00:54Ladies and Gentlemen.
00:55A very good morning and welcome to the Energy Transition Conference 2026.
01:01It is a pleasure indeed to welcome all of you to the second day of this event,
01:07to continue exploring the complexities of the energy transition
01:11and the pathways towards a more resilient, intelligent, and sustainable power system.
01:17It is my honour to extend a warm welcome to our guest of honour,
01:24Honourable Datuk Sri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia.
01:28Your valuable presence today sends a strong signal of Malaysia's commitment
01:33to advancing a future-ready energy system
01:36and underscores the importance of close collaboration across government and industry
01:43as we navigate this transition together.
01:46At our inaugural energy transition conference in 2023,
01:50we witnessed the signing of 12 memoranda of understanding between multiple partners
01:55and saw close to 700 business matching sessions.
01:59These exchanges covering solar solutions, decarbonisation technologies, and energy literacy
02:07have since progressed into tangible initiatives that support
02:11Malaysia's national energy transition roadmap, NTR.
02:15Yesterday, we witnessed the exchange of agreements for two landmark solar initiatives
02:21to further strengthen Malaysia's clean energy ambition,
02:25the 785-megawatt peak hybrid hydro-floating solar project,
02:32which is said to be the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia,
02:36and the 750-megawatt peak ground-mounted solar project.
02:41These projects demonstrate the realisation of the previous MOUs
02:46to support the nation's aspiration of achieving 70% renewable energy capacity
02:52by 2050 or earlier,
02:55whilst ensuring a secure and reliable energy supply for future growth.
03:00Ladies and gentlemen,
03:02at Tenaga National Berhad,
03:04energy transition is a long-term strategic priority.
03:08Initially conceptualised in 2016,
03:13we launched the Reimagining TNB,
03:15a 10-year strategic plan
03:17to help us become a leading global legacy utility.
03:22In 2023,
03:24this was renewed as Reimagining TNB 2.0,
03:28taking into account TNB's role
03:30designated following the pronouncement of the NETR.
03:33Our own energy transition plan focuses on critical enablers
03:38that can help us shift from a fossil-based energy mix
03:42to greener energy sources.
03:44Last year, TNB delivered 4.3 gigawatt of installed renewable energy capacity,
03:51contributing more than a third to the country's total renewable energy capacity.
03:57Additionally, we are indeed grateful to the Government of Malaysia
04:00and the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation
04:03for having agreed to a commitment of RM43 billion,
04:07or roughly US$10 billion,
04:10under a regulatory period or towards modernising international grid.
04:14This monumental investment is aimed at upgrading infrastructure,
04:20accelerating the country's transition to clean energy systems,
04:25including connection facilities to support the growing demand of energy centres.
04:31Beyond our domestic efforts,
04:34TNB remains actively engaged in supporting regional interconnectivity initiatives
04:40under the ASEAN Power Grid.
04:42Earlier this year, the Laos-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore Power Integration Project
04:48successfully doubled its energy trading capacity from 100 MW to 200 MW,
04:54marking another important milestone in cross-border electricity trade.
04:58We are also actively participating in ongoing efforts to expand regional connectivity
05:06through initiatives such as the Vietnam-Malaysia-Singapore interconnection
05:10and the proposed Second Malaysia-Singapore Link,
05:13alongside the Sarawak-Peninsular-Malaysia interconnection.
05:17As I wish guests, we have made notable achievements in regard to the Malaysia Energy Literacy Programme,
05:24launched in 2023.
05:26It has now become a national agenda and an integral learning module for university students.
05:32Meanwhile, the continued expansion of TNB subsidiary G-SPARX solar solutions recorded 224 MW of installed capacity,
05:43which alongside other solar PV solution providers reflect the growing acceptance and adoption of solar rooftop,
05:52mainly on domestic premises.
05:54This evolution is transcending across all levels of society,
05:59from large industrial installations, medium-sized commercial premises to ordinary domestic customers.
06:06Another interesting development is the rising adoption of electric vehicles in Malaysia.
06:13To support this transition, TNB has streamlined the deployment of EV charging infrastructure through initiatives such as the EV Green
06:24Lane,
06:24enabling faster electricity supply connections for charging stations
06:29and helping to accelerate the development of a nationwide EV ecosystem.
06:34TNB to date has installed 264 EV charge points nationwide,
06:41further providing convenience and reducing range anxiety amongst EV users.
06:48These are just some of the illustrations to show how much progress we have made since ET Conference 2023.
06:56This year, ET Conference 2026 provides an opportunity for all of us to come together once again.
07:04As we continue with today's program, I encourage all of you to build connections that extend well beyond these few
07:11days
07:12and to further translate our shared ambitions into tangible, scalable impact.
07:18Today, the fundamentals influencing energy supply and demand as well as global supply chains are increasingly shaped by geopolitical events,
07:29particularly evident from the current development in the Middle East.
07:33Against this backdrop, the challenge before us is clear.
07:37To meet rising energy demand whilst ensuring our energy system remains secure, reliable, affordable and yet able to proceed on
07:48our journey towards a low-carbon future.
07:51Let me close by expressing my sincere appreciation to the Government of Malaysia for its steadfast policy formulation and leadership
07:59in driving progress across the energy sector.
08:02And finally, it is also a privilege to welcome the Honourable Dato Sri Anwar Brahim Prime Minister of Malaysia to
08:09officially officiate this year's Energy Transition Conference
08:12and we look forward to his keynote address coming up soon.
08:17Thank you. I wish all of you a productive and engaging conference.
08:22Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
08:27Thank you, Tan Sri Abul Razah bin Abul Majid, Chairman of Tanaka National Brahat, for setting the stage for ETHCon
08:3226 moving forward.
08:34And thank you to TNB for leadership in convening this platform for dialogue and collaboration.
08:42Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, we shall be moving along shortly.
08:46And please do understand the year-mark theme of this year's event, Energy and AI, the Synergy for Energy Transition,
08:53is at the hallmark of everything we do throughout ETCon 2026.
08:58As ETCon continues to explore the synergy between energy and AI, it is only fitting that we now hear from
09:06the leader shaping Malaysia's future.
09:08Please join us in welcoming the Honourable Dato Sri Anwar bin Ibrahim, Prime Minister, for his special keynote address and
09:16the official launch of ETCon 2026.

14:39saya
14:41terima kasih.
14:42saya
14:42mulai
14:42berbicara
14:43terima kasih
14:44Thanks and gratitude to TNB for displaying that capacity Malaysians can perform reasonably well
14:53because they remain focused to some core policies and core values.
15:02And now let me share some of my concerns, particularly at these challenging times.
15:13Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen, we meet at the time when the world is in the grip of escalating energy crisis.
15:25So the theme should be energy crisis.
15:29But you are more optimistic and I share that view.
15:35You don't get bogged down by these pessimistic views.
15:40But looking forward, the challenge of course, energy and AI.
15:48Now, stemming from the streets of Hormuz, the epicenter is nowhere near here.
15:56But its tremors rumble across the entire region, straining the supply lines that feed industries and power homes.
16:07And triggering energy emergencies in ASEAN, neighboring countries, and in fact, the ramifications throughout the world.
16:19It is a stark reminder that our world is intrinsically interconnected.
16:26And in the face of global geopolitical uncertainty, we are all equally exposed to external vulnerabilities.
16:35This crisis compels us to confront the reality that fossil fuels, which has powered our civilizations since the industrial age,
16:46is not just finite, but may be less secure and reliable than we once assumed.
16:55Compounding this problem is the fact that our regions are projected to witness an increase in energy demand by more
17:04than 60% by 2040.
17:07No thanks, indeed, to further urbanization and industrialization.
17:14The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence is likely to accelerate this trajectory further,
17:21with data centers and advanced computing infrastructures requiring unprecedented levels of electricity.
17:29In fact, I remember three years ago, when I initially looked at the projections,
17:36I said to TNB and the ministry that we have to review this.
17:42Because the focus in this region, and particularly in Malaysia, the mushrooming of Modestat centers,
17:49and the interest in AI and semiconductors would demand more water, more energy.
17:56That's why I made a particular reference to the capacity of TNB leadership for responding to this demand and insistence
18:12fast enough.
18:13That shows the resilience, capacity, and again, I reiterate my profound thanks to the leadership of TNB and the staff.
18:27Now, as countries race to build digital economies and harness AI-driven growth,
18:33the challenge before us is not only to generate more energy, but to ensure that it remains secure, affordable, and
18:43sustainable.
18:44I emphasize the word affordable because whatever impressive results when submitted to me,
18:56I would also say thank you, I would also say thank you, but I will look at the price to
19:04be paid by the consumers.
19:06What is it to the common man and woman?
19:10How do they fare in this more sophisticated new technology and AI transition?
19:20So, that is again, I think I remember addressing staff of TNB.
19:28I said, we are, of course, impressed with the performance, but we would be failing in our duty.
19:35We wouldn't make sure that the success is shared not only by the common staff at all levels,
19:45but more so to the consumers, particularly the poor and the marginalized.
19:52Now, back to the ASEAN power grid, which is a remarkable feat in terms of collaboration of the ASEAN countries,
20:01strong neighbors, clear commitment.
20:06And thank you for the support of these countries that we are able to embark this and fast-track the
20:15implementation of the ASEAN national grid.
20:18Deepening regional integration is not just aspirational, it is essential.
20:28I am also pleased to share that the recent ASEAN summit at Cebu, the Philippines,
20:35we did agree on the operationalization of the ASEAN power grid.
20:45And again, you are entrusted to ensure that we fast-track the entire project.
20:52Encouragingly, we are not starting from scratch.
20:57Since 2022, renewable hydropower generated in Laopdr has been transmitted through Thailand and Malaysia into Singapore,
21:07establishing Southeast Asia's first multilateral cross-border electricity trade.
21:15This pioneering initiative has demonstrated not only the technical feasibility of regional energy integration,
21:25but also ASEAN's ability to translate shared ambition into tangible cooperation.
21:34Yet such progress also compels us to confront a broader question.
21:38How do we accelerate the transition as countries, economies, and societies towards cleaner and more sustainable source of energy
21:51while ensuring resilience, affordability, and security?
21:58Answering this would require not only technological innovation, but also difficult choices in policy, investment, and regional cooperation.
22:10This year's Energy Transition Conference takes place at this critical, critical juncture, which I alluded to earlier.
22:20Our energy systems are being reshaped by geopolitical and technological imperatives,
22:26with one affecting supply while the other increasing demand.
22:33Similarly, this year's theme, energy and AI, the synergy for energy transition, is fitting for the moment we are in,
22:43where the confluence of energy and digital intelligence is redefining our world and our economies.
22:54Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming economies, industries, and societies.
23:00But this transformation comes with significant energy implications.
23:07And I would add values, which means the challenge for these experts, the technocrats, and AI expertise that you have,
23:23one also view the issue of affordability, connectivity, and values,
23:35which has been discussed, deliberated, but sometimes we tend to ignore this.
23:41This should be discussed by researchers at universities.
23:44I do not share that view.
23:47Anyone supporting to engage in new technology, including AI, must look at the, of course, the requirement in terms of
24:04its technological advancement,
24:09but at the same time, but also look at the implications, the impact on what we term here as the
24:19Madani framework,
24:21which stresses on the importance of humanity and values.
24:25My colleagues, ministers are here, who, of course, appreciate the point I've raised,
24:31because that has been the central pillar in our policy framework.
24:38Now, but AI positively viewed represents opportunities to accelerate energy transition efforts.
24:49Now, from improving grid efficiency, to forecasting renewable energy generation, to optimizing industrial energy use,
24:59AI has the potential to strengthen energy systems.
25:02The challenge, however, again, lies in ensuring that growth of AI does not outspace the sustainability ambitions it is also
25:13expected to support.
25:14In the case of Malaysia, due to our strategic location and competitive investment environment,
25:21we have emerged as a key destination in this global digital infrastructure race.
25:26We continue to attract major data centers investments, particularly in Johor, Plung Valley, and now to Sarawak.
25:34Now, this raises the stakes.
25:36But in this regard, I have full confidence in TNB's ability to guide our energy transition
25:44and to deliver on the promises of AI and energy.
25:49We will deliver our promise to the rakyat that our transition will be just,
25:55our energy will be secure,
25:58and that AI will serve these nations and our values.
26:03That is, and must continue to be, the measure of this work.
26:10In conclusion, again,
26:13I reiterate my appreciation to TNB
26:17for once again convening the Energy Transition Conference
26:21to foster discussions, deliberations,
26:25and critical dialogue on the energy transition agenda.
26:29Terima kasih.
