00:00Grant and Danny welcoming you back on the fan.
00:04Stephon Diggs, still a free agent.
00:06ESPN today linking him as a best fit for the Rams.
00:10Makes sense.
00:11They threw the sixth most passes out of 11 personnel last year.
00:16They've got Devontae Adams, Puka Nakua.
00:18Could be looking for a number three, and he would fit well underneath
00:21in a lot of the stuff Sean McVay asks of receivers.
00:24But he also seems to make sense for the commanders,
00:27who need a veteran, who are still flirting with the idea,
00:30it would appear, of Brandon Ayuk,
00:31and who we've long thought are going to add another wide receiver
00:34to beef up their depth chart a little bit.
00:37I want to know how people would feel about Stephon Diggs to the commanders.
00:41He is a Gaithersburg, Maryland native.
00:43He played at the University of Maryland.
00:45I will say, Danny, we did an interview with him at Radio Row,
00:48still one of my favorite Radio Row interviews
00:49in all the years we went to the Super Bowl that we've done.
00:52He is incredibly charming.
00:54He's also gotten into a lot of trouble with teams,
00:56buttheads with quarterbacks and coaches.
00:58There's videos coming out with him and Cardi B
01:01shouting at each other outside of public places in the DMV.
01:04Like, you deal with some stuff when Stephon Diggs is on your team.
01:07But he can play football.
01:09He went for 1,000 yards last year.
01:11Everybody likes the idea, the upside of Ayuk.
01:14They're willing to take on some of the baggage that goes with that
01:18because he's got a relationship with Jaden Daniels from the past.
01:20But what about a guy who went for 1K last year,
01:23who's been really good over the last few seasons when he's been healthy,
01:25hasn't had those same injury risk, you know, red flags that come along with him,
01:30and also is hungry and needs to prove that he's got something left
01:34and has the ties, not to Daniels, but to the area.
01:37Short-term Stephon Diggs, greater than Zimble, long-term Stephon Diggs.
01:40He has worn out his welcome a couple times.
01:43He has.
01:43There's no way around that.
01:44He was also prolific for a number of years,
01:47basically from 2018 until 2023, really.
01:51You go, that's one of the upper echelon receivers.
01:53Wherever you rank him, that's fine.
01:55The point is, he was up.
01:56He was a, you know, you don't have to scroll down too far
01:59to find him at the top of a bunch of leaderboards.
02:01He was really, really prolific.
02:02Two years ago in 2024 in Houston, he was well over a 1,000-yard pace,
02:07and he got injured.
02:08Last year, he got over 1,000 yards in an offense where he, you know,
02:11not as dynamic as he once was when he went for 127 catches,
02:141,500-plus yards, and eight touchdowns for Buffalo,
02:17but still a really impactful receiver without, again,
02:22kind of lighting up everything, if that makes any sense.
02:24Like, you don't just do 85 catches for 1,000 yards.
02:27Like, there aren't that many guys that did that last year.
02:29Well, passing games go through them to an extent.
02:31You just said something really compelling to me, too,
02:33that I hadn't thought about.
02:35If not for the injury he suffered at the midseason point in Houston
02:39when he had become a really nice complement for Nico Collins,
02:43Texans fans will tell you they were big Stephon Diggs fans
02:47because he was really helping them and C.J. Stroud in 24.
02:52But if you take that year out where he got hurt and only played half of a season,
02:56he would have an eight-year stretch of 1,000 every single season right now.
03:01That would be active.
03:02How many guys in the league have that?
03:04I mean, I bet you can count them on one hand.
03:06But you go back to 2018, his yardage totals, 10-21, 11-30,
03:12league best 15-35, 12-25, 14-29, 11-83.
03:20Then he had the season where he got hurt at the midway point,
03:23and then last year back to 85 for 1,000.
03:26Now, in a perfect world, by the way, I don't want him to go for 1,000 here next year.
03:30He just serves as a great complement if Terry McLaurin gets hurt.
03:34Now maybe he's in that 950 to 1,100 range
03:37because he's actually catching a ton of balls.
03:39But I'm hoping it's sub-100 targets, you know, right around 100 targets.
03:44I'm hoping it's 65 to 75 catches.
03:47The only problem with bringing in Diggs, though,
03:50he's 32, he turns 33 in season in November.
03:53I'm going to separate for a second baggage question marks.
03:57You want to say, in air quotes, character concerns, like whatever else there is.
04:00Just had the hearing and charges got dismissed for whatever was going on
04:04with his former chef at his house or whatever.
04:07If you bring him in, Danny, you are absolutely slowing down the chances
04:12of Antonio Williams helping you a ton in the short term
04:15because Stephon Diggs and him are very similar players, very similar.
04:21What do they talk about with both of these guys?
04:23Well, route running, right?
04:25Are they inside or are they outside?
04:26Is this a slot receiver or not?
04:28I would ask you about Stephon Diggs.
04:29Is he a slot receiver or not?
04:30I think a lot of people would say, yeah, he's a slot receiver.
04:32Not so fast.
04:34Last year, 390 snaps in the slot, 355 out wide.
04:38This is what Williams should be in the NFL.
04:40So if you bring him in, you are taking Antonio Williams and going,
04:44hey, we'll see you in a season.
04:46Not quite.
04:47You see what I'm saying, though?
04:48Like, instead of playing all the time and being the guy in weeks one and two
04:52that you're counting on, you're pushing him down the depth chart
04:55and saying if something happens to Stephon Diggs, you get your shot.
04:58Do you really want to do that?
04:59So here's how I would view that.
05:00I, I, that's one interpretation.
05:02I don't think it's crazy.
05:04Let me offer this one.
05:05They, but they do have overlapping skill sets, but if they're both in the
05:08game at the same time, they're lining up in stacks and bunches and you're
05:12not sure which is which this guy, you know, this time he lines up in the slot.
05:15This time, the other guy lines up in the slot.
05:16This time he's motioning one way.
05:18He's motioning the other way.
05:19I think there's a lot of mix and match that's possible there.
05:21You're right.
05:22There is an overlap, but I also think there's room for everybody to eat in that
05:24regard.
05:25That's if they're right about Williams and he's outside too.
05:28Now they're smarter football people than me.
05:30I'm just a pudgy zilch on the radio to me.
05:34He's a slot guy and Diggs is outside inside a little bit of everything.
05:39Just a good quality receiver.
05:40But he played more slot last year than he did outside.
05:42Like by, by like 10 reps.
05:44Well, but yes, even if you want to call it 50, 50, half of his time is spending
05:49the slot.
05:49Yes.
05:50That's a hell of a lot of time.
05:51That's a lot.
05:51So to me, everything, if the, the consideration of, Oh, I might be stunting
05:57Antonio Williams's development.
05:58Maybe that's, maybe that's the case.
06:00Whether I buy that or not, it's irrelevant.
06:01Does this help Jaden Daniels in the offense?
06:03Then my answer is yes.
06:04I don't care about anything else.
06:06And a pet, again, there were 10 guys last year that had over 80 catches, but
06:11over a thousand yards.
06:12And one of them's in free agency right now and doesn't need 40 million bucks to
06:15sign with you.
06:16This to me is a no brainer.
06:18Again, not a longterm.
06:19I don't want to be in bed longterm.
06:20That's always going to end badly.
06:21A short-term situation while Jaden Daniels is on a rookie deal.
06:24This offense needs a second pass catcher.
06:27I hope Antonio Williams turns into something.
06:29Maybe he gets an apprenticeship under, uh, uh, Stefan Diggs, worst case scenario.
06:33I think they actually compliment each other a little bit and can add some
06:36mystery to the offense.
06:37But to me, that's the priority.
06:39Sorry, third round pick.
06:41You may have to wait an extra year.
06:42So you can absolutely have them on the field at the same time.
06:45It's just not going to be all the time.
06:47It's 11 personnel at what percent, right?
06:50And then when they're on the field, only one ball's getting thrown.
06:54So implicitly, inherently, obviously he is taking away from Antonio Williams in some
07:01indirect way.
07:01Any veteran receiver you bring in is going to like Brandon.
07:05I, you will also, yeah, that's fair.
07:06Some of that, but I, you say better fit because he's predominantly going to be
07:10outside.
07:10The point is any reliable target will take shares away from, from everyone.
07:14Correct.
07:14But digs way more so because he is quite literally, I think exactly what they
07:20envision Williams blossoming into.
07:23I think that, you know, they are, you acquire them on the same aisle.
07:27I think Brandon, I use on aisle six Antonio Williams is on aisle seven, but if you go
07:32four feet past them on aisle seven and look on the left, there's Stephon Diggs.
07:36There's just a ton of crossover in that Venn diagram.
07:38So that's the question I've got for people.
07:40And I want to pose the phones, uh, question for you guys now, 800-636-1067.
07:45I'm just curious to touch the people on this, Danny.
07:48If it means bad things for Antonio Williams, his chances to impact the team early in the
07:52year, which is how I perceive it.
07:54Should that mean no on Stephon Diggs?
07:57Do you see it that way?
07:59And do you think bringing him in would hurt the kid?
08:02Should that matter?
08:03We're not really in, you and I can want to be in developmental mode, but in town right
08:08now, people want to see them win.
08:10Yeah.
08:10People think Dan Quinn needs to win this year.
08:12He should be in trouble.
08:13They think Adam Peters is in a make or break it season.
08:16I don't necessarily see it that way because he got to the NFC title game a couple years
08:19ago, but with Daniels, with the executives, with the coaching staff, there's some urgency
08:24here.
08:25So people might actually say, I don't care about developing the third round pick and
08:29making sure he's the one catching the passes.
08:31Go get the really good football player to help Jaden Daniels.
08:34I mean, you've stood on the table and screamed over and over.
08:36They haven't done enough.
08:37They need to go get a wide receiver.
08:39Well, then people should absolutely want Stephon Diggs who went for a thousand last year.
08:42I'm people and I want him.
08:44Again, not long-term because that would be a mess.
08:46If he's holding out for that, then it won't work him.
08:47Nobody wants him long-term.
08:48I don't think we need it.
08:49Like he's not getting a four-year deal.
08:51He's 32 years old and he was in a hearing as to whether or not he was getting thrown
08:56in jail a lot long ago.
08:57And it worked out for him.
08:59It seems like charges are dropped and things are fine.
09:01800-636-1067.
