00:00The NPTA head says students currently sitting the CXC examinations are being
00:06placed at a disadvantage due to the disruption in maxi-taxi services.
00:11It is an important day for them and we should not want anything at all to stand
00:15in the way especially because this is a regional exam as well so there's the
00:19element of inequity. Other students in the Caribbean countries, islands, are fast-paced.
00:25They are going ahead with the examinations unfettered, undisturbed. No circumstances
00:29are told to affect them but yet we here in Philan and Tobago, by virtue of what is
00:32taking place with the maxi-taxi operators, we are faced with this inequity.
00:36Walter Stewart is urging government to intervene and communicate with the CXC
00:42board if necessary. We are really appealing to the registrar, local registrar and the
00:47Ministry of Education to intervene if they are mitigating circumstances wherein
00:51students cannot get to their centres on time or at all today, Tuesday, Wednesday if this persists.
00:58Stewart adds that the maxi-taxi challenge is not new but is a recurring issue across successive
01:06administrations and he hopes that the current government will take decisive action to bring
01:11lasting stability to the sector.
01:13But we are hoping that because the UNC is in power, because the government is in power at this time,
01:19they will take the bull by their horns, deal with the situation decisively and swiftly and bring about
01:25some sustainable resolution to what is taking place. We cannot continue with this.
