00:21Last month, something happened over Iran that the U.S. military hasn't experienced in decades.
00:27An American fighter jet was shot out of the sky.
00:31Not by a sophisticated missile system, not by another aircraft, but a weapon a single soldier could carry on their
00:39back.
00:40The aircraft was a U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle, one of the most advanced fighter jets ever
00:47built, worth around $30 million.
00:50It was operating over southwestern Iran in April 2026 when it was hit.
00:55Both crew members, a pilot and a weapons systems officer, ejected safely.
01:01The pilot was rescued within seven hours. His crewmate wasn't so lucky.
01:06He spent two days hiding in the foothills of the Zagros Mountains before finally being found.
01:11Here's where it gets really interesting.
01:14According to NBC News, citing three sources with direct knowledge of the matter, U.S. officials believe the jet was
01:21probably struck by a Chinese-made MANPAD, a man-portable air defense system.
01:27We're talking about a shoulder-launched missile, about seven feet long, weighing 40 pounds, something one person can carry, aim,
01:36and fire.
01:37And it took down a multi-million dollar warplane.
01:40That's the asymmetry of modern warfare right there.
01:44But the MANPAD isn't even the most alarming part of this story.
01:49Early in the conflict, according to NBC, China may have provided Iran with something called the YLC-8B, a long
01:57-range early warning radar specifically designed to detect stealth aircraft.
02:02Think about what that means. One of America's core advantages in the air is stealth technology, the ability to fly
02:10without being seen.
02:11If Iran had Chinese radar capable of seeing through that, the rules of the game just changed.
02:18It's unclear whether this specific radar was operational during the F-15E shoot-down.
02:23But the U.S. has already sanctioned Chinese satellite companies over allegations of providing Iran with satellite access and support,
02:32allegations China denies.
02:34Investigations are still ongoing. We don't have the full picture yet.
02:38But what this incident reveals is a potential new dynamic in modern conflicts.
02:43Cheap, portable weapons supplied by one superpower, guided by intelligence from another, used to neutralize hardware that costs hundreds of
02:53times more.
02:54The two crew members made it home, but the questions this raises about air superiority, Chinese involvement, and the future
03:01of aerial warfare, those are going to take a lot longer to answer.
