Parliamentary Secretary for the Treasury Torsten Bell says that the government will publish its plan to increase defence investment "as soon as it's ready, but we've got to get it right". It comes amid concern from defence industry leaders and opposition parties that the plan's publication is taking a long time.

00:00The important thing, it is important we deliver the defence investment plan.
00:03The Prime Minister said it's a priority and we'll publish as soon as it's ready.
00:06But we've got to get it right.
00:07We've learned from Ukraine that the world of war has changed very significantly just in the last few years.
00:12These are big decisions and we're going to get them right.
00:13But that's not holding us up from getting on with two things.
00:16Increasing defence expenditure right now will hit 2.6% of GDP next year, significantly earlier than planned.
00:22But we're also signing contracts, 1,200 defence contracts over the course of this government.
00:27Just last month, a billion pounds for howitzers.
00:29You'll have seen the big deal with Leonardo, helicopters in Somerset.
00:32We're getting on with those contracts right now because we've got to both make our country secure but also back
00:37our defence industry.
