Transcript
00:14In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Peace be with you.
00:21Today is the feast of Saint Justin the martyr. He was a martyr of the early church, a philosopher,
00:29a thinker, who saw God's grace reaching everywhere and how Christ fulfills the aspirations of humanity.
00:38But Christ fulfills our aspirations as we have put ourselves before him. We acknowledge our sins.
00:45We acknowledge the need for forgiveness and healing. Loving God, you forgive our sins. Lord, have mercy.
00:53You turn to good everything for those who love you. Christ, have mercy.
00:57You call us away from confusion into love. Lord, have mercy.
01:02May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and lead us into healing and life everlasting.
01:11Let us pray.
01:14O God, who through the folly of the cross wondrously taught Saint Justin the martyr the surpassing knowledge of Jesus
01:23Christ,
01:24grant us through his intercession that, having rejected deception and error, we may become steadfast in the faith.
01:31Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
01:37God, forever and ever. Amen.
01:43A reading from the first letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians.
01:48The language of the cross may be illogical to those who are not on the way to salvation.
01:55But those of us who are on this on the way see it as God's power to save.
02:02As scripture says, I shall destroy the wisdom of the wise and bring to nothing all the learnings of the
02:10learned.
02:11Where are the philosophers now? Where are the scribes? Where are any of our thinkers today?
02:20Do you see now how God has shown up the foolishness of human wisdom?
02:27If it was God's wisdom that human wisdom should not know God,
02:32it was because God wanted to save those who have faith through the foolishness of the message that we preach.
02:40And so, while the foolishness of the message, while the Jews demand miracles and the Greeks look for wisdom,
02:50here are we preaching a crucified Christ.
02:53To the Jews, an obstacle that they cannot get over.
02:57To the pagans, madness.
03:00But to those who have been called, whether they are Jews or Greeks,
03:05a Christ who is the power and the wisdom of God.
03:08For God's foolishness is wiser than human wisdom.
03:13And God's weakness is stronger than human strength.
03:19The word of the Lord.
03:22Thanks be to God.
03:23The Lord set me free from all my fears.
03:27The Lord set me free from all my fears.
03:31I will bless the Lord at all times.
03:33His praise always on my lips.
03:37In the Lord my soul shall make its boast.
03:39The humble shall hear and be glad.
03:43The Lord set me free from all my fears.
03:47Glorify the Lord with me.
03:49Together let us praise his name.
03:52I sought the Lord and he answered me.
03:54From all my terrors he set me free.
03:57The Lord set me free from all my fears.
04:02Look towards him and be radiant.
04:04Let your faces not be abashed.
04:07The poor man called.
04:09The Lord heard him and rescued him from all his distress.
04:13The Lord set me free from all my fears.
04:17The angel of the Lord is encamped around those who revere him.
04:22To rescue them.
04:24Taste and see the Lord is good.
04:26He is happy who seeks refuge in him.
04:29The Lord set me free from all my fears.
04:34Hallelujah.
04:35Hallelujah.
04:36Let your light shine before all.
04:38That they may see your good works and glorify your Father.
04:42Your Father.
04:43Hallelujah.
04:46The Lord be with you.
04:48A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.
04:52Glory to you, O Lord.
04:55Jesus said to his disciples.
04:58You are the salt of the earth.
05:00But if salt becomes tasteless, what can make it salty again?
05:05It is good for nothing and can only be thrown out to be trampled underfoot by people.
05:10You are the light of the world.
05:12A city built on a hilltop cannot be hidden.
05:15No one lights a lamp to put it under a tub.
05:18They put it on the lampstand where it shines for everyone in the house.
05:23In the same way, your light must shine in the sight of all.
05:27So that, seeing your good works, they may give the praise to your Father in heaven.
05:34Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets.
05:39I have come not to abolish but to accomplish them.
05:43I tell you solemnly, till heaven and earth disappear, not one dot, not one little stroke, shall disappear from the
05:53law until its purpose is achieved.
05:56Therefore, the one who infringes even one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same
06:04will be considered the least in the kingdom of heaven.
06:07But the one who keeps them and teaches them will be considered great in the kingdom of heaven.
06:15The Gospel of the Lord.
06:18Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
06:24St. Justin saw God connecting with people, all peoples, but how Jesus fulfills everything.
06:36He was a philosopher, a learned man, a layman, not an ordained man, a convert to Christianity in the early
06:45days of the church.
06:47And he really proclaimed Christianity and made apologia for Christianity.
06:51That means the rationale and how it really made sense.
06:57Eventually, he himself died under the persecution of Marcus Aurelius in Rome.
07:03He was beheaded as a martyr rather than denying his faith.
07:07So, in the Feast of a Martyr, we are reminded ourselves, especially this time with St. Justin, how we keep
07:15being open to seeing all forms of knowledge that are true, being fulfilled in Christ, or seeking being fulfilled in
07:24Christ.
07:25That our faith is not illogical.
07:28It means sometimes we cannot fully understand, but it does make sense.
07:34It makes sense when we open our hearts and eyes and let God convert us and let God speak the
07:40truth in our heart.
08:09Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation.
08:11For to your goodness we have this bread to offer, which earth has given human hands have made.
08:17It will become for us the bread of life.
08:19Blessed be God forever.
08:41Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation.
08:44For to your goodness we have this wine to offer, fruit of divine work of human hands.
08:49It will become our spiritual dream.
08:52Blessed be God forever.
09:01Let us pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God our Almighty Father.
09:09May the Lord accept the sacrifice at our hands for the praise and glory of God's name for our good
09:16and the good of God's Holy Church.
09:19Grant us, we pray, O Lord, that we may celebrate worthily these mysteries which St. Justin sternously defended through Christ
09:28our Lord. Amen.
09:36The Lord be with you.
09:40Lift up your hearts.
09:42Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
09:46It is right and just.
09:47It is truly right and just our duty and our salvation.
09:51Always and everywhere to give you thanks.
09:54Lord, Holy Father, almighty and eternal God.
09:57For you are glorified when your saints are praised.
10:00Their very sufferings are but wonders of your might.
10:04In your mercy you give ardour to their faith.
10:08In their endurance you grant firm results.
10:12And in their struggle the victory is yours.
10:15Through Christ our Lord.
10:16Therefore all creatures of heaven and earth sing a new song in adoration.
10:23And we with all the hosts of angels cry out and without end we acclaim.
10:29Holy, holy, holy Lord God of hosts.
10:33Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
10:36Hosanna in the highest.
10:38Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
10:42Hosanna in the highest.
10:48You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.
10:52Make holy therefore these gifts we pray.
10:54By sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall.
10:58So they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
11:03At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion.
11:08He took bread.
11:10And giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying.
11:15Take this all of you and drink from it.
11:27In a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice.
11:31And once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying.
11:36Take this all of you and drink from it.
11:39For this is the chalice of my blood.
11:42The blood of the new and eternal covenant.
11:45Which will be pulled out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
11:51Do this in memory of me.
12:00The mystery of faith.
12:02We proclaim your death, O Lord, and profess your resurrection.
12:07Until you come again.
12:13Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection.
12:17We offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation.
12:21Giving thanks that you've held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you.
12:27Humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of Christ.
12:31We may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
12:35Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity.
12:40Together with Leo, our Pope, meet your unworthy servant and all the clergy.
12:46Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection.
12:52And all who have died in your mercy.
12:54Welcome them into the light of your face.
12:58Have mercy on us all, we pray.
13:00That with the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God.
13:04Blessed Joseph, her husband.
13:05With the blessed Apostles, Saint Justin.
13:09And all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages.
13:12We may, through your grace, merit to be coerced to eternal life.
13:17And may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.
13:25Through him and with him and in him, O God Almighty, Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
13:31all glory and honour is yours for ever and ever.
13:34Amen.
13:37In the Saviour's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say,
13:41Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
13:45Thy kingdom come.
13:46Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
13:49Give us this day our daily bread.
13:51And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
13:57And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
14:02Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil.
14:05Graciously grant peace in our days, that by the help of your mercy,
14:09we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress,
14:13as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
14:18For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and forever.
14:24Lord Jesus Christ, we said to your Apostles,
14:26Peace I leave you, my peace I give you.
14:29Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church.
14:33And graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will,
14:37who live and reign forever and ever.
14:40The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.
14:44Let us offer each other a sign of peace.
14:47Peace be with you all.
14:49Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world.
14:53Have mercy on us.
14:55Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world.
14:59Have mercy on us.
15:01Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world.
15:05Grant us peace.
15:21Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world.
15:24Happy are those who are called to the Supper of the Lamb.
15:28Lord, I am not worthy, you should enter under my roof.
15:31But only say the word, and my soul shall be healed.
15:36My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most blessed sacrament.
15:41I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul.
15:46Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,
15:49come at least spiritually into my heart.
15:51I embrace you as if you were already there, and unite myself wholly to you.
15:57Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.
16:01Let us pray.
16:04Refreshed by heavenly food, we humbly implore you, O Lord,
16:09that attentive to the teaching of Saint Justin the Martyr,
16:12we may abide at all times in thanksgiving for the gifts we have received.
16:17Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
16:19The Lord be with you.
16:22May the peace and the blessing of the Father and of the Son
16:25and of the Holy Spirit come upon you and remain always with you.
16:28Let us go and proclaim the Gospel by our lives.
16:32Thanks be to God, and God bless your day.
