00:02Disney filed applications Thursday to renew broadcast licenses for eight of its ABC stations,
00:08but called the process unlawful and unconstitutional, according to CNBC.
00:13The company said it submitted the filings under protest in response to what it described as an
00:18arbitrary FCC order. The FCC launched an early review of the stations in late April,
00:24years ahead of their scheduled 2028 to 2031 renewals, citing concerns about Disney's diversity,
00:31equity, and inclusion practices. The agency began investigating Disney last March for possible
00:37violations of the Communications Act of 1934. Disney argued the FCC had not called for an early
00:44renewal in more than five decades and said the order had no legitimate purpose and violated the
00:50First Amendment. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr defended the review, saying Disney's prior responses to the
00:56agency's investigation had been disingenuous and deficient. For all things money, visit Benzinga.com.
