00:00Hey, Shalom brothers and sisters, welcome back. I thank you again for joining me today.
00:05Today I want to do an introduction to the Gospel of John. It's an important book, one of my favorite
00:10Gospels, but none of them are less. But anyways, I wanted to give you a background on it just in
00:17case you guys, you know, I'm sure you guys actually studied through the book of John, you know, the
00:22passages, the lessons, and things like that. But I just want to give you a background about this
00:27book, you know, like date, authorship, and composition date. Let's start with the composition
00:33date right here. It says, the date of composition is difficult to determine. Some scholars argue
00:40for an earlier date of 50 to 70 CE, which is common era, while others defend a date of 85
00:48CE or later.
00:51Oh, by the way, for another information, I don't want to get off the track here, but I did a
00:59video on introduction to the Synoptic Gospels. Please check that out, find it there, check
01:04it out, comment, let me know what you think about it. Now we'll go to the author here. While
01:09the book does not make mention of any specific author, tradition ascribes authorship to John,
01:15the Apostle, whom Yeshua loved. And you can find that in chapter 13, verse 23, chapter 20,
01:25verse 21, verses 7 and 20. Now we'll get to the background here. This book is the final of the
01:34four New Testament evangelists or gospels. During its writing, Judea was under Roman rule. As the
01:43Messiah's birth, the Jewish territory was governed by Herod the Great, an Edomite, and the line of Esau.
01:50He was known for his ruthlessness and barbarity. He has been called the evil genius of the Judean
01:57nation. Upon his death in 4 BCE before the common era, the kingdom was divided between three of his
02:05sons. While Rome maintained tight control over its territory, it also allowed relative freedom of
02:15religion and thought, as long as taxes were paid and Roman law was observed. However, the relationship
02:21between Rome and the Jewish people is often erratic and unstable. This was largely because of the
02:29religious differences between the two. Rome was polytheistic. They worshipped many gods, while the
02:36Jews were monotheistic worship of one mighty one, which was Yahweh. In an effort to maintain their
02:44spiritual purity, the Jews placed people in two categories, Jews and non-Jews. Those who were
02:51non-Jews or not of the Jewish faith were viewed as unclean. And you can see that note in the
02:56book of
02:57Acts, chapter 10, verse 9. John's evangel is unique from the three other evangelists. Unlike the synoptics
03:05evangelists, it contains no parables and only seven miracles, five in which are unique to this book.
03:13While the content provides an account of Yeshua's life from the beginning of his ministry
03:19to his death on the tree, it puts great emphasis on Yeshua's divinity and relationship to his father.
03:28According to the author, the book's purpose is that ye might believe that Yeshua is Messiah,
03:35the son of Yahweh, and that believing ye might have life through his name. You can find that in
03:40chapter 20, verse 31. The name Yeshua means Yahweh is salvation. And you can also note Matthew,
03:53chapter 1, verse 21. Now we'll get to the spiritual significance here.
04:03One of the greatest revelations found in John's evangelism is his description of Yeshua's divinity
04:10and pre-existence with his father prior to his conception. In several passages, he confirms that
04:18Yeshua existed with his father prior to his natural birth as a man. Chapter 1, verses 1 to 3.
04:30chapter 18, verse 18, here's chapter 3, verse 13, chapter 4, verse 34, chapter 5, verse 37, chapter 6,
04:41verse 38, verse 62, chapter 8, verse 23, 58. Finally, chapter 17, verse 5. This concept is also
04:56confirmed by the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians, chapter 10, verse 4, and Colossians, chapter 1, verses 13 to 18.
05:06John's is the only evangelist that lists three separate Passovers, chapter 2, verse 13, chapter 6, verse 4,
05:16and chapter 13, verse 1, adding weight to the traditional belief that Yeshua's ministry was three years
05:23in duration. So that gives you a little clue there. You probably never realized that, the three Passovers,
05:31of course, but there's been some debate as the Passover in chapter 6, verse 4, was added there by
05:39Eusebius. That's just a theory, but can't confirm it, but you really can't deny it either, but that's just a
05:47whole
05:47new story in itself. Maybe I'll do another video on that or something one day, but anyways, I encourage
05:54you guys to study the, you know, the Gospel of John. It's very enlightening, and you can take away a
06:00lot
06:01of lessons, and it's a book that, you know, you're just reading the study, and later you pick it back
06:06up
06:06again, and when you hear ministers talking or whatever, they always refer to John. They quote him,
06:14one saying or another, but anyways, that's all I have to say about that, and I'm really thankful
06:21that you guys tuned in and watched this video, and please feel free to watch my other videos. Comment
06:26below, let me know what you think, and also give me a big thumbs up, hit that notification bell,
06:31and subscribe. I really would appreciate that. Until we meet again, brothers and sisters, peace out, and shalom.
