00:00And it's it's an interesting one. It's it's we've had some of this content making the rounds on on social
00:06media this past week because it's an excerpt of Bryson DeChambeau's appearance on the Katie Miller podcast.
00:13So this actually was recorded before his miscut in Iran to make and of the many quotes have been making
00:18the rounds. There's one that stood out to be most against what we discussed on the show.
00:22He said, I'm in that weird space right now. I don't know what to do, either content creation or professional
00:27golf. I don't know what to do right now.
00:29This is, of course, set against everything that's happening with live golf. We recap that in a previous video. You
00:34can go back and check out that we're talking about every single permutation of the league's potential future.
00:39But I think embedded in this specific quote from Bryson is a big shift, right?
00:46Because the question that we've asked here on our show is, would Bryson consider only doing YouTube golf and playing
00:53major championships, right?
00:55Could he go tourless at a certain point and just live on exemptions until he needed to qualify again?
01:00This feels a little different to me, right?
01:02Like, do I want to leave pro golf behind entirely for content creation at the age of 32?
01:08Like, how are you wrapping your head around where he seems to be right now?
01:14How are you wrapping your head around it?
01:15Let's start there and we'll go.
01:17We'll go off your first take.
01:19Like, you'll get first take here.
01:21There you go.
01:22There's like a, I was going to say a snake draft, but it's a take draft.
01:26We're going to come around.
01:28I'm curious what your thoughts are here because I have general thoughts and I want to see if we're kind
01:32of aligned here.
01:33So, okay.
01:34So, my thoughts go in a couple of different directions, right?
01:37Like, the first is just like sign of the times.
01:40Like, this is, can you imagine at any previous iteration of, you know, just golf, the game of golf itself,
01:47where a guy who'd reached the upper echelons of the sport, a guy's a two-time major winner in the
01:52prime of his career, said, yep, there's something else out there in this game that's better than playing pro golf
01:59and suits me perfectly and I'm just going to go do that.
02:02I mean, that's like, I don't even know what his participation in that space looks like.
02:09Like, is he like playing alongside Grant Horvat all the time or the Brian bros or, you know, it's, I
02:15mean, and no district, those guys are all phenomenal players.
02:18Bryson DeChambeau has won two U.S. Opens.
02:20Like, it's a little bit different.
02:21So, I think that that's the first thing to me is like, wow, what a place we've arrived.
02:25I think the second to me is trying to figure out how the financials are supposed to work there where
02:32we've heard, we've read reports and heard rumors about Bryson asking Liv, you know,
02:38before this whole thing kind of fell apart for half a billion dollars, right?
02:43So, okay, if he wants that type of money and then you look at like the nature of the structure
02:48of most of these NIL deals that players have and then a lot of those are, you know,
02:52predicated on how much exposure are you getting playing televised professional golf.
02:57Now, those brands could receive all sorts of exposure via his YouTube channel and there could be a restructuring of
03:04a contract that reflects that exposure.
03:07But I just don't know, like, when he says content creation, I'm like, I would love to know what he
03:13means exactly by that.
03:15Like, is it just playing golf?
03:16Is he going to start his own, like, Mr. Beast style, like Mr. Bryson spinoff channel where he's doing other
03:22content and it's all within this Bryson world?
03:25I don't know, but I have so many more questions than I have answers right now.
03:29Well, he clearly, you know, he's getting a lot of satisfaction from the amount of fans and people that he
03:39have impacted through this YouTube channel.
03:41Like, I think that's given him a sense of purpose of I'm going to continue on this this path with
03:48the YouTube channel.
03:49Sure, he's making a ton of money doing it.
03:50He's having a lot of fun doing it.
03:52I think he's found a little inner child in himself doing it.
03:56Yeah, but but in this, I think if you got down too far down the road and you just just
04:02did, you know, YouTube golf creation and you start to see your game slide to where, you know,
04:07he's been able to seamlessly play live golf, which is a shorter schedule, do all this YouTube golf creation and
04:13still show up to the majors and be one of the few guys from the live golf tour to really
04:18still feel like he didn't have a dip in form.
04:21Now, we've kind of gone back down a little bit to where you can start to point to, OK, is
04:25he slipping a little bit?
04:26That is to be determined.
04:28But I think the financials is a big, important piece because I think you're right.
04:34You know, when Bryson, you know, when all the contract negotiations were coming up and, you know, he's asking for
04:41five hundred million dollars and there is a back and forth and they're trying to figure out, you know, from
04:47the PIF and live side is like, what is the worth of Bryson DeChambeau to this league?
04:52And if he goes, does the league completely tank?
04:55Is this Bryson's league?
04:57And I think the negotiations back and forth and they never landed on a number, right?
05:03Like, is he never officially re-signed, which is the worst case scenario, of course, when Bryson was probably, I'm
05:10sure, blindsided like the rest of the guys on the tour, when PIF ultimately is going to pull, you know,
05:15their funding from live from live moving forward.
05:18And now Bryson's just sitting here just like I almost signed for what let's say he was going to sign
05:26for two hundred fifty million dollars.
05:28Like, let's say that was actually attainable number, which I actually truly believe was an attainable number for him to
05:35get from the Saudis.
05:35And now that number is zero.
