Transcript
00:00Speaking on the TV6 Morning Edition, President of the Association of MaxiTaxis TT
00:06and Chairman of the Route 1 Yellow Band MaxiTaxi Drivers Association, Ian Hewitt,
00:12reiterates that drivers' frustration with the Transport Minister is not about the government.
00:20He adds that they believe the Transport Minister looks down on MaxiTaxi operators.
00:26If I tell you some things that come out in that meeting, I want to meet the Prime Minister.
00:30But this is an open, open, open, asking openly, Madam Prime Minister.
00:41Hewitt says while the Prime Minister encouraged drivers to work with the Minister,
00:47operators remain concerned over what they describe as the Minister's refusal to commit to meaningful solutions.
00:53I am saying now, once that man stays there, I am saying it again, Madam Prime Minister.
01:02None, none out of the routes.
01:05And we show about that now after we came out of the meeting.
01:08Trust him, believe in him, not one.
01:12It is even worse.
01:14Meanwhile, President of the Route 2 MaxiTaxi Drivers Association, Brenton Knights, says drivers continue to face mounting challenges
01:24with outdated systems tied to transfer rights, licensing and appointments.
01:30We still operate on our regulation system in terms of the regulations on a temporary basis.
01:37But, but, the government of the day saw it fit to go in December and modernize the fees and double
01:46it to a modernized rate for them.
01:49What happened to the regulations?
01:50What happened to the governance system or the administrative part of that regulation that regulates us?
01:56Knights adds that drivers have already presented practical solutions,
02:00but their recommendations continue to fall on deaf ears.
02:04We just submit our documents with corrective solutions.
02:09We don't just say, hey, this is a problem.
02:11Only figure it out.
02:13We just give corrective measures that you could implement.
02:16Even on the main road, we make recommendations for you to build a bridge by Takarikoa behind the home there
02:21so that all the traffic wouldn't be bottlenecking down by by Eddie Harb there.
02:25Yeah.
02:25We head to the highway.
02:26Nicole M. Romany, TV6 News.
