00:00I'd like to state that no braineese or insects were harmed in the making of this program,
00:03and that none of the training you're about to see be attempted unless under expert supervision.
00:09Eight braineese, one challenge.
00:11To use complex mass of 100 billion cells we call Brain for chance to win Brain Jutsu Black Brain Belt.
00:19This is Brain Jutsu.
00:27Born in Lancashire, trained in Japan, with mind as sharp as Samurai sword,
00:33he is Brain Master, he is the Sensei.
00:37Konnichiwa, and welcome to Brain Jutsu.
00:42Mental training specially designed to boost brain power and focus.
00:46My trainees, or braineese, have been following a basic program of training in the comfort of their own home.
00:53A brain-boosting routine of exercise, sleep, and enough fruit and veg to stock a greengrocer's.
01:01Well, I think I'm going to win the black belt. I'm actually quite nervous.
01:08I feel a bit more confident knowing that I've prepared because I did most of the tasks.
01:11My strength is maths, and I won a prize, so I really think that's going to help me in the
01:15dojo,
01:16because I really want to win.
01:17Now my braineese must put their training into practice.
01:20By testing a part of their brain we use every day.
01:24Level one.
01:25You're no fault!
01:28Take a look at my very cluttered garage.
01:31Now, try to find the little rubber duck.
01:34Spotted, eh?
01:35Congratulations!
01:36You've just used your occipital lobes.
01:39This area, the seeing part of our brain, allows us to recognise and separate images from each other.
01:46The seven braineese, who use their occipital lobes the best,
01:49will be allowed to enter my brain jitsu dojo, where their training will continue.
01:54The one who fails will be left outside.
01:58Oh!
01:58Feel the burn.
02:00Enter the dojo!
02:05Our braineese must answer four questions by studying the different football team kits on the board in front of them.
02:12Get them right, and they'll be left with a four-digit code,
02:15which they must then use to unlock a piece of brain and secure their place in the dojo.
02:20But with only seven pieces of brain and eight braineese,
02:24one of either Elliot, Cara, Max, Jackie, Oscar, Priscilla, Alex or Ben,
02:30will be left outside and eliminated.
02:35A bang of the gong reveals the four questions.
02:46How many have horizontal striped tops?
02:56How many have vertical striped tops?
02:59How many have vertical striped tops?
03:09How many have black shorts?
03:15The answer our braineese are looking for is 2477.
03:21The order in which they unlock their piece of brain
03:24will decide the order our braineese take part in the levels to come.
03:32Jackie is first off her stool,
03:34with the rest of her braineese not far behind.
03:39But with no more pieces of brain left,
03:42Elliot is having to wait his turn.
03:45And it's Alex who's first to unlock a piece of brain,
03:48quickly followed by Elliot,
03:49who's got his chance after all and made it count.
03:54Meanwhile, Jackie, first off her stool,
03:57is first to return.
03:58A code clearly wrong.
04:02Don't forget that code is 2477,
04:06as there are two kits with green shorts,
04:08four with horizontal striped tops,
04:11seven with vertical striped tops,
04:13and seven with black shorts.
04:17No problems for Oscar,
04:19as he becomes the third braineese to go through.
04:24But holy karaoke,
04:26Ben is getting his brain in the right old twist.
04:30Come on, Ben,
04:31keep your focus and work those occipital lobes.
04:35With Max now through,
04:37Ben finally cracks that combination,
04:39leaving just the girls to battle it out
04:41for the last two places in the dojo.
04:45Priscilla and Cara both think they've got the right combination,
04:48but while Cara's lock pops open,
04:51Priscilla has to return to the noodle bar
04:52for yet another look at the board.
04:55It's now a two-horse race between her and Jackie.
05:00Jackie taking her time.
05:06And it pays off,
05:07which means that Jackie's in
05:09and poor old Priscilla is out.
05:12While seven have proven themselves worthy
05:14of entering the dojo
05:15and continuing their brain training,
05:17for Priscilla,
05:18it's the end of the road.
05:25I think I just got under pressure
05:27and I'm not very good under pressure
05:29and I just felt like I had to go quickly
05:32and I just counted one more
05:35than there should have been.
05:37So, with six levels to go,
05:39it's time for Alex, Elliot, Oscar, Max, Ben, Cara and Jackie
05:45to receive their yellow brain belts.
05:47Well, normally I'm really calm,
05:49but this time this pressure really got to me.
05:51It was very worrying when it was just Priscilla and I
05:53because I was really hoping that I wouldn't be the one
05:56to go out in the first round.
05:59Well, I feel really, really happy about coming first.
06:02I'm also a bit nervous about the next game
06:04because if that was only the first level,
06:06I'm a little bit worried.
06:09Rain Titu!
06:11In this next level of training,
06:13things are going to get really hard.
06:16Level two.
06:17Orange Vault!
06:20We do things every day without even thinking about it,
06:23like using the remote control for the telly.
06:25But try turning up the volume with the hand
06:29that you don't normally use.
06:30Go on, a lot more harder, isn't it?
06:33If you manage to do that,
06:34you're using part of your brain
06:36that deals with problem solving,
06:37the frontal lobes.
06:39And that's what level two is all about.
06:42Taking something you normally do without thinking
06:45and doing it differently.
06:47Work it!
06:48To prepare them for using their frontal lobes
06:51in the next challenge,
06:52my brainees are going to need some training.
06:54Room of Mental Nourishment.
06:58This is the Room of Mental Nourishment
07:01where our young hopefuls
07:02will train their brains between every task.
07:04The more seriously they take their training,
07:06the better prepared they'll be
07:07for the challenges that lie ahead.
07:09And in level two,
07:11that challenge is all about getting their brains
07:13to think in a new way.
07:16Brain training.
07:17Take turns to call out the action on your cards.
07:19Everyone must do it only when you say
07:21Sensei says before the action.
07:24So, our brainees must think about something,
07:26like following a simple instruction,
07:28that they'd normally do without thinking.
07:31Sensei says rub stomach clockwise.
07:35Right knee up.
07:39Almost immediately,
07:40Alex gets his brain in a right old twist.
07:43Ironman.
07:44Touch right ear.
07:45And he's not the only one
07:46whose frontal lobes are struggling to keep up.
07:49Sensei says touch mouth with right hand.
07:53Okay, look happy.
07:56Max!
07:58Max too has also got in a muddle.
08:00Time for a training tip.
08:03Tip.
08:04Don't rush.
08:06Pause for two seconds to think before you react.
08:08Top tip.
08:09You see,
08:10spending a moment to think
08:11before rushing in
08:12really can improve your all-round focus.
08:15Sensei says rub stomach clockwise.
08:17Top wise.
08:18So,
08:19how will our brainees cope this time?
08:22Turn head right.
08:24Sensei says touch left shoulder.
08:26Hey,
08:26there's no fooling this lot.
08:27Sharp as samurai swords they are.
08:29Left knee up.
08:32Sensei says touch your nose with left hand.
08:35Hang on,
08:36didn't you just say left hand,
08:37Kara?
08:38Don't.
08:39Thought so.
08:43It was fun.
08:44It was good training.
08:45But,
08:45um,
08:46I think the actual task
08:48is going to be a lot,
08:49yeah,
08:50it's,
08:51it's,
08:51it's,
08:52it's going to be a lot harder.
08:53But this was good training for it.
08:54Kara has made quite a lot of mistakes,
08:56but she's probably learnt
08:58a lot from them
08:59and she'll,
09:00she'll go far.
09:01So,
09:02will Kara learn from her mistakes?
09:04Or will it be able Alex
09:05who'll once again commit on top?
09:07It's time for our brainees
09:09to put their training
09:10to the test.
09:12Guardian of the dojo
09:13and task adjudicator the Sheehan
09:15will now demonstrate
09:16the level two challenge.
09:18Spell backwards.
09:19Step forward.
09:21To stand chance
09:22of gaining orange belt,
09:24seven brainees
09:24must now think in reverse.
09:26Sheehan will show them picture.
09:28They have to say what is.
09:30That is cut.
09:31Then,
09:32they spell word backwards.
09:34T.
09:35A.
09:35C.
09:37Get right
09:38and our brainees
09:39can step forward.
09:40Get wrong
09:41and they stay put.
09:43Brainees can choose
09:44length of word
09:45they want to spell backwards.
09:47Longer word,
09:48more time they get to answer.
09:49Three seconds
09:50for three letter word,
09:51up to six seconds
09:52for six letters.
09:54More letters,
09:55more steps
09:56towards destination.
09:58There is slight advantage
09:59to going first
10:00in challenge,
10:00but order brainees
10:02take part
10:02is order
10:03they complete
10:04at level one.
10:05Whoever not finished
10:06will be eliminated
10:07from the dojo.
10:09My brainy tip here
10:11is to imagine
10:11the whole word
10:12and then
10:13break it down
10:14into groups of letters.
10:16Who?
10:16Who?
10:17Work those frontal lobes.
10:21First to put their
10:22brain training
10:23to the test
10:23is Abel Alex
10:24who immediately
10:25goes for the maximum.
10:27Six letter word,
10:28please.
10:29Hammer.
10:31R-E-M-M-E-M-E-M-E-M-E-M-E-M-E.
10:47I-I-P.
10:50No such problems
10:51for Elliot.
10:53Six letter word,
10:55please.
10:56Like Alex,
10:56Oscar's also
10:57gone for broke.
10:58A risky strategy.
11:00Candle.
11:02E-L-D-N-A-C.
11:07But it looks like
11:08his training
11:08has paid off.
11:11Six letter word,
11:13please.
11:15Rocket.
11:16T-E-K-C-E-R.
11:21That's nothing
11:22for Max.
11:24Six letter word,
11:25please.
11:26Spider.
11:27R-E-P-E-M-E-M-E-M-E-M-E-M-E-M-E-M-E-M-E
11:34-M-E-M-E-M-E-M-E-M-E.
11:34Ben also scores
11:35Nick's
11:35with six.
11:36Six letter word,
11:37please.
11:38It's now the
11:38girls' turn,
11:39starting with
11:39Cara.
11:41Window.
11:41W-O-D-N-I-W
11:46Jacket also decides to stretch her frontal lobes and goes for the big one.
11:50Six-letter word, please.
11:53Pencil. L-I-C-N-E-P
11:57And that's six steps. It's now back to Alex. Can he get off the mark this time?
12:05Six-letter word, please.
12:07Badger.
12:08R.
12:11Hurry up, Alex.
12:12E.
12:13Oh dear, you're out of time.
12:17Six-letter word, please.
12:19Anchor. R-O-H-C-A
12:23No joy for Elliot either.
12:26Six-letter word.
12:29Rabbit.
12:30T-I-B-B-A-R
12:34But another six-letter word for Oscar and he becomes the first brainy to go through.
12:41He was soon followed by the two girls.
12:45BAM!
12:47Which leaves Alex, Elliot, Max and Ben to battle it out for those remaining orange belts.
12:54Three more correct answers and the pressure's now on Ben to get his first score.
12:58Six-letter word, please.
13:01Toilet.
13:02Toilet.
13:03L-O-T-E-L-I-O-T
13:09Out of time yet again. The big six-letter word getting the better of our brain ease.
13:16With Elliot and Max now through, Ben will need a miracle if he's to remain in the dojo.
13:22Four-letter word, please.
13:25Drum.
13:26M-U-R-D
13:27At last. But if Alex gets this, then it's going to be sayonara for Ben.
13:33Three-letter word, please.
13:35Box.
13:36X-O-B
13:39That's it. It's all over.
13:42While Alex stays in, Ben must hand over his brain belt and leave the dojo.
13:53Walk of eternal regret.
13:56So the brain training was quite easy, but, and I felt really confident.
14:00Well, I guess I was overconfident when I went to the task.
14:07So with five levels to go, it's time for Alex, Elliot, Oscar, Max, Cara and Jackie
14:13to get their orange brain belts.
14:16It's really exciting, and I was quite scared.
14:19I thought that I'd get something wrong, but I, luckily I didn't.
14:24In the brain training, I've done a lot of mistakes, but I've obviously learnt from it
14:28because in the task I came second.
14:30It's not easy, and this is only the second tasks, and there's still many more to go,
14:37so it's going to keep on getting harder and harder and harder.
14:42Rain season.
14:46Brainy, not so brainy.
14:49Who's the clever clogs, and whose brain needs a lot more training?
14:53Picture the scene.
14:54It's 250 years ago, and a lad called Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is only six years old,
15:00and already playing the aftercord, composing amazing music, and performing it to the empress
15:05of Austria.
15:05But did he stop there?
15:06No, he did not.
15:08He only went on to write another 600 major works.
15:10Not bad for someone who only lived to the age of 35.
15:14Wolfgang-tastic.
15:15Around the same time, a French writer called Jean-Baptiste Vivienne de Chateaubranne spent 40 years
15:21perfecting just two measly plays, and if that weren't bad enough, just as he's on the point
15:25of finishing them, his housekeeper goes and mistakes the manuscripts for wrapping paper,
15:29and puts the kibosh on his life's work.
15:32Gutted.
15:33Brainy, Mozart.
15:34Not-so-briny Jean-Baptiste.
15:39Brain Jitsu.
15:43Pressure in Brain Jitsu Dojo rising.
15:45Just six young hopeful remain to compete under what's for eye of Sheehan.
15:51Able Alex, first to make it into Dojo.
15:54I feel really, really happy about coming first.
15:57Leek Elliot.
15:59Kara, good at spelling backwards.
16:01I've done a lot of mistakes, but I've obviously learned from it,
16:04because in the task I came second.
16:06Max, quietly confident.
16:08Jackie, get stronger all time.
16:10I feel a bit more confident, knowing that I've prepared, because I did most of the tasks.
16:15And Oscar, winner of last level.
16:18Challenge is about to get even tougher.
16:21Only 2, Brady will make final test.
16:24Table of Supreme Forecast.
16:25Where must move a ball with power of mine to win Brain Jitsu Black Brain Belt is time for...
16:33Level 3.
16:34Who is that?
16:36Now, we all like to chat, but did you know that using words to communicate is one of the main
16:42reasons why our brains have grown so incredibly powerful?
16:46And that having a conversation exercises both halves of the brain.
16:51Now, if all that's doing your head in, allow me to explain.
16:56Imagine you're the trumpet player in an orchestra.
16:59Your main focus is on your own notes.
17:02But the conductor, well, he has to listen for everyone's notes.
17:07It's the same with the brain.
17:09There's the left half, which deals with the details.
17:12And there's the right half, which looks at the overall picture.
17:15This next level of training strengthens my brainies' focus by working one half of their brain under pressure.
17:23Hey, pump it up!
17:25Room of Mental Nourishment.
17:31It's our brainies' second visit to the Room of Mental Nourishment, where once again they'll train for their next challenge,
17:37which, remember, is all about using the two halves of the brain to communicate.
17:43Get into pairs.
17:44Direct the blindfolded brainie to stack the blocks using only one hand.
17:50So, while one brainie uses the right side of their brain to give instructions,
17:55their partner must use the left side of their brain to interpret them.
18:00Put them two facing the same way.
18:03Alex is certainly giving Elliot instructions.
18:06Lots and lots of them, in fact.
18:08Well done.
18:08Now put it next to it.
18:10Next to it.
18:11Nope.
18:12Nope.
18:12The other way.
18:13Lengthways.
18:14Lengthways next to it.
18:15No.
18:16Now.
18:16But they're not making much sense.
18:18And the boys' tower block is struggling to get off the ground floor.
18:21Two more.
18:22Yeah, no, a bit more to the right.
18:24Move it a bit.
18:25To the right, a bit more.
18:26Here, you see the one on the side of your hand?
18:28Well, you don't see it.
18:29That's not a lot of help, Jackie.
18:31Kara's wearing a blindfold, remember?
18:32Block.
18:33To the right a bit.
18:35Forward a bit.
18:36Yeah, and now just rest it down lightly.
18:40Carefully does it, Kara.
18:42What our guiders need to do is imagine the information their teammates need,
18:46because good communication means putting yourself in somebody else's shoes.
18:50Yes, that will do that small one.
18:52Just a little bit.
18:53And while I'm not sure the girls' tower would stand up to a strong wind,
18:56it's definitely proof that Jackie and Kara are communicating well.
19:01Backwards.
19:02Oh, well, don't mind.
19:04Yeah, I found this training quite easy,
19:07so hopefully in the task I'll do quite well.
19:10You didn't say turn it to the left or clockwise.
19:12You said turn it, so I didn't know which way to turn it.
19:15I thought I was doing OK.
19:17I know I did give you quite a few wrong directions.
19:21It kind of came together.
19:23It really just found anything that we could
19:26and tried to, as it were, work with that.
19:29It was not very planned, perhaps, but it worked.
19:34So, will careful Kara be just as careful in the next task?
19:38And will able Alex remember that sometimes it pays to talk less?
19:43It's time to find out,
19:44as our six now put the communication train in to the test.
19:49Lantanwak, number crack!
19:51This is test of communication skill.
19:54So, six brainy must first divide into teams of two
19:57by drawing chopsticks.
20:03As quickly as possible,
20:05teams must whack open six lanterns,
20:07containing number, that go together to form some.
20:10Pairs first need to decide who is Guider, who is Whacker.
20:15Whackers will be blindfolded
20:17and will be relying on Guider
20:19to locate lanterns.
20:21When all six are opened,
20:23brainy's stop clock by shouting,
20:25Brinjutsu!
20:26Quicker they whack lanterns,
20:28more time they have to pick up numbers
20:30and work out some.
20:32When brainy's are happy with answer,
20:35hit gong!
20:36First two teams to provide correct answer
20:38get green belts and advance to next level.
20:42One brainy from losing team will be eliminated.
20:45The key to success here
20:47is for the Guider to use the right side of their brain
20:50to follow their teammates' progress
20:52and give them clear instructions.
20:55For their partner,
20:56it's vital they use the left side of their brain
20:59to focus on these instructions
21:01and nothing else.
21:04forward one step.
21:06First to test their communication skills
21:08are Elliot and Max.
21:11Whack.
21:13With Guider Elliot working the right side of his brain
21:16and Max the left,
21:17the boys get off to a slow but steady stance.
21:21To the left.
21:22Bit more.
21:24Whack.
21:26Forward.
21:27But then they begin to pick up the pace.
21:29A little bit.
21:31Whack.
21:34Whack.
21:35Brain Jitsu.
21:36The pair stop the clock in one minute, 12 seconds,
21:39but they'll have to wait to find out
21:41how much extra time it's bought them
21:43to make their sum.
21:46OK, go forward a little bit.
21:48Next, it's careful Cara and Abel Alex.
21:50Whack.
21:50In training, Alex was guilty
21:52of giving too much information.
21:54Move right a bit.
21:56Right a bit more.
21:57Whack.
21:57Will he make the same mistake twice?
22:01Back a little bit more.
22:03Whack.
22:05Not a bit of it.
22:06With Alex's help,
22:07Cara is whacking those lanterns
22:09faster than a samurai on skates.
22:11Whack.
22:12Right a bit.
22:14Whack.
22:15Brain Jitsu.
22:16Stopping the clock in a whack-tastic 39 seconds.
22:19Well done.
22:22One step forward.
22:25Right.
22:26To your right.
22:27Last to go are Oscar and Jackie.
22:30With Oscar doing the guiding,
22:31it looks like he's also remembered his training,
22:33giving Jackie clear and precise instructions.
22:37And whack.
22:40Forward about a step.
22:42Um, and whack.
22:46Backwards about half a step.
22:49Um, left a bit.
22:51Um, whack.
22:53Play Brain Jitsu.
22:55That's the last lantern,
22:56and it's a decent time,
22:58just one minute, seven seconds.
23:00But it's nowhere near as quick as Cara and Alex,
23:03and it's they who set off first to find their numbers.
23:07Here's what our brainies are looking for.
23:11See if you can work out the sum.
23:13Remember, the first two teams to work it out
23:15will go through to the next level.
23:20Cara and Alex are first to bang the gong,
23:23just ahead of Oscar and Jackie,
23:25with Elliot and Max trailing in third.
23:27But do all the numbers add up?
23:31Five times three minus seven equals eight.
23:34That looks okay.
23:35In fact, all our teams have found the right answer.
23:37But as the last to finish,
23:39it's Elliot and Max
23:40who'll be battling it out to avoid elimination in the...
23:46Stare off.
23:48With just one green belt up for grabs,
23:51both brainies must use all their powers of focus
23:53to fight the urge to blink.
23:55The first to falter will be eliminated.
24:02And it's Max who can resist no longer.
24:06So while Big Elliot is in,
24:08Max is out
24:09and must hand over his orange brain belt to the She-Han.
24:15Walk of eternal regret.
24:19I think our communication was good,
24:21but it was the sun that held us up.
24:23But it still is really set to go out.
24:25So with four levels left,
24:27it's green brain belts for Alex,
24:29Elliot,
24:30Oscar,
24:31Cara,
24:32and Jackie.
24:33I'm really good at staring competition,
24:34so I thought Max is going to go.
24:36I found it hard
24:37because my eyes started stinging.
24:39I didn't think
24:40I can do this,
24:41I can do this.
24:42Now I see that I can go out
24:43at any point
24:44during the next task.
24:48Brain T2!
24:52Level 4.
24:53Blue belt!
24:55This fourth level
24:56requires our brainies
24:58to master a primitive part of the brain
25:00called the amygdala,
25:02the area that responds to threat.
25:04Oh, ho!
25:06Oh, phew!
25:09Remember the last time
25:10you felt afraid or panicky?
25:12Maybe it was on a dark night.
25:13Well,
25:14that feeling was triggered
25:16by the old amygdala.
25:18Stress can make you lose focus.
25:21Fact.
25:22Which is why my brainies
25:24must train
25:25to keep their emotions
25:26under control.
25:28Room of Mental Nourishment.
25:34We're back in the room
25:36of mental nourishment
25:36and it's time for our five
25:38remaining green belt holders
25:39to overcome fear
25:40and stay totally focused.
25:43Brain training.
25:45Form a circle.
25:46Pass the disgusting drink
25:48around the circle,
25:49only passing it on
25:51when you have said
25:52a different word
25:53ending in the letter D.
25:55After one minute,
25:56the brainy holding the drink
25:58has to drink it.
25:59But drink what?
26:01Well,
26:01how about a nice glass
26:03of cheesy Stilton juice?
26:05Abel Alex
26:05kicks things off.
26:07Mud.
26:11Sound.
26:12And for some reason,
26:13most of our brainies
26:14can't resist a quick sniff.
26:17Mad.
26:20Dad.
26:21There's no need to smell it
26:22a second time, Alex.
26:23Blood.
26:26Backward.
26:28Ooh,
26:28a long pause from Jackie
26:29is her amygdala
26:30gaining the upper hand.
26:32Drinked.
26:33And as the clock
26:34counts down,
26:35the pace starts to quicken.
26:38Stalked.
26:39Past.
26:41There's the gong
26:42and it's Jackie
26:43who has to down
26:44the gruesome gloop.
26:52Time for a training tip.
26:56Concentrate.
26:57Try to blank out the time
26:58in fear of the drink
26:59to avoid panicking.
27:01Do we have to do it again?
27:03I'm not thirsty anymore.
27:04I've had enough.
27:04Nice try, Jackie.
27:06Just remember the tip
27:07and you'll be fine.
27:08You see,
27:09focusing only on the task
27:10in hand is a useful tip
27:11in almost any situation
27:13in which you feel nervous.
27:14The calmer you are,
27:16the better you'll perform.
27:17Round two.
27:19I'll go first.
27:21Had.
27:24Bad.
27:25And once again,
27:26Alex can't resist a sniff.
27:28Cord.
27:28Anyone would think
27:29he likes the smell.
27:30Cord.
27:32Baked.
27:34Stabbed.
27:35Told.
27:37Armed with their tip,
27:38our brainies begin
27:39to pass that drink round
27:40faster than a Japanese
27:41bullet train.
27:44Murdered.
27:44Sid.
27:48Where's the second gong,
27:50but who's been left
27:51holding the cup of yoke?
27:52I think both of you
27:54should have some.
27:59Oh, that stinks.
28:05Oh, that stinks.
28:08I don't know how
28:10I'm going to cope.
28:11This was very
28:12nerve-wracking for me.
28:14I think you killed me.
28:16Will Abel Alex
28:17come back to life
28:17in time for the next task?
28:19And will Oscar's nerves
28:21have got over
28:22the shock of his training?
28:23It's time to find out
28:25as our five are now
28:26challenged to overcome
28:27their fears once again.
28:29Creepy, crotty,
28:30word grab.
28:32This level
28:33will test
28:33of mind
28:34over matter
28:34for brainies
28:35and will push them
28:36to really overcome
28:37their fear.
28:38Underneath the creepy crawlies
28:40lie an assortment
28:41of letters
28:41worth different points.
28:43Brainies have just
28:44one minute
28:44to plunge hands
28:45into tank
28:46and pick out
28:47up to seven letters
28:48each.
28:49They then have
28:50a further minute
28:51to make higher
28:52scoring words
28:53they can.
28:55To do well
28:56my brainies
28:57must block out
28:58the signals
28:59coming from
28:59their amygdala
29:00and ignore
29:01the creepy crawlies.
29:03The quicker
29:03they combat
29:04their fear
29:04the more time
29:05they'll have
29:06to pick out
29:06the high scoring
29:07letters.
29:11Underneath
29:12this pile of
29:12cockroaches
29:13are an extra
29:13five golden letters.
29:15If our brainies
29:16manage to use
29:16one in their word
29:17they'll double
29:18their score.
29:22Where's the gun?
29:24But instead of
29:25diving in like
29:25the others
29:26it looks like
29:27Oscar's completely
29:28forgotten his
29:28training.
29:29Frightened to put
29:30his hand anywhere
29:31near the tank.
29:32No problems
29:33for Jackie though
29:34who's remembered
29:35to ignore the
29:36cockroaches
29:36and focus just
29:37on finding
29:38those letters.
29:39Alex also looks
29:41to have his
29:41amygdala
29:41under control.
29:48The minute's up.
29:50Our brainies
29:50now have a
29:51further minute
29:52to make the
29:52highest scoring
29:53word they can
29:54from their letters.
29:55Abel Alex
29:56has found
29:56one golden letter.
29:58If he can
29:58just make a word
29:59he'll double
30:00his score.
30:01But Oscar's
30:01board is a
30:02consonant-free
30:03zone.
30:03He'll be lucky
30:04if he makes
30:04any sort of
30:05score with
30:05that lot.
30:07See if you
30:08can make a word
30:08from the
30:09anagram at the
30:09bottom of the
30:10screen.
30:21there's the last
30:22gong.
30:23How have our
30:24green belt
30:24holders done?
30:27Fear.
30:28I'd say you
30:29showed no fear
30:30son.
30:31With that golden
30:31A in his word
30:32it's a big fat
30:3314 points for
30:34Abel Alex.
30:35Boa.
30:37A quick
30:37check in the
30:38dictionary and
30:38that's five points
30:39for Big Elliot.
30:41A.
30:43With only those
30:44vowels to choose
30:44from that's just
30:45one point for
30:46Oscar.
30:48Lied.
30:49Five points for
30:50careful Cara.
30:52Fry.
30:54And a healthy
30:54ten points for
30:55Jackie.
30:57And so by
30:58only scoring a
30:59single point it's
31:00Oscar who must
31:01hand over his
31:02brain belt and
31:03leave the
31:03dojo.
31:07Walk of
31:08eternal
31:09regret.
31:11The brain
31:12training helped
31:12me a bit but
31:14when it came to
31:15the creepy
31:16quarters they
31:16were horrible
31:17and I couldn't
31:18quite get my
31:18hand in there
31:19and things
31:19that they're
31:20going quite
31:20fast and I
31:23couldn't.
31:24They were so
31:25revolting.
31:29So with only
31:30three levels
31:30left those
31:31who use the
31:32craniums to
31:32conquer the
31:33cockroaches are
31:34rewarded with
31:34their blue
31:35belts.
31:37Feeling kind
31:38of surprised
31:38that I got in
31:39because I didn't
31:40think I could
31:40face those bugs.
31:42I prepared
31:43myself for the
31:43worst and the
31:45worst never
31:46came.
31:47I did my best
31:48and I came out
31:48on top.
31:49At one point
31:50when I was
31:50dusting off the
31:51sand and I was
31:52picking up a
31:52letter a bug
31:53actually ran up
31:54my hand and
31:55I went
31:56and then it
31:57kind of fell
31:58off again but I
31:59still got the
31:59letter.
32:09who's the
32:10clever clogs
32:10and whose
32:11brain needs a
32:11lot more
32:12training?
32:13First up
32:13astronauts.
32:14This exclusive
32:15group is made
32:16up by some of
32:16the brightest
32:17bods on
32:17earth.
32:18In 1969
32:19astronaut Neil
32:20Armstrong stepped
32:21onto the moon
32:22uttering the
32:22immortal words
32:23one small step
32:24for man one
32:25giant leap for
32:26mankind.
32:27I wonder if that
32:28was off the top
32:28of his head.
32:29Here's another
32:30group.
32:30Now not McFly.
32:31Oi get your
32:32hair cut.
32:33This lot.
32:34Now they may
32:35not believe the
32:36moon is made
32:36of cheese but
32:37they do believe
32:38in rolling down
32:39a steep slug to
32:40win some.
32:41E them that's
32:41going to hurt.
32:43Brainy
32:43astronauts.
32:44Not so
32:45brainy.
32:45Cheese rolling
32:46chumps.
32:53Tension in
32:54brain jitsu
32:54dojo mounting
32:55as now just
32:56four young
32:57hopeful remain
32:58to compete
32:59under what
32:59fly of she
33:00hand.
33:01Abel Alex
33:02winner three
33:03out of four
33:04level.
33:05I think I'm
33:06going to win
33:06the black belt.
33:07I'm I'm I'm
33:09actually quite
33:09nervous.
33:10Big Elliot
33:11steady throughout.
33:13Jackie.
33:14A bug actually
33:15ran up my hand
33:16and I went
33:16whoa.
33:17And careful
33:18Kara.
33:18Always positive.
33:20In the brain
33:21training I've
33:21done a lot of
33:22mistakes but I've
33:23obviously learnt
33:24from it because
33:24in the task I
33:25came second.
33:27Only two
33:28brainy will make
33:29final test.
33:30Table of
33:30supreme focus.
33:31Where must
33:32move ball with
33:33power of mind.
33:35Brain jitsu
33:35black brain belt
33:36is within the
33:37grasp.
33:38It's time for
33:40level five.
33:42Red belt.
33:44Now if you've
33:46just taken up
33:47competitive bog
33:48snorkelling
33:48then you might
33:49be interested to
33:50know that your
33:50new hobby is
33:51doing wonders for
33:53the old grey
33:53matter.
33:54Exercising both
33:55the thinking part
33:56of the brain
33:57the cerebrum
33:58and the doing
33:59part the
34:00cerebellum.
34:01You see doing
34:02new things
34:03increases the
34:03flow of blood
34:04into your head
34:05which keeps your
34:06brain cells
34:07topped up with
34:08the oxygen they
34:09need to perform
34:10at their best.
34:10So in level
34:12five my
34:13brainy's are
34:14going to be
34:14challenged to
34:15learn new
34:15skills.
34:16Now you can
34:17speed up how
34:18quickly the
34:19brain takes in
34:20new stuff and
34:21this is what our
34:22brainy's are
34:23going to train
34:23for now.
34:25Room of
34:26Mental
34:26Nourishment
34:30It's our
34:31brainy's fourth
34:32visit to the
34:32room of mental
34:33nourishment where
34:34they'll be
34:34training their
34:35brains in how
34:35to learn new
34:36skills.
34:39brain training
34:40spin the
34:41drumstick between
34:42your fingers for
34:42as long as
34:43possible.
34:44I play drums
34:44I might be
34:45able to do
34:45that.
34:46I've practiced
34:47a bit but
34:48Sounds like
34:48someone's got an
34:49advantage.
34:50Why do you need
34:51to spin a drumstick
34:51when's it going to
34:52help you in life?
34:53It's a fair question
34:54but what our
34:55brainy's have to
34:56remember is that
34:57if they follow
34:57their training
34:58it'll help them
34:59in the next task.
35:01Why are we just
35:01sitting here?
35:02Why don't we just
35:02get on with it
35:03get it over with?
35:07Not a good start.
35:09Well look at it
35:10this way Alex
35:11you can only get
35:11better.
35:13Wait look
35:13look
35:13what's this
35:15I can
35:16part of it.
35:18Very good Elliot
35:19even for a
35:20drummer.
35:22But while Big
35:23Elliot is twirling
35:24his drumstick
35:25faster than
35:25noodles around
35:26a chopstick
35:27able Alex
35:27has found a
35:28new method.
35:29I don't know
35:30time for a
35:31training tip.
35:34Approach this
35:34positively
35:36laugh out
35:37loud for
35:3830 seconds.
35:41Cue the
35:42laughter tape.
35:46It might seem
35:47weird but the
35:48next time you
35:48face a mental
35:49challenge try
35:49laughing as
35:50well.
35:51Not only can
35:52it help with
35:52confidence but it
35:53also increases
35:54your heart rate
35:55sending more
35:55oxygen into your
35:56brain helping it
35:57to perform at
35:58its best.
36:02Not that you'd
36:03necessarily know
36:04it from this
36:04lot.
36:05I think it
36:05might be
36:06hippo racing.
36:07I know the
36:07task is a
36:08new skill but
36:08I've done a
36:09lot of weird
36:10things so it
36:10might not be
36:11that new to
36:12me.
36:12I've never
36:13hippo raced
36:14before.
36:14So will Big
36:15Elliot's talent
36:16for twirling
36:17give him an
36:17edge in the
36:18next task?
36:19And will
36:20Abel Alex
36:20come to regret
36:21not taking his
36:22training a bit
36:23more seriously?
36:24Only time
36:25will tell as
36:26our four now
36:26put their
36:27latest brain
36:27training to
36:28the test.
36:31Chop,
36:31chop,
36:32don't drop.
36:34To win
36:35red brain
36:35belt,
36:36brainies must
36:37remain mentally
36:37confident as
36:38they learn new
36:39physical skill.
36:40Remaining four
36:41must keep ball in
36:42airflow and guide it
36:44along obstacle course,
36:45through hoops and
36:47into basket.
36:48It is race against
36:49clock but brainies
36:50must remain confident.
36:52There is five second
36:53penalty every time
36:54ball drops.
36:55Brainy with slowest
36:56time will be
36:57eliminated.
36:59The tip for my
37:00brainies in this
37:01next task is to
37:03remain calm and
37:04think positive
37:05thoughts.
37:06Giving in to
37:07frustration will
37:08only lessen their
37:09focus and slow
37:10them up.
37:16So can our
37:17brainies stay
37:18positive or will
37:19they let the
37:19pressure get to
37:20them?
37:21First to go with
37:22the floor is
37:22Abel Alex who
37:23immediately runs
37:24into a spot of
37:25bother.
37:26Not the most
37:27focused during
37:28training, can he
37:29keep it together
37:30now?
37:35Little by little
37:36Alex's confidence
37:37starts to grow.
37:42Nicely through the
37:43slalom.
37:46And that's a
37:46strong finish.
37:50Next up is Big
37:51Elliot looking as
37:52cool as a kimono
37:53in a heatwave.
37:56And despite a
37:57little lapse in
37:58concentration there,
37:59this looks to me
38:00like a brainy who's
38:01got both the
38:02thinking part and
38:03the doing part of
38:04his brain to work
38:05in perfect harmony.
38:12A slam dunk of the
38:13basket and Big
38:14Elliot finishes with
38:15a flourish.
38:15fish.
38:19It's now careful
38:21Cara's turn.
38:22But no matter how
38:23careful she's trying
38:24to be, Cara just
38:25can't get going.
38:26That ball refusing to
38:28do is it's
38:28tall.
38:30Come on, Cara,
38:31stay confident.
38:38That's better.
38:42And a basket and
38:43one stops the
38:44clock, but will
38:45her slow start
38:46have cost her
38:46dear?
38:49Finally, it's
38:50Jackie's turn, who
38:51sets off like a
38:52bullet train, only
38:53to come unstuck.
38:57Eventually, though,
38:57her training kicks
38:58in, gently does it
39:00through the slalom,
39:00and now all that
39:01stands between
39:02gentle Jackie and
39:03that gong is the
39:04basket.
39:09But, oh, no, a
39:10ball appears to
39:11have a mind of
39:12its own.
39:12Come on, girl.
39:15Oh, yes, get
39:16in.
39:19So, which
39:20brainy flowed too
39:21slow?
39:23With five time
39:24penalties, Alex
39:25completed the course
39:26in one minute,
39:2719 seconds.
39:31With just one
39:32penalty to add on,
39:33Big Elliot finished
39:34in a quick fire
39:3548 seconds.
39:39With six time
39:40penalties, Careful
39:41Cara stopped the
39:42clock in one minute
39:4325.
39:47While gentle
39:48Jackie, despite
39:49picking up four
39:50penalties, got
39:50round in one
39:51minute 13.
39:54Which means that
39:55it's Careful
39:55Cara who's
39:56eliminated and
39:57must now leave
39:58the dojo.
40:06Walk of eternal
40:08regret.
40:10After the
40:10brain training, I
40:11wasn't sure how I was
40:12going to do in the
40:13task because I did
40:14find the brain training
40:15a little bit
40:15difficult.
40:16I'm feeling very
40:18upset because to go,
40:20to be like one of the
40:21last four and then to
40:22lose is really hard.
40:28So with just two
40:29levels left, that
40:30leaves Alex, Elliot
40:31and Jackie to
40:33stand tall in red.
40:35I'm really proud of
40:36myself because no one
40:37else got under a
40:38minute so I think I'm
40:39going really strong in
40:40the task so it gave me
40:41confidence.
40:42Now I think I can make
40:44it all the way to the
40:44black belt and win.
40:45I think now that I've
40:46got this far, I'll
40:47probably be going out
40:49in the next round.
40:50I just pulled through
40:52by a hair.
40:53So I'm lucky and I
40:55think I did okay.
40:57And I'm going to try my
40:58best for the next tasks
40:59to come.
41:02Brain T2!
41:05Level 6.
41:07Roll Bout!
41:09It's this level which
41:10will decide which two
41:12of my remaining
41:13brainies will go on to
41:15battle it out for the
41:16black belt.
41:18Now imagine you're in
41:20your school play.
41:21As well as lines to
41:22remember and moving
41:23around on stage, there's
41:25also the audience
41:26watching you.
41:27It's remembering stuff
41:28under pressure like
41:29this that level 6 is
41:31all about.
41:33It centres around
41:35three areas of the
41:36brain.
41:37The seeing part, the
41:38occipital lobes, the
41:40memory part, the
41:41temporal lobes and the
41:43movement part.
41:44the cerebellum, to the
41:47max.
41:48Room of mental
41:50nourishment.
41:54Our three surviving
41:56brainies are back in the
41:57room of mental
41:57nourishment for a bit of
41:58memory training.
42:02memorise the sequence of
42:03objects.
42:04I suck at memory
42:05stuff.
42:06I like memory
42:07stuff.
42:07It'll be hard.
42:08I can't scream.
42:09Elliot, embrace it so
42:11there's no such word as
42:12camp.
42:12I can't remember stuff.
42:14I can't remember stuff.
42:15I can't remember stuff.
42:16Look at all.
42:17I'm not surprised, Alex, if
42:18that's your approach.
42:20Well, I can go first if you
42:22want.
42:23Cabbage.
42:24Croc.
42:25Hammer.
42:26Eiffel Tower with weird
42:27eyebally thing.
42:28Monster arm.
42:31Glasses.
42:32Duck.
42:33Frog on toilet.
42:35Gnome with fried egg.
42:36Messed out a few.
42:37Wow.
42:38Oh, right, yeah.
42:40Not bad for someone who
42:41can't remember stuff.
42:42Time for a brain tip.
42:45Tip.
42:46Create a story linking the
42:48objects together.
42:49We started at the...
42:50Memory tests like this are
42:51a great way of training
42:52your brain.
42:53Why not create a story to
42:55memorise all your classmates
42:56in alphabetical order?
42:58Um, rang the doorbell.
43:00And then a big floating
43:01monster arm came and
43:03dropped the...
43:03Reached out.
43:04The fog was in the
43:05toilet because the rat was
43:07the fog's son.
43:07It went to the toilet.
43:08Yes.
43:09And a croc came and
43:10ate it.
43:11Yeah, then cabbages took
43:12over the world.
43:13Yeah.
43:13So, uh, who's gonna go
43:15first?
43:16I'll go first.
43:16Okey-dokey.
43:17Anne, you can go first.
43:18Okay, so Gnome with
43:19fried egg.
43:20And then the rat tried
43:22to get it off.
43:24So he went and got some
43:25bananas.
43:26Then, I think, a wizard,
43:27he rang the doorbell and
43:29the giant chicken followed
43:31him in.
43:31And then he caught his
43:32head in some giant
43:34scissors.
43:34He went to the bathroom,
43:36but a frog was on the
43:37toilet.
43:38And the rat said,
43:39go get the bananas from
43:41my wife, the duck.
43:42The duck was in the
43:43garden with sunglasses on
43:46her head.
43:47Then a giant monster arm
43:48and dropped the Eiffel
43:49Tower with an eye on it.
43:51Then a giant hammer
43:53smushed the eyeball.
43:54A croc came and ate it
43:55and then cabbages took
43:56over the world.
43:57Yay!
43:59I'm guessing it will be a
44:00memory task.
44:01And if it is, I'm guessing
44:03that we'll probably have
44:04limited time.
44:05So I think I'll try and
44:06make a story, but I'll try
44:08and make it a bit shorter.
44:09Elliot might be just a
44:11teeny, teeny bit better
44:12than Jackie, but I think
44:13you're pretty much even.
44:15Well, I guess we'll see
44:16what happens then, Alex,
44:17yeah?
44:18Because it's all down to
44:20the task.
44:20So can gentle Jackie take
44:22her impressive form back
44:24into the dojo?
44:25Or will it be the boys
44:26who come out on top?
44:28Only time will tell as
44:30our final three put their
44:31memory train into the test
44:32for one of two brown
44:34brain belts and a place on
44:35the table of supreme focus.
44:38Super Memory Dizzy Dance
44:41Each brainy is spun round
44:43on dizzy wheel a total of
44:45ten times.
44:46Their task to use all their
44:48power of focus to memorise
44:50five images in front of
44:52them.
44:53Then race against clock to
44:55cross balancing beam and
44:56collect same five images
44:58from ten hanging above them.
45:02Then must arrange images in
45:04reverse order.
45:07When they are happy with
45:08their selection, a hit of
45:10gong stops clock.
45:15My tip for the brainy's is
45:17to keep focused on the main
45:19objective and use their
45:21training to link the five
45:22images together.
45:25So, our final three braved
45:27the dizzy wheel to compete
45:29for their brown brain belt.
45:30And a place on the table of
45:31supreme focus.
45:33Hey, time to spin.
45:39Will their memory training
45:40help them to remember the
45:41images and ignore the effects
45:42have been spun round like
45:43clams on a carousel?
45:48First to wobble off is
45:49Abel Alex.
45:52This really is the ultimate
45:53test of memory for our
45:54brainese as they fight their
45:56dizziness to pick out the
45:57five images they saw on the
45:59wheel, arranging them to
46:00turn them in reverse order.
46:03But Alex has found a blue
46:04balloon from somewhere
46:05earning him a five second
46:07penalty.
46:12It's now a race against the
46:14clock to get the cards in the
46:15right order.
46:30There's the gong, but has Alex's
46:33mistake cost him a place in the
46:34final showdown?
46:37Next up is Big Elliot.
46:40Elliot.
46:40And like a rocket-powered
46:41rickshaw, he wastes no time at
46:43all in plucking out those
46:44images.
46:46That's five.
46:51Now all Elliot has to do is
46:53arrange them in the right order.
47:03There's the gong, and that looks like full
47:06marks.
47:09Last but not least is gentle Jackie, as
47:12she remembered her training and
47:13lodged those five images in her
47:15memory.
47:24It might not be speedy, but it's
47:26accurate.
47:35And there's the gong, time for the
47:37results.
47:41With that one penalty to add to his
47:43time of one minute four seconds,
47:45Abel Alex finished in one minute
47:47nine.
47:49With no penalties to his name, Big
47:51Elliot rang his gong in a rapid
47:5348 seconds.
47:55And with no penalties either, gentle
47:58Jackie timed out in one minute two
48:00seconds.
48:02Which means that Elliot and Jackie
48:03remain, and Abel Alex goes out.
48:12Walk of eternal regret.
48:16I think it went wrong because I
48:18remembered a balloon instead of a
48:20bee, but even without that mistake, I
48:22still would have been three seconds
48:23later.
48:24If I was just a bit quicker, I could
48:26have made it, but I didn't.
48:33So with only one level to go, that
48:35leaves just Big Elliot and gentle
48:37Jackie to don their brown brain belt
48:39and prepare for the final showdown.
48:43I'm through.
48:44I can't believe what I was, because at
48:45the very beginning, in the very first
48:47round, I was almost out when it was
48:49Priscilla and I head to head.
48:51And now I'm one away from winning.
48:53I'm happy now because Alex is out because I
48:56thought he was my only competition.
48:59And now because I think I've been doing
49:01better than Jackie, I think I can win the
49:03black belt.
49:03And I'm really excited now.
49:08Brain Jitsu.
49:11Eight young hopeful arrived at brain
49:13training dojo to fight it out for brain
49:16jitsu black brain belt.
49:18As challenges get tougher, Brainy gets fewer.
49:21Some lack concentration.
49:24Others, mental agility.
49:26One by one, they've been eliminated.
49:29Now, just two remain.
49:32Big Elliot, riding high after two wins in a row.
49:35I'm really proud of myself because no one else
49:37got under a minute.
49:39Now I think I can make it all the way to the
49:40black belt and win.
49:42And gentle Jackie, most consistent Brainy.
49:45I feel a bit more confident knowing that I've
49:47prepared because I did most of the tasks.
49:49But who will use brain training to the max
49:52to win final challenge?
49:55Level seven, Black Belt.
49:58So, this is it.
50:01Between my two remaining Brainy's and the black belt
50:04stands Brain Jitsu's ultimate challenge.
50:07A mental duel that is head to head in every sense.
50:11The battlefield?
50:13A table.
50:14But not just any table.
50:16For this, my friends, is the table of supreme focus.
50:20Where our two Brainy's will attempt to move a ball
50:22across the table using only the power of their mind.
50:27By getting this far, they've already demonstrated
50:30mental control under many different types of pressure.
50:33But now, they must learn to focus their minds
50:36by entering a state of total calm.
50:40To prepare them, my two finalists will need to get into
50:43The Zone.
50:45Room of Mental Nourishment.
50:50In this, their final visit to the Room of Mental Nourishment,
50:53our two remaining Brainy's are about to train in how to stay focused
50:57no matter what's happening around them.
51:02Mentally prepare yourself for the final task.
51:05Don't let the sounds put you off.
51:08So, our two finalists must block out the noise and concentrate only on keeping their focus.
51:16While Jackie doesn't seem bothered by the sound of the dentist's drill,
51:20Elliot's not looking quite so comfortable.
51:27In fact, Jackie's so relaxed, she almost nods off.
51:32After a while, I was fine with it. I just laid down and listened to the sounds.
51:36I find it better without them, but with them it's okay.
51:40Sometimes, when I hear, like, white noise like that, sometimes it hypnotises me.
51:45Strange. Really strange.
51:47Yeah. Time for a training tip.
51:49Tip. Repeat three positive statements to yourself.
51:56I'm going to meet Elliot.
51:58I'm not scared of the dentist.
52:00I've gotten this far so I can go another round.
52:02I'm gonna win.
52:03And there's a good chance of me winning.
52:06I know I'm gonna beat Elliot, hopefully.
52:10But I just didn't know what way to put that so he wouldn't be crushed.
52:14Well, I won't be crushed when I beat you.
52:16I think you're the one who's gonna be crushed.
52:19So, can Big Elliot avoid being crushed on the table of Supreme Focus?
52:23Or will gentle Jackie mentally nod off and allow him to grab the prize?
52:27Let's find out.
52:31Table of Supreme Focus.
52:36Rules are simple.
52:38Each brainy must push ball to the opponent's end of table using only power of mind.
52:44Sensors in brainy's headbands measure brainwaves.
52:47This is converted into electrical signal which moves ball.
52:52More focused mind, stronger signal, and faster ball will travel.
52:57See how brainy's are doing on this readout.
53:00Two lines represent each player's brainwaves.
53:03Lower the line, more concentrated their mind.
53:14To make sure this is the test of all tests, our brainy's must win the best of three rounds.
53:21So, this is the big one.
53:23Our two finalists must use all their brain training to enter their zone of absolute focus if they are to
53:29succeed.
53:30This is the reason they came to the dojo.
53:33This is the moment they've been training for.
53:41And it's Jackie who's off to the better start.
53:44You can see from the low black line on the readout that she's just got the mental edge over her
53:49opponent.
53:56And even though Elliot's now beginning to slow the ball down, it's not enough to stop Jackie taking the lead.
54:031-0.
54:07Big Elliot now faces an uphill battle.
54:09Will he remember his training and find his focus?
54:12That pressure's really on.
54:14Round two.
54:20Elliot's now using a different tactic, looking directly at the ball instead of his opponent.
54:28But again, the black line on the readout shows that Jackie's just too strong for him.
54:43Little by little, she's inching that ball towards Elliot, who's powerless to stop her.
54:52It's all over, and it's Jackie who's emerged triumphant.
54:56In an epic battle of concentration and focus, her training has paid off.
55:00Gentle Jackie truly has proved herself to be a master of the mind,
55:04and worthy winner of the Brain Jitsu black belt.
55:08Winning the black belt means loads to me.
55:10Because I honestly never thought I would get it when I came.
55:16But glory for one brings disappointment for another.
55:19And although he fought valiantly, Big Elliot must now leave the dojo.
55:26Walk of eternal regret.
55:29I'm feeling crushed, because I got so far, and I got into the final, but to fail right at the
55:37last minute, it feels really bad.
55:40Jackie, I think she did deserve the win.
55:46For Jackie, her journey to mental mastery is over.
55:50Up against the toughest of competitors in Big Elliot, she refused to give way.
55:55When it really mattered, it was gentle Jackie who was able to call on all her training and grab that
56:01black brain belt.
56:02Yay! Yay!
56:05I just sat there, and I tried to be very calm, very relaxed.
56:10I just breathed in, and I breathed out very heavily.
56:12And then I noticed that that moved the ball quite a bit, so I kept doing that.
56:17And I kept going...
56:19And it really worked, and I was just really glad that I won both rounds.
56:23Our journey has come to an end.
56:25Another brainy has proven themselves worthy to wear the Brain Jitsu black belt.
56:30But while Brain Jitsu might represent the most extreme form of brain training,
56:36its philosophy can be shared by all.
56:40Each and every one of you has it in your power to grow your mind.
56:44All it takes is dedication and practice.
56:48This has been...
56:51Brain Jitsu!
