The Argentinian embassy says it's in repatriation talks with the family of a tourist killed in a fatal bus rollover in north Queensland this week. Meanwhile the stretch of highway where the woman lost her life has been labelled a recipe for disaster by experts, after two fatal bus crashes on the same stretch in almost as many years.

00:10rolled on the Bruce Highway, killing a 26-year-old Argentinian tourist on board
00:15and injuring more than a dozen others.
00:18The crash happened on a remote stretch near Gumlu between Townsville and Bowen
00:22that locals know all too well.
00:24In 2024, not far from this week's incident,
00:27another crash involving a Greyhound bus claimed three lives.
00:32It is a really dangerous section of road with increasing traffic volumes.
00:36For road safety advocate John Gaffney, it's a bitter reminder.
00:40Ten guests died on a bus from his son's wedding in the Hunter Valley in 2023.
00:45After visiting Queensland's deadly highway stretch,
00:48the retired traffic engineer says he wasn't surprised to hear of another crash.

00:57He says the highway is peppered with problems.
01:00The road's too narrow, with lines too close to the edge.
01:04There's no room for driver error and drivers make error all the time.
01:09In a statement, the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator said it's looking into whether any safety laws were breached,
01:15particularly around fatigue, vehicle maintenance and driver compliance.
01:19The Argentinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it's assisting the family of the woman who was killed in the crash.
01:25It says her parents are hoping to travel to Australia to bring their daughter's body home.
