AccuWeather's Geoff Cornish says much-needed rainfall will continue across the drought-stricken southeastern U.S. this week, but will also heighten the risk of flash flooding throughout the region.

00:00Most southeastern droughts end in floods, and we're seeing some of that for parts of
00:05the region.
00:05Others are still locked into a significant drought, but we will see more relief.
00:10The latest drought monitor shows exceptional drought in north Florida and southeast Georgia.
00:15Some of the areas that had a dismal April for rain are making more progress this month
00:20along the southeast coast, especially a lot of areas with 2-3 inches of rain so far this
00:26month.
00:26Tallahassee and Charlotte have seen over 4 1⁄2 inches in the first 25 days of May.
00:31Some spots like Mobile, over 15 inches of rain.
00:35Most of that fell in the past week, and we're going to continue to see heavy rain in the central
00:40Gulf Coast.
00:41So a tremendous surplus for some.
00:43Lots of green on the map Wednesday, Thursday, and even on Friday.
00:47Future rainfall is going to continue to highlight the central Gulf states area with the most
00:53significant rain in parts of Mississippi and Alabama, but this is also beneficial into
00:57the Carolinas as well.
00:59And as we look at our forecast here, through Saturday, another 4-8 inches of rain in areas
01:03around Alabama and north Georgia, and 2-4 more inches in southeast Georgia.
