00:00:00good afternoon good evening or good morning depending on where you are in the world
00:00:03we'd like to continue our middle game series and this is part two before i start we'd like to thank
00:00:10all the people watching this live on facebook i do appreciate it so if you haven't seen part one
00:00:18i recommend you watch part one middle game series i'm going to be going through a certain amount of
00:00:24the middle game the the i went through the end game already basically just give you some critical
00:00:32positions and give you some critical positions for the middle game how to play it in terms of
00:00:38calculation the tactical awareness calculation and positional themes so i've got two games i want to
00:00:47go over now this one is between uh solomon floor and rudolph petchalk to check and this was uh beelin
00:00:58in
00:00:581930. so when we start the game uh this is uh from black's point of view so he started d4
00:01:06black played
00:01:07knight of six now the thing about this i won't go too much in the opening but as d4 you
00:01:12basically
00:01:13there's other transpositions you can play nice c6 you can play e6 knight of six or g6 the idea with
00:01:19knight of six here is an active move we're developing a piece same what same time we are preventing e4
00:01:27okay so just do that knight of three you're going to play e6 now the idea with e6 is we're
00:01:33getting play
00:01:33onto the d5 square to stop the d5 pawn push and also let's the bishop come out so after e6
00:01:419b d2
00:01:42we play c5 now the idea is we want he wants to hit d4 square and he wants to you
00:01:51know such as uh delay
00:01:53the d pawn going forward and give it the option of playing one or two squares but we immediately like
00:01:58to hit the d4 square so after e3 he plays b6 okay so when you're playing let's say you're playing
00:02:10uh you want when you get in a critical position you want to pause and make sure i'm not going
00:02:15to
00:02:15talk about theory but just make sure that your move order is correct so when he plays b6 you just
00:02:22make
00:02:22sure okay play b6 is everything guarded okay so he plays b6 now you see with b6 is the the
00:02:31point behind
00:02:31it is either to play bishop a6 or bishop b7 bishop b7 has more squares on the b7 to f3
00:02:39diagonal versus
00:02:40well a6 also has good scores but just immediate trading off versus bishop b7 is i have the full
00:02:46scope and i have long-term pressure so after bishop d3 and bishop b7 they're both fighting for control of
00:02:53e4 so in the middle game e4 and uh it's going to be a main square also d4 black will
00:03:01probably trade it
00:03:02off or wait for white to trade it off but uh more immediately there's going to be a fight for
00:03:10the e4
00:03:11square so after castle this should be seven now we could play d5 here but we see we're a little
00:03:18bit
00:03:19um i'm going to say a little bit behind development in the sense that where the king is still in
00:03:23the
00:03:24center so he i say he plays bishop e7 c4 and castle now here's where we enter the uh the
00:03:33middle game now
00:03:34is we've both castled got most of our pieces out from here notice white plays b3 okay because we're
00:03:43looking at this from black's point of view we want to make sure we have the correct planning here
00:03:49what we want to do is we want to prevent e4 being from being played okay so let's see this
00:03:55e pawn
00:03:55moving up one square so what he does is he plays d5 and then here white will place queen to
00:04:04c2
00:04:05still trying to get the e4 break in and then knight c6 notice here is when we count one two
00:04:12three squares we
00:04:13have one two we have the bishop for three now with the knight being on c6 you need to develop
00:04:19a last
00:04:19piece we're hitting the pawn a second time also there is this idea of playing knight to b4 so of
00:04:26course he plays a3 now this is a critical point of course for white where he would pause a moment
00:04:32and
00:04:32say okay i see black's threat playing night before hitting both the bishop and the queen we basically have
00:04:38to waste the temple just to lose the bishop so he prevents that then what black does he says okay
00:04:47actually let's do this
00:04:54at this point you notice that you don't have knight b4 you need to keep playing into the center
00:05:00so we have to look at our options middle game we have to look at our options what we want
00:05:05to do is
00:05:06connect the rooks but also we want to be tactically sharp to be able to see what opportunities are
00:05:11available at the particular time so we're going to be hitting the d4 pawn twice as we have the knight
00:05:20and the c pawn hitting the pawn on d4 twice what we need to do is calculate now if i
00:05:27play queen to c7 with
00:05:29the idea of playing e5 to hit it twice oh basically you're thinking okay queen c7 and e5
00:05:36but after queen c7 if he takes is this good for us well bishop takes and b4 and possibly b5
00:05:43no b6 possibly
00:05:45well he's still going to play b4 so it's possible what he did was to play c takes t so
00:05:54what i'm going to
00:05:55suggest is you what you do before you look at the engine is look at a couple possibilities so one
00:06:02is rook to
00:06:03c8 second is queen to c7 the third is is because there's no checks of the king so basically the
00:06:12immediate considerations we look at checks of the king first there is none captures the r and also
00:06:20positional things like can we get we can put a piece into position to play e5 to hit the d
00:06:26pawn again
00:06:27or does rook c8 a little bit longer where we put the rook on the same file as the queen
00:06:34but we do notice that after rook c8 we still need to be able to play pawn takes we still
00:06:39need to move
00:06:39the knight so it's going to take a couple moves anyway then our final option is to play c takes
00:06:45d
00:06:46what you want to do is after you decided okay i'm going to play c takes d you want to
00:06:50go a sufficient
00:06:51amount of moves forward before you come to a conclusion once you've come to a conclusion you
00:06:56don't have to keep calculating so after c takes d4 he plays c takes d5 notice the difference here is
00:07:04when
00:07:04white is took the d pawn it's actually hitting your knight so you have to respond now when we decide
00:07:10how
00:07:10we're going to respond we have a couple options we can think with the knight right play knight d5 that's
00:07:18one
00:07:19option we have the e pawn okay the problem with the e pawn here when we look at our options
00:07:27is the e pawn
00:07:28after he takes back this is going to be an isolated pawn
00:07:32our third uh also of course the bishop's uh excuse me the pawn is going to be in the way
00:07:37of the bishop
00:07:39but the plus would be of course that we're covering the square which he can push it anyway
00:07:45so what he played at this point was he played queen takes d5 so what we would do is we
00:07:51say okay
00:07:51after queen takes what we would do is we look at force exchanges and then after the exchange which one
00:07:59is better so let's say queen takes d5 e takes d4 knight takes d4 queen to b1 okay notice here
00:08:09black
00:08:10actually won a pawn because it was supported by the queen that was the plus of it so when we
00:08:16look
00:08:16at this position we say okay is this better than if i were to have played for example knight takes
00:08:21d5
00:08:22right um let's see knight takes d5 we could play knight takes d4 oh yeah knight takes d4 and then
00:08:32we can
00:08:33play rook c8 okay so we compare this position to this position and ask yourself which one is better so
00:08:45we what we're gonna do is we're just gonna ask to trust the engine what he thinks it's saying black's
00:08:52actually winning well it's slightly superficial because we're just going to be down a pawn however
00:08:56there's some merits to it or the queen seems to be seems to be slightly misplaced as in when he
00:09:03played b3 if we go back strategically when he played b3 right and d5 uh he could have took earlier
00:09:12or just followed up with playing bishop to b2 followed by the rook going on c1 contested the file
00:09:19so he didn't play that queen c2 might have been a little premature yeah the engine does confirm that
00:09:26okay that was what i'm thinking because you see the purpose of b3 was to play bishop to b2 and
00:09:31which of
00:09:31course the engine does agree also of course d takes c is what i was saying earlier but anyway
00:09:38if we look at rook after knight takes d5 by takes d4 rook to c8 we see black is winning
00:09:45now let's look
00:09:45at the position after knight takes d4 black is also winning but the question is which position is better
00:09:52well all right we have when we look at it we look at the five factors of assessing the position
00:09:59so first is material who has more material okay black isn't pawn up six pawns against five without
00:10:06everything else being equal uh more space there's not really so much more space it's not a factor king
00:10:14safety there was a combination winning the pawn all right so we might say that that after knight takes
00:10:24d4 is a little better after e takes d5 white take can take with the pawn or of course you
00:10:32can take with
00:10:32a knight after knight takes not quite as good because also he'll be saddled with a isolated pawn as well
00:10:41knight takes knight takes d4 knight takes d4 and e takes d4 and then what we can do is
00:10:50we can play queen to c8 now what does queen c8 do okay hits the queen well also supporting the
00:10:58queen from
00:10:58coming out then going to g4 so he plays queen takes c8 rook on f notice they both can go
00:11:09to c8 so we
00:11:09specify which file and takes on c8 now the thing about this is the rook on f8 it's gonna it's
00:11:17gonna have
00:11:18to move out of the way anyway so where the where the rook is on a8 it's okay for the
00:11:24time being
00:11:25rook e1 okay bishop f8 notice the bishop comes out what we can do is play g6 bishop g7 and
00:11:34play along the
00:11:35g7 the d4 diagonal bishop b2 g6 as i'm wait yeah g6 as i mentioned because there's a pawn on
00:11:44d4 so i can't take
00:11:45it rook ac1 and then we can play or even bishop h6 though and bishop h6 is interesting because
00:11:57we have the knight pinned now because the bit of the pawns already guarded on on d4 it's not quite
00:12:05as
00:12:05effective but when we have a pin here that's very good so when we look at this right and so
00:12:10we see
00:12:12um that instead of knight takes d4 e takes d4 is better and then we just continue we want to
00:12:20control
00:12:20the e file well we have c and e but we want to control the e4 square that's on the
00:12:25e file
00:12:26bishop e2 and then rook to c8 just to bring the other one notice with rook c8 it's on the
00:12:32same file as
00:12:32the queen and we have the discover attack with knight takes d4 which should actually discover double attack
00:12:37on the queen which should be quite devastating and he plays queen d1 and then of course bishop d6 comes
00:12:44out we've got equal play on e5 um there's nothing to be pushed on e4 core the engine is it's
00:12:51i don't
00:12:52know if i would say it's equal but maybe equal chances because we've got a good bishop on b2 we've
00:12:57got good
00:12:58bishops coming out and so it's not going to be so easy for black or white to win this game
00:13:05but inside of black plays queen takes d5 e takes d4 knight takes d4 notice here is that
00:13:14actually with queen takes d5 notice where when we took back right it's supported a second time
00:13:23so when he takes it's only going to be for him supported once he takes d and then we played
00:13:29knight
00:13:29takes d hitting the queen so here we have queen to b1 right problem with queen b1 is that we're
00:13:39blocking the rook from coming out we don't have our bishop out so this is a problem notice here when
00:13:44this bishop not coming out it's also to have the rooks disconnected and so better actually is to try to
00:13:50centralize the queen while we're actually going forward with queen to c4 okay we can play knight
00:13:59f3 check that's true notice we the queen on c4 is guarded by both the bishop and the pawn
00:14:05after knight takes f3 work on f to d8 and we're hitting the bishop twice queen takes d5
00:14:14queen takes d5
00:14:21bishop takes d5 notice here we're also hitting the pawn as well
00:14:27and notice black has a very good position here we got some pressure against the b pawn yes it can
00:14:32move
00:14:33forward but also we're centralizing the piece so notice we're moving forward with that
00:14:37so queen c4 would have been better um engineering claims black is still winning um he's still a pawn
00:14:44up so there is something to be said about that one thing you'll have to take with a grain of
00:14:50salt with
00:14:50the chess engine is that it one of its greatest factors it has besides the combination is material so
00:14:57it's slightly superficial but not completely so after queen to b1 rook fd8 notice we're
00:15:04we're playing on the d file here notice with if you put play the rook on e8 there's nothing there's
00:15:10no
00:15:10scope with the rook but there is scope on the rook with d8 so that's why you put it there
00:15:14knight e1 now here's a little bit of a problem here okay yeah all right knight e1 does defend the
00:15:23bishop
00:15:25right problem with this position is white's pieces are very awkwardly placed what should have done was
00:15:32continue with the same plan and playing rook e1 and then when when he gets attacked
00:15:39right uh sorry after this point
00:15:44if he already had the rook on e1 well actually excuse me he can still do that well it's
00:15:53yeah yeah because what we have is knight takes f3 check followed by queen takes bishop
00:15:57the idea is if you already had the rook on e1 you would be able to play bishop to f1
00:16:03and then we can re-maneuver and get the bishop over to g2 etc but white's pieces are a little
00:16:09bit
00:16:09clumsily placed see what happens is before you play the queen on c2 you need to make sure is that
00:16:16the
00:16:16right square you know black would like to play rook on c8 so you probably don't want to do that
00:16:21so early
00:16:24when you're playing a move you want to follow up with its follow-up move
00:16:28so for example b3 while you're playing b3 to get the bishop out yes it's supporting the pawn on c4
00:16:34earlier but you want to get the bishop out to b2
00:16:3991 queen h5 now here's another critical situation you can see you can see that black is quite a bit
00:16:49better because he's got more control central uh control and he's a pawn up so you could argue maybe
00:16:55winning after queen h5 we what do we see well we see we're going to control the e2 square
00:17:02also we see that he wants to he's moving the queen over to h5 to attack the pawn on h2
00:17:09and then we can follow up with bishop on d6 notice both bishops are all trained to open um
00:17:16yes we could play queen to g5 instead that's true
00:17:25queen g5 queen g5 with threatened mate that's true
00:17:31problem with queen yeah problem queen g5 is we have knight of three not only blocks they attack
00:17:37but also we have an uncovered double attack against the queen because we let the bishop out to attack
00:17:44it plus also of course the knight would be attacking it so it'd be doing both things at the same
00:17:48time so
00:17:50normally i would say queen g5 but queen h5 is a preparatory move after bishop to b2
00:17:57here uh so point and play bishop b2 it's kind of too little too late because the fact that
00:18:04um you're you have to defend the pieces are disjuncted here because they're not going to defend on these
00:18:11key squares h2 and g2 notice where the bishops are pointing towards is where we have to somehow block
00:18:18uh so it's even possible maybe to play g3 followed by knight g2 things like that
00:18:27but not so easy also um because also we're going to have a hole on f3 very difficult
00:18:34bishop d6 nice move nice move bishop d6
00:18:39wait yeah yeah another nice move so we see where the queen's going we have to follow it up with
00:18:46another piece attacking so we play bishop d6 okay threatens immediate mate on on h2 we play g3
00:18:55and then knight g4 why we're adding a third attacker okay here after g3 we block the mate but also
00:19:04knight g4 we we also threaten mate as well on h on h2 as well
00:19:11so when we do that we say okay how can we bring another piece of the attack
00:19:15knight to g4 okay so then then the question becomes again how does he defend against the mate on h2
00:19:25well we have to bring a knight over there there's no other piece to go there so either we would
00:19:30play
00:19:30yeah knight on e to f3 see this this is the worst place piece that's the one you want to
00:19:37move over
00:19:38and then uh we can play knight takes you'll play knight takes and we'll play bishop takes
00:19:46actually that's winning we're up a piece
00:19:49uh what we're doing is just delaying inevitable um after h3 uh queen takes h3 we still got either
00:19:58mate on g2 h1 or h2 and of course here um blacks just simply there's no way to avoid the
00:20:06mate
00:20:07without giving up material so for example he can just win he can just play bishop takes h7 to give
00:20:13up the bishop we don't care about that right we just we could take with we don't want to trade
00:20:19queens
00:20:19here so we just move the king over bishop takes g7 and we go over again amazingly
00:20:33the idea is if we take now he has the queen coming in for check and some little tricks so
00:20:38we just move a king over again
00:20:42and then there what else is there left there's no more checks there's no more nothing
00:20:47so any other move any random move a4 b4 we just have the queen on h4 h1 for mate so
00:20:54we can see
00:20:55that's just an inevitable mate on h1 or 8 g2 or h2 there's three squares they have mate on so
00:21:03it's
00:21:03a very powerful attack and then he plays h4 thinking he's going to block it now i'm going to pause
00:21:10a moment
00:21:13and do you see without looking at the moves here do you see this idea why queen takes h4 works
00:21:23what's the follow-up so queen takes h4 works because why so in other words we play queen takes h4
00:21:34we're going to threaten the mate on h2 or h1 for that matter so let's say um we have the
00:21:46same thing
00:21:46again if you move either knight to f3 we take take back bishop takes same thing again okay notice both
00:21:55all pieces are pointing at the king side it's extremely powerful here so do you see the idea
00:22:04okay i'm going to show you i'm just going to put white resigns and i'll show you why
00:22:13oops sorry
00:22:19now play could have continued
00:22:25play could continued she dates h4 you say well get rid of the piece
00:22:30but then what you want to say see is is there any checks there are on h2 so we play
00:22:37bishop takes h2
00:22:38guess what that is that's a mate why he has no other square to go to can't go to g
00:22:44h1 and can go to g2
00:22:46that's going to be a mate notice that the bishop cannot be taken because the knight is guardian on g4
00:22:52and that's
00:22:53simply made okay also of course you as i said before there was a threat on h2 and then there's
00:23:01also a threat on h1 okay so even if he somehow defended you also have to be concerned about a
00:23:07possible mate on g2 as well but immediately made on h2 with the knight or the mate on h1 with
00:23:14the bishop
00:23:15so you can see that now let's go over some key points for the game black played for an immediate
00:23:21development with knight f6 this is a flexible approach then he put it move this pawn up to
00:23:28to secure d5 then hit the pawn on d4 then play b6 remember the play of the idea behind b6
00:23:37yes it defends
00:23:38the pawn on c5 but the larger idea is that get the bishop out usually the b7 and not so
00:23:46much a6 because
00:23:46it's a simple trade and then black's left with some holes around on the queen side structure so
00:23:54after bishop d3 and bishop e7 castle bishop and then he played the bishop on e7 this is an unusual
00:24:02case
00:24:02because normally black would play his pawn up over to d5 and after c4 castle b3 then after we play
00:24:11b3
00:24:12he committed to playing d5 it's a move order issue but that's what it is when your opponent
00:24:19doesn't develop all your pieces what you do on the opposing side is you you want to look is there
00:24:25a
00:24:25tactic and also like this what we want to do is develop more pieces if there isn't a tactic
00:24:31to increase our advantage notice after nine to c6 here we were we had threats when we
00:24:38were ahead in development we had some threats on d4 we're also attacking on d4
00:24:45now we had the force he had the foresight to take on d4 so you see that right okay
00:24:56now what we want to do is long term is because he's going to take on d5 at some point
00:25:02more than
00:25:03likely we want to isolate after the exchange isolate the pawn on d4 as a long-term weakness
00:25:09with the isolated pawn now it can be a strength if you can hold the pawn there and maintain more
00:25:16space
00:25:16and then centralize a piece on e5 but in this case that's not not what happened so after he took
00:25:23back as you can see you notice white's drawback is that the queen's going to be not only have we
00:25:28not
00:25:28he didn't bring out his bishop but his queen it's going to be exposed to work going on c8 so
00:25:34he took
00:25:34back here remember i told you in critical positions when he takes back you have to consider can i take
00:25:41back
00:25:42also what is his threat by playing c takes d5 what's hitting my knight so we have to reply remember
00:25:49i showed you we have to look at some major possibilities we can take with the knight
00:25:53we can take with the pawn with the ways to take back or with the queen so when we take
00:26:00with the
00:26:00queen just have to be careful with this idea of bishop to c4 apparently i think we we could play
00:26:07like
00:26:07a queen h5 and then after queen h5 we probably played like knight a5 things like that i believe
00:26:16i'd have to double check that so after bishop to c4 as an alternative alternate move here let's double
00:26:28check because i believe i played queen h5 followed by knight a5 oh queen d6 actually that's also a solid
00:26:36move here because it does guard that pawn a second time that's true i was thinking more along the
00:26:42lines of being able to play queen h5 and bishop d6 but um yeah a bishop b2 coming out hitting
00:26:51this a
00:26:51third time and of course we're going to be a pawn up after d takes e notice after he takes
00:26:56back on the
00:26:57f pawn he's got an isolated pawn now that's a plus and a minus now the plus for that is
00:27:03we got he's
00:27:03opened a half open file with his rook and also he could uh he could play a knight over on
00:27:09d4 and and
00:27:11have some an outpost on d4 that's possible yes knight 85 as i was saying here we're going to hit
00:27:18the bishop bishop has to move back right so this is the awkwardness of that you see so for example
00:27:28bishop
00:27:29let's say he plays bishop d3 which is what the engine was considering notice black white wants
00:27:35to play bishop takes b2 followed by bishop takes h7 check so we're going to immediately hit the queen
00:27:42right because now bishop f6 doesn't work because we take the queen and then of course after queen to b1
00:27:48or queen d1 that it makes it disconnects the rooks and that's the major and then we play it out
00:27:55and then
00:27:56you compare it with black's last move rook f to d8 and say let's compare the two moves which one
00:28:01you
00:28:01think is better well black has more central control black has more material so that's two uh two factors
00:28:11of out of the five factors of assessing a position that black has an advantage also there's this pawn on
00:28:17on b3 to look at and with the rooks disconnected long term that may be an issue in terms of
00:28:24defending over
00:28:25on the queen side where um the rook on a1 is not doing much we do have good bishops that's
00:28:31for sure
00:28:32and slightly and we have a half open file for rook on f1 so that's good as well so
00:28:39objectively e takes d4 and when we have this remember when we have this what we want to do is
00:28:45look at
00:28:46if there's a combination there was a combination knight takes d4 why because the pawns only guarded
00:28:53once and black has attacked it twice so what happens is after knight takes d4 right
00:29:02if white plays knight takes d4 queen takes d4 you um this bishop h7 doesn't do anything because after
00:29:09knight takes h7 there's nothing you can't take the queen on e5 okay so so then what we do we
00:29:18just
00:29:18centralize okay at some point he will hit the queen now with queen takes d5 also with all with all
00:29:27this of
00:29:27course uh sorry queen knight knight okay queen b so we played excuse me queen takes d5 notice with this
00:29:39knight out of the way uh we would be attacking on this diagonal on the d5 to g2 diagonal
00:29:46and so when you took back you took back in queen b1 black just increases the pressure on the d
00:29:52file
00:29:53so he has the threats on the d file and on this long diagonal and after 91 this is where
00:29:58we
00:29:59this is where it's very painful here because i think even 92 something to consider
00:30:07but a problem with 92 is he still has so he's defended g2 with the knight on e1
00:30:16so what we want to do is to say okay he has it defended let's bring our queen over to
00:30:21a more
00:30:21effective square so we brought over to h5 remember not g5 because the knight can move up for discovered
00:30:28double attack on the queen so we we just played our bishop on d6 then we brought another piece
00:30:36we see blocked with g3 brought another piece and then because we have both bishops pointing towards
00:30:43the king's side and we have a hole on g2 and f3 um that's we have everything pointing towards that
00:30:49and then we bring another piece on g4 and notice that this is winning after h4 black simply takes it
00:30:56and i showed you after g takes you just give me so the idea is we want to centralize all
00:31:04of our pieces
00:31:05we want to uh control address the issue of e4 with d5 get the rest of our pieces out trade
00:31:15when it when
00:31:16it makes the most sense because notice that uh we want to be able to play into the center with
00:31:21c takes d
00:31:22then when he takes took back right so for example here let's say he this is the other option is
00:31:31he
00:31:32could have took him back with his e pawn okay
00:31:37this is where we're going to open it up with d takes c because we're going to hit the pawn
00:31:41a second
00:31:42time same idea after knight takes c4 you see knight takes d4 and we win we're going to win the
00:31:49pawn that
00:31:49way as well and also of course we like to also play rook to c8 so after knight takes d4
00:31:55queen takes
00:31:55d4 right we want to play this f rook on d8 because we like to get this rook see the
00:32:02rook on on a can go
00:32:03to b8 or keep on a8 versus it's clear that one of these rooks should go on d8 but then
00:32:10this rook on on
00:32:12f8 won't do anything plus when we move the rook to d8 the f rook on d8 we have the
00:32:17option of playing the
00:32:18bishop back on f8 which would be a better option so even after bishop b2 here uh b2 we have
00:32:25a queen
00:32:26g4 we're threatening mate knight e3 attacking and defending and then queen f4 notice we're going to
00:32:34follow up with queen to d6 so this is a lot better defense so with he playing queen e2 and
00:32:40even now
00:32:41see now first we're threatening mate and now we're also playing on the on the uh d file rook fd1
00:32:48bishop d6 notice we're threatening mate so we're transposing back into it the same sort of idea
00:32:55and white's development has come too too late so after knight f1 right queen g5 and then what we're going
00:33:06to do is we're going to all then we're going to target the other one what we want to do
00:33:10is incur a
00:33:11weakness on uh because we want the pawn to move forward so we have a hole on either h3 h3
00:33:18and f3 etc so
00:33:20that's what that one is now
00:33:24let's go to our next game
00:33:32let's turn this off for now
00:33:36so in this game i'm going to swap the board because for instructional purposes because this was a what
00:33:44this is the instructor from white's point of view right yep that's correct
00:33:52now i'm just going to show you i'm not going to talk about openings so um with this we have
00:33:58a game
00:33:59between joseph dobius and jerry porgenoi from prague of 1952 and of course white won but the point is not
00:34:07that he won or lost it's a matter of what can be learned from the game so after e4 e6
00:34:12d4 d5 knight c3
00:34:14d takes knight takes knight d7 knight f3 and bishop e7 white then plays bishop d3
00:34:21i want to finish that last piece so we can castle we have scope with the bishop pointing towards d3
00:34:28all the way to h7 knight knight at g to f6 because both the d knight and the g knight
00:34:35can both go to
00:34:36f6 so we move the one that hasn't been developed to f6 queen e2 notice we're over defending the knight
00:34:43on
00:34:43e4 then black castles okay notice here black is going oh excuse me okay excuse me sorry notice
00:34:54here after castles and castles doesn't seem like a whole lot's going on right but if when we look
00:35:01at the position here objectively right of course we have options okay we could play the bishop out or the
00:35:08castle when we look at the situation now what we want to say is what would have the greatest effect
00:35:15positive effect for in our position if we play bishop g5 for example right
00:35:22well our king is still in the center and then there's moves like knight d5 right and then he has
00:35:29to trade off the bishop what he wants to do long term is he wants to use both bishops against
00:35:35the king
00:35:36so we have the bishop on d3 aiming all the way to h7 and we have the bishop on c1
00:35:42aiming all going all
00:35:44the way to h6 so we notice we're playing one move for the purpose of the next now he did
00:35:52play queen e2
00:35:53and queen e2 does over defend that so it is a slight uh move order with queen e2 etc but
00:36:02it is standard because we're over defending that bishop a lot of times just in case the bishop has to
00:36:09move um back let's say this um somewhere else we still haven't guarded so but anyway in this position
00:36:17the point is it makes most sense to castle because we're getting our king out of the center we're
00:36:23preparing to play on the e file with rook e1 anyway which would be why we'd play queen e2
00:36:29so if a knight takes queen takes knight f6 here we need to consider remember we have to consider
00:36:37a couple moves well the immediate threat is knight takes queen so we have to move the queen all right
00:36:42we have to consider where is the queen best placed okay if i played back the queen back to e2
00:36:50we really
00:36:50haven't gotten much except for just go back and forth white plays queen h4 now that looks like wow it's
00:36:58on the
00:36:59same diagonal as this bishop and queen how's that any good the threat now is if the knight moves
00:37:04we've got mate on h7 so this is kind of a critical idea it's queen h4 here so b6 and
00:37:13bishop g5 the idea
00:37:15now is we want to remove this knight to have get me on h7 so after g6 blocking that this
00:37:23is where you have
00:37:24to pause a moment and say okay he's prevented the mate on h7 but we want to continue to improve
00:37:30our
00:37:30position well how are we going to improve our position by central control so he plays c4 we can
00:37:37look at some other options like rookie one 95 but we have to look at what the pluses and minuses
00:37:44well
00:37:46they all have their merits but what we don't want is the knight to move out to and to allow
00:37:52him to
00:37:53trade off this bishop um um so c4 gives us more space controls d5 and stops knight d5 okay and
00:38:03actually
00:38:06you can look at what the engine thinks oh actually he doesn't like that he likes the more immediate
00:38:13bishop e4 hitting the okay good but yeah i can see that it's more of a threat bishop e4 um
00:38:23hmm okay yes so hitting the rook going over c4 is also quite decent 95 also as i was looking
00:38:34at it was
00:38:34decent bishop e4 okay okay bishop bishop e4 that's curious so bishop e4
00:38:46h6 h6 h6 no h6 wait what he's suggesting h6 though oh i see because h6 if you take right
00:38:58he's going to play bishop takes e4 right it's on the queen queen goes back to e4 on the i
00:39:06mean
00:39:06on the rook he plays rook b8 and then bishop takes rook bishop takes rook and then we look at
00:39:15the after
00:39:15this exchange as we reassess it how what's the material like well he has two bishops against one
00:39:22knight but i have an extra rook so that's that's uh up for me i've got seven pawns against the
00:39:27six so i've
00:39:31an extra um he lost his rook or i have my rook versus he doesn't so this probably is winning
00:39:3995 is
00:39:40actually thematic because we're bringing another piece into play so yes we could probably continue
00:39:45with 95 being and also of course we're hitting the g6 pawn another time we're going to play rookie one
00:39:52rookie three and rook and rookie already g3 or h3 as part of the plan so of course after 95
00:39:58or even before
00:40:00then um even just after bishop takes f8 that's winning um c4 is okay the computer doesn't like c4 it
00:40:11is decent
00:40:14um it should be four is more critical because you have to look at the immediate so let's say he
00:40:22plays
00:40:22rook b8 instead of h6 i don't like h6 anyway because you're just going to lose the pawn
00:40:26knight e5 like i was saying queen takes d5 okay so i'm playing 95 we have to make sure after
00:40:35knight e5
00:40:36that queen takes d4 is not possible you can play knight c6 now forking the bishop bishop and queen and
00:40:46also rook and queen notice that the bishop on e4 is guarded so let's say he plays queen takes e4
00:40:53now
00:40:54we just play knight takes e7 that's with check okay so we can either get the exchange which is a
00:41:03difference of two points or a full bishop which is which is the full three points that's check
00:41:08king over to g7 then we give
00:41:14bishop takes f6 and main notice he can go to g8 and also the bishop's guarded by my queen and
00:41:22then he
00:41:23can't go over to h8 as well so bishop e4 quite oh i didn't even consider that that's that's pretty
00:41:31amazing
00:41:32okay c4 reasonable very reasonable uh it's saying it's actually saying that this is
00:41:41this isn't as good so i would give it a question mark not really the best move in the position
00:41:46but it has its merits because you're getting more space you're preventing knight d5 so it's more
00:41:53preventative so after bishop b7 d5 notice he has to block this anyway d5 e takes d5 and rook fe1
00:42:02now
00:42:03what we have here after rook fe1 is we're going to attack that the bishop on on e7 so what
00:42:11we could
00:42:12set up is something like rook takes e7 followed by bishop takes f6 queen h6 and queen g7 main
00:42:20what we don't want black to do is to take on it on f3 so that's why you play d5
00:42:25the temporary is sort
00:42:27of a temporary pawn sacrifice and the idea behind this is that we blockade the diagonal
00:42:35and then of course open up the e file but also we're able to get our knight into play so
00:42:40he can't
00:42:41just immediately take it and so d5 d5 is actually pretty interesting e takes d rook yeah we bring
00:42:50the rook in h6 now on the bishop queen takes now here we have to pause a moment we have
00:43:00two options we
00:43:01can take with the queen or the bishop which one you think makes more sense well if we take with
00:43:07the
00:43:08bishop with bishop takes h6 he has a knight coming out with a discovered attack on the queen versus
00:43:15if we take with the queen the bishop is still guarded twice right so we can continue on plus our
00:43:24idea is
00:43:25after queen takes h6 is to get our our bishop on f6 to threaten the mate on g7 so right
00:43:33now cannot they
00:43:34cannot win the knight on f6 but that is the idea so queen takes h6 knight g4 so here we
00:43:42have a
00:43:42discovered attack on the on the queen and we're attacking the queen with 94 so it's a good try but
00:43:46after queen h4 what do we have well he's going to take the bishop but here what we want to
00:43:53make sure
00:43:53is that we take back with the knight and not the queen why what's the difference well we compare the
00:43:58two we take with the queen you can trade it and we're trading queens and we're not really getting
00:44:04anywhere remember something we sacrificed upon on d5 so here we play knight takes g5 and what is our
00:44:11threat our threat is the mate on h7 goes back to f6 to stop the mate on h7 right queen
00:44:20h6 again
00:44:23what we want to do is we've got to reposition the piece because notice we have we have to look
00:44:30at
00:44:30where our pieces are placed our bishop is attacking on g6 we like to coordinate that with the queen being
00:44:36on h6 now so queen h6 d4 and then we have a nice move here
00:44:47our move is rook to e6
00:44:54why do you think it's so good guys first let's look at the threat
00:45:01the threat is to play rook takes knight for one okay let's say let's look at our options let's
00:45:09look at his defensive options you can play f takes east like you can play f takes e6 right
00:45:17right but then what do i do well i've got queen takes g6 check where's he gonna go h8 right
00:45:25and then we
00:45:26have what do we have sorry excuse me queen takes g6 right excuse me yeah queen takes g6 checking h8
00:45:45and
00:45:49oh sweet let's let's double check this because something's a little bit off
00:45:54yeah queen h6 check yes looks like we're wasting a move king g8 yeah
00:46:02h6 check
00:46:03king g8
00:46:06bishop h7 okay sorry excuse me bishop h7 check you say well he can just take right but we need
00:46:13to see
00:46:13what happens after he takes which is i take back with me so rookie six is simply just the idea
00:46:21is
00:46:21removing the card we're going to remove the guarding piece the piece that's guarding h7 that's the idea so
00:46:29f takes e really isn't much queen takes g6 right so we're displacing that
00:46:38to take one of the pawns say okay well pawn for rook doesn't sound much but we have a check
00:46:43and notice we have three pieces
00:46:46aimed at h7 notice with the knight on g7 he can't just play king f7 and get away so
00:46:52king h8 queen h6 like i said
00:46:57because the thing is we want the bishop giving a check so we have to get out of the way
00:47:01of the bishop
00:47:03and notice after king g8 we did give the check right now instead of knight takes h7 he could have
00:47:11played king h8 this is what we have to calculate is king h8 what happens we have bishop f5 check
00:47:21notice we didn't play bishop g6 because it is in the way of the queen just in case he plays
00:47:26king g8
00:47:27which is what he's going to play next anyway then we play the bishop takes e6
00:47:34notice also with f5 it has the vision to see that it could take the pawn and give check so
00:47:40with
00:47:41black's only move is the block with the bishop with the rook and then we take the rook the bishop
00:47:47takes
00:47:47the rook with main so we see this this is the sort of now how would you see this idea
00:47:53well when you
00:47:55how would you see the idea we we have to see the idea by saying okay we want to get
00:47:59rid of the
00:48:00defender on f6 how can we do that all right and then it has to go with our idea of
00:48:07using the queen and
00:48:08the knight to mate on h7 so that's the first thing is we want to remove the defender on f6
00:48:17to mate on h7
00:48:18okay so that's the idea of rookie six that's how you see that now uh we know when we play
00:48:26rookie six
00:48:26though what we want to make sure is that it works so first what we do is look at okay
00:48:32we look at if
00:48:33he takes first that's the most forcing variation is look at taking first right if he takes what happens
00:48:41if he takes and you get this combination like i was showing you that it works then we can play
00:48:48that
00:48:49the only question is after rookie eight now
00:48:55what's what what's white's response going to be okay notice the rook on e8 is also attacking the rook
00:49:02and it's being hit twice both the rook and the pawn on f7
00:49:07okay so notice our knight on f6 is guarded by the queen and then let's say we play something like
00:49:17rook takes knight now uh yeah rook takes that queen h7 and queen of seven mate yeah okay yeah so
00:49:26now if
00:49:27rook takes f rook takes f6 queen takes f6 after queen h7 and king f8 right we don't have queen
00:49:34takes f7
00:49:35because the queen on f6 would be guarding it so rookie a is saying okay i'm attacking your rook twice
00:49:43what
00:49:43are you going to do now this is not an easy move these are not easy moves to see especially
00:49:49rook e6 but
00:49:51what we want to do is remove the support of these this pawn chain while at the same time also
00:49:58threatening
00:49:59give check on h7 so after bishop takes g6 we won't before we do that we have to calculate okay
00:50:06i play
00:50:07bishop g6 now here black resigns right but what i'm going to do is show you why now let's i'm
00:50:15going to show
00:50:20you why so let's say okay so after bishop takes g6 we want to look at the most forcing moves
00:50:31first which
00:50:32is take you can take the piece right let's say he takes the piece going to be similar to last
00:50:37time
00:50:37except our rook is also in play which is even worse in a way so queen takes g6 king h8
00:50:45and then we have
00:50:47knight f7 mate notice when when we took back right and he took right we were able to play knight
00:50:55f takes
00:50:55f7 because now the rook was diverted away from guarding on f7 and knight takes f7 he doesn't have
00:51:02anywhere to go besides it is a fork but it is a mate which is a the best move on
00:51:07the board
00:51:09now so uh so after bishop takes g6 if you were to take queen takes and of course as we
00:51:16showed you
00:51:17there's also king f8 at this point instead of king h8 and then we have mate on f7 instead
00:51:26so we look at it both ways one you can either mate on h8 or f we can either meet
00:51:32with the
00:51:33you can either meet with putting the knight on f7 or put the queen on f7 why the king on
00:51:38f8 is
00:51:39mated or if he goes to h8 he's mated with the knight on f7 well let's say we calculate it
00:51:46out
00:51:47queen takes g6 right what are the moves you have it's check right you can't block it
00:51:55so you see we look at it both ways he if he goes to h8 what do we play we
00:51:59play nine of seven if he goes
00:52:01to f8 where do we play the queen on f7 notice because the rook went to e8 he doesn't have
00:52:07that
00:52:07f7 squared covered anymore okay so let's talk about some key ideas from this game before we finish
00:52:16for this session now again without going into ideas of uh more into the opening just remember from the
00:52:26opening guys we want to play into the center bring both pawns out use a you bring out the piece
00:52:34we
00:52:34know where it should go so when we have the e pawn and the d pawn forward right when it's
00:52:39being attacked
00:52:39just play knight knight c3 if he takes back we take back right we bring out of the knight knights
00:52:46before
00:52:46bishops why because we know where the knight's going to go it should be seven we bring out another bishop
00:52:52why if we put the bishop on c4 guys we're it's going to be blocked by the pawn on e6
00:52:58versus the
00:52:58bishop on d3 has scope going you know once this knight moves going all the way to h7 so if
00:53:06he
00:53:06castles king side there's something there and then remember something what we want to do is we have
00:53:14options okay we can take this knight or we can castle now the good thing about having the queen out
00:53:22earlier i mean instead of casting immediately is that um we do a yes okay if for example queen e2
00:53:32like
00:53:32we have right let's say he takes on e4 right we can take back on e4 and then he plays
00:53:40knight f6
00:53:42here we can go back to e2 we're still controlling e5 we don't want e5 to come out okay well
00:53:49we we've
00:53:50already stopped it with both the pawn and knight against just the pawn moving forward to e5 but you
00:53:57notice here is that um i mean white would be at least slightly better castle and then notice everything's
00:54:07pointing our bishop is already semi-developed because it has scope it's pointing towards the
00:54:11king side so what we want to do is similar to the game look for long-term pressure we want
00:54:18to remove
00:54:18the guard of that knight the f the play bishop g5 to get rid of the knight then we can
00:54:23play e4 with effect
00:54:25so we play queen e2 yes we have we we are preparing the castle connect the rooks play the rook
00:54:32on d1
00:54:33rook on e1 and etc but bishop g5 we get rid of this knight and then we have this immediate
00:54:39pressure
00:54:39with queen e4 yes black can play c5 and then and then there's some trades and all this stuff but
00:54:47white's
00:54:47going to be better here you can already see white already has position pieces on the better position
00:54:54he has more development a little bit more space which is not really that much of a factor
00:55:00but he has better development and it's going to be hard to defend because once i've gotten rid of
00:55:05that knight right queen e4 so bishop g5 i'll just give you a sample line bishop g5 c5 we can
00:55:14actually
00:55:14take y because the rook is going to go to d1 here we play queen a5 check we play c3
00:55:21to block it
00:55:22queen takes c5 notice it took them two moves to do that become the castle now of course rook d8
00:55:28there's
00:55:29only one rook that goes to d8 so then of course we have it defended by the queen which is
00:55:34why the
00:55:34queen's on e2 we also have the other option to play 95. notice 95 is also defending the bishop
00:55:40supported by the queen and we're bringing pieces forward so he claims this is equal but i would
00:55:48prefer to play this as white simply because i'm up in development i've got pieces that it's easier to
00:55:54to figure out where my piece is going versus where is his piece is going and then yeah i can
00:56:00play rook
00:56:00a d1 and stuff maybe the theory is that it's equal but i would prefer to play this as white
00:56:08but i'll
00:56:08i'll give the engine is due that it's probably an equal position but i would say easier to play as
00:56:14white
00:56:14so i'm going to put here easier easier to play as white so when we when we're dealing of human
00:56:26beings
00:56:27we have to consider the human factor is which side is it easier to find the move remember in a
00:56:33time in
00:56:34an actual rated game unrated game where things are timed time is a factor so we have to look at
00:56:41the
00:56:41practical chances and the practical considerations for it all right so keep that in mind so we have
00:56:49that type of thing okay notice we play queen e2 okay queen e2 is a decent move castle the problem
00:56:59if
00:56:59you play castle right away which you didn't even consider is we don't really have any see with queen
00:57:07e2 you take up and we take back now he can't really castle so you have some pressure with queen
00:57:12e2
00:57:13okay then of course we uh we castle he did he i took back with the queen knight f6 and
00:57:21the important
00:57:22thing to remember is we got the queen into the we want to consider where is the best square for
00:57:26the
00:57:26queen now we can come back to e2 but doesn't really give me any play for that so after queen
00:57:33h4
00:57:37right notice he can't play knight d5 now because we have the mate on h7 okay that's why we coordinated
00:57:44a bishop and a queen against the pawn on h7 for mate so he plays now b6 where okay it's
00:57:51nothing that's
00:57:51going to take it yet and remember we're bringing our piece out we want to remove the guard remember that
00:57:59now so we're going to ideally we'd like to take and then give me here he blocked it now when
00:58:07we have
00:58:07remember when we in when we're in this position we have to consider all of our logical moves
00:58:12we can move our rook over to e1 because that's where we have play on e1 we can play uh
00:58:17we can look
00:58:18at anything that's forcing that's threatening a piece bishop e4 attacking the rook notice you can't
00:58:24um if i play bishop e4 anyway see if he takes with the knight we can play bishop takes e7
00:58:34forking the
00:58:35queen and the rook so that's not going to be useful and so we have bishop e4 as an option
00:58:45we also have
00:58:45rook e1 as an option and then that is not quite as forcing so we want to for we want
00:58:55to focus on
00:58:55forcing moves 95 is we're bringing another piece forward to the attack notice the pawn on d4 is
00:59:01guarded by the queen on h4 so 95 is another option c4 is our third option the idea is we
00:59:13want to stop him
00:59:14from playing knight to d5 to get these pieces traded off so that was the idea with c4 it's a
00:59:20little bit
00:59:20slower has its positional merits but in these types of positions what's important we want to look for the
00:59:27most forcing moves bishop e4 okay notice bishop e4 if he moves the rook we're just going to move our
00:59:35excuse
00:59:36we're going to move our knight forward if he takes the pawn we've got knight to c6 so we can't
00:59:41he can't
00:59:42take this pawn we have to look through the pieces to say okay on the other side of the piece
00:59:48we see
00:59:49on between the pawn and this uh between excuse me between the pawn and the queen we have a bishop
00:59:55here once this moved okay right okay maybe we can win the queen but in this case we have to
01:00:03see because
01:00:04we have a knight on e5 we can move the knight to c6 notice that it's forking the rook the
01:00:11bishop and the
01:00:12queen and so also of course the bishop's on e4 so i showed you best play even if you take
01:00:20oops even if
01:00:21you take the important thing is not to take the rook but to take the bishop because i get three
01:00:27points
01:00:28instead of a net three points right because i get a free piece versus just winning the exchange also we're
01:00:35doing it with the temple because he has to respond to it which is even more powerful king g7 and
01:00:41then
01:00:41we have a mate so because we have this combination leading to mate that's proof that that works so
01:00:49knight c6 is just going to simply win so instead of queen takes d4 he could play knight d5 that
01:00:55is true
01:00:56as an alternate move actually let's promote that because the other one just loses for black
01:01:02and we would just continue with f4 notice here we we want to guard that bishop a second time
01:01:10we we have space now to bring the rook up to f3 and h3 to attack on h7 and this
01:01:18probably according
01:01:19to the engine it's winning is certainly black i mean white certainly has the more practical chances
01:01:26and as a human being that's what you're looking for now there after f4 we do have f6
01:01:33we do have to calculate that so after bishop takes g6 we're threatening mate so he can't take the bishop
01:01:41now versus if we take with a knight he can take it because right because we there would no
01:01:50uh excuse me when he took with a knight there wouldn't be a threat of me on the next move
01:01:56so after h takes g knight takes g now notice we're hitting the rook the bishop and threatening
01:02:04the check on h8 and so on so queen d6 queen h8 like i was saying king f7 with the
01:02:13idea of king e8
01:02:15queen h5 now notice we have to look at the discovered stuff you say okay he's going to take the
01:02:21bishop now but
01:02:22we have the discovered idea with the check so you have a discovered double check king's going to
01:02:28come back to g8 queen of g6 now right what's his only move king h8 right then we can take
01:02:37back notice
01:02:38we're hitting the the rook so this is not going to be so easy now once these rooks is traded
01:02:45off i'm
01:02:46going to play knight f7 so even if the bishop comes out and all this other stuff you're going to
01:02:50have
01:02:50to give up the exchange or i'm going to win the queen putting the knight on f7 because that's going
01:02:55to be our next threat so queen takes e5 would be threatened because we have knight f7 okay and then
01:03:03after knight f7 the rook takes i take back and the mate is unavoidable on h7 so yes um that's
01:03:12good
01:03:13also remember in the game we played d5 after bishop b7 notice we didn't want him to take on f3
01:03:21we want to uh preserve that knight we just need to make sure when we play this move when we
01:03:27sack a pawn
01:03:28is a sustainable well we know that he can't play a knight takes d5 because we would take with our
01:03:34pawn
01:03:35and if it obviously can't take with the bishop because he loses bishop so we would say okay he
01:03:40takes the pawn then what oh okay we see there's this idea of rookie one okay then what well rookie
01:03:49c8 guess what happens all right i'm going to take anyway
01:03:58all right bishop takes rook takes check so we calculate the takes takes takes and then after
01:04:05queen takes back we're going to take with the queen you say what's so good about that well we have
01:04:10things like we have things like uh knight g5 so after rook to c8 and we have bishop f1 is
01:04:21possible
01:04:22there's also this idea of playing knight g5 as well so when we look at this position here yes it
01:04:32is
01:04:32actually even before bishop f1 when we look at the position actually white is actually a piece up
01:04:39so you have one minor piece more we look at how many pawns we have six against seven so we're
01:04:46up the
01:04:46exchange right up a knight versus a pawn right so this is at this point after the queen takes f6
01:04:55white is actually winning his way up material black doesn't have any compensation it should be winning
01:05:03so just be careful when you play this moves like this we have to calculate it out
01:05:09and just look at do we have like a long term like a good idea like with rook takes and
01:05:14then for
01:05:15example the idea of sacrificing on e7 to play bishop takes f6 is that possible yes then it works if
01:05:22not
01:05:22we need to do something else like 95 instead of the d5 etc so so what we want to do
01:05:31remember from this we
01:05:32want to be able to get our bishop over on f6 trade this off and then sacrifice on g6 so
01:05:40even after he
01:05:40he plays knight g4 to attack the queen we just come back to h4 notice his knight's under attack we
01:05:47have
01:05:47the bishop guarded twice and so when he takes we make sure to take back with the knight remember
01:05:55okay and then what we want to do after this position is come back to the square where we wanted
01:06:00to go
01:06:01anyway because the idea is we want to sacrifice on g6 coordinate the knight and the bishop remember i
01:06:08showed you and then remember we because we have this rook on e1 we have to think how can we
01:06:15use the
01:06:15rook to our advantage well remember i said we want to coordinate the bishop and the queen against the pawn
01:06:21on g6 for a sacrifice what if we could remove the defender on the pawn on f7 to play that
01:06:30okay there we
01:06:31go rook e6 well f takes e6 so before we do that again you got to calculate if he takes
01:06:40the rook what
01:06:41do we do okay he takes give the check king moves and queen check king g8 so what the worst
01:06:48case scenario
01:06:49is we have a draw because it's block block block right because the check he won't block with the
01:06:54knight because we could take worst case scenario we have a draw remember we all want to coordinate
01:07:00all of our pieces to the same square on h7 with the bishop the knight and the queen so king
01:07:05on g8
01:07:07gave the check and either he can move the king on h8 in which case we just come back with
01:07:12discover check
01:07:13king goes to g8 we take the pawn on a e6 that's with check rook blocks because what other option
01:07:22do you
01:07:22have you have no other moves notice we can play bishop takes f7 maybe because the knight was guarding it
01:07:31alternatively you also have to consider also his other move if he plays knight h7 what happens well
01:07:36simply just take right so we know the knight on h7 doesn't work because it's uh only defended once
01:07:44but attacked twice okay so and after so you know rook e6 works the other option is what if you
01:07:56can test
01:07:57it with rookie eight what happens now we're going to continue with our plan bishop takes g6 does bishop
01:08:04g6 work now that the pawn in f7 is no longer guarded does bishop g6 work how do we know
01:08:12well we look at the forcing move if he takes what happens he takes i take back with my queen
01:08:17that's
01:08:17check and then if he goes to f8 first then we have queen f7 mate right but if he goes
01:08:25to h8 what do we
01:08:26do well because the the rook on uh the square excuse me the rook which was on f7 which excuse
01:08:34me which is
01:08:34was on f8 is on e8 it's no longer guarding the square on f7 so we play knight f7 mate
01:08:42notice we've
01:08:43cut off the uh the eight the the g you know the full all of the g file of course
01:08:49and there's nothing that
01:08:51can take the piece of course you can't block a knight check which is really good so that's me
01:08:59remember with white you want straightforward development defending the pieces bring pieces out
01:09:04on the side of the board we're that we're going to be castling
01:09:10and then we have to look long term we take take what happens okay he doesn't have any counterplay in
01:09:17the center so what we're going to do we want to use our queen as as a piece that's going
01:09:21to be
01:09:21attacking on the queen side otherwise we just castle so after the queen e2 castle and we castle
01:09:28and then just straightforward he takes you take back and when we have this option we have remember we
01:09:35have to consider where's the queen best placed so 94 is not going to work right you play knight what
01:09:44that happens you play 94 you just takes with the queen notice not take with the bishop because we
01:09:49have an uncovered attack against the queen just take with the queen instead we're up a piece and
01:09:54threatening main again just being a piece of it's not going to help him and then we finish with
01:10:02bringing our other rook in play notice we have the bishop on c1 that's already semi-developed it's
01:10:08probably going to go to g on on h6 because it stops the pawn on h7 from moving and also
01:10:15will control the g7 square at the same time attack the rook on f8 so also we have to consider
01:10:23what part of the center are we playing against we're playing against the e5 square that's what
01:10:28we want to do we do one move for the purpose of the next move in a continued way so
01:10:33that's what that is
01:10:37okay now the important other lesson is before we make any pawn sacrifices we want to calculate it
01:10:45all the way through the idea with calculation is you you look at forcing moves first any checks or
01:10:53captures okay let's say is there any checks no you move on to captures then we look at every single
01:11:00capture oh if he captures theirs uh at x square what do we what what happens next oh i take
01:11:08back
01:11:09then he goes there okay now can we go to the square to give check and so we play then
01:11:15we get the control
01:11:16of the the board the idea is with the analysis that we announced we analyze always as far as it
01:11:23takes
01:11:23to come to a conclusion to see if the move is the right move or not okay so with that
01:11:30said i'm going
01:11:31to close the engine i'm going to leave the position here guys what i'm going to do is
01:11:42i'm going to actually post some critical positions onto my instagram in the comments below on facebook what
01:11:50i'm going to do is i'm going to put my facebook address so you guys can go to my facebook
01:11:58and solve
01:11:59those puzzles also um i have other puzzles from other games you can actually practice and you practice
01:12:07those as well the best thing to do is for you to try try it out without having the answer
01:12:13first because
01:12:13that way you'll actually learn more sort of like doing a math puzzle and uh trying to trying to solve
01:12:21the puzzle before you get the answer because if you get the answer before solving it you don't really
01:12:25learn anything because you haven't worked it out yourself so keep that in mind so with that said
01:12:31i would like to thank all the people watching this live on facebook i certainly do appreciate it
01:12:36it does encourage me to do more of these lives um probably what i'll be doing is i can be
01:12:42probably
01:12:43alternating um every other day doing this because i also do other content as well that has to do with
01:12:49games and other interesting things as well so like dungeons and dragons online i do that if you're
01:12:56interested in that so i'll alternate with that there is a limited time so i'll have to alternate back and
01:13:03forth what i'm going to do is i'm going to do one more series uh with the middle game now
01:13:09what i'm
01:13:09doing is i'm doing it as if in a percentage basis as if of what you would spend your time
01:13:15working on in
01:13:16your games so i'm going to i'll come up with two games as well and then after that i'm going
01:13:22to i'm going to
01:13:23just after that i'm going to go back to the i'm going to actually go to the openings and just
01:13:28suggest
01:13:29some good openings to play i'm going to just suggest some general things to play then there's
01:13:36going to be a rotation so the rotation basically is going to be it's going to be end game middle
01:13:41game
01:13:41openings okay then after openings it's going to go back to end game so we're going to go in that
01:13:49that actual uh rotation the idea is i'm going through the top hundred uh main positions for chess and
01:13:58then pass that once i finish that we'll focus mostly uh 80 to 90 percent middle game and then the
01:14:06rest of
01:14:06the openings okay all right so what i'd like you to do for all the people watching this live and
01:14:17also
01:14:18and or on recorded version here on facebook what i'd like you do is please click the thumbs up on
01:14:23the

01:14:52content on
01:14:53this channel for for you to view and enjoy okay so that is for chess that is for dungeon dragons
