00:06Today I want to talk about something I just came across on the internet and I didn't know this.
00:12This little fact, I was in a church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for a little while
00:18and come up with a legend. The legend is the LDS, Cain slash Bigfoot.
00:28If you guys like Bigfoot, we'll get into it. We'll talk about it right now.
00:32I got my notes right here. I couldn't believe what I was reading.
00:37And I also turned around, excuse me, I turned around and I started thinking,
00:42well, where does this story, what does this remind me of?
00:47Hmm. But anyways, I'm going to get into that and I just want to read this to you.

01:02It was an encounter in 1835 by William, William or Abraham O. Smoot's account,
01:12a secondhand account of Apostle David W. Patton.
01:18And he was an apostle back in 1835.
01:20So this is a secondhand account of what Abraham is saying about what David related to him
01:29and maybe a couple of others.
01:31They said he met a tall, dark, handsome, you know, tall, dark skinned, hairy man
01:40who claimed to be the biblical cane.
01:44This hairy man walked next to Patton who was riding on a mule or horse, whatever.
01:53Here's what Smoot said about Patton as describing the encounter in his own statements.
02:01Okay.
02:01This is his own statement.
02:04As I was riding a, riding a long road, as I was riding along the road on my mule,
02:14that's what I thought, I suddenly noticed a very strange person walking beside me.
02:19His head was about even with my shoulders as I sat on the saddle of the mule.
02:27He wore no clothing, but was covered with hair.
02:32His skin was very dark.
02:34I asked him where he dwelt, and he replied that he had no home,
02:40that he was a wanderer in the earth, or on the earth, I would say on,
02:46but they did say in, but on the earth, and traveled to and fro.
02:51He said he was a very miserable creature, and his mission was to destroy the souls of man.
03:01Believe it or not.
03:03Scary.
03:05Okay.
03:06President Spencer W. Kimball, former president, if you want to call him prophet,
03:13mentions in the story in his book,
03:15The Miracle of Forgiveness, published in 1969,
03:20two years after the Patterson,
03:22look,
03:24he published in 1969,
03:27two years,
03:28two years before,
03:31think about this,
03:32the Patterson-Gimlin footage of the Bigfoot
03:36was circulated.
03:39Sightings of the Bigfoot in 1980 reported in South Weber, Utah,
03:47had made a connection with the Saints.
03:50So the Saints are starting to try to put two and two together.
03:55In church history,
03:57to my, you know,
03:58to my knowledge,
03:59records of this story
04:01ever reached Joseph Smith.
04:03I don't know if Joseph Smith ever reached,

04:08this story.

04:14or anything where Joseph Smith,

04:28she was a plural wife of Joseph,

04:37poetress of her time.
04:39She's an absolute genius writer,
04:43literary talent.

04:44mention it in one of her poems later on.

04:48this reminds me,
04:50this reminds me of the story of,
04:52uh,
04:52Davy Crockett.
04:53Now we're getting into it.
04:55Yeah,
04:55I don't know if you've ever heard the story of Davy Crockett.
04:59Before he's,
04:59you know,
05:00he's on a track to the Alamo to help out.
05:03But,
05:03uh,
05:04I had to write this down.

05:06Davy Crockett.
05:08About the same time,
05:10and this was 1836.
05:131835 was,

05:18Patton's,

05:19story,
05:19which was a second and writing.

05:24this is 1836.
05:26The event happened and mentioned,
05:28and,

05:29it was mentioned in a letter that,

05:31Dave,
05:32Dave Crockett,
05:34he,
05:34uh,
05:35wrote,
05:35uh,
05:35like a brother-in-law in,
05:36uh,
05:37somewhere like New York or somewhere.
05:39He wrote,
05:40he wrote a story about,
05:41uh,
05:42an encounter with,
05:44uh,
05:44I guess with a hairy gorilla looking man.
05:49Here,
05:50I'll read this.
05:52A letter before his death at the Alamo.
05:54How a huge hairy gorilla came out of the thicket and vocally warned Crockett to turn around because of an
06:02impending danger ahead,
06:03like an omen.
06:06This,
06:06you know,
06:06and Davey,
06:07Davey was like,
06:09in his account,
06:10he said,
06:11uh,
06:11I thought I had bad meat.
06:13I thought I ate bad meat or,
06:14you know,
06:15it was an,
06:15uh,
06:16an exhaustive trip.
06:18You know,
06:19I think I overstretched myself.
06:21But,
06:22you know,
06:22it was an omen.
06:23He said,
06:23a gorilla come out and talked to him.
06:25And this is 1836.
06:27And think about the,
06:30the apostle Patton in 1835.
06:32It was kind of coincidental here.
06:34But then again,
06:35look,
06:36we didn't have internet.
06:37We didn't have telephones or anything.
06:40So,
06:41these two events were second hand.
06:45So,
06:46to say,
06:46roughly 20 years later,
06:49they were circulating around.
06:51Did one copy the other?
06:53I don't know,
06:55but I find it a little sketchy here.
06:57I don't know.

07:02the Mormons
07:04had a belief
07:05in Cain Ham curse.
07:07And we all know about this.
07:09The Cain Ham curse,
07:11which prevented
07:12a certain race
07:14from entering the priesthood.

07:22That ban was lifted
07:23in roughly 50 years ago,
07:25some of the 70s.
07:27Apostle Joseph Fielding Smith said,
07:30Cain was cursed
07:31to roam the earth
07:33without dying.
07:35And that's all I got

07:39it's kind of interesting

07:42if you believe in these
07:44Bigfoots,
07:46Sasquatches,
07:46whatever,
07:47if you believe in them

07:55how closely they were,

08:01encounter

08:03hairy giant,
08:04him and his son.

08:07that just intrigued me
