00:00I think being Chancellor of the Exchequer is one of the hardest jobs in government
00:03because you need to take decisions that you know will affect millions of people
00:07but what John has been absolutely clear on is that we are rigid in our support
00:11for the fiscal rules, that we take fiscal discipline very seriously.
00:15It's at the heart of our decision making as a government
00:17and because of that he will take decisions in the budget to maintain those fiscal rules
00:22because if we lose control of the fiscal rules as we saw under Liz Truss
00:25we can see the impact that's paid for by ordinary people across the country
00:29with higher mortgage payments, we don't want to go back to those Liz Truss days
00:33and that's why that focus on getting people into work, growing our economy, helping with the cost of living
00:39are all important parts of making our economy more resilient and growing it as well.
