00:00Speaking on the TV6 Morning Edition, President of the Association of Maxi Taxis TT, Ian Hewitt, says he warned months
00:09ago that continued inaction would lead to nationwide disruption if the Transport Minister did not act.
00:16I am surprised that I am hearing people in circles saying that this shocked them. I don't understand how this
00:25could shock only when I tell the government to tell that man to come down from there and come down
00:31here. The man is a waste of time to us. He's a waste of time. And I tell you flathead,
00:39he don't speak to me.
00:40Hewitt stresses, despite repeated submissions of video evidence and reports to the Minister of Transport outlining the challenges facing operators,
00:50the Minister refuses to communicate with Mr Hewitt and prefers to liaise with other persons. He is now urging the
00:57Prime Minister to personally intervene to resolve the impasse.
01:01Madam Prime Minister, if you didn't hear what I said last time, I'm just more or less rehashing. And nobody
01:08took it upon themselves in the government to pull up this man's socks. And this is the result. This is
01:15the result.
01:16Meanwhile, Brenton Knights of the Route 2 Red Band Maxi Taxi Drivers Association says operators are prepared to maintain the
01:24shutdown for as long as it takes.
01:26The membership gave us the mandate and the mandate was coming from the membership of three days. Three days. And
01:33if we don't get anything substantial in writing, we'll all hell break loose. And we are willing to carry it
01:39for three days, every month, every week going forward.
