Coroner Elisabeth Armitage assured Kumanjayi White's family an inquest will aim to uncover the truth about why White died in police custody.

00:00On behalf of the Northern Territory Police Force, I extend my deepest condolences to his family, his loved ones and his community.
00:09I know this has been a devastating and painful time, and I want to acknowledge the profound grief felt not only here in the Northern Territory, but across the nation.
00:20As Commissioner, I am acutely aware of the responsibility we carry when a death occurs in custody. The community expects answers, and they expect transparency.
00:33I want to confirm that the Northern Territory Police have now received the final autopsy report into Koemanjol White's death.
00:42As part of our obligations, we have compiled a full and comprehensive brief of evidence, which has now been provided to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
00:52It is the Director of Public Prosecutions that will now determine whether criminal charges will be laid against any officer or officers involved.
01:02The coronial process remains ongoing.
