:05:13What are you looking at me like that for?
00:05:14You're killing this.
00:05:15I like it.
00:05:16Thanks, Jose Ramirez leading off, going off, as Robert would say.
00:05:19My gosh, he has six hits in his first two games of this series.
00:05:22His average at Yankee Stadium.
00:05:24Are you ready?
00:05:253-80.
00:05:26Second most all-time.
00:05:28Guardians win games one and two, Steven Vogt, postgame.
00:05:33Obviously, we're facing some really good pitching here.
00:05:35We knew we were going to, but I was just really proud of our guys at-bats.
00:05:38I thought, you know, we had a game plan, and we stuck to it for the most part.
00:05:42I mean, Garrett Cole's one of the best pitchers in our league, and we got some mistakes, and
00:05:46we didn't miss him.
00:05:47We were ready for him.
00:05:47I mean, he's been swinging the bat really well for about a month now, and to see him
00:05:51getting some extra base hits, driving the ball out of the yard, that's the man's all
00:05:56we know, and it's just really fun to see him kind of starting to hit his stride a little
00:05:59bit.
00:05:59It doesn't matter who you're playing.
00:06:01You want to take the first two games.
00:06:03You want to give yourself an opportunity to sweep.
00:06:05Our goal is to win series, and we've accomplished that.
00:06:08But we're not done yet.
00:06:11They're not done yet.
00:06:12And the narrative surrounding the Guardians was, look at them go.
00:06:14They're at the top of the American League Central, and Jose Ramirez hasn't even gotten
00:06:17going yet.
00:06:18Last two games?
00:06:19Gordon Gekko knew he was about to get going.
00:06:21That was one of your stock picks for June.
00:06:23Eric Ney's researcher to the stars, who just told me his legs are his best feature, by the
00:06:28way.
00:06:28That was shocking.
00:06:30Ney said that he has shapely calves.
00:06:33I've never seen calves.
00:06:34That's what his wife said.
00:06:35Now, I cannot confirm nor deny that.
00:06:38You sly guy, you.
00:06:40Hey, listen.
00:06:41We all knew as a matter of time with the expected numbers that Jose Ramirez was going to get
00:06:45going, right?
00:06:46We talked about that.
00:06:47There was a couple things I just wanted to pick apart during the Guardians-Yankees game.
00:06:51Number one, if you didn't know, you should know.
00:06:55Jose Ramirez not only is obviously the linchpin that stirs everything for the Guardians, but
00:07:01he's one of the top five players in the entire sport when you look at his numbers.
00:07:05Like Lauren said, he has crippled Yankee Stadium.
00:07:08380 with 11 bombs and 24 RBIs in 43 games.
00:07:12You look at his ranks across MLB since 2020.
00:07:17I mean, top four player in the entire sport.
00:07:20And just hot change me real quick, Broyd.
00:07:23I know we got another board right there.
00:07:26Here he is, war leader since the start of 2020.
00:07:29Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, Jose Ramirez.
00:07:33I know he can hide in Cleveland at times.
00:07:35He doesn't hide amongst his peers.
00:07:37They all know he's one of the best in the business.
00:07:39And then I'd also like to give a little bit of love to the Guardians bullpen.
00:07:45Nails.
00:07:45We're going to have Cade Smith come on the show a little bit later.
00:07:48He has been phenomenal.
00:07:49I mean, up and down the line.
00:07:51Last night, Colin Holderman comes into the game.
00:07:53He's got a 196.
00:07:5610.6 Ks per nine in 23 innings pitched.
00:07:59They can throw some lefties at you.
00:08:00Eric Sobrowski's on the IL right now.
00:08:02We got Sean Armstrong pitching to a 3.38 ERA.
00:08:06Hunter Gattis is down in that bullpen figuring it out.
00:08:103.86 ERA and 16 in the third innings pitched.
00:08:14Steven Vogt's got weapons.
00:08:15But at the end of the day, didn't they have one of the best closers in the sport?
00:08:20In a manual class A?
00:08:22And we don't even talk about him for a bunch of reasons.
00:08:26But Cade Smith stepped right in.
00:08:27You don't even.
00:08:29We're not missing a beat.
00:08:30Seamless transition.
00:08:31Right?
00:08:32A seamless transition.
00:08:33So that's been nice.
00:08:34Meantime, Aaron Judge misses another game with the rib injury that has affected his shoulder as well.
00:08:41The lineups for this afternoon's game are not out.
00:08:44But we expect that he will not be in that starting lineup.
00:08:47I'm interested to hear Booney when he comes out.
00:08:50I would think it's probably an IL stint.
00:08:52Yeah.
00:08:52I don't know that for certain.
00:08:53He did visit with a specialist.
00:08:56They have not made a decision on an injured list.
00:08:58But, I mean, look, it goes without saying.
00:09:00They are a completely different team when he's not in there.
00:09:03Listen, if we're in the trust tree, it's starting rotation, Aaron Judge, and then the supporting cast around him.
00:09:11Yeah.
00:09:11This lineup without Aaron Judge suffers mightily.
00:09:14Any lineup would.
00:09:15But this is interesting for me because in 2019, he dove for a ball.
00:09:20He did have a stress fracture and a partially collapsed lung.
00:09:23He ended up spending some time on the IL in 2020.
00:09:28I don't know if it has any effects, if it's the same injury, if it's not, it's eerily similar.
00:09:35I think they, you know, kid gloves here.
00:09:37Got to have him firing.
00:09:39And he doesn't get enough love for playing battle-tested and wounded his entire career.
00:09:44He's always going to the post.
00:09:46And that's why when you see him sitting out these last two games, you think there must be something that
00:09:51he just wants to get right.
00:09:52He wants to get 100% before he comes back in.
00:09:55If you can get it right in 15 days and you don't have to deal with it the rest of
00:09:59the year, you'd do it.
00:10:01Meantime, while you talk about obviously this lineup is different when he's not out there, the fact that Ben Rice
00:10:08is doing what he's doing, it's remarkable.
00:10:12I was looking at the all-star ballots.
00:10:14They're starting to come out.
00:10:15He's your starter at first base right now as currently constructed.
00:10:20Kid from Dartmouth.
00:10:21Yeah, you got obviously the Nick Kurtzes of the world and the Murakamis that are going to put up a
00:10:26fight.
00:10:26But it's Ben Rice right now up and down the line.
00:10:293-0-4 with 17 homers, 44 RBIs, and a 3-95 on base.
00:10:34Pulled his hands in and shot an absolute bullet off Gavin Williams last night for a double.
00:10:39You see weighted runs created plus leaders.
00:10:42It's Jordan and Ben Rice.
00:10:44Yeah, and there is a sizable gap between Rice and Kurtz on this list here.
00:10:48Yes, there is.
00:10:49And I'd like to give Jazz a little love, too.
00:10:51That was a big moment for him last night.
00:10:54Gavin Williams has got an absolute bully fastball.
00:10:57He was throwing that two-seamer up and away.
00:11:00And Jazz caught every stitch of this thing.
00:11:03He's starting to get rolling a little bit.
00:11:05He's slashing .280, .342 on base, and a .492 slug over his last 35 games with seven homers and 18
00:11:12RBIs.
00:11:13They need him.
00:11:15Well, they need that three-run bomb from somebody if Judge is going to be there.
00:11:20There may be a week or two away from getting some reinforcements.
00:11:24Giancarlo Stanton took live BP here yesterday.
00:11:27Supposed to do that again later in the week.
00:11:29And then Jason Dominguez is due for a rehab assignment sometime soon.
00:11:33So, if Aaron Judge is going to have to miss some time, getting players like that back could certainly help.
00:11:39Is Jazz still wearing Stanton's pants?
00:11:41Or did that stop?
00:11:42I believe that still.
00:11:43Because what happens when Stanton comes back?
00:11:44He's like, I need.
00:11:45Yeah.
00:11:46Well, I think that they can afford more than one pair of pants.
00:11:49Stanton gets new pants.
00:11:50That's right.
00:11:50Every time.
00:11:51It's a tape.
00:11:51Every time.
00:11:53By the way, I should have worn shorts out here.
00:11:56Jorts?
00:11:57No, not George.
00:11:58How do you feel about jorts?
00:11:58I don't know if I feel good about it.
00:11:59I'm with you.
00:12:00I went to Florida.
00:12:01Gators wear jean shorts.
00:12:02Once men reach a certain age in a non-swimming, workout, yard work environment, wearing shorts
00:12:09is a difficult look.
00:12:10Unless you have nays caps.
00:12:11It's tricky.
00:12:12It's tricky.
00:12:12I don't know.
00:12:13Let's go to our top story.
00:12:15Last night in Houston, Astros and Pirates.
00:12:18That's the top story.
00:12:18For the first time all year, Robert, you could actually say this.
00:12:22Hey, what a crazy game.
00:12:24Fourth inning, the Astros have a 2-0 lead.
00:12:26Big Spencer Arrighetti's in there.
00:12:29Paul Skeens got to start at the park.
00:12:30I mean, good God, Henry Davis.
00:12:32Yeah, Henry Davis, first career grand slam.
00:12:35And he led everybody in the park now.
00:12:37And just like that, the Pirates have the lead.
00:12:40But, Skeens is long gone.
00:12:43Arrighetti's long gone.
00:12:45The Pirates had a 5-run lead at one point.
00:12:49Then they had a 4-run lead.
00:12:51It's 9-6 in the bottom of the 8th.
00:12:54Jordan Alvarez.
00:12:56That's a base knock.
00:12:57You knew he was getting it right there.
00:12:59Part of a 6-run inning.
00:13:01The Astros were 0-32 when trailing after 7.
00:13:06Next batter, Christian Walker.
00:13:08Get there!
00:13:09Can't make the play.
00:13:12Jeremy Pena scores.
00:13:13Astros within one.
00:13:15Next batter, Isak.
00:13:18Isak Paredes.
00:13:21That is a wild pitch from Gregory Soto.
00:13:25Zach Cole scores.
00:13:26And we're tied at 9.
00:13:28Next batter, Cam Smith.
00:13:32Gecko approved.
00:13:33That's right.
00:13:34Dero said, watch out for Cam Smith this month.
00:13:36He's about to get hot.
00:13:38He triples to right.
00:13:402-run score.
00:13:41Astros lead 11-9.
00:13:45By the way, this is the first time since 1928 that the Pirates have scored at least 9-plus runs
00:13:50in 4 straight games.
00:13:52As for the bottom of the 9th, season debut for Josh Hader.
00:13:56How'd he look?
00:13:57He looked like he looked last year.
00:13:59Consistent.
00:14:00And he got the job done.
00:14:01And Astros go on to win 11-9.
00:14:04Hader gets his first save of the season.
00:14:06Rubber match of this series a little bit later today.
00:14:09If you want to watch greatness, let's go to the bank.
00:14:11Because attention must be paid to this man.
00:14:16Christopher Sanchez on an historic run on the mound.
00:14:18Top of the first for the Phillies facing Manny Machado.
00:14:21Grounds out to short.
00:14:22So Sanchez extends his scoreless streak to 45 and two-thirds innings.
00:14:26The most by a left-handed pitcher since 1893.
00:14:30He just saunters casually off the mound.
00:14:32Top of the third, Fernando Tatis.
00:14:35And Sanchez spoke about the streak, said it's something I never imagined in my whole life.
00:14:39Extends his streak to 47 and two-thirds.
00:14:42Passing Bob Gibson for fifth all-time.
00:14:45Untouchable through six was Sanchez.
00:14:47The changeup, nasty yet again.
00:14:50Responsible for seven of his eight strikeouts of the day through six innings.
00:14:55Sanchez extends his streak to 50 and two-thirds.
00:14:58You heard me.
00:14:59Now Jackson Merrill top of the seventh.
00:15:01And he said, I've never felt so bad getting an RBI in my life.
00:15:06Runner on second.
00:15:07Two outs.
00:15:08Single.
00:15:08Passed Trey Turner at short.
00:15:10Tie France.
00:15:11Scores.
00:15:11Padres tie it up.
00:15:13And that's it.
00:15:14Sanchez scoreless streak snapped at 50 and two-thirds.
00:15:17A little smile from Sanchez.
00:15:19JT is the best.
00:15:20He was not forgiving himself.
00:15:22But Sanchez taking in the moment.
00:15:25What happens?
00:15:25JT delivers.
00:15:27Bottom of the seventh.
00:15:29Real Muto up and out.
00:15:31A solo shot.
00:15:32Third of the season.
00:15:33And that was a big spot.
00:15:34As for the lead.
00:15:35Phillies take a two-to-one lead.
00:15:37And then you know this dude was just going to get in on the action.
00:15:41Always.
00:15:43Kyle Schwarber.
00:15:44MLB leading 23rd of the season.
00:15:47And the Phillies win it 3-2.
00:15:49So Christopher Sanchez takes his place in history.
00:15:53And we were talking on the way over here about JT Real Muto.
00:15:56And how his interview post-game.
00:15:58He was talking about how whatever he called.
00:16:01Sanchez would pitch.
00:16:03And you know what?
00:16:03Ever since you did the Skybox the other day on Christopher Sanchez.
00:16:07And how he hides the ball so well.
00:16:08That's all I can see when he's on the mound.
00:16:10He's got everything.
00:16:11He's the best pitcher in the game right now.
00:16:13Right now?
00:16:13Yeah.
00:16:14I would say so right now.
00:16:15I mean Skeens has an argument.
00:16:17The Miz has an argument.
00:16:18Schlittler has an argument.
00:16:20But just the consistency.
00:16:22Ruben Amaro Jr.
00:16:23I watched this game front to back.
00:16:25Watched the post-game.
00:16:26Ruben Amaro Jr.
00:16:27Had a great comparison.
00:16:28He said he's pitching with Randy Johnson's stuff.
00:16:31But he's walking around the mound like Ranger Suarez.
00:16:35Casual calm.
00:16:35Just totally in full control.
00:16:39And some homers hit different.
00:16:41For JT to hit that homer in a 1-1 game.
00:16:43Make it 2-1.
00:16:44Give his boy the lead.
00:16:45That had to feel good.
00:16:46So I just want.
00:16:47There was a lot of great pitching performances last night.
00:16:50Logan Webb.
00:16:51Up and down the line.
00:16:52But Christopher Sanchez deserves a little treatment right here.
00:16:55So I want to dive in on and give him his love.
00:16:58Because he has been just heroic through 50 and two-thirds innings of scoreless baseball.
00:17:04And literally last night I know he has three wipeout pitches.
00:17:07He did it with two.
00:17:08He did it with a heater and a changeup.
00:17:10And the changeup is so ridiculously devastating.
00:17:15Watch this thing just fall out of his hand.
00:17:18And he can put it wherever he wants.
00:17:20He can throw it down the way to the righties.
00:17:22Down and into the lefties.
00:17:24We got a full screen right here on the value.
00:17:26StatCast powered by Google Cloud.
00:17:28Highest run value on a pitch since the start of 2025.
00:17:31Stay with me, Lauren and Robert.
00:17:34I see you.
00:17:34Christopher Sanchez's changeup right there.
00:17:37Leads the pack.
00:17:39I want to throw to post-game sound from one of the best to do it.
00:17:44JT Real Muto talking about the changeup.
00:17:47Yeah, it's just such a good pitch.
00:17:49I mean, it's nice as a catcher to always have that feel safe.
00:17:53You can always feel confident when you call it.
00:17:55Even if you feel like the hitter's probably got it in the back of their mind or even looking for
00:17:59it.
00:18:00He does a good job of throwing it in the right locations.
00:18:02And he knows which guys to throw it in the zone and which guys to throw it for chase.
00:18:06And he does a really good job of executing that.
00:18:08So, it's definitely, it feels like a cheat code when you're catching it.
00:18:11You can always go back to that pitch.
00:18:14So, he's got a cheat code pitch.
00:18:17But the problem is, is he's also got 97 miles an hour in the tank.
00:18:21That's why you just can't sit changeup.
00:18:22And the arm speed is so good, he starts to take apart these righties.
00:18:26You can't come off 97, two-seamer.
00:18:29And what happens is, is that you're on go mode for the heater.
00:18:33And he's got such unbelievable arm action and deception.
00:18:37You watch it right here.
00:18:38Heater away to Zander.
00:18:40Changeup.
00:18:41Zander's one of the best in the business at being able to shoot the ball the other way.
00:18:44You think he would have the best at bats in the Padres lineup against Sanchez.
00:18:49But this thing, like JT's talking about, he could almost turn to Zander and say,
00:18:54hey, changeup's coming right here.
00:18:55I don't know if you're capable of staying back.
00:18:58There are moments throughout seasons where guys get on a run.
00:19:01Lefties shouldn't even get in a box against them.
00:19:05I mean, Jackson Merrill stayed inside that sinker and shot it the other way.
00:19:09Like he said, he felt bad.
00:19:10But any lefty, it's two-seamers, 97 down and in.
00:19:14And then changeup off of it.
00:19:16And against Fernando Tatis, he just took him for a ride.
00:19:19Changeup down the way.
00:19:20I'll see if you fish a little further out.
00:19:22Yup, you're coming with me.
00:19:23All right.
00:19:24So he was phenomenal and has been phenomenal from start to finish.
00:19:29And I just want to bring up some boards real quick on Stuff Plus,
00:19:33kind of what his ball is doing.
00:19:35Stuff Plus leaders this season,
00:19:37obviously the Miz is at the top with the bucko four heater.
00:19:41Yuri Perez, nasty stuff.
00:19:43But there's Sanchez in third place at 117.
00:19:47Just crazy, crazy good.
00:19:49I love when superstars talk superstars.
00:19:52And Bryce Harper, after the game, just shaking his head.
00:19:54The reason I say this, if a guy's throwing like 93, 94,
00:19:58you could almost sit in between and be like,
00:20:01I know I'm going to get to changeup,
00:20:03but I still have a shot at the heater.
00:20:05When it's north of 96, you can't come off the fastball.
00:20:09And if you're the San Diego Padres,
00:20:11you had to deal with Christopher Sanchez a little bit later today.
00:20:14You got to deal with Zach Wheeler.
00:20:15Oh my God.
00:20:16I know.
00:20:16So that is definitely a rough two game stretch for the San Diego Padres.
00:20:21In fact,
00:20:21let's go to Philadelphia where the Padres and the Phillies will do battle a
00:20:27little bit later today.
00:20:28As I mentioned,
00:20:29it's Zach Wheeler getting the start for the Philadelphia Phillies.
00:20:32Lucas Giolito will get the start for the Padres.
00:20:35Meantime,
00:20:35yesterday afternoon,
00:20:37Commissioner Rob Manfred speaking after the owners meetings in New York
00:20:41City,
00:20:42where he addressed the latest on the CBA negotiations.
00:20:46I think that the proposal we've made is grounds for constructive dialogue
00:20:56about back and forth with the MLBPA about how we can address the number one
00:21:03concern of our fans.
00:21:04And that is a lack of competitive balance in the game.
00:21:07The players are smart people.
00:21:08I think they understand that payroll is a significant advantage for certain clubs
00:21:17and that high payroll clubs win more than low payroll clubs.
00:21:21Every deal that gets made has to achieve some of the things that we're looking to
00:21:31achieve and some of the things that the union's looking to achieve.
00:21:35I mean,
00:21:35one of the things that we're doing right now is looking at their proposals and
00:21:39figuring out how do we achieve,
00:21:40you know,
00:21:41there's proposals and there's goals behind proposals,
00:21:44right?
00:21:44We're looking at their proposals,
00:21:46trying to figure out what they're trying to achieve and whether we can meet some
00:21:49of those goals and still achieve the things that we're looking to achieve.
00:21:57And obviously we'll continue to follow out in the weeks and months ahead.
00:22:01Still ahead here from Yankee Stadium,
00:22:03what are the chances that Byron Buxton and Mike Trout would be willing to waive their no-trade clauses?
00:22:08Well,
00:22:09there's some contending teams that would love for that to be the case.
00:22:12Joel Sherman has the news you need to know next.
00:22:15And a little bit later,
00:22:18showtime in the desert.
00:22:20Shohei Ohtani was on base four times,
00:22:23five times,
00:22:24excuse me,
00:22:24and he was also the starting pitcher.
00:22:26He threw a shot out.
00:22:28Leading the Dodgers.
00:22:28Zero says he's back in.
00:22:30Yeah.
00:22:30Leading the Dodgers to another win in the desert.
00:22:33We've got highlights.
00:22:34And again,
00:22:34on this special on-the-road edition of MLB Central,
00:22:37we've got guests set to join us here.
00:22:41Along the first baseline,
00:22:43Aaron Boone,
00:22:44Cam Schlittler from the New York Yankees,
00:22:46and the closer for the Cleveland Guardians,
00:22:49Cade Smith.
00:22:53We've got a little bit of feedback.
00:22:55This one here from Big Steve.
00:22:56If the MLB Central crew goes on a road trip,
00:22:59who gets control of the aux,
00:23:01and what's the first song you guys are playing to set the tone?
00:23:05Good question,
00:23:06Steve.
00:23:07Lauren,
00:23:08definitely not getting the aux,
00:23:09because respectfully,
00:23:10your music taste is awful.
00:23:12Respectfully.
00:23:13Respectfully.
00:23:14No offense,
00:23:15but.
00:23:15You had the front seat today.
00:23:17I had the front seat.
00:23:17You were in control.
00:23:18I was in control.
00:23:19didn't use the aux,
00:23:20because I was holding on for dear life.
00:23:24Our driver was taking chances.
00:23:26In a big,
00:23:27big way.
00:23:36MLB Central.
00:23:40Happy Thursday to you.
00:23:42MLB Central is presented by Home Depot,
00:23:44and we are on the road at Yankee Stadium,
00:23:46and Joel Sherman is manning the inside corner.
00:23:49I was walking in today,
00:23:50and I was thinking,
00:23:51Joel Sherman,
00:23:52this never gets old.
00:23:53You've worked in the Bronx.
00:23:54How many years?
00:23:55You know,
00:23:56you never ask a boy to say.
00:23:5730.
00:23:5830.
00:23:59So I covered the Yankees as a beat from 89 to 95.
00:24:02So this would be season 38 in some way around the team.
00:24:05What do you love about this?
00:24:07By the way,
00:24:08most of that was in a stadium over there someplace.
00:24:10That's okay.
00:24:11I just like still coming to the stadium and talking to people and trying,
00:24:15you know,
00:24:16if you're a reporter,
00:24:16you should be curious,
00:24:17trying to learn a little bit every day,
00:24:19and hopefully then convey it to fans.
00:24:21And you do it very,
00:24:22very well.
00:24:23You've noticed trends right over there,
00:24:24short porch,
00:24:25that so many batters call heaven.
00:24:28In terms of right-handed bats,
00:24:30there's trends.
00:24:31You always look at trends a couple of months in.
00:24:33What have you noticed with right-handers?
00:24:35Yeah,
00:24:35look,
00:24:37the other day,
00:24:38Aaron Boone came up to me and said he had some nerd stuff for me.
00:24:41Okay.
00:24:42I don't think he used the word stuff.
00:24:43And it's kind of stuff I love digging down and finding things.
00:24:48And if you're looking right now,
00:24:51right-hand hitting isn't good in the sport.
00:24:54Outfield right-hand hitting is deathly.
00:24:56And right-hand hitting against lefty pitching.
00:24:58Now,
00:24:59let's say something about the game today.
00:25:01The Yankees are number one in the major leagues in RC plus.
00:25:04Right-hand batters.
00:25:06Okay.
00:25:06And right-hand batters versus lefty pitching.
00:25:08And the Guardians are top seven in both of those things.
00:25:11The Guardians mainly do it.
00:25:13I noticed this the other day,
00:25:14Lauren.
00:25:14They were able to start lefty,
00:25:17nine lefty hitters against Cam Schittler,
00:25:19because they use four switch hitters.
00:25:21Two of them,
00:25:22Rocchio and Ramirez,
00:25:23can really hit from the right side.
00:25:24It's helped them.
00:25:25The Yankees have a little issue right now,
00:25:27especially if Aaron Judge is out,
00:25:29because Judge,
00:25:30over the last six,
00:25:31seven years,
00:25:32has just been the best at hitting lefty pitching.
00:25:35Giancarlo Stanton's also out.
00:25:37They were smart in the offseason.
00:25:38They were a very left-hand hitting lineup.
00:25:40For six and a half million dollars,
00:25:42they re-signed Paul Goldschmidt and Ahmad Rosario.
00:25:45They're both good.
00:25:47Goldschmidt is exceptional in his career
00:25:48and remains into his late 30s,
00:25:51exceptional against lefty pitching.
00:25:52I was listening to you thinking the Guardians are a specific case
00:25:55just because of the switch hitters.
00:25:56Is this a sudden trend,
00:25:57or are we seeing right-handed bats versus lefties?
00:26:01Has that been going on for some time now?
00:26:03We are in a period right now, Lauren.
00:26:05The last three seasons,
00:26:07the last three seasons since 1990,
00:26:10worst OPS right-hand hitting versus lefty pitching
00:26:13is these last three seasons.
00:26:15This is the worst one.
00:26:16It's about 7-18 or so this year.
00:26:19It's not good.
00:26:20All the trend lines are not good in all of these areas.
00:26:25Outfield, righty versus lefty, righty in general.
00:26:28And so it leads to the questions why.
00:26:31I reached out to like 20 people to ask that question
00:26:33because I can't help myself.
00:26:35And nobody has a pure answer.
00:26:37But two things came up a lot.
00:26:39Number one, in 2020, the three batter minimum went in.
00:26:44So the left-on-left pure reliever went away.
00:26:46So there's kind of an evolutionary Darwinian thing
00:26:49is the lefty pitching that has survived,
00:26:50relief pitching.
00:26:51You have to be good at both.
00:26:52Got to be good at both things.
00:26:54Like the lefty specialist is gone.
00:26:55So I think that's evolved over the last few years.
00:26:57The other thing that comes up is you hardly,
00:27:00you know, like fastballs go down every year.
00:27:03More and more breaking balls.
00:27:05And now you're seeing, you know,
00:27:07the righty hitters are facing a better version
00:27:10of a lefty pitcher who's not really challenging them
00:27:12with fastballs quite as much as they used to in the past.
00:27:15And a lot of, look, is this a get-off-the-lawn thing?
00:27:18Because a lot of the older scouts will tell you
00:27:20too many of the hitters have one style fits all swings,
00:27:24whether it's lefty, righty, game situation or not.
00:27:27And that makes them even more susceptible
00:27:28to those lefty breaking balls.
00:27:30Joel, you said your question is why.
00:27:32My question is, if there's a lack of right-handed outfield bats,
00:27:35are the teams with those guys ready to shop?
00:27:40Well, I think everyone's going to be looking for this,
00:27:43Lauren.
00:27:43And to me, the big question is going to be,
00:27:45are two guys who have invoked their no-trade clause before,
00:27:49where they said they don't want to be traded,
00:27:51do they still feel that way?
00:27:53Because I think at this point we could say,
00:27:55you hate to say it just after Memorial Day,
00:27:57it doesn't look like the Angels, Mike Trout,
00:27:59or the Twins, Byron Buxton,
00:28:00are going to be big contenders this year.
00:28:03Now, there's issues with both of those guys.
00:28:06There's lots of injury history for both of them.
00:28:08Buxton was just limited recently to DH only.
00:28:11He's back in center field.
00:28:13There's money, significant money,
00:28:1535.45 for Trout this year,
00:28:18and then four at 141.8 moving forward.
00:28:21Buxton, 15 this year,
00:28:24two at 30 after this year.
00:28:28But man, these are great hitters.
00:28:31Buxton's got 18 homers and 853 OPS.
00:28:33Strangely, he hasn't hit lefties this year.
00:28:35Just one homer off of lefties,
00:28:36mid-600 OPS.
00:28:38But Trout, he's got a 900 OPS.
00:28:40It's 863 versus lefties.
00:28:42He's had a renaissance season
00:28:44as far as his performance and his health.
00:28:46He leads the major leagues in walks.
00:28:49And let's not forget,
00:28:50the two teams these guys have been associated with,
00:28:52most of the teams they grew up rooting for.
00:28:55Buxton is from Georgia and grew up a Braves fan.
00:28:58Braves outfield seems to be in good shape.
00:29:00I think they'll go after starting pitching.
00:29:02The more interesting one is Trout grew up a Phillies fan.
00:29:05He said that for years, though.
00:29:05And he's never one.
00:29:07Look, I talked to him at spring training,
00:29:09and he said to me the broken record thing.
00:29:12He wants to win here because when it wins,
00:29:14it will feel better with the Angels.
00:29:16But, man, it feels far away for a guy
00:29:19who is in his mid-30s now.
00:29:21Like, combined, do you know these guys
00:29:22have never won a playoff series?
00:29:24They're 1-9 combined in playoff games.
00:29:27Trout has never won a playoff game.
00:29:29The Phillies' right-hand hitting,
00:29:31and their right-hand hitting against lefty pitching,
00:29:34is both 30th in the major leagues.
00:29:36They have a clear need.
00:29:38If it isn't Buxton, if it isn't Trout,
00:29:40Dave Dombrowski, I suspect, and Preston Mattingly
00:29:43will go and try to find someone.
00:29:45But, man, Harper and Trout?
00:29:48Wouldn't that be interesting?
00:29:49Where do I sign?
00:29:51Yes, please.
00:29:51Trade deadline will be fascinating.
00:29:53Maybe they'll listen to you.
00:29:54No one does.
00:29:56I have children that don't even listen to me.
00:29:58Your two sons don't listen to you.
00:29:59The children who run baseball teams
00:30:01are suddenly going to listen to me.
00:30:02I listen to you, Joel Sherman,
00:30:03Manning the Inside Corner.
00:30:04Good stuff.
00:30:05Live from Yankee Stadium.
00:30:07Time for us to step aside on MLB Central.
00:30:10When we come back,
00:30:11you heard Dero say earlier that he's back.
00:30:13He's back in love with Shohei Ohtani.
00:30:15They had a falling out,
00:30:16but they're so back.
00:30:17We'll explain why after a quick timeout.
00:30:19Stay with us.
00:30:34Welcome back to Yankee Stadium.
00:30:35Dero, Lauren, I'm Robert.
00:30:37This is the Express Train.
00:30:39White Sox, twins from Minnesota.
00:30:41Sixth inning.
00:30:42How about the day Sam Antonacci had?
00:30:45He had four hits.
00:30:47First career four-hit game for Sam Antonacci.
00:30:51I'll never forget his name.
00:30:52It was 1-0 against Italy.
00:30:54Nolan McClain tries to go heat her in.
00:30:55He shoots it in the bullpen at Dykin Park.
00:30:57I'm like watching him run around the bases.
00:30:59I go, who's Antonacci?
00:31:01Now you know.
00:31:02Miguel Vargas, seventh RBI of the series.
00:31:05Gives the White Sox a 6-0 lead.
00:31:07And then Andrew Benatendi.
00:31:09White Sox are a postseason team.
00:31:11White Sox are a problem.
00:31:12They have a second wild card.
00:31:14First time the twins were shut out all season.
00:31:17The Orioles are now the only team that is yet to be shut out.
00:31:20Mets, Mariners.
00:31:21Mariners had won eight in a row coming in.
00:31:24J.P. Crawford, he's found the power cord this year.
00:31:28Off Freddy Peralta.
00:31:30And that ties the game at one.
00:31:33First three-hit game for J.P. Crawford that included a homer in over a year.
00:31:38But Bo Bichette.
00:31:40Four hits, Robert.
00:31:41Four hits for Bo Bichette.
00:31:43Gives the Mets a 3-1 lead.
00:31:47And then Jared Young.
00:31:49That goes off the bag at first.
00:31:52Mets go on to win 7-1.
00:31:55Bo Bichette's 19th career four-hit game.
00:31:58A's, Cubs.
00:31:59This game got tight.
00:32:01PCA.
00:32:03That ball was hammered.
00:32:05Eighth home run of the season.
00:32:07He's reached base safely at 11 of his last 12.
00:32:10And has three of his eight home runs in that span.
00:32:13Cubs take a 3-2 lead.
00:32:14Tyler Soderstrom.
00:32:16That's down the line.
00:32:17Shaylang Allier scores.
00:32:19Kea Suzuki throws to second.
00:32:21And Soderstrom is out.
00:32:23But the game is tied at four.
00:32:25In the 10.
00:32:26Nick Kurtz.
00:32:28Katsai said he's so good.
00:32:29It's like we all expect it.
00:32:30Well, yeah.
00:32:31He's hitting 487.
00:32:32He's hitting 487 with runners in scoring position.
00:32:35A's win 5-4.
00:32:37Rangers, Cardinals from St. Louis.
00:32:39Alec Burleson brings in Jordan Walker.
00:32:421-0 St. Louis.
00:32:44Burleson and Jordan Walker are one of five pairs of teammates with at least 40 RBIs this season.
00:32:51Burleson again makes it 3-1.
00:32:56Thomas Sejaci in the fifth.
00:32:59This is going to be extra bases.
00:33:02It's a triple.
00:33:03Jose Fermin scores.
00:33:05Cardinals go on to beat the Rangers 5-3 as their winning streak is snapped.
00:33:10Josh Young, by the way, started the season 0-17 since then.
00:33:13He's hitting 3-33.
00:33:15Blue Jays, Braves, Nathan Lucas.
00:33:18First homerun of the season.
00:33:21Been nicked up early part of the year.
00:33:23A lot of Blue Jays.
00:33:24Starting to get his swing.
00:33:25But maybe the most under-the-radar, valuable acquisition in the offseason.
00:33:32Mauricio Dubon.
00:33:34A three-run homer.
00:33:36His fourth.
00:33:37He said his muse was sitting in the stands.
00:33:39Chipper Jones.
00:33:40Every time he's there, he goes off.
00:33:42Oh, nice.
00:33:43Ozzie Albies goes off here.
00:33:45Tenth homerun of the season.
00:33:47A three-run homer.
00:33:48Braves go on to win 7-3.
00:33:51Ozzie Albies, after hitting 16 homers last year, he's got 10 through 62 games this year.
00:33:56Dodgers are 42-20.
00:33:58They're off to a great start.
00:34:00Needless to say, Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Kyle Tucker.
00:34:02He's starting to find it.
00:34:04Oh, boy.
00:34:05Just what they need.
00:34:07Just lay in the weeds.
00:34:09Look up.
00:34:10282-32.
00:34:11It's so good to see something work out for the Dodgers.
00:34:13I'm glad that that's happening.
00:34:15Two-run homer for Kyle Tucker, his fifth.
00:34:17Freddie Freeman.
00:34:18All he does is rake.
00:34:19Specifically at this yard.
00:34:21Makes it 4-0.
00:34:23Gabriel Moreno in the fourth.
00:34:25Shohei Ohtani's got a perfect game going until Moreno.
00:34:29No, I'm serious.
00:34:31He did.
00:34:31That's so stupid.
00:34:33That's a double.
00:34:34But can I tell you that Shohei Ohtani, six innings, two hits, six strikeouts.
00:34:42He's got a .74 ERA, third lowest ERA through 10 starts all time since ERA became an official stat.
00:34:51And one more note, he leads the National League in on-base percentage.
00:34:55Look at this.
00:34:55I went to MLB.com and the headline is, Ohtani has the best of both worlds working in the desert.
00:35:00You walked in and you said, because for the past, what, month, Robert?
00:35:05Dira says, I'm done.
00:35:06I like my Shohei Ohtani hitting.
00:35:08To concentrate on hitting.
00:35:10And now you're back in love.
00:35:11I got used to him that way.
00:35:13He was hitting 50 bombs.
00:35:15And then the ability and singular focus to basically say, this year, I'm going to win the Cy Young.
00:35:21He did it two years ago when he said, I want to steal bags.
00:35:24Yes.
00:35:25What are you going to work on this year?
00:35:26Well, that's like me saying, I would like a six pack.
00:35:28It's not happening.
00:35:29If you put your time and energy into it.
00:35:31Wanting a six pack is the same as Shohei Ohtani wanting the Cy Young?
00:35:35Pretty much.
00:35:36Pretty much.
00:35:37The difference is he's capable of doing it.
00:35:40The early part of the year, his offense was scuffling a little bit.
00:35:44So every time I would check his numbers, he'd be hitting like 245 with five.
00:35:48You weren't happy.
00:35:48But he had a .7.
00:35:50And I'm like, yeah, but I like my Shohei to hit.
00:35:53He chose violence.
00:35:55He went the other way.
00:35:56And pitching.
00:35:57But now I blink.
00:35:59I look down.
00:35:59He's hitting .301 with 10 and 33 and a .420 on base percentage.
00:36:03So let's give in and give him some love right here.
00:36:06Because he has been unbelievable for the Dodgers.
00:36:10Not only on the mound, but you knew it was a matter of time.
00:36:13And he made a little subtle adjustment.
00:36:15I don't even know if he's aware of it.
00:36:17We'll get into a little side-by-side.
00:36:19He's opened up his front hip just a smidge.
00:36:23Maybe to clear himself.
00:36:25Maybe he felt like he was being locked in.
00:36:26Maybe he felt like his tush wasn't up under him at the point of contact.
00:36:30Whatever he has done, it has worked.
00:36:33You see on May 29th compared to March 28th, just a little bit more open on his front side.
00:36:40That front hip clears a little bit easier.
00:36:43And he's able to drive the ball all over the lot.
00:36:45Bring up his numbers, the offensive splits, through May 10th and then since May 11th.
00:36:53Take a look at this.
00:36:55Through May 11th, he was hitting .233 with six.
00:36:58And that's when I was sitting there going, I get it.
00:37:00You're an unbelievable pitcher.
00:37:02But I need to see 500-foot homers to make me happy.
00:37:05Well, since May 11th, .438, four bombs, a .533 on base, and a .753 slug.
00:37:13He was on base five times last night.
00:37:16Oh, and by the way, he was dominant again on the mound.
00:37:21But it was interesting.
00:37:22You can tell he's a little frustrated with his performance on the mound.
00:37:26He was, dare I say, effectively wild last night.
00:37:29All right, I'm going to drop a rainbow curveball, then I'm going headhunting on Nolan Aracano.
00:37:35I mean, we're going dirt angels right there.
00:37:38It's 1-1.
00:37:39Now I've got to get back in the box?
00:37:41I don't want any of that.
00:37:42You don't want any part of this.
00:37:43And then he goes to work.
00:37:45Breaking ball, high heater, puts him away.
00:37:47How about my man Fernandez later on in the third inning?
00:37:51We've got the slow-mo, elevated four-seam, cheese at the top of the zone to Nolan.
00:37:56It seemed like every time, oh, we're just going to miss arm side up at his head.
00:38:01You know what you're getting the next pitch.
00:38:03You're getting the exact same pitch because he wasn't happy with the way he executed it.
00:38:08Then he goes frisbee cutter up and away, frisbee slide or sweeper, whatever you want to call it,
00:38:13because he's got 17 pitches.
00:38:16He has been unbelievable.
00:38:18His ranks, ERA, he's first.
00:38:21Fielding independent pitching, he's fifth.
00:38:23Opponent average, he's first.
00:38:24Opponent OPS, he's first.
00:38:28He's what 90% of the big leaguers did at 12 years old.
00:38:33They dominated their town, Little League, and then they threw no hitters.
00:38:36And then they had a choice to make.
00:38:38Greg Maddox always used to say that to us on the plane because we used to get annoyed
00:38:42when he was taking his golf clubs and making more money than everyone, obviously,
00:38:46and leaving.
00:38:47And we're like, where are you going?
00:38:48He's like, you had a choice in Little League.
00:38:50You chose to hit.
00:38:51You chose wrong.
00:38:52Shame on you.
00:38:52Shame on you.
00:38:53We are fortunate.
00:38:54I said this earlier.
00:38:55We're fortunate to witness two unicorns right now in our lifetime.
00:38:59Shohei Otani and Victor Wembenyame.
00:39:02Now, granted, Wembenyame wasn't enough for the Knicks last night,
00:39:06but to see these two guys that may be potentially revolutionizing their sport at the same time,
00:39:11it's pretty incredible.
00:39:13Let's take a quick timeout.
00:39:14When we come back, Paul Skeens knows a thing or two about pitching.
00:39:17But the former Cy Young Award winner is going through a bit of a rough patch.
00:39:23I say that in quotations because when we come back, we're going to tell you why,
00:39:27even though he's, quote, struggling, the numbers say he's fine.
00:39:32So everyone relax.
00:39:47MLB Central.
00:39:50And welcome back.
00:39:51So glad you're with us.
00:39:52MLB Central is live from beautiful Yankee Stadium.
00:39:55We are presented by Home Depot.
00:39:57Happy Thursday to all of you.
00:39:58Let's go round and round the bases, and we're stopping in Pittsburgh where opponents now
00:40:02over the last four starts for Paul Skeens are hitting 3-0-2 against him.
00:40:06He hasn't been his normal self.
00:40:08The defense certainly hasn't helped.
00:40:11When you're so dominant, D-Rowe, I feel like we noticed the littlest thing.
00:40:15What have you seen lately from Paul Skeens?
00:40:17You know, it's funny.
00:40:19And Robert and myself were talking about this as well.
00:40:23We talk about Cattell Martes of the world and the Jose Ramirez of the world
00:40:27with the expected numbers.
00:40:29You have to be willing to do that with the pitchers.
00:40:31And standing off to my right is the guy who makes it all happen, Eric Nays,
00:40:35and he's saying do not panic.
00:40:37Yes.
00:40:38All the expected numbers are on par with what he's done in his entire career.
00:40:43Yeah.
00:40:43I mean, you take a look at it.
00:40:46He's got the sunglasses on.
00:40:48I can't see with the glare.
00:40:49And so this is what he's done, the season comparison.
00:40:53From 2024 to 2025 and now 2026, and the ERA is lower right now.
00:40:58I'm trying to look.
00:40:59His expected ERA is a 2-3.
00:41:03Yeah.
00:41:04And I know last night was an aberration with the Houston comeback.
00:41:07They still found – I mean, Henry Davis hits the grand slam.
00:41:10The Buccos have learned there's this vibe.
00:41:13Just watching them.
00:41:14When you start to win, you start to believe, you start to think you can –
00:41:18different guys step up.
00:41:20His velocity is a little bit down, but there's conventional wisdom
00:41:23or conventional thinking that he is – that's by design.
00:41:26To maybe let him stay in the ballgame a little bit longer.
00:41:30I always feel – and I don't know anything about pitching
00:41:32except I feel like pretty decent at watching guys with body movement.
00:41:37I think the big thing for me with him is he's almost like a hybrid
00:41:42where he's not cross-firing, but there is definitely a step across
00:41:46that creates deception.
00:41:48Yeah.
00:41:49I wonder if maybe getting a little too side-swipey
00:41:52and needs to streamline his mechanics a little bit more.
00:41:55That's all I could think about to get the one mile an hour up.
00:41:58But he's a tinkerer.
00:41:59He'll figure it out.
00:42:00Yes, he will.
00:42:00Every pitcher goes through this.
00:42:02We just mentioned – I mean, D-Roy, you just said this statement.
00:42:04Christopher Sanchez right now is the best pitcher in the game.
00:42:06Remember his first couple starts.
00:42:07They weren't this.
00:42:08They weren't this.
00:42:09No.
00:42:10Yeah.
00:42:10In the beginning of the year.
00:42:11So there's –
00:42:12Ebbs and flows.
00:42:13Absolutely.
00:42:13And look, if the Pirates have to worry about Paul Skeen's –
00:42:17like, there's bigger problems, you know.
00:42:18So he's going to be fine.
00:42:20Let's talk about another pitcher, and that's Freddie Peralta of the New York Mets.
00:42:23Yeah, he's interesting.
00:42:24Mets got the win yesterday against the Mariners.
00:42:26One run, six innings.
00:42:28But here's the interesting part.
00:42:30We know where the Mets are at in the standings.
00:42:32Right now they're not in a playoff spot.
00:42:34They're 15 games back.
00:42:35That is – that's not what you want.
00:42:37We also know that Freddie Peralta is a free agent at the end of the season.
00:42:42And every team should want a Freddie Peralta.
00:42:44And we do know that there were some conversations between Peralta and the Mets about an extension.
00:42:50We don't know how far the road – how down the road it got.
00:42:54But right now it doesn't look like anything's imminent.
00:42:56So what would you do if you're the Mets and you're in this position, say, five weeks from now?
00:43:02I mean, I try and sign him.
00:43:04It's got to be within reason.
00:43:05No, I don't know what that is in terms of years.
00:43:08But Freddie Peralta – we talk about consistency.
00:43:12Why are you the best at your job?
00:43:15Because you're consistent every day you show up.
00:43:18Robert, hit or miss, we don't know what's walking in the door.
00:43:21I'm literally here every day.
00:43:23Literally here.
00:43:24No, you have been on it.
00:43:25But the bottom line is when Freddie Peralta walks in the door, you know exactly what you're getting.
00:43:31You're getting elevated heater.
00:43:33You're getting the extension.
00:43:34It's a matter of does that heater still play four or five years down the road?
00:43:39Because that's what he's built his career on.
00:43:41Good question.
00:43:41Right?
00:43:41Yeah.
00:43:42You sit there and watch Freddie Peralta on a nightly basis, top rail those four-seamers,
00:43:46and you're like, how are guys not getting on this?
00:43:49And again, you bring up the extension board and the induced vertical break,
00:43:52and you dive in on all the metrics, and he's really good.
00:43:56I think for me, in any rotation that has a chance to go on and succeed in the postseason,
00:44:02a guy like Freddie Peralta would sit right in your 2-3 slot, and you'd be fired up about it.
00:44:07If he wants ace money, and he wants six, seven years,
00:44:11then you might have to entertain moving him at the deadline.
00:44:13I can't imagine how many questions like that are going on in Flushing Queens about the future of that team.
00:44:19Let's go to Milwaukee, where the Brewers got Logan webbed.
00:44:23My gosh.
00:44:24Flirted with a perfect game.
00:44:26Carried a no-hit bid into the seventh, and he said he kept saying, you have a no-hitter.
00:44:29You have a no-hitter.
00:44:30It was vintage Logan.
00:44:32My favorite thing about you talking about him and the WBC is that so many pitchers have this perfect routine
00:44:38with the bands,
00:44:39and Logan just said, I'm good.
00:44:40He's a bulldog.
00:44:41Give me the ball.
00:44:42Yeah.
00:44:42I'm good.
00:44:43And you know what?
00:44:44He got off to a rough start.
00:44:45I think a lot had to do with his IL stint.
00:44:48I think he was pitching through some knee pain, whether he was landing funny or compromising it.
00:44:53It was the right thing to do to grab 15 days on the IL, get it right, come back,
00:44:58and he's been in his two starts back.
00:44:59He's been really good.
00:45:00But I think the thing for Logan Webb for me is he even said last night, he kept telling himself,
00:45:06walking to the mound, I got a no-hitter, I got a no-hitter, because he gives up a ton
00:45:10of hits.
00:45:10He pitches to contact.
00:45:12But when you watch him, man, you think it's nothing but sinker sweeper.
00:45:18He's so much more than that, the way he competes in the zone.
00:45:21He's got one of the dirtiest change-ups in the entire sport, and he's not afraid to elevate the four
00:45:26-seamer as well.
00:45:27He has a lot of weapons, a lot of fight, a lot of want.
00:45:31He wants to be the ace of the staff.
00:45:33He wants to lead by example.
00:45:34That organization certainly needs him to be great.
00:45:37Giants and Brewers continue that series a little bit later today in Milwaukee.
00:45:41Meantime, we showed you earlier the Atlanta Braves winning again against the Toronto Blue Jays
00:45:48and former Astro Mauricio Dubon.
00:45:51I think of you every single time.
00:45:53Yeah, that was a big hit.
00:45:55I know there's a lot of Astro fans that feel a certain way about that deal that sent Mauricio Dubon
00:46:01to the Atlanta Braves.
00:46:03But in 50 ABs this season, Mauricio Dubon is hitting .340 with runners in scoring position and 30 RBIs.
00:46:13He's one of the examples of why the Braves are 42-20.
00:46:17Him, Dom Smith, Matt Olsen, Michael Harris, the bullpen.
00:46:23Everything that could go right has gone right for this ball club.
00:46:26And they were decimated.
00:46:28I remember coming out of spring training, I'm like, oh my God, the Braves are getting just crippled with injuries.
00:46:34In their third straight year, by the way.
00:46:34And now Strider's back in the fold.
00:46:36They are a massive problem.
00:46:38I was sitting there, though, on the ride over.
00:46:41Because talk about, like, under-the-radar trades in the offseason.
00:46:44This is certainly one of them.
00:46:46They gave up Nick Allen.
00:46:47Nick Allen, by the way, had a knock last night off all schemes.
00:46:50And I was saying, who is the most under-the-radar trade?
00:46:55Kyle Harrison.
00:46:57Kyle who?
00:46:57Oh, Brandon Lau to Pittsburgh.
00:47:00Oh, yeah.
00:47:01That's a good call.
00:47:01So there's a couple guys.
00:47:02That could be a D-list down the road here.
00:47:04But Mauricio would certainly be on that list.
00:47:07What was he with the Astros compared to now?
00:47:09He was what you're seeing here.
00:47:12But I think he's taken it to a new level here.
00:47:15He plays everywhere.
00:47:17He's got surprising pop.
00:47:20He'll slap a good A-B on you.
00:47:22And by all accounts, his teammates love him.
00:47:25So this is exactly what he was doing in Houston.
00:47:27But I think he's gotten a tick better.
00:47:30And maybe it's because the opportunity has been more consistent.
00:47:34He's the only big leaguer from...
00:47:36Where's he from?
00:47:37Is he from Nicaragua?
00:47:39Nace, hook me up with that research.
00:47:42Honduras?
00:47:43Honduras.
00:47:44I mean, you imagine him going back there.
00:47:47Oh, yeah.
00:47:48And he's also a good golfer.
00:47:50He's hitting the streets in Honduras.
00:47:51He's married.
00:47:53Oh.
00:47:54Okay.
00:47:55Go to commercial.
00:47:56Well, if he wasn't, he'd dominate Honduras.
00:48:01Dominating Latin America.
00:48:03Okay.
00:48:04Hey, still to come here on this edition of MLB Central, we've got Aaron Boone set to join us.
00:48:11Cam Slipler of the New York Yankees also set to join us.
00:48:15And Kate Smith of the Cleveland Guardians.
00:48:19That's our three guests that we've got, and hopefully a little bit more.
00:48:22You never know.
00:48:23Let's get weird.
00:48:24Giancarlo, we see you.
00:48:26We're definitely asking you to come over.
00:48:28Petro, go grab Jazz.
00:48:29Yeah, go get Jazz.
00:48:30What do we do?
00:48:31Let's do something.
00:48:38Welcome back.
00:48:39Welcome back.
00:48:40MLB Central is on the road.
00:48:43Lauren, I was waiting for a cue.
00:48:45Lucas gave you three.
00:48:46No, he didn't.
00:48:46I didn't hear it.
00:48:48D-Row.
00:48:48MLB Central is on the road.
00:48:50Guardians, Yankees.
00:48:51We're here at Yankee Stadium.
00:48:53Comes your way a little bit later this afternoon.
00:48:55Some of you can watch that game right here on MLB Network.
00:48:58Time now for your Sage Pitcher Power Rankings.
00:49:06Everything just looks like a blur out of his hand.
00:49:09Blowing away again.
00:49:10Swing and a miss and a fastball in.
00:49:12No shot.
00:49:14Blame and a miss strike.
00:49:16And the numbers are grotesque.
00:49:17This guy's unbelievable.
00:49:19Struck him out.
00:49:19He's got a dozen.
00:49:21Rips through a high heel.
00:49:22The birds is mulling him down.
00:49:24That changeup that he has is so different and so nasty.
00:49:26Swing and a miss.
00:49:27He got him.
00:49:28Seven shot out innings.
00:49:37All right, so your pitcher Power Rankings Courtesy Sage
00:49:41look like this at number one.
00:49:43Christopher Sanchez and why not?
00:49:45Jacob Mizorowski certainly has the case for that spot.
00:49:48And Cam Schlittler, who is set to join us here
00:49:50along our set, along the first baseline here at Yankee Stadium.
00:49:54He is also inside that top five.
00:49:56Chris Sale will get the start today for the Atlanta Braves
00:50:00against the Toronto Blue Jays.
00:50:01I mean, you're one of the best in the business.
00:50:03This is your worst block maybe, maybe ever.
00:50:07What are you saying?
00:50:09Absolutely not true.
00:50:11Do you hope?
00:50:11Look at the temperature here at Yankee Stadium.
00:50:14A little over 78 degrees here.
00:50:17You're an heavy board winner, for goodness sakes.
00:50:19Okay.
00:50:20Yeah, keep laughing it up when you're not here
00:50:23on Tuesdays or Wednesdays or in August
00:50:26when I'm going to take off and you're left
00:50:28doing the food segment by yourself.
00:50:31Day game in August.
00:50:33Yeah.
00:50:33Have fun.
00:50:34Go get them, Lauren.
00:50:35Go get them.
00:50:47Cam Schlittler burst on the scene last year,
00:50:49got some of the most meaningful outs for New York
00:50:51last October, and it has continued this year.
00:50:54Look at this, Cy Young candidates in the American League.
00:50:57Lowest CRA in the AL so far,
00:50:59and he joins us this morning on MLB Central.
00:51:01Good morning to you, Cam.
00:51:02Thanks so much for the time.
00:51:03It's not close either.
00:51:03It's not close.
00:51:05Thank you guys for having me.
00:51:06I appreciate it.
00:51:07We're such fans because I feel like,
00:51:09oh, we've been doing this show for how many?
00:51:11A decade.
00:51:11Yeah.
00:51:12And we've seen so many great talents put on this uniform
00:51:14and kind of cower to it,
00:51:15and you seem to be the exact opposite,
00:51:17almost embracing it.
00:51:18How would you describe your time in this uniform so far?
00:51:21Yeah, I appreciate it.
00:51:22I mean, again, you know, it's tough to put the pinstripes on,
00:51:25and, you know, the fans are loud,
00:51:27and they expect excellence.
00:51:28So, you know, coming up here, you know, I felt comfortable.
00:51:31You know, the guys are great, you know,
00:51:32great leadership in the locker room,
00:51:33and that definitely helps, you know,
00:51:35translate onto the field.
00:51:36So it's been a good transition so far.
00:51:38Take me through the evolution of Cam Schlittler, please.
00:51:41Seventh-round pick coming out of Northeastern.
00:51:44What were you like in high school?
00:51:46And then this, was it a massive velo jump
00:51:49in the minor leagues, or was this gradual?
00:51:51Yeah, I think from the minor leagues to now,
00:51:54it was definitely more gradual.
00:51:56You know, I think from high school to college,
00:51:58you know, throwing 88, 90, you know, get to college,
00:52:00you can maybe touch 95 here and there,
00:52:02but you're averaging 90.
00:52:03Just bigger, stronger, faster?
00:52:05Yeah, you know, I get drafted, they're like,
00:52:06hey, you know, let's put some weight on.
00:52:08We'll clean up the mechanics.
00:52:09So first goal is obviously to put weight on,
00:52:11put on about 20 pounds.
00:52:14You know, last year I was able to kind of find my ideal weight.
00:52:17And, you know, Preston Claiborne, you know, the bullpen coach,
00:52:20you know, I worked with him, you know, in the minors
00:52:22and cleaned up the mechanics.
00:52:23And, you know, went from sitting 93 and 24, you know,
00:52:28by the end of 24, sitting 95,
00:52:30and then taking it to 25 in spring training,
00:52:33you know, sitting 95 in double A
00:52:34and gradually, you know, went up in triple A, you know,
00:52:37from 96 and then, you know, to the big leagues, sitting 98.
00:52:39So it wasn't like a huge, like, immediate jump,
00:52:42but it was, you know, gradually over time,
00:52:44was able to see, you know, that peak and velo.
00:52:45All right, and when do you start going,
00:52:48all right, now I know I got the hot four-seamer.
00:52:51I'm going to do sinker.
00:52:52I'm going to add the cutter.
00:52:53You're pitching with one pitch.
00:52:55I know.
00:52:55In the show.
00:52:56I know.
00:52:57I like it.
00:52:58Again, I mean, again, I didn't have it.
00:52:59And it's working.
00:53:00Well, the thing is, when I got drafted,
00:53:01like, you're never going to throw a two-seam
00:53:03because, like, it just wouldn't work with, you know,
00:53:04the bat path or whatever.
00:53:05So, and then, you know, added the cutter last year in double A
00:53:08right before I got up to triple A.
00:53:09I was able to kind of work on that pitch, you know,
00:53:12when I took it in the postseason.
00:53:13It's kind of similar to the pitch it is now, you know, 94, 95.
00:53:17I was able to add some ride to it, you know,
00:53:19still keeping the horizontal, which has been great for me.
00:53:21And then, you know, was developing the two-seam last year,
00:53:23you know, in season.
00:53:24Just getting more of a runner that I'm able to get in on the righties.
00:53:27It works.
00:53:27In on the lefties.
00:53:28And, you know, I took that into the playoffs.
00:53:29I realized that's something I could use.
00:53:31So, kind of going into this season,
00:53:32I kind of find my identity of using the three fastballs
00:53:35and playing off each other.
00:53:36Being a bully.
00:53:37What do you like on games or on days that you pitch?
00:53:40And how would you describe your demeanor on the mound?
00:53:43Yeah, I think, you know, obviously, you know, you've got a job to do.
00:53:47I feel like my personality, the four other days,
00:53:50are a lot different than the days I am pitching.
00:53:52You can feel it.
00:53:53Yeah, definitely.
00:53:54So, again, you know, I'm pretty locked in.
00:53:57Again, being a Yankee, you know,
00:53:58the importance of success and winning games is kind of really all that matters.
00:54:03So, going out there and competing at the highest level
00:54:05and, you know, trusting the defense and the offense behind me
00:54:08to, you know, get runs and put us in a position to win games.
00:54:10We were just talking about Paul Skeens and how he's so dominant.
00:54:14If he gives up a run, we all go, oh, my gosh,
00:54:16the dominance has been well-documented this year.
00:54:19So, if there's a tick down, drop in velocity, everyone goes.
00:54:22How do you deal with the ebbs and the flows,
00:54:24just the natural progression of start to start?
00:54:26For sure.
00:54:26Again, I mean, I made 17 starts last year.
00:54:32I've had conversations.
00:54:33Again, it's great to have guys with a lot of, you know, service time.
00:54:36You know, we've got Hall of Famers in here, All-Stars.
00:54:39And, you know, just being able to talk to Garrett, Max, and Carlos.
00:54:42And, you know, I specifically had a conversation with Carlos about, you know,
00:54:44the whole velo kind of going up and down.
00:54:47And he's just, you know, like that's natural.
00:54:49You know, you're going to have months where you throw harder.
00:54:51You're going to have months where, you know, you're a little bit down.
00:54:53You can't really think about that stuff.
00:54:55You know, obviously, Paul's, I guess, is what, a mile down.
00:54:59And people worry about that.
00:55:00But he's still pitching, you know, at an accident level.
00:55:02So, similar to me as well.
00:55:05You know, I've been a little bit down here and there.
00:55:07And that's just kind of the natural flow of things.
00:55:09What's been your best moment in Pinstripe so far?
00:55:11No, I like that.
00:55:13I mean, it's hard to compete with, you know, the playoff start, you know, the first one.
00:55:18Against the Red Sox.
00:55:18Yeah, again, frustrating how the season ended.
00:55:20But in terms of being able to experience the playoffs and the environment here, it was definitely special.
00:55:27The music just started.
00:55:28What's the greatest song of all time?
00:55:29Oh, my God.
00:55:30He always says I throw these.
00:55:32I don't know.
00:55:33What's your favorite song?
00:55:34If you're looking at New York and probably the greatest song, it's probably Empire State of Mind, I would say.
00:55:40There we go.
00:55:40And you live in this city.
00:55:41Oh, yeah.
00:55:42Love it.
00:55:43Love it.
00:55:43Best city in the world.
00:55:44If you weren't a pitcher, what would you be?
00:55:46If I what?
00:55:47If you didn't do this, what would you be?
00:55:48What would you do for a living?
00:55:50I don't know.
00:55:51I don't have a degree yet.
00:55:52So I'd probably go back to college.
00:55:53I figure that out.
00:55:55Police chief, right?
00:55:56Yeah.
00:55:56I did.
00:55:56I did major in crim and psych.
00:55:59I did actually find the psychology a little bit more interesting.
00:56:02But being a cop isn't it's not always the most fun job now.
00:56:07So you weren't able to have any fun when you were growing up, right?
00:56:10He was tough.
00:56:11He was tough.
00:56:11He was tough.
00:56:12Tell me.
00:56:12He's the reason I'm in the position I'm in.
00:56:13But, yeah, he's a little bit more strict.
00:56:15You got to look out for his, you know, reputation and all that.
00:56:21So definitely try to see a lot of things.
00:56:23What do we have for breakfast in there?
00:56:25Oh, we got some eggs from toast.
00:56:27Oh, there you go.
00:56:28Yeah, really good.
00:56:28There you go.
00:56:29Really good.
00:56:29The chefs are top-notch here.
00:56:31I know.
00:56:31This is my favorite.
00:56:32Come here.
00:56:32I bet.
00:56:33Game on.
00:56:34You got here an hour earlier, fettuccine Alfredo with some grilled chick.
00:56:37My son is studying to be a psychologist.
00:56:40You and I can talk.
00:56:41Oh, for sure.
00:56:42For sure.
00:56:43I'm sure you got some questions.
00:56:45Hey, thank you very much for joining us.
00:56:47Thank you.
00:56:47I appreciate it.
00:56:48I appreciate it.
00:56:48Good luck the rest of the way.
00:56:49Thank you.
00:56:50I appreciate that.
00:56:50You got it.
00:56:50That's New York Yankee pitcher Cam Schlittler joining us here on this edition of MLB Central
00:56:55on the Road.
00:56:56Let's continue this pitching theme because when we come back, he's arguably the best closer
00:57:02in the game.
00:57:04Kate Smith of the Cleveland Guardians.
00:57:06It's closing time, but in the morning.
00:57:10Semi-Sonic, 1-0.
00:57:11What's that?
00:57:11Semi-Sonic, 1-0.
00:57:13Yep, that's right.
00:57:15Stay with us.
00:57:27MLB Central.
00:57:29Everything, the Kate Crusader?
00:57:30Yeah, he's been outstanding this year.
00:57:33Swung out and missed.
00:57:34He got him to chase.
00:57:35There you go.
00:57:35No, it's Power City right there.
00:57:38Book it.
00:57:38Kate Smith, his major league leading 20th save of the year.
00:57:43He strikes out three in a row.
00:57:45When you put the ball in the hands of guys like Kate Smith, you can slam the door.
00:57:49Yeah.
00:57:50Pretty much 17 consecutive saves now for Kate.
00:57:54It's easy to just throw your best pitch every single time exactly where you want it.
00:57:57Well, one thing we do know about the Cleveland Guardians is that they know how to develop
00:58:02pitching, especially in the bullpen.
00:58:05And the latest, Kate Smith.
00:58:07He's the closer for this team as the Guardians look for the sweep this afternoon at Yankee Stadium.
00:58:11So far this year, well, he's the AL reliever of the month, and why not?
00:58:1613 for 13 in save opportunities across 13 and two-third innings.
00:58:21He has given up two earned runs.
00:58:22The strikeout-to-walk ratio is ridiculous.
00:58:26It's bananas.
00:58:2625 Ks, one walks.
00:58:28And Kate Smith of Cleveland Guardians joins us now here at Yankee Stadium.
00:58:32How are you today?
00:58:33I'm doing well.
00:58:33Thanks for having me.
00:58:34We asked you, I asked you during the break, are you aware that since 2024, when you arrived
00:58:40to the big leagues, you have the best fielding independent pitching among all relievers?
00:58:45I was not aware.
00:58:48How do you consume the information, the stats, things like that?
00:58:54I'd be mostly just through the app platform that they have.
00:58:58I don't have social media, so I just do it that way.
00:59:01A lot of conversation with the pitching coaches and try to keep my kind of notes in the grindstone.
00:59:06You know what?
00:59:07That is the smartest thing I think I've ever heard.
00:59:08That is the smartest thing.
00:59:09You guys have been trying to quit for a year.
00:59:10It's like a drug.
00:59:11I've been canceled like four times this year.
00:59:13I keep coming back, Cade.
00:59:14We just had Cam Schlittler on, and he was kind of jumping off the fielding independent pitching.
00:59:20You could tell.
00:59:21He pitches with three variations of his heater, and he really dives in on the metrics.
00:59:25Are you a guy that you're on the track, man, on the kind of diving in, on extension?
00:59:31You're one of the big extension guys.
00:59:33Fastball plays up.
00:59:34What are you looking at?
00:59:35Yeah, I mean, that's definitely been a big part of my development with this organization,
00:59:39coming in and learning what made my fastball good, how that was a strength for me, how
00:59:44to utilize that, how to develop it, and try and complement it with my other pitches and
00:59:47the way that I use it.
00:59:48So it's definitely been something I've tried to educate myself about.
00:59:51Learning by your fastball.
00:59:52It's so interesting you say that because after every game, you say, I'm still learning.
00:59:56You often say that, and I'm thinking, what's he still learning?
01:00:00Because the results are the same.
01:00:01What else, through each outing, are you taking away?
01:00:05Well, I think that, I mean, I frankly never want to stop learning, even if it is something.
01:00:10I mean, some days it'll be more glaring than others.
01:00:12Yeah.
01:00:12It'll be a big thing as far as execution or choosing a pitch I did or maybe not being convicted
01:00:18or something like that.
01:00:19Other days it can be something small, something minute.
01:00:21But, I mean, we're playing a game of fractions of inches here, so trying to take anything
01:00:26that I can, glean from whatever outing, learn from it, and take that heart and move on.
01:00:31Who's the one guy, I mean, Jose's starting to get hot.
01:00:34We knew he would.
01:00:35Who's the one guy on this roster, position player or pitcher, that we don't mention enough?
01:00:42Because I'm pretty good with the Rogios of the world and the Schneemans of the world,
01:00:47giving them their love.
01:00:48Is there somebody in the pen that we're not?
01:00:50I mean, I think I've got to be a sucker for those middle relievers.
01:00:53All right, give me one.
01:00:53That was the role I played.
01:00:54Hunter Gattis has played phenomenally in that role for a long time.
01:00:58Eric Sparowski's doing phenomenal.
01:00:59Of course, he's on the injury list right now.
01:01:01But, I mean, each of those guys down there, we're throwing a lot of innings, making a lot
01:01:05of appearances.
01:01:06But it's been a huge part of the way that we play the game and games that we have won
01:01:11is having all those guys down there.
01:01:12So, a lot of love for my bullpen.
01:01:15That's a phenomenal group to be part of.
01:01:16So much fun.
01:01:17There seems to be a nice dynamic there.
01:01:19Like, I'll pick you up.
01:01:20You pick me up.
01:01:20What are the conversations like about all pulling in the right direction, the same direction
01:01:24there?
01:01:25I think for the most part, it's pretty loose.
01:01:28Like, there's a lot of really good camaraderie.
01:01:30Just the kind of normal jokes and, like, poking guys and just giving us a hard time, like,
01:01:39stuff like that.
01:01:39So, really, it's just enjoying that kind of culture and how it settles with the unique
01:01:43personalities that kind of come in.
01:01:45Because baseball is definitely a way to meet a bunch of unique personalities.
01:01:48What is it about this organization, the pitching lab, that allows development like yours and
01:01:54others specifically in the bullpen and the pitching staff as a whole that leads to success?
01:02:00I think the thing that I noticed when I first signed and started that, like, really intense
01:02:05developmental pursuit was that there was no one I came across who was naive enough to
01:02:10think that they knew everything.
01:02:11And so, any question that I asked, they would recognize it and be like, I'm going to check
01:02:16back with the group.
01:02:17Like, I recognize that this might be outside my area of expertise.
01:02:20I'm going to check with the experts we do have in that field.
01:02:23And then we're going to get back with you with a cohesive answer and continue the conversation
01:02:27that way.
01:02:28Are you a New York City guy?
01:02:29Are you getting out of your hotel?
01:02:31Definitely been getting around.
01:02:32My wife and I have been walking around.
01:02:34But cities maybe...
01:02:36I didn't grow up in it, so maybe not be my cup of tea.
01:02:39It can be a lot.
01:02:40It can be a lot.
01:02:41We talk about your position and the bullpen in general as if it's a volatile position.
01:02:46We just showed your stats.
01:02:47It's as consistent as they come.
01:02:50How have you found, and members of the bullpen, found such consistency in a volatile position?
01:02:56I mean, my mom would tell me all the time growing up, take it one day at a time.
01:03:00One day at a time.
01:03:02I mean, the goal today is very clear.
01:03:04We're playing to win the game today.
01:03:05We'll worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.
01:03:07So, that's something I think has been a part of my upbringing for a long time.
01:03:11It applies perfectly to this kind of job.
01:03:14And the beauty of baseball is if you go out there and you have a bad outing, especially
01:03:17in the bullpen, you can be available for the next game.
01:03:19So, you can flush it, learn from it, move on, show up, ready to play and win the game
01:03:22the next day.
01:03:23Is there a temperament that closers, the best in the game, all have in your mind?
01:03:28I mean, I can't speak for others, but a big part of my temperament is my faith.
01:03:34I know that I'm grounded and steady and consistent, and I'm defined by something that's not actually
01:03:39baseball.
01:03:39So, there's going to be ups and downs.
01:03:41There's highs and lows.
01:03:42That doesn't shake me.
01:03:43That doesn't change who I am.
01:03:44I'm actually, I'm washed, justified, and sanctified by the blood of Jesus Christ.
01:03:48So, that's the most important thing for me.
01:03:49Give them the ball, Lauren.
01:03:51Get out of the way.
01:03:52Were you a multi-sport guy growing up?
01:03:53I played basketball and volleyball up through high school, actually.
01:03:57You dominated in volleyball, huh?
01:03:58I was just a big, tall guy in the middle who could jump and hit it hard.
01:04:00You look like an NFL quarterback walking over here.
01:04:03I can't throw a very good spiral.
01:04:05From Canada, played college ball in Hawaii.
01:04:09I mean, that is a...
01:04:10That is a...
01:04:11I learned how to surf, yeah.
01:04:12That is two ends of the weather spectrum.
01:04:16Could you live in Hawaii full-time?
01:04:18No, I don't think so.
01:04:19I think it's far from family.
01:04:20Yeah, I always wondered that if I could live there full-time.
01:04:23What does he eat for breakfast, this table?
01:04:25Nails.
01:04:26What did you eat for breakfast?
01:04:27Today, hash browns, scrambled eggs, sausage, glass of milk.
01:04:31Glass of milk.
01:04:32Sounds like the recipe for success.
01:04:34I prefer whole milk.
01:04:36I don't know.
01:04:36I just kind of grabbed the cart.
01:04:38He's drinking skim or almond?
01:04:40You think he's doing 2%?
01:04:42No, he's doing whole milk.
01:04:43Look at him.
01:04:44Look at him, for God's sake.
01:04:45Lukewarm.
01:04:46He's got a milkman.
01:04:47Okay, thank you very much for joining us.
01:04:49We appreciate it.
01:04:50Very insightful answers.
01:04:51We really appreciate the time.
01:04:53Good luck today, and good luck the rest of the way.
01:04:55Thank you.
01:04:55Thanks for having me.
01:04:55You got it.
01:04:56That's Kate Smith of the Cleveland Guardians.
01:04:58And he's a killer.
01:04:58Yes, he is.
01:04:59Joining us here at Yankee Stadium as the Guardians look for the sweep this afternoon against the New York Yankees.
01:05:06We will have a little bit more central.
01:05:08How much more central?
01:05:09About a half hour more central.
01:05:11Live from Yankee Stadium when we come back.
01:05:13Stay with us.
01:05:29Welcome back.
01:05:30MLB Central is live on the road at Yankee Stadium in advance of this afternoon's game between the Guardians and
01:05:36the Yankees.
01:05:37Guardians looking for the sweep after taking the first two, including last night at the expense of the Yankees.
01:05:43Aaron Judge missing the first two games of the series.
01:05:47Set to be joined by Aaron Boone a little bit later.
01:05:50Time now for some FanDuel prop bets.
01:05:52Let's get it going.
01:05:54Here we go.
01:05:56Let's start in this game.
01:05:57Jose Ramirez to record at least two total bases.
01:06:00Of course, the switch hitter facing the lefty, Carlos Rodon.
01:06:03I mean, we have to take it.
01:06:05Yep.
01:06:05We have to feel good about it, too.
01:06:08Rodon, Ramirez rather, is six for nine, three doubles, and a homer in this series.
01:06:14He has faced Rodon 62 times in his career.
01:06:1613 for 53, five extra base hits, 245, batting average.
01:06:23Ben Rice to record at least one RBI.
01:06:27You playing it?
01:06:28You're staying away.
01:06:31Yeah, give it to me.
01:06:33Slade likes to go when it's predicated on him.
01:06:36Slade Zaccone is the starter for the Cleveland Guardians.
01:06:42He's hitting, Ben Rice is hitting 303 with a slug of 662.
01:06:46Five and a half.
01:06:48Yep, that's what it is.
01:06:49Is that what it is?
01:06:50Carlos Rodon over five and a half base.
01:06:52She likes it.
01:06:53Over.
01:06:56Rodon has gone over five and a half strikeouts in two of his four starts this season.
01:07:04Guys, FanDuel, I am losing my voice.
01:07:06You're going to be doing the show tomorrow by yourself.
01:07:08No, because Zero's not here.
01:07:08I can't.
01:07:09I'm from the home cam.
01:07:11FanDuel is inviting you to call your shot with Daily Dinger.
01:07:14Make your free pick on who's hitting a home run in their game.
01:07:17If you're right, you'll get a profit boost the next day.
01:07:19Play your game on FanDuel, the home of home runs.
01:07:22The streak might be coming to an end tomorrow, guys.
01:07:24Go get them tomorrow, Lauren.
01:07:26Thank you.
01:07:26You by yourself and the food and the whole thing.
01:07:28The whole thing.
01:07:29Ballpark cam up and running.
01:07:32Yankee Stadium this afternoon.
01:07:34Guardians looking for the sweep.
01:07:35It's a game media, if you can see, right here on the network.
01:07:37Set to join us a little bit later, Aaron Boone, Yankee skipper, talking about the season
01:07:42thus far.
01:07:42And we'll also ask him how Aaron Judge is feeling as well.
01:07:45More Central after this.
01:07:46Stay with us.
01:07:56MLB Central is presented by Home Depot.
01:07:59Robert giving us the background music.
01:08:02Beautiful voice.
01:08:03We're on the air in the Bronx.
01:08:04We're presented by Home Depot.
01:08:07So happy to have all of you with us.
01:08:09The Yankees trying to salvage that last game of a three-game set with the Cleveland Guardians.
01:08:12You can watch that game right here on MLB Network.
01:08:15You, Mark DeRosa, spent the last half of 2009 in a Cleveland uniform.
01:08:21First half got traded to the Cardinals.
01:08:23That's what it was.
01:08:24And you were in this park to kind of open it up.
01:08:27When it opened.
01:08:27And did a little damage.
01:08:29You hate to dig yourself on this show.
01:08:31We've been doing this show for 12 years.
01:08:32You never show a highlight.
01:08:34But we can.
01:08:34We're allowed.
01:08:35We're your friends.
01:08:36Back-to-back home runs.
01:08:38What do you remember about these?
01:08:39Dig yourself for a second.
01:08:40I remember opening the place.
01:08:41It was, you know, going to the old Yankee Stadium as a kid.
01:08:45And then getting a chance to play in that.
01:08:47When they built this in 09.
01:08:49It was just so grandiose and unbelievable.
01:08:54But when you walked out, you're like, oh, God.
01:08:57There's a jet stream to right center here.
01:08:59There is.
01:09:00You could feel it.
01:09:01Right?
01:09:02So we got opening day 09, I think, in this yard.
01:09:05It was CC.
01:09:06I don't remember having much success that day.
01:09:08But then we got rolling.
01:09:10What did it mean to you to go yard in this, against the Yankees in this building?
01:09:14Can I be completely honest with you?
01:09:17Yeah.
01:09:17Yeah, you have those inner moments throughout the game.
01:09:19Like old Yankee Stadium certainly meant a lot more than the new Yankee Stadium just going there as a kid.
01:09:24But I wanted to perform well so after the game my family was in a good mood.
01:09:32Because if I was 0 for 4, I would just want to go back to the hotel and hide in
01:09:36my room.
01:09:36But 2 for 3 with a walk and a bomb.
01:09:39I wanted to enjoy the homecoming.
01:09:39Where are we going to dinner, guys?
01:09:41You go deep the next night?
01:09:43I'm buying.
01:09:44Absolutely.
01:09:45Hey, some things never change.
01:09:46You're always – now you're still buying.
01:09:48You're still buying.
01:09:48You're still buying.
01:09:49Thank you.
01:09:50Let's go front and center, show you what you may have missed.
01:09:53Shohei Otani was on base how many times?
01:09:56Five.
01:09:56Five times.
01:09:57And he threw six shutout innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
01:10:01Now the Diamondbacks won the first game of this four-game set.
01:10:04But the last two nights, it's been the Dodgers.
01:10:07And Shohei Otani, he got three hits, six scoreless, six strikeouts.
01:10:13Dodgers shut out the Diamondbacks to win 7-0.
01:10:17Speaking of pitching excellence, let's celebrate Christopher Sanchez.
01:10:22The scoreless streak comes to an end at 50 and two-third innings.
01:10:27That is the most by a left-handed pitcher all time.
01:10:30Fifth all time overall.
01:10:33Kyle Schwarber with a solo homer in the seventh against the Padres.
01:10:37And the Phillies go on to win.
01:10:39What I love, Robert, is that JT gave him the lead.
01:10:43That's right.
01:10:43Two to one with his homer.
01:10:44Big homerun from the Phillies catcher.
01:10:47Our top story in Houston.
01:10:49The Pirates had a five-run lead late in this game.
01:10:53And the Astros 0-32 this season when trailing after seven.
01:10:58But they scored six runs in the eighth.
01:11:00And then Josh Hader makes his season debut.
01:11:03Came on for the save.
01:11:05Astros their best win of the year.
01:11:0711-9 over the Pirates.
01:11:09Royals, Reds, pitching duel.
01:11:11Chase Burns, Tyler Coleth.
01:11:14Both with quality starts.
01:11:17But it was Nick at night.
01:11:20Nick Lofton.
01:11:21A two-run homer in the ninth inning.
01:11:24It's Steven Coleth.
01:11:27Tyler's on the Knicks.
01:11:29Oh.
01:11:31We got Knicks on the brain right now.
01:11:33We got Knicks on the brain.
01:11:33Can't help it.
01:11:34Jeez.
01:11:35All right, we'll fix that for the rear.
01:11:37There's a rear?
01:11:38There's a one-hour cut down.
01:11:40That's not going to make it.
01:11:40We've only been doing bumps during the commercial break for the one-hour cut down.
01:11:44I've been tanning, honey.
01:11:45I don't know what to tell you.
01:11:46Thank you.
01:11:46Hey, the Miami Marlins got the sweep in Washington.
01:11:50Max Meyer was on once.
01:11:51Yes, he was.
01:11:53Meyer, seven innings, one run, seven strikeouts.
01:11:56Marlins win four to one.
01:11:58Tigers sweep the Rays.
01:12:00Dylan Dingler.
01:12:01You got the touch.
01:12:02He was the DH yesterday.
01:12:04Went deep again.
01:12:05Three-run homer.
01:12:06Willier Abreu.
01:12:07Seven to two.
01:12:08Yeah, Willier Abreu.
01:12:09Had multiple hits last night against the Orioles.
01:12:12Two-run homer.
01:12:13Peyton Toley, a breath of fresh air.
01:12:16Six scoreless.
01:12:17Five strikeouts.
01:12:17Red Sox win eight to one.
01:12:19If you're not seeing his post-games interviews, you're missing out.
01:12:23He is a treat.
01:12:26Rockies, Angels, Anaheim.
01:12:27The Angels offense exploded with help throughout the lineup.
01:12:33The Angels offense, 16 hits, 11 runs.
01:12:38Angels go on to win 11-4 over the Rockies.
01:12:44All right.
01:12:45You see this right here?
01:12:47Hey, speaking of soccer.
01:12:49We got World Cup on the line.
01:12:50I know they got World Cup on the brain.
01:12:52What I am noticing, though, is Hacky Sack is making a massive comeback.
01:12:57Where?
01:12:58In youth baseball.
01:13:00Oh, my God.
01:13:00I'm not kidding.
01:13:01I'm seeing it all over the place.
01:13:04Scam.
01:13:05Hacky Sack scam.
01:13:07Hey, we're going to be talking about the All-Star game.
01:13:11Also taking a closer look at the race and the ballots at second base.
01:13:29Time now for the Konami eBaseball All-Star Ballot Watch.
01:13:34Remember the All-Star game in Philadelphia?
01:13:37What, about five weeks from now?
01:13:39Can't wait.
01:13:39We'll be headed there.
01:13:40MLB Central will be there.
01:13:41We still haven't figured out what our travel arrangements are, thanks to D-Rowe and Lauren.
01:13:45It's in Philly.
01:13:46Take a look at the battle and race for second base in the National League.
01:13:50Not easy here.
01:13:51Yeah, there's some good names.
01:13:53Off to really good starts.
01:13:55Xavier Edwards, Brandon Lau, Bryce Terang, and J.J.
01:13:58Weatherholt.
01:13:59A reminder.
01:14:00Fill out your 2026 Konami eBaseball MLB All-Star Ballot now at MLB.com slash vote.
01:14:10I'm just saying the travel department would like to know what our arrangements are so they're
01:14:14not having to do it last minute.
01:14:15But hey, whatever works for you two.
01:14:17I'm going to get there somehow.
01:14:20Hey, when we come back, we're going to be joined by Aaron Boone, Yankees skipper.
01:14:26We're going to ask him how the season's going, the status of the Yankees captain Aaron Judge,
01:14:31and I think we're going to play a little surprise.
01:14:34A little who can it be now.
01:14:35A little who can it be now.
01:14:36He claims to be the best player in the world.
01:14:38He's the best.
01:14:39We'll see.
01:14:40We'll see.
01:14:40A black mistrust and some beat-up sneaks.
01:14:44My discotheque, Juliet, teenage dream.
01:14:48I've stopped eating my chance so she looked at me.
01:14:52Welcome back.
01:14:53MLB Central presented by Home Depot.
01:14:55A picture-perfect day in the Bronx.
01:14:57D-Ro doesn't believe in sunscreen, so do with that what you will.
01:15:00New York Yankees get the Guardians again in Game 3 of a three-game set in their house.
01:15:06You can watch it right here on MLB Network, an afternoon game.
01:15:10How awesome is that?
01:15:11Let's go to X right now for the latest on Aaron Judge.
01:15:14This from Brian Hoek.
01:15:15He put this on Twitter not too long ago, talking about his status.
01:15:19He went for an MRI last night.
01:15:21X-ray and CT scan it today.
01:15:22The Yankees still looking for a complete diagnosis, said the skipper of the Yankees, Aaron Boone.
01:15:28We don't have to go to Twitter for that information.
01:15:31We have him with us.
01:15:32Manager interviews are presented by Sage.
01:15:35Aaron Boone, good morning to you.
01:15:36Let's go.
01:15:36Let's go.
01:15:37Thrilled to have you with us.
01:15:39Well, it's good to be here.
01:15:39Glad.
01:15:40Welcome to the boogie down.
01:15:41You got it.
01:15:42Welcome to the boogie down.
01:15:42We just heard the latest on Aaron Judge.
01:15:44Anything you can add?
01:15:46Nothing.
01:15:46We're waiting.
01:15:48As I told our B-riders now in my presser, like, trust me, I want to know as much as
01:15:53everyone else.
01:15:55Maybe even more.
01:15:56Maybe even more.
01:15:56But, you know, he had some edema around there.
01:16:00So, the original diagnosis and then the expert weighed in on the rib stuff that it's a bruise.
01:16:07But there's edema around there that they wanted to get different looks and different, more specific
01:16:12images.
01:16:12So, he went in for a CT and x-ray today and we're waiting to get those read.
01:16:17So, I do expect us to know something definitive by today and even immediately, but nothing as of now.
01:16:25And Giancarlo took BP yesterday out here.
01:16:29What's his status?
01:16:29He had live here yesterday with Jason Dominguez.
01:16:32Jason Dominguez will start a rehab assignment tomorrow.
01:16:35Okay.
01:16:35And then Stan's going to hit again Saturday and then he'll ramp up with all his running, which he's been
01:16:41running now about four or five days.
01:16:42He'll do that all next week and then hopefully be in play.
01:16:45All right, let's talk about the good stuff then.
01:16:48Okay.
01:16:48Look at your t-shirt.
01:16:50Oh, 22.
01:16:51Come on, man.
01:16:52You couldn't expect.
01:16:53You, you, you, ow, I just burned myself.
01:16:56You're the one guy that when I've talked to, like, behind the scenes, you've been on him for a while.
01:17:01I don't think to expect what he's doing now by the masses, but you, I don't think you're taken aback
01:17:08by this production.
01:17:10No, I'm not taking aback.
01:17:11Every aback.
01:17:12Yeah, I got my first taste of him in spring training of 24, and it was like, oh, okay.
01:17:19And then he came up in 24 and had some success, had some struggles, but you kind of saw it.
01:17:24Last year he puts together a really great season, hitting into famously some tough luck, too, even though still had
01:17:31a great year.
01:17:32And then this year it's gone to even another level where I think he's putting himself in with, in that
01:17:38class of one of the best hitters in the league.
01:17:40Yeah.
01:17:41I'm so curious, Aaron, when you go into a new season, how many of the thoughts from the old season
01:17:46carry over?
01:17:46Are there new things you think about every time you come to the yard, first day of the season up
01:17:52until, what, a couple months in?
01:17:53What's on your mind this year as opposed to, and how is it different as opposed to a couple years
01:17:57ago?
01:17:57Well, it changes day to day, week to week, month to month.
01:18:00So, you know, obviously right now, you know, Aaron's health is obviously front of mind and getting that diagnosis and
01:18:08what are we dealing with.
01:18:09Getting a couple guys back in the mix.
01:18:12Obviously Garrett being back now, Carlos Rodon being back, you know, Max has been doing well in his couple of
01:18:19weeks down.
01:18:20So, you're thinking about all those kind of things and trying to, like, find the most complete team.
01:18:27And you get, you got a lot of guys that are playing well.
01:18:29You got always, you have some guys that are struggling.
01:18:32You want to get them unlocked.
01:18:33So, you're having conversations with coaches like, you know, how do we get this guy going and moving?
01:18:38So, it's a gauntlet.
01:18:41You know, we play 162 for a reason.
01:18:43It weeds out a lot of the pretending.
01:18:46And, you know, the one thing is we're a couple months in.
01:18:49We've had a tough series here where hopefully we can salvage a game.
01:18:52But I feel like we have a chance to be a really outstanding team.
01:18:57But that's all.
01:18:58That's the point.
01:18:59We're two months in.
01:19:00We're two-fifths of the way in.
01:19:01And it's like we have a chance.
01:19:03And we'll see.
01:19:05What's your feelings on ABS so far?
01:19:07I like it.
01:19:08I love it.
01:19:10But I hate it when I watch you guys.
01:19:13Yeah.
01:19:13Because you don't get chucked anymore.
01:19:15Well, that's not true.
01:19:17That's not true.
01:19:17But not as much.
01:19:19I'm on pace for my normal six or whatever.
01:19:22But I'm hoping to not get there.
01:19:24Don't disrespect him.
01:19:25I went into it and I was vocal with the league like I didn't want it.
01:19:29Because I feel like the umpires keep getting better and better and better.
01:19:32Yeah.
01:19:32And so I don't love it every night.
01:19:36But I think overall, I think it's been a good thing.
01:19:39And I think it's continued to make umpires even better and better.
01:19:44So overall, I think it's been a good thing.
01:19:46I sat next to Hunter Wendelstadt, one of the umpires, not too long ago on a plane flight.
01:19:50And I told him, I said, I was at that game against the A's when he chucked you.
01:19:54And it was a guy in the stands.
01:19:56I was sitting right by him.
01:19:58So every time we have Hunter now, I yell from the dugout.
01:20:01I'm like, Hunter, this is my voice right here.
01:20:05I kind of have a laugh now.
01:20:07Is the new watch for every starter a thing?
01:20:09Is that this year?
01:20:11No, I've been doing that the last couple of years.
01:20:13Okay.
01:20:13Is it indicative of the personality?
01:20:16Like, is there?
01:20:16Yeah.
01:20:17Like, it's tape.
01:20:18It's basically one of Dero's tapes.
01:20:20Uh-huh.
01:20:20What's that?
01:20:21So, like, Garrett Cole gets what watch?
01:20:23Garrett gets the...
01:20:24Gets the rollie.
01:20:25Gets the rollie.
01:20:26The big dog.
01:20:26No, it's all Orises.
01:20:30But he's had one.
01:20:31So it's been nice to dust that one back off and put it on again.
01:20:35Sometimes I change with guys year to year, depending on what I'm feeling for them.
01:20:41But it's something that it's just kind of fun.
01:20:43I have fun with.
01:20:44And I think some of them know and some of them have no idea.
01:20:49Do we want to do the Who Can It Be Now?
01:20:52Absolutely.
01:20:52He texts me all the time when we do Who Can It Be Now?
01:20:55He says he's the best at it.
01:20:57If I hesitate, he's like, I had it.
01:20:59Okay.
01:20:59Let's see.
01:21:00Now, it is a little tough to see dealing with the shadows.
01:21:03We got glare issues.
01:21:04Let's see what we got.
01:21:05We will overcome.
01:21:06All right.
01:21:07Here it comes.
01:21:07Here it comes.
01:21:08Can you guess the batting stance?
01:21:10Aaron Boone.
01:21:11Who can it be now?
01:21:13Aaron Boone trying to manage the shadows.
01:21:16Is there a category?
01:21:19Now, again.
01:21:20Oh, Kenny Lofton.
01:21:21Oh, Kenny Lofton is the ace.
01:21:24He's got it.
01:21:24That is the correct answer.
01:21:26He's good.
01:21:27Yeah.
01:21:27You ever see him do everybody's batting?
01:21:29Is that a fight?
01:21:29Did he throw a fight in Phillies at me with Kenny Lofton?
01:21:32I couldn't even tell you he played for the Phillies.
01:21:35But you're new to swing.
01:21:36Yeah.
01:21:37Okay.
01:21:38Next one.
01:21:39Coming up.
01:21:41One more.
01:21:43Aaron Boone.
01:21:44Yankees manager.
01:21:48Ooh.
01:21:49This is tough.
01:21:50This looks like some older video.
01:21:52Do I have that right or no?
01:21:56I don't know.
01:21:58Former Yankee.
01:21:59Former Guardian.
01:22:01God.
01:22:02Great defensive player.
01:22:05Really good defender.
01:22:06Really good.
01:22:07The third base.
01:22:08Rhymes with Rio.
01:22:11Gio.
01:22:11Gio Urshela.
01:22:14Yeah.
01:22:14There we go.
01:22:15You loved him.
01:22:16Oh, he's great.
01:22:17He could pick it.
01:22:18One more.
01:22:18One more before we get you out of here.
01:22:22Yankee skipper Aaron Boone.
01:22:24Who can it be?
01:22:25Gio hit a bomb grand slam in the 2020 against the Guardians.
01:22:30The playoffs.
01:22:32Okay.
01:22:32Last one.
01:22:34Having to deal with the shadows.
01:22:35So that's why he's pairing in like a pitcher trying to get the signs.
01:22:41Incarnacion.
01:22:41Yeah.
01:22:42I think you're right.
01:22:44Is it?
01:22:44Yes.
01:22:45And by Encarnacion.
01:22:46That is correct.
01:22:46That's impressive, Aaron.
01:22:48No, he's good.
01:22:49We get him in studio.
01:22:50It's on.
01:22:51Yeah.
01:22:51We'll do it for real.
01:22:52Yeah.
01:22:52When are you going to come in studio?
01:22:55Never.
01:22:55You have my number.
01:22:56Wait, we got one more?
01:22:57Oh, one more?
01:22:58One more.
01:22:59Broyd says we got one more.
01:23:00One more.
01:23:01One more.
01:23:02I bet you it's got to be who I think it is.
01:23:05Let's see.
01:23:08Oh, this is tough.
01:23:11I can't even.
01:23:12Jork Boone.
01:23:14There we go.
01:23:18You could pixelate that as much as you want.
01:23:21Everyone in the world knows that's Brett Boone.
01:23:23That's it.
01:23:25That's great.
01:23:26Yep.
01:23:27The pods.
01:23:28What did you have for breakfast?
01:23:32Oatmeal, bacon, avocado, and some blueberries.
01:23:37Look at that.
01:23:38Do you know oatmeal is a scam?
01:23:39It's not a scam.
01:23:40It actually spikes your blood sugar.
01:23:42If eaten in moderation and you've got exercise and he's okay.
01:23:48I was a big oatmeal guy.
01:23:49Fiber.
01:23:50Until I wasn't.
01:23:51Fiber.
01:23:53Speaking of fiber, there was an issue with the toilet in there.
01:23:57I didn't do it.
01:23:58Speaking of Yankee Stadium, we walked in here.
01:24:01You're the manager of the New York Yankees.
01:24:02There was a roach.
01:24:03Can you change that?
01:24:04We're trying to develop some grit around here.
01:24:07We are.
01:24:08Get some dirt.
01:24:09Let's go.
01:24:10Aaron, thank you very much for the time, man.
01:24:13Good to see you guys.
01:24:13We appreciate it.
01:24:13Good to see you.
01:24:14Good luck today.
01:24:15Good luck the rest of the way.
01:24:16Thank you.
01:24:16That's Yankees manager Aaron Boone.
01:24:18In your free time, some raid.
01:24:19Getting ready to take on the Cleveland Guardians.
01:24:21It's a game many of you will see right here on the network.
01:24:24That's going to do it for us.
01:24:26We'll be back tomorrow.
01:24:27Dero's going to be doing the.
01:24:29I'm home cam.
01:24:29Yeah, home cam.
01:24:30I got a big 16U travel game at 520 tomorrow.
01:24:33Lauren's going to be by herself.
01:24:35My voice is going south.
01:24:37The streak is coming to an end tomorrow.
01:24:38See you later.
01:24:39Have a wonderful day.
01:24:40Thanks so much for joining us.
01:24:42Have a great Thursday.
