00:00Hey, Shalom brothers and sisters. Today I want to talk about the Old Testament. I want to talk about the
00:07Avenger of Blood and the Slayer.
00:11Now the Old Testament, starting with Moses, said anybody who ignorantly killed a family member, a loved one or anything,
00:22was in trouble because the Avenger of Blood had a right to go after him and kill him as long
00:29as he wasn't in the city of refuge.
00:34Sanctuary is what you'd call it. Sanctuary.
00:38But the perpetrator, the person committed this, we call it today manslaughter, would flee to one of these cities.
00:48And if he wasn't caught, he was protected.
00:52But if the family caught up with him, they had a perfect right to kill him, to get, you know,
00:59blood atonement for the loved one they lost.
01:03So we'll go to start out with Deuteronomy.
01:07But before I do, you can go to the Book of Numbers, chapter 35, 11 through 28.
01:14You can go there and check because it basically says the same thing in there as Deuteronomy.
01:20And then Joshua has some comments on it, too.
01:25I'm going to start out with chapter 4.
01:31Chapter 4.
01:35Deuteronomy 4, and that's 41 through 42.
01:41Then Moses severed three cities on the side of Jordan towards the sun rising, that the slayer might flee thereof,
01:50which should kill his neighbor unaware and hated him not in times of past, and that fleeing unto one of
01:58these cities he might live.
02:00So as long as he made it to that city, he was safe for the time being.
02:06But once he stepped foot off of it, you know, he was open, open and fair game.
02:12Now, we'll go to 19.
02:14Let's skip over to 19 here.
02:2119, 1 through 6.
02:24City of Refuge.
02:26When Yahweh the Elohim hath cut off the nations whose land, Yahweh thy Elohim hath giveth thee, and thou succeedest
02:34them, and dwellest in their cities, and there in their houses, thou shalt separate three cities for thee in the
02:41midst of thy land, which Yahweh thy Elohim giveth thee to possess it.
02:47Thou shalt prepare thee a way, and divide the coast and the land, which Yahweh the Elohim giveth thee to
02:54inherit.
02:55And to three parts, that every slayer might flee thereof.
03:00And this is the case of the slayer, which shall flee thereof, that he might live, whosoever killeth his neighbor
03:09ignorantly, whom he hated, not in just time past.
03:14And when a man goeth into the wood with his neighbor to hew wood, and his hand fetched a stroke
03:21with an axe to cut down a tree, and the head slippeth from the hell, and lighteth upon his neighbor,
03:28that he die, he shall flee unto one of those cities, and live.
03:34Lest the avenger of blood pursue the slayer while his heart is hot, and overtake him because of the way
03:40is long, and slay him, whereas he is not worthy of death, and so much as he hated him not
03:48in time past.
03:51So, that's, uh, the rules there, and if you also go to the book of Joshua, it says about the
03:58same thing, cities of refuge, and things like that.
04:01You could, you could visit, uh, Joshua chapter 20, verses, uh, 5 and 6, and then, uh, book, uh, chapter
04:111 of Joshua, if you want to get a clearer view of, you know, what was, what was going on,
04:18you know, the rules, stipulations, and everything about, you know, hunting down this, uh, killer.
04:24Or, you know, because when you lose a loved one and everything from stupidity or ignorance, you know, still you
04:31want, you want, you want, you want an atonement for it, you want justice.
04:36The person didn't deserve to die intentionally or unintentionally, but, you know, Yeshua said in the New Testament, you know,
04:46it's blessed to give, to forgive, you know, forgive, and it's hard for human beings because we harden our hearts
04:52all the time.
04:53Quite frankly, I don't know what I would do if, you know, I lost a loved one like that.
04:58I mean, I, I don't think I'd go out and murder them or anything because that's against the law plus
05:02against the heavenly law, but, you know, it's just, it's a terrible thing, you know, but, but with, uh, the
05:11murderers who, the ones that killed intentionally, they were, they were, they were just dispatched.
05:19It was put away, you know, stoning, stoning was a preferable treatment for, for anybody who was intentionally killed somebody,
05:28but then, you know, you had no favor also with Yahweh.
05:33So, so that's all I wanted to say about that.
05:37Please read up on, on them scriptures, you know, they're very interesting and very enticing.
