MTGA: What is new, and an example best out of 3 Match series”- White-Blue Deck- Aerial Aerialist Part 11- Standard Ranked!
Transcript
00:00Good afternoon, good evening, or good morning, depending on where you are in the world.
00:03We'd like to introduce to you Magic the Gathering Arena.
00:07We're going to be playing two matches by side of three.
00:11What we're going to be focusing on is the new content,
00:13and also strategies and tactics that makes or breaks the success of a match.
00:20First of all, we're going to look at what's new here.
00:26First of all, we don't have anything new, just opportunities to get more decks.
00:30These are virtual decks, not real ones, and it uses gold, which is virtual in the game, not physical money.
00:36Now, I believe you can purchase other in-game currencies like the gems, I think.
00:43Let me look.
00:46Yeah, no point, you can just play in games, so there's no point in that.
00:50What we're going to be doing is we're going to be playing the Arcane Airless White Blue deck.
00:55And what we're going to be doing is playing best side of three.
00:58It's going to be standard ranked, a best side of three format.
01:05The first thing we do is click final match.
01:08Best side of three, make sure it's standard ranked, and not just standard.
01:13Standard ranked, best side of three, select Arcane Airless, and we're going to click play.
01:35We're going to do it at this point, let's wait to be matched up with, or paired up with one
01:39of our opponents.
01:41The way it works is you play best out of three, so you win two out of three, so if
01:45you win two consecutively, you win.
01:47Or if you lose one, win one, or lose one, and then you win game three, then you win the
01:52match.
01:53What will happen is after the first game, you'll have the option to play first or to draw first.
02:00And then, so, if you win the first game, then your opponent will have the option to play first or
02:09to draw first.
02:11If you draw first, you end up actually with eight cards instead of seven.
02:16The idea is, the reason why that works is because you have to discard, you can't have more than seven
02:20in your hand, so what you'll do is, you'll want to actually put something in play anyway, which will put
02:25you back at seven.
02:26The idea is, we can get to a card faster, however, getting things in play faster is the idea.
02:32So that would be the first one.
02:35Now, what I would do is, as a general rule, wait five minutes to see if anybody, you get paired
02:39up with anybody, and then past that, what we can do is re-enter into it.
02:46There's other times where it's either too slow, there's not enough people, or we have other extreme, there's too many
02:51people coming, and it's already been filled up.
02:56So we're going to be paired up with this one if only.
03:00And the idea is, you both have, it's usually around the same rank, but actually I would be bronze, and
03:06it would be silver, so what I have here is a two drop, and a two lane for one, two
03:12drop, three drop, three drop, and a two drop, so we'll keep it.
03:17And according to this, he plays first, he plays a pair of flames, except for that.
03:23What we're going to do is, see if we can bring anything out.
03:27Out, out.
03:29We're going to play a, just going to destroy, so we know what we're going to talk, click done, I'm
03:35done.
03:43Make note of what he just did, this is a fire, which means only something works.
03:47Fire, or something with reach, can block it.
03:51This is also part of an artifact, tap on, tap creature control, and then I won't, uh, add one man
03:57of any color.
03:57I don't know if you're both playing sides of the white one.
04:00Now what we're going to do is, we're going to actually play, we're going to run out, and play a
04:04two two.
04:05Maybe as we want to be able to block the one one.
04:07And the, uh, so this is a red card, it's a one one for a one drop, and the reason
04:17why it's good is because it reduces what the mana cost for.
04:21Okay, turn out a creature, four, six is beautiful, that's a nice one.
04:25For what, what was that, two drop?
04:27Oh, five drop.
04:29Oh, because it gave one each time, okay.
04:32Turns out a five, seven, ooh, nice.
04:35Pumped it to three, nice.
04:40Now what we need to do is, we need to bring out more mana, bring out something to block.
04:46Unfortunately, we're not going to be able to kill off the five, so we basically have to take five damage.
04:51Because when we ended up, it's five, and his toughness is seven, so we, we no attacks.
04:57Actually, because if we block any of them, he'll kill it off, and then what do we get?
05:00He'll kill off the stronger one, and then we have one less, and he only took two.
05:04Meanwhile, it's going to be six.
05:08Okay, here we go, nice.
05:11Nice.
05:14Okay.
05:15What we do is, ooh, nice boy.
05:26Yes, we do want more mana out fast as possible, and a five, you know, blocks, because we'll just try
05:32it anyway.
05:34What we only need to do, what we're going to need to do is bring out something.
05:41Again, a life and a lot of fun, okay.
05:48Let's try to get this out of here.
05:49We can't have to do the same.
05:52Let's get Azores, and we can only have one legendary out same time, just go to combat, go to attacks.
06:00I don't know, end our turn.
06:14Problem is, is five, seven is difficult to beat.
06:19Wait, we have two of the same.
06:22Oh, but because they're not legendary, you can do that.
06:25Or if he passes this one.
06:29Oh, for two, ooh, that's beautiful.
06:34And you're not going to be able to avoid that.
06:36Same good game.
06:38Go to game two.
06:50Okay, see, game one.
06:53What happened was, you brought one out.
06:55The idea is, when you bring out, you want to get things out quicker.
06:58You have a lower drop, and also, uh, have, uh, mana aggregation, so.
07:05So, what we'll do now is.
07:13So, sideboarding, just in case you're not familiar with the term, that is when they can swap up
07:18up to 15 cards from a separate sideboard source.
07:23Okay, so that's what that is.
07:26The idea is, normally, you put aside a sideboard of 15 cards.
07:30And what you do is, you, by experience of playing on different decks, you can know what you
07:35should add or subtract to the cards you already have in your deck.
07:39That's the idea.
07:41So, if you need more or less of something, you can do it accordingly.
07:45So, we're going to go to game two now, guys.
07:48Now, with game two, we're going to definitely decide to play first.
07:51We have one mana.
07:53Now, we have, we could keep that.
07:57We play our planes and healers off for the lifelink ability.
08:01This is fine.
08:03So, that means next time we can hit and actually game a little off.
08:10I'm going to bring him out.
08:13And let's just attack our one and see if we watch.
08:17Always give your opponent an ability to mess up.
08:21And also, of course, if he doesn't block, we're just going to take.
08:24We're just going to hang out there.
08:31Nice.
08:33Mono white is pretty strong.
08:36But this one is good because it can aggregate.
08:41Is that good, fine?
08:43Ooh, nice.
08:45Oh, it can bring up more mana faster than that's the idea.
08:48We can pump that, so it's three minus tap, so it's going to block anyway.
08:53So we're up for, sorry, we've got three now.
08:57We want to do is creeped up on the two-two.
09:02So it can't attack.
09:05We're going to slay for one.
09:08I'm going to gain one.
09:09So he loses one when we gain one.
09:11That's a net effect of the two.
09:14I like minus one and plus one for us.
09:19And this.
09:22The good thing is, even if you lose, you learn what cards to play and learn what beats that
09:28you already play.
09:29And just in case you play somebody who plays the same thing as you, you'll know how to beat it.
09:36So you see the synergies, what we're going for is the synergies, or the synergistic effect.
09:42So it pumped it to three because of that.
09:54I want to do is get this one after the boys, too.
10:00Eh?
10:02I'm going to attack again for one.
10:13Wow, how many of these does he have?
10:16It's like all four.
10:17It's like, he has double of those, which is really good.
10:24And so early game, you just bring out one as a blocker, and then bring this out and just
10:30tap the second one.
10:33I think we'll beat it.
10:38Looks as if right now, I don't have enough mana, I'm not going to be able to survive that.
10:42So, we can play our scour, possibly, double block, and we're going to return, we're going
10:54to return that one to your hand, and more attacks.
11:04I mean, basically, if I get a fourth one and you can draw it on a card, and you tap
11:09that
11:10there.
11:10Mmm, nice.
11:17Now, what we probably have to do is to order this, whatever gives us a synergistic effect.
11:24So, the effect still goes into play, but.
11:30There is a whole lot I can do because I go off with a one and it's done.
11:35As I say, one and none.
11:38And so...
11:40We're going to continue on to the next turn here, once he's finished.
12:00The idea is you just sacrifice one to pump the other one, and then we'll see if we can draw
12:08a card.
12:14Yeah, this is over.
12:21Part of it is what I draw, what you actually draw.
12:24I can't really help that.
12:31What you can help is what gets in your deck and pass that you can't.
12:35So, match number one goes to our opponent, the draw.
12:46What we're going to do at this point, we're going to go to match number two.
12:50Before we do that, well, let's take a look at our deck to see if we can improve it again.
12:58Because we got severely outplayed there.
13:02We have four of those, two of those.
13:06We've got 89, so 60 card deck, 15 is 75.
13:12We have 14 more.
13:16We want to actually get a fourth one, if possible, for stasis there.
13:20I can't.
13:22Oh, spell stutter.
13:23Can we get another one?
13:25I can't.
13:26How about essence scamming?
13:28Can we get a fourth one?
13:31Can we get more of those?
13:33No.
13:34So, we find the ones that are best ones that fulfill a purpose and see if we can get more.
13:39Special sailing.
13:40Can we get four of those?
13:41Like that.
13:43Let's try it again.
13:45Let's try it again.
13:45Let's click one.
13:48Because what you want is you want the one drops.
13:50Three, like turn one or turn two.
13:53Preferably turn one.
13:55And play it out.
13:56So we're going to go for a second match.
13:57Make sure we have selected just out of three, because by default it's just one.
14:03Click rank, and standard rank is selected by default.
14:06We select arcane arrows.
14:08And we click five.
14:10I guess we're going to be matched up with somebody.
14:13And then what we'll do is we'll wait to see.
14:21What it is.
14:30We're going to play first.
14:32You'll notice here we have five men.
14:34We have a three drop and a four drop.
14:37The problem is, for two rounds we're not going to do anything but put mana down.
14:40So we might as well just put whatever comes into play.
14:42Tap first.
14:51Because that's a dual land white blue.
14:54So this is his turn.
14:55Oh sorry.
14:55He goes.
14:56Oh I go first.
15:00I'm going to play with two rounds.
15:01I'm basically a hacker coming up.
15:04I'll show you.
15:05Oh my gosh.
15:06We have some enemies.
15:07This thing on our legend or angel.
15:09Is Gida the component of his flying vigilance.
15:13Each other angel you control.
15:15Enter is an additional plus one, plus one counter.
15:17For each angel you already control.
15:19You can tap it at one place and spend only 9 pass it on this path. So you can do
15:25that.
15:26So let's do this. We have 3 mana. Let's do this.
15:31I'm going to give my wife improv. Oh, wait, wait.
15:34Okay, after that. So we have a 2. We just go in for 2, swing in for 2 every minute
15:40and then pass the turn.
15:42Next turn we've got a 3-4. And we're going to swing for 5 instead of 2.
15:52We're going to have a 4, so we want to make sure we have 2 and we'll put another planes
15:56down.
16:01Yeah, so just in case we get white, we can do that.
16:04We want to be, ooh, that's a good point.
16:07Nice. That's a good point.
16:10Let's get a white out.
16:15And I'm out of here.
16:22Let's swing for 2, see what he does.
16:24Oh, wait, wait, wait, we didn't attack.
16:27So I could swing and he walks.
16:31Nice.
16:32Ooh, what was that a 4 drop? A full job to draw 2.
16:38Maybe it's good, maybe it's not.
16:42Choose a good amount to draw though.
16:46What would we be able to do early on when we need it more, but...
16:51I'm going to break out.
16:54Good.
16:59What we're going to do is we're going to swing for 5.
17:03We're just going to take 5 to the face, pass the turn.
17:08Notice we have 2 mana so we can climb.
17:12What do we have for mana?
17:15Blue and red.
17:17I'm doing lanes of white, blue and red.
17:19Difficult to play a 3 colored deck.
17:21But there we go.
17:23You don't want to just do one color because it's related to what you can do.
17:26So we can climb here.
17:29Uh, 2 to me.
17:31I'll just take 2 to the top.
17:35Uh...
17:36Yeah.
17:39Let's...
17:39I'll set it up.
17:42Alright.
17:46What you want to do is wait until one of his best types come out and then it's like that.
17:53You can do that after we attack?
18:00Please try the course...
18:06Uh...
18:06He's kind of quite old.
18:10So I had to...
18:11I mean...
18:13I mean...
18:13That's going to be this, huh?
18:19We're going to attack for 9.
18:23Pass the turn.
18:24He has vigils...
18:25means it doesn't happen like that next turn will be able to add up the first
18:31one is attack second one or power and toughness that's basically how much
18:36damage you do versus how much damage you can take that's two three and four
18:40that's nine plus one is ten and that's six what you want to do is
18:47yeah okay just let him attack for six I'm sure it's going to replicate it because it's a six six
18:58on my turn replicate and then swing for everything
19:05although it'd have to count I would count it up so he'd kill the three four and the rest would
19:09come
19:09in so if they're two twos or more it's still going to end up to six and that'll win
19:14or it's sideboarding I don't need to sideboard any cards he is sideboarding means he has an
19:21option to replace up to 15 cards so anywhere from zero to 15 so what happens is it gives
19:29an option to sideboard out and then he can decide up to 15 what cards are in place now this
19:39can be
19:39quite good if you found out that a deck is missing certain types of cards you have you can subtract
19:45certain ones and put certain ones in to make up the difference now he will have the option to go
19:55first which normally your opponent does so two options either you can elect to go first or to drop
20:01first here I have no mana so I have to move I also have no mana for more than that
20:10we have three mana oh that's rough we'll have to spell feather those two or should I
20:21that's a difficult choice to move keep the five um it's very difficult one of my best cards in the
20:32deck and I have to pick it up
20:56and then you put an island in
21:05yeah let's spell spell like that we don't want him drawing cards
21:13and we will
21:17we'll do that on our turn
21:22we'll go next combat we don't have anything on our pacifism
21:27next turn uh we'll have to be on our turn is the pacifism on a good card
21:54I'm gonna
22:01use it
22:05This won't be able to switch path because I've never been to there's nothing to return
22:12otherwise you'd be able to save the card decide which one you want to return
22:18we're not going to waste it on that we're going to play a Q3 versus a 1-3
22:57Let's go to combat let's go all in for four
23:02it's going to block one of you the holding question
23:07he blocks the Q3 as we do it anyway he takes four
23:20okay, I've got a attack with both
23:25probably not before flying for a straight so he's there
23:33ooh seven ouch
23:35that's nasty
23:37I'm going to exile him out so he doesn't do anything
23:42ouch
23:43yeah, I have to play
23:45I have to play an exile him because
23:51that has to happen
23:52there's no two ways about it
23:55let me just attack the four
24:01that's too good
24:04way too good
24:06yeah, we have to do the same thing on that guy too
24:10except he's an 0-4 so we don't care about it yet
24:19let's slam for four
24:25if he attacks we're going to block
24:27if it's punk
24:28oop
24:37let's slam for
24:42let's see that's 7-11 damage
24:50oh wait, oh four, no he can't
24:55hold the wrong guy back
24:58hold the wrong guy back
24:58so if he does attack
24:59he can go off with a Q2
25:02oh wait, I could have attacked with a Q2 as well
25:04if he does switcherons
25:07braincrank
25:08six
25:11braincrank
25:14six
25:17oh he's going to pump it probably
25:19probably just go off the bat
25:24or
25:25or
25:25I could have triple blocked it
25:26I could
25:26right
25:28let's see
25:30I'm playing because
25:31they keep pumping right now
25:37let's slam for
25:39slide damage
25:42he has to block otherwise he loses
25:52okay
25:53the question is
25:55I've got 10
25:57can you hit me for 10 damage
26:00not likely but possible
26:04so
26:05looks like a one
26:12okay
26:13okay good for me
26:16lost the first match
26:17won the second
26:23and
26:25350 gold
26:27550 XP
26:29and we notice you have 650
26:32for
26:32the packs
26:35requires a thousand
26:36or
26:36let me show you
26:38oh sorry
26:40what
26:40oh sorry
26:41store
26:45and let's say packs
26:47so a thousand for a regular one
26:50and then you have one that has a mythic
26:51is
26:531,300
26:54probably objectively better to pay for the mythic because mythic is extremely strong
27:01so to summarize what we did is we played white blue
27:06the white blue deck I'm going to show you
27:09is arcane hairless
27:10now the idea of it is that we bring out the flyers that are white flyers that have synergy
27:16so what happens is you bring them out
27:18right
27:19you have some that have lifelinks that want to do damage
27:22right
27:22damage to a white creature
27:24playing to all the spell with lifelink also causes controlling that much life
27:28meaning when it does damage
27:29anything is that much of life
27:31so you bring out your small drop for white for lifelink
27:34and then you bring out one such as a spectral sailor
27:38one blue
27:39it has flash you can play at any time which is really good
27:42it's an uncommon
27:44it has flying
27:46and then when you have four mana to spend
27:50you can pay three colors and a blue to draw a card
27:53so sort of mid-game
27:55it's good because you can draw the extra card that you would normally gain it to
27:59normally you can only draw one card unless there is another card that allows you to draw other ones
28:03then what you do is
28:05what you're going to do is for your lower drop
28:07so you get things like cooped up
28:10right what does that do
28:12when you put it on a creature it can't attack a block
28:15you can pay two colors and a white and it can exile it
28:21then what we have we have other things like
28:25inspiring overseers flying two colors and a white
28:28when the creature enters you gain one life and you draw a card
28:31very useful so you can do a couple things at the same time
28:34for defense with white what we're doing is stasis snare one colors and two whites
28:39what happens is you can play it at any time
28:41which is really good
28:42so basically right before he goes to attack
28:46right I think or when he goes to attack I can tap it I think
28:50oh wait I guess if he attacked it taps normally anyway right
28:54so what happens is flash means it can be played at any time
28:59you may cast a spell with flash anytime you can cast an instant
29:02which is what you can do anyway
29:03you play that out what does it do
29:05when it enters exile target creature
29:08an opponent controls until enchantment leaves a battlefield
29:11so if it's when it controls me it's in play
29:15it doesn't exile something into the card
29:17otherwise that would be something else
29:19then what you do after that
29:21of course you have dazzling denial
29:23counter target spell unless you control or paste two colors
29:26means of any color
29:27if you control a bird counter that spell unless the controller pays four instead
29:33so
29:35they have to if you control a bird they have to pay four instead
29:39then we have chart of course
29:40this is also a two draw so you want ones and twos right
29:43you look in logically in that order
29:47so one colors and a blue
29:49play only on your turn
29:50allows you to draw two cards and you discard a card if you
29:54unless excuse me unless you attack this turn
29:57what you do is basically
30:00the better way to do it would be more logical is
30:02you attack then play chart of course
30:05right and you get to take both cards
30:08if you didn't let's say early game you didn't attack
30:11for whatever reason you discard one of them
30:14now for our lower drops
30:16that are powerful we have legendary creature angel
30:19okay the font of hope has vigilance
30:21when you attack it doesn't cause a creature with vigilance to tap
30:26meaning when you tap it can't attack or block
30:29okay
30:29so it has flying which only other flyers or things with reach can block
30:33and it also has vigilance
30:34now the good thing about it is that each other angel you control
30:37enters with an additional plus one plus one counter on it
30:40for each angel you already control
30:41so this gives you the synergistic effect
30:44in addition to that you can actually tap it
30:47right instead of attacking right
30:49to add one uh
30:51planes right one white mana
30:54and you spend the mana only to cast an angel spell
30:56so you do it only to get another angel out
30:58that's kind of like the minus turn
31:03and of course healer hawk at one drop
31:05it has flying and lifelink
31:07okay
31:08and then
31:11we do after that
31:13as we have our four
31:15we also have things that can remove things from the grave
31:18excuse me from the
31:20from that from play so
31:21on summon you pay one blue we turn target creature to its owner's hand
31:27okay
31:28then what we do is we have
31:31we have essence scatter
31:32you counter the target creature spell for one dollars in the blue
31:36doesn't say they can
31:38doesn't say they can pay mana to negate it
31:41unless they can have something that counters that ability
31:44okay
31:46so that is when they bring out a creature you boom
31:49essence scatter
31:51I already told you
31:54and then
31:56also have spell stutter
31:57this is an instinct complaint anytime
32:00versus essence counter
32:01so just like essence scatter you can play at any time
32:04the idea is
32:05you pay one color and a blue
32:07and you counter target spell unless the controller pays two colors
32:11plus an additional one colors for each fairy you control
32:14so if you have a fairy deck that goes up very well with it
32:18the idea with blue is you want to have a lot of drawing and countering
32:22and if possible some removal
32:26and the other thing we can do if you get one in play you can
32:29play rate of application what that does on your turn
32:32only you pay two colors and blue
32:35two blues
32:36right or two
32:39it has a kicker cost of five
32:41now what is a kicker you may pay an additional cost as you cast a spell
32:44right so we have two options you can pay the two colors and two blue
32:48or the kicker cost
32:50now you can create a token that's a copy of the target feature
32:53if the spell is kick create five of those tokens instead
32:58so you're gonna pay nine but you get five of them
33:01that can really change the game
33:05in your favor
33:06that would be late game because you would need nine mana
33:09a lot
33:10so it's basically like by like turn nine or ten depending on when you're able to get the card out
33:15when you're able to do it that would be late game but that definitely can change your feeling
33:20the other thing that's important this is a white blue hybrid
33:23so it costs it's called cloud blazer it's
33:26you cast it for three colors white and blue five mana which is quite a bit
33:31it's a human scout and has flying
33:33so say okay that's great but
33:35here's where it's good
33:36it's a 2-2
33:38right it's an uncommon
33:40it has flying so only flyers or things of the reach can go archaic
33:44and when this creature enters you gain two life and you draw two cards
33:48so two and two
33:49right so you think of the net effect
33:52you gain two life two cards and it's a 2-2
33:55so it's pretty good
33:57they're probably better but it's pretty good
34:01and so
34:03we also have pacifism
34:05what happens is for one color is similar on a white
34:08you play that out so the creature can't attack or block so it's also defensive
34:14cooped up is similar what happens is the same thing it can't attack or block but the difference with this
34:19is with the same with the cast is
34:21you can also play two colors and a white and you can excel the enchanted creature so excel whatever
34:29which already let's say
34:31so you have that you can play this out and you can play that
34:36at the same time
34:37you'll need to pay the one colors and a white plus the two colors and a white so that amounts
34:42to be
34:43five mana and you can actually exile it
34:46um that's a plus and a minus
34:48usually it's better just to play the one colors and a white because these are the things that can excel
34:53anyway for less cost
34:54so that's a plus and minus but it's good for just can't attack or block
35:01and so
35:02so
35:04we have dual lands we have white and blue we have a temple enlightenment so it can be white or
35:09blue
35:09it's great so we can see what's the top card there
35:12gives us an option to see it and then sometimes it gives us the option
35:15I'm sorry
35:16gives us the option to once we see what it is we can keep what it is or we can
35:20move it to the bottom of the deck
35:21and again it's white and blue
35:23another one for mana is called tranquil cove and so what it is is it's a dual land so it's
35:29white and blue
35:30two means multiple colors you can choose from so you can choose either white or blue
35:35it will come into play tap so you can't use it immediately or anything else
35:39but when it land enters you gain a life
35:43it's good to have one of those because you can just gain life so you play that early so just
35:48in case you don't have a creature out you can gain the life to compensate for taking any damage
35:55so that's the idea so that's this is my deck
35:58of course what I have for it is I have four healer hawks for spectra sailors for unsummons
36:04and we have two cooped ups
36:07we have four guida the front of folk those are legendary it's really good
36:11pacifism is always good and we have four of those
36:13four chart of course
36:15that is your drawing ability what you want that
36:17four of that
36:18dozen denials we have two of those
36:21three essence scatters
36:23we have two of the stealth stutters
36:26four dazzling angels
36:27four inspiring overseers
36:30three estasis snares which is good
36:33so with white basically your approach is
36:35you want to play defense
36:39possibly gain life in the process
36:41but also bring out creatures at the same time
36:45this case flyers which are
36:47only be blocked by other flyers
36:48or something at least
36:49excuse me something with reach
36:52so that's very good comparing eagle
36:54also I didn't mention this one sorry
36:56this one is one color is white and blue
36:59it's called Perry eagle and it's a bird
37:02right so has flying
37:04it's a two three so powers two toughness is three
37:07so tax for two and it can take three damage
37:10before it can take a total of three damage
37:13and other creatures you control with flying a plus one plus one
37:16so what happens is you play that down the turn three
37:18everything else
37:19you play creatures after that if possible
37:22depending on what you draw
37:23and then you can buff everybody else up at plus one plus one
37:27and then we have of course
37:30lyra the dawn bringer
37:31that's our high five drop
37:33so that's three colors and two white
37:35is legendary
37:36keep in mind you can only have one legendary at a time
37:39in play at the same time
37:40and this is really good
37:42it's a rare so in terms of if it's a physical card it's worth more
37:46and it's a five five
37:48right but here's the good thing about it
37:50it has flying as usual
37:52first strike
37:53what does first strike do?
37:55this creature deals combat damage before creatures with first strike
38:00excuse me before creatures without first strike
38:04and it says does not apply when creatures fight
38:07fight
38:09okay but anyway
38:11you do damage before they do damage
38:13so let's say you're both a five five
38:14right?
38:16because you have first strike you do the five
38:18and then his character has a zero
38:20so it can no longer
38:22right? it does five damage
38:24so once it goes to zero it's done
38:25alright so
38:27it can't do any more damage once it goes to zero
38:29also of course it has lifelink as well
38:32damage dealt by creature, planes, orc or a spell
38:34with lifelink also causes his controller to do that much life
38:37so basically when it does damage
38:41the controller which is the player will gain damage life
38:45so in this case it's a five
38:46when it does five damage you'll gain five life which is very good
38:49so it has three abilities
38:51for a five drop that's very good
38:52the only problem is it's mid game
38:54it takes longer to come out but
38:56its abilities are very good
38:59so that will, and of course when we look at the mana curve
39:03what we have is
39:05in terms of what we do is we take
39:09there's two ways looking at it
39:10one we can take the total amount of mana
39:12compared to the total amount of cards
39:14that's one way
39:14second way is total amount of mana compared to what are non
39:19compared to non-mana
39:20mana is your land right?
39:22so what we do is you add it up
39:23we say ok twelve and ten
39:25planes and irons
39:26that's white and blue right?
39:27twelve, ten, twenty-two plus four
39:30twenty-six plus three is twenty-nine
39:32and plus four is thirty-three
39:34we take a total amount
39:36so it's ninety-one
39:37so let's say
39:40thirty-three out of ninety-one
39:42was that correct?
39:43did I say thirty-three right?
39:45seven, eleven, twenty-one, thirty-three
39:47thirty-three out of ninety-one
39:48is a little bit better than three to one
39:50ideally you want two to one
39:53but in terms of actual cards
39:55so that's how many out of the whole deck
39:57the better measurement is how many
40:00mana versus how many non-mana
40:02so non-mana would be
40:04the difference of ninety-one
40:07minus how many land
40:08so it would be fifty-eight
40:10so we have
40:12sorry
40:12seven, eleven, twenty-one, and thirty-two
40:16thirty-three verse is
40:19fifty-eight
40:20so if you can get
40:23mana versus non-mana to be
40:25around a two to one
40:26or a little bit less
40:27that's better
40:29you want to have a balance of what you need
40:32according to the strategy
40:33and according to your ability to bring it out
40:35in terms of how many of each
40:37so your probability to bring it out
40:39and also
40:41early game being able to bring out more
40:44casting things like
40:45for example spectral sailors
40:47you have four of those
40:49on summon you have four of those
40:50those are one-drops
40:51and you take one-drops for the healer's hawk
40:54you have four of those
40:56charted horses two which is decent
40:59turn two
41:00thousand denials decent
41:02turn two
41:03essence scatter still decent
41:04still stutter also two
41:05because I reduce that
41:07we don't want three unless
41:09it does some extra ability
41:12and then of course
41:16turn three you have to look at that
41:18turn three, three, three, three
41:20we have a lot of three
41:20so if you look at the actual curve here
41:23what we're finding is that
41:26twelve in the deck are one-drops
41:29twenty one or two drops
41:30fifteen or three drops
41:32and then four or four drops
41:33six or five drops
41:35and zero or six drops
41:36the idea is you want to get things out faster
41:38we do have thirty three lands
41:41and
41:43of all of the cards
41:45what we have is
41:46with all of the white cards
41:47sixty percent
41:49wait
41:52sixty percent
41:53wait sixty percent white
41:54fifty percent blue
41:55no
41:56that's not right
42:00let's look at this
42:03twelve planes
42:04ten islands
42:05okay because if they're dual land
42:07they're both white and blue
42:09right
42:11so it means that there's more white than blue
42:13when we look at the curve
42:15what we have more of
42:16do we have more white cards or more blue cards
42:19that's what we're looking at
42:21we do want to
42:23consider
42:24the main factors in there
42:26we have angels and birds
42:27are going to be our main features in terms of our synergy
42:31because of other synergistic effect for both white and blue
42:36and the rest of these is just incidental in terms of what it can do
42:39but your main two are these not just in
42:42in quantity but also as it's listed in quantity
42:45oh sorry
42:48but it's alphabetic order but in terms of quantity would be angel, bird, and then specific
42:54spirit
42:54and then what we have is cleric, pirates, humans, and then scales
43:01notice that most of us are instance so that means you can play at any time
43:06shamans can be only playing on your turn just like serves you can be only playing on your turn
43:09so we add those up that's more than our instance
43:14ideally you'd like to have instance
43:16cards you can play at any time more than things you can't
43:19but it depends on the timing and what the drop is
43:23and then like I said when we add everything up
43:27so creatures 30
43:29land we have 33
43:30instance 11
43:33sorcery 8
43:339
43:366 level auras
43:37so it doesn't matter
43:39what we do is look at the total
43:41and say okay
43:44it's 50
43:46excuse me
43:4658
43:4730
43:4841
43:5050 what?
43:53oh 49
43:5458
43:55yes
43:55okay
43:55sorry
43:58yeah
43:59so it's 33 to 50 essentially creatures is 33 to 30 so it's a very good curve
44:04so that works better you want to have a balance between half and mana to bring things out
44:09but not but also enough creatures so you can get them out faster
44:13it's all about the probability and that's what the mana curve is all about
44:16keep in mind that this is actually standard format and not other formats
44:20now before we conclude I'll talk about other formats here
44:23and then for the other formats what we have is we have draft
44:27now what draft is is you have a certain amount of players and for every player there's a deck
44:34so it says okay what's so great about that
44:36what it is is everybody and you have 40 cards
44:41so what happens is you
44:44what is it 10 sorry excuse me
44:47it's 10 cards not 15 sorry
44:50boosters 15
44:51draft is 10
44:52so we have 40 card deck
44:55and so how many cards per deck times how many decks
44:59equals how much per player
45:01what happens is each player will end up having 40 cards
45:05I believe
45:07yeah
45:09and then you put 20 standard lands in
45:12the idea about it is it shows it
45:15so we have pre-constructed where we can already construct the
45:18you can already collect the cards in advance
45:20versus a draft is whatever you happen to draw from the unopened packs is what you get
45:25and the way it works in terms of the drafting is these are all sealed decks
45:30what's called sealed decks
45:31draft decks
45:33right
45:34and so it's called sealed draft right because it hasn't been opened of course
45:41and the way you draft these drafts means you get to choose which card so what happens is
45:46you have let's say each person has 40 cards right which is the standard rules right
45:52what you need to do is have 4 decks of 10 each
45:56right so
45:59so everybody draws one card and then passes it so each one of the 4 players
46:05right
46:06they will open each net each draft and then they will pick anyone that they want
46:12right so they'll get to pick it from when it's just opened right so they can pick from all 10
46:18of them
46:19and what happens is they pass it to the next person
46:23the person I going right or left
46:25whatever format they want to use
46:27right so you pass in either direction right or left and then if it's going right it continues to go
46:33right
46:33if it goes left you continue to go
46:36so you can either go clockwise going left or you can go counterclockwise going right
46:42see what I'm saying
46:44so that's counterclockwise
46:46and so each time each each time you pass it right
46:50each person gets to choose one card
46:53what you'll end up with is you'll end up with 40 cards
46:57and then once you have 40 cards you can get 20 standard lands to have that
47:03so you'll have like I said you have 40 and 20 right remember I said 2 to 1
47:06your total count will be 60 but you'll have a 2 to 1 ratio
47:12and that's good in terms of being able to
47:15the probability of being able to bring something out
47:18and that's what draft is you get to choose which one from each one of the
47:224 decks of 10 each
47:25and then you just keep passing it around
47:30so anyway that's how it works
47:32you can see here if you guys have these
47:36those these things here you can actually play
47:39these are what are called sealed decks or sealed draft decks
47:45and you see I believe the 10
47:476 packs of
47:48so if you win you get 6 packs of those
47:52I believe it's 10 each because
47:55you've got to have 40 cards
47:58okay boost but boosters the difference is booster booster packs and share 15 cards
48:04draft I believe is 10
48:06so that's the difference
48:08okay
48:10also when you play also check your mastery to see if you got any more
48:14they also give you some rewards in the game
48:17and also look at your achievements
48:19you look at you have to actually read what it says
48:23and so based upon the achievements that's applied to
48:26whatever formats you're playing in the game
48:28and it's a certain amount out of a certain amount
48:31okay
48:34so we have recommended we have the 4 achievements
48:38so that's when you click on that
48:40what it is right
48:42and then we have color achievements
48:45how many are you playing
48:48body color reds
48:49you don't play red so we play white blue
48:52blood masters white blue
48:54you have the 4 achievements
48:56this is overall what you played in terms of formats
48:59and then finally recommended
49:01is stuff that you've done in game
49:03in terms of specific things that you've done
49:05keep in mind that when you get decks
49:07what you need to do
49:08and I'm just clicking into here
49:09you need to actually use gold to do that
49:12now if you want to craft decks
49:14is when you get certain cards right
49:18sometimes they give you just
49:20uncommon rare mythic
49:22you can actually craft it
49:23so the way it works is
49:26when you go to the deck builder
49:28is you go to your deck builder right
49:30for example whatever right
49:32let's say I open this one
49:33I can say you know what I want to do
49:36I want to craft
49:39and then I can select whatever it is
49:40if it's one of these cards I have
49:43as in inside of 30
49:45if it's one of the uncommons
49:47common, uncommons, rares, or mythics
49:50I can do it
49:51keep in mind it depends on how many I have collected
49:54so let's say I have 30
49:56if I haven't already done 30 of those commons
49:59I can craft it
50:01you know what's a common
50:02it's black
50:05let's say
50:06a whitish color
50:09like a silver color
50:10that's your uncommons
50:11where's our golden color
50:12and your mythics just
50:14it will say mythic on it
50:16right so
50:18that's what that is
50:20you can actually craft that in
50:22I can select it and then click craft
50:26right and go like this
50:28and I can select how many I want
50:31one two three four whatever right
50:34or how many I want one two whatever it is
50:38it only allows me to actually do three not four
50:40so that's what it is
50:43notice with the mythics have five so
50:47I can
50:47but you can only have a certain amount in a deck at a certain time
50:50so depending on the card it will have a limitation
50:55so it's the same thing
50:56here also I can do with the commons
50:59I can select how many I want
51:01one
51:03can I be playing with current alchemy four
51:05okay so it depends on the format
51:07it will depend on how many I can do
51:09so that's an only one
51:11um
51:13also here it's also a common
51:15I can just redeem one two
51:17how many I want right
51:18it says I have a maximum of 30 I can use
51:21so that's a commerce
51:23when I scroll here I can look to see which one I want to craft
51:26it's basically duplicating the card
51:29and it depends on the quality so common uncommon rare
51:33so if it's a that one because it's a common I can
51:37I can do up to whatever the limitation for the deck is
51:41um
51:43so let's say I could do let's say four
51:45if it allows me to do four
51:46I don't know how many allows
51:50oh it only allows me to do three okay
51:52so whatever the limitation is
51:54same thing here
51:55now this is a rare you see
51:57so it only allows me to do
51:59all three of them okay nevermind
52:02healers hawk
52:04I already have a maximum of four
52:06so if it's in white means I can't do any more
52:08because I have noise here I have four
52:10and that's the maximum you can have
52:11in a deck anyway
52:14so what you want to do is look at the stuff where you can get more of
52:17now there is another way you can do it besides doing the crafting
52:21you can do it more directly within the deck
52:24and the way you do it is you go to your decks
52:27you go to the particular deck in question
52:29click edit deck
52:31and then you go to your list here
52:33I know what I'll do is for example
52:35I'll press plus
52:36okay it says red means I can't do it right
52:40so whatever let's say I want more of it
52:42if I haven't had four
52:45if I if excuse me if I don't have four of something or whatever its limit is I can add
52:50so this one I have four so I know for sure I can't have more than that
52:54unless it's a land
52:57right
52:58cooped up let's say I want
53:00let's say because I already have four
53:02let's say two guys in denial
53:05no I can't
53:06how about essence
53:07I can't
53:09how about spell stutter
53:11I can't right
53:12because you can only have two of them
53:14you have four four four
53:16spell stasis snare right
53:18can I add another one
53:19I can't
53:20I only have three
53:21and the same thing
53:23we have four all the fours
53:24you should say okay that's maxed out
53:25cloud blazer
53:26can I do that?
53:27no
53:28oops
53:29I can craft this
53:30excuse me
53:31oh I can craft it
53:33I can craft it
53:34but
53:35wait
53:38can I craft
53:40wait
53:43can I craft it?
53:50make maximum of four?
53:53yes
53:53so cloud blazer I can have three now four
53:57so that will just be added to my overall collection this is the actual deck
54:02I added one more which is maximum for cloud blazer
54:06just keep in mind we need a good balance between land and actual
54:14non-land
54:15so your standard land which is one color you can have it almost as many as you want
54:20and then for certain ones like this one can I add more?
54:24can I add more of that?
54:26no I cannot
54:26so for multicolor you can only have four
54:30especially if it's a rare
54:31this one is actually common but it's multicolored
54:34this one's a rare in terms of its commonality
54:38if it's not
54:39if it's very rare as in there's a lot
54:42there's very few of them
54:43in its quantity
54:45and
54:46it's going to be a rare
54:47and
54:47here notice we have four and we have four both of these
54:50well can we add more of those?
54:52no
54:53how about tranquil clove?
54:55can I add more of those?
54:55no
54:56how about temple of enlightenment?
54:58can I add more of those?
55:00yes
55:01so we max out the four
55:04the idea is
55:06we want to have that good 2 to 1 balance
55:08so what we do again is we add
55:10before we finish what we want to do is add
55:12look at the total cards in the deck
55:1493
55:15compared to how many mana
55:17so what we do is add up 4, 4, 4, 4, 4
55:19that's 12
55:19plus 10
55:21is 22
55:2234
55:23right
55:2434
55:2534
55:26and then 93 minus 34 is 59
55:29so 34 to 39 is actually a little bit better than 2 to 1
55:352 to 1 itself is probably sufficient
55:37we just don't want 3 to 1 because
55:40it'll take a while to get land out on average
55:44so yes
55:46and so that's how it works
55:50and you definitely want to save it
55:52so that's how we can use our crafting
55:59for things
56:00um
56:01and then of course
56:02we would
56:03what we can do is look through all the cards to see
56:05which ones are the best ones we can craft
56:08and we can do it accordingly
56:09uh
56:10what I might do is take a whole session and just go over crafting
56:13because
56:14it
56:15I can see how
56:16not only
56:17how I can play better but also
56:20uh
56:20how I can improve the deck but also
56:22what I can learn in the process
56:23now
56:24there is one other thing if you guys are interested which is the qualifier playing
56:28so this is your qualifier
56:30so if you want to
56:31uh
56:33so I think it's like a pro tour qualifier
56:35most of the stuff is in person but I think they have some internet stuff so
56:39what I'd recommend actually
56:42if you want to see pro players play
56:43to see what's winning a tournament
56:46what you want to do is just go to like youtube, rumble or any of those like social media
56:50video sharing sites
56:52and just type in
56:54you know
56:55mandolin gathering whatever
56:57on
56:57online or
56:58arena or whatever it is
57:01even if it's in person it's the same card
57:03just you
57:04the idea is it doesn't matter if you play in person or online
57:06online
57:07you understand what the cards do and that's the point
57:11alright
57:12so
57:14that will conclude our session for today
57:16so I'd like to
57:16thank all the people watching this on
57:19Facebook
57:20I do appreciate that
57:21and also people watching the recorded version here on Facebook
57:25I'd like you to do in either case
57:26I'd like you to please click the thumbs up on the video
57:29that way it will be pushed through the Facebook algorithm and more people would be able to view it and
57:33enjoy it
57:43if you haven't already please click the subscribe button that way I'll have access to all the content on my
57:54channel as I certainly do have quite a bit of variety of content on this channel for you to enjoy
58:00it
58:00it's usually subdivided by these two content on my channel as I certainly do have quite a bit of variety
58:04of content on this channel for you to enjoy
58:04and also Dungeons and Dragons online
58:06but when you subdivide it out you can see different things where I'm playing or I'm going over decks or
58:12I'm talking about tips and tricks or any combination thereof you can see from day to day different content and
58:20so when you subscribe you'll have access to that content and it will populate into your feed you know into
58:27where it's shown all the videos that you have access to it
58:31also if you haven't already please click the bell button
58:33that way you'll be notified of all my future videos that way when a new video of mine comes out
58:38you won't miss it because you'll be notified accordingly
58:41and what I do recommend is actually when you click on the bell make sure you click instant and not
58:46like one hour later 30 minutes later 2 hours later whatever it is
58:51because especially if you don't have as much time you want to be able to find what and have access
58:56to the content sooner rather than later
58:59and also for certain things where maybe you're going to play a game later you'd better to find out sooner
59:05as and again sooner rather than later so that's generally how things work
59:10alright so I'd like to wish all the people a great day whoever is watching this video whether it's recorded
59:15or in person here on YouTube so yes I'd like to wish you a great day wherever you are in
59:22the world class
59:23take it easy take care and I'll talk to you next time and bye for now
