00:02This program is rated G
00:04and considered acceptable for all ages.
00:12Previously on Renovation Resort.
00:14This entryway has got to make a huge impact.
00:17Teams scramble to make a lasting first impression
00:19with their front entries and main bathrooms.
00:21One step forward, 18 billion steps back.
00:24Tight spaces, push designs, and patience to the limit.
00:27We don't have time to fix all this.
00:30And when the dust settled...
00:31Yay! Cobra, go!
00:33...Shelon and Liz's fearless use of color
00:35earned them their first lake house win.
00:40But the fight is far from over.
00:43Oh, my.
00:44This gives me anxiety.
00:45And if anyone thinks they can relax...
00:49They're in for a wake-up call.
00:50To the Battle of Bunk Beds.
00:52Yes.
00:55The ultimate renovation competition is back.
00:58We built four brand-new lake houses from the ground up.
01:03Now, four powerhouse designer-contractor duos
01:06from across North America
01:07will take on the ultimate renovation competition.
01:10Their mission, to turn these blank slates
01:13into amazing vacation destinations
01:15in just eight weeks.
01:18The team with the best lake house
01:19will be crowned renovation resort champions.
01:22And take home $100,000.
01:27I'm Brian Baumler.
01:28And I'm Scott McGillivray.
01:30Let the lake house battle begin.
01:32This is Renovation Resort.
01:42I'm going into this competition thinking,
01:44could we win back-to-back?
01:46There is no stopping us after that.
01:48We definitely needed some rest
01:50after that last challenge,
01:52but we're ready to find out
01:53what they have for us
01:54for this week's challenge.
01:55Welcome back, everybody.
01:57Hi.
01:57Oh, hello.
01:58It's a new day.
01:59Is everyone ready for a new challenge?
02:01Yes.
02:01Well, last week,
02:03we had you working on your entry
02:04and main bathroom
02:05with Shalon and Liz
02:07leaving a very memorable mark.
02:09Well, this week,
02:10you will be tackling
02:11two very important rooms,
02:13the guest bedrooms.
02:14Now, we want rooms so irresistible
02:17that they're going to rival
02:18the primary bedroom,
02:19leaving guests fighting over where to stay.
02:21Think about welcoming,
02:23functional, flexible,
02:25whether it's friends, families,
02:27or big groups
02:28staying at these properties.
02:29Once again,
02:30you'll only have one week
02:31to pull this off.
02:32Is everybody ready?
02:33Yes.
02:34All right, then let's make it happen.
02:36Let's go.
02:36We got to go.
02:37We're behind already.
02:47Okay.
02:48Two bedrooms in seven days?
02:50It's a lot,
02:51but guest bedrooms
02:53are actually vital
02:54in a vacation rental.
02:55More beds means more bookings.
02:58However, I don't just want
02:59to pack people in here.
03:00I want to create something unique
03:02for each space in itself.
03:04For this guest bedroom,
03:05let's do a waterfall effect
03:06with the green shiplap
03:08that we already used.
03:09And I'll add in
03:10an upholstered headboard
03:11to soften it all up.
03:13And then,
03:14instead of a dresser,
03:15I want to do a workspace
03:16that will actually double down
03:18as a vanity table
03:19so people can get ready here
03:21and not fight over the bathroom.
03:23This other room
03:24needs to feel completely different.
03:26I'm thinking slate blue walls.
03:28And then a neutral toned
03:29graphic wallpaper
03:30on the ceiling.
03:32Here's the big one, though.
03:33I need you to build
03:35custom queen-size bunk beds
03:37that can sleep adults or kids.
03:40Really excited about the bunk beds.
03:42Reminds me of my kids.
03:43Not that excited
03:44about the ceiling wallpaper, though.
03:47We've got a lot going on this week.
03:49We've got a bunk bed.
03:49We've got shiplap.
03:50We've got headboards.
03:51So what I'd like to do
03:53is focus on the headboard
03:54so Tatiana can upholster it.
03:56Divide and conquer is the way,
03:57at least if we're going to
03:58accomplish two bedrooms.
04:00But we've got a challenge
04:01happening here.
04:06Oh, this is our kids' bedroom.
04:08I love this.
04:09I'm so excited.
04:10I want it to be so light
04:12and playful,
04:12but also give it
04:13that indoor-outdoor feel.
04:15So let's color trench the walls
04:17in a rich dark blue.
04:18And what if we added
04:19a stunning night sky
04:21wallpaper on the ceiling?
04:22Then we can add two twin beds
04:24so that our guests
04:25can look up at the night sky
04:26when they fall asleep.
04:27For the second bedroom,
04:29I really want to lean
04:30into the Japanese design.
04:32Let's do this gorgeous
04:33wood panel wall feature
04:34anchored by a queen bed.
04:36And then for the guests
04:37that have a little bit
04:38of work to do,
04:39let's do a drop-down wood desk.
04:41For this bedroom,
04:43I'm going to be starting
04:44with color drenching
04:45the entire bedroom.
04:46And then I'm going to start
04:47with the wallpaper
04:47on the ceiling
04:48because I've never done it before
04:50and I don't know
04:51how much time
04:52it's going to take me.
05:00All right, Mars,
05:02two bedrooms this week.
05:03What's your vision?
05:04Okay, so for this first bedroom,
05:06I love the idea
05:07of a green painted ceiling.
05:09I think it would be amazing
05:10if we did a feature wall
05:12with a hand-painted design
05:13and a luxurious queen bed.
05:15In our second bedroom,
05:17I'm thinking we do
05:18another statement wall,
05:19maybe some pattern curtains
05:20as a backdrop
05:21to these two double beds.
05:23We'll cozy up the room
05:24with Roman shades
05:25over the windows
05:26and some lighting.
05:27Ooh.
05:30So we're going to have
05:31this color
05:31on all four walls,
05:33the trim and the ceiling.
05:35All right,
05:36that's a lot of painting to do.
05:37Time for you to get going.
05:38Good luck.
05:42For the guest bedrooms,
05:43we want to create
05:44an experience that's
05:45just as inviting
05:46as the primary.
05:47This is the biggest challenge
05:48yet to have two full bedrooms.
05:51Okay, Shallan,
05:52this week's a big one.
05:53Are you nervous?
05:54I'm not.
05:55I'm actually excited.
05:56Depends on what you have for me.
05:58I just really feel like
05:59this is our chance
06:00to be playful.
06:01I agree.
06:01So in here,
06:03I'm thinking pink coral paint
06:05and a fun flamingo wallpaper.
06:07And to ground the room,
06:09retro cane side tables
06:11on either side of a queen bed
06:12with wicker basket-inspired
06:14pendant lights
06:15and lots of luxurious linens.
06:17What about a striped canopy?
06:19It feeling like
06:20you're under an umbrella.
06:21Yeah.
06:21And it'll have like
06:22a retro feel.
06:23And I'm inspired
06:24by the National Forest
06:25of the Bahamas,
06:26so I'm thinking
06:26a jungle theme
06:27for the kids' bunk room.
06:29Love that.
06:30Let's start by painting
06:31the walls
06:31a rich green color
06:33and add a jungle-themed
06:34wallpaper mural.
06:36We'll build a custom bunk bed
06:37with plenty of storage.
06:38And, you know,
06:39your neon sign in the entry
06:41was such a hit,
06:42so let's add one here, too.
06:43That's a lot of work.
06:45A jungle room
06:46and a flamingo room.
06:48Yes.
06:49Aren't you excited?
06:50I just really want
06:51the guests to feel
06:53how I felt
06:54spending my summers
06:55in the Bahamas
06:57and with my grandfather
06:58in both of these rooms
06:59take me back there.
07:00I'm just excited
07:01to pay homage
07:03to my grandfather.
07:04He was a first-generation
07:05immigrant into the U.S.,
07:07and I really am excited
07:09to tell his story,
07:11my story,
07:12through design.
07:13It's gonna be energetic
07:14like him
07:15and colorful like him.
07:17I hear him
07:18and feel him
07:20saying,
07:21my granddata.
07:24Such a good choice.
07:36At this point
07:37in the competition,
07:38everyone's received
07:39a tremendous amount
07:40of feedback.
07:41Everybody's won
07:42a challenge.
07:43Forever.
07:44So expectations
07:45are now that
07:47everybody's going
07:48to hit the mark.
07:50I really hope
07:51that this doesn't
07:52start peeling on me.
07:53That would be like
07:53the worst thing
07:55to happen.
07:56I'm getting started
07:57on this wallpaper,
07:57and I'm regretting
07:58my decision immediately.
08:00It is so hard,
08:01but at this point,
08:03I'm in too deep.
08:04I just gotta
08:05make it happen.
08:06Oh, my.
08:08Okay, that just looks
08:09like a branch.
08:09It's fine.
08:10It's fine.
08:11They'll get it.
08:11They'll get it.
08:12I have never done
08:13wallpaper on the ceiling.
08:14It's also a mural
08:16with very specific
08:18patterns of the night sky.
08:20So if a star
08:21is out of line,
08:22the judges are gonna
08:23call that out immediately.
08:24So I need to make sure
08:25that I get this right.
08:27Oh, my gosh.
08:28I did it right.
08:31I painted this yesterday.
08:33It's so humid outside.
08:35The paint's not drying
08:35and curing.
08:36I am pulling paint off
08:39on the tape
08:39that I just put on.
08:40The paint isn't drying
08:41on the ceiling.
08:42I'm pulling it back
08:43as a test,
08:44and it's pulling off
08:44the paint and the drywall.
08:46It's a mess.
08:47I'd probably need
08:48another day
08:48for the paint to dry.
08:49I could pivot
08:50by finding
08:51a pill and stick wallpaper.
08:53You're no longer
08:54able to paint the stripes
08:55and you want me
08:57to find wallpaper
08:58that might match
08:59the vision
09:00and it's got to arrive
09:01like yesterday
09:03instead of me
09:04taping the entire ceiling
09:05and finding it out later
09:06once we got
09:07the stripes painted.
09:08Luckily,
09:09I found it out now.
09:10So this gives me anxiety.
09:11It's changing
09:12the whole vibe
09:13of the room
09:14and what we were
09:15planning to do.
09:16I will find a way.
09:23It's going to be
09:25a busy couple days.
09:28I'm already worried
09:29about time
09:30and I'm getting
09:30really worried
09:31about trying to waterfall
09:32the shiplap
09:33on the ceiling.
09:34One thing I was wondering,
09:35for the shiplap,
09:36you're just going to do it
09:37and we paint it after
09:38or is it better
09:39if we paint it before?
09:41Honestly,
09:41with a ceiling,
09:42I just don't know
09:43if we're going to get to it.
09:45We should finish this wall
09:46and move on for this room
09:48because I think
09:48it'll still look good.
09:49I mean,
09:50you can always
09:51just paint the ceiling
09:52or something,
09:52but I don't want to fail
09:54because you want
09:55the ceiling cladded.
09:56That was the biggest feature
09:57in this room.
09:58Here we go again.
09:59I didn't get the waterfall
10:00in the primary.
10:01I do not want to compromise
10:02on this one.
10:03I'm trying to be smart here.
10:04I don't want us
10:05to get into a situation
10:06where we spend all the time
10:08on this
10:09and then we don't get
10:09the bed done.
10:10I'd rather come back to this.
10:12You're not going to make
10:13the time to come back to it.
10:14For the other bedroom,
10:16you are just doing this
10:16from the bunk bed
10:18to the wall.
10:19You're not making
10:20custom shelves
10:22like we're doing
10:23in other places.
10:24I am making custom shelves.
10:25It's all custom.
10:26We've got wallpaper
10:27on the ceiling in that one
10:28plus the bank beds
10:30plus the custom shelving
10:31in the corner over there.
10:32I think if anything
10:34needs deleted
10:35in these two rooms,
10:36don't you think
10:36the ceiling would be it?
10:45Of course,
10:46I would love to do everything.
10:47And I understand that
10:48and I hear you.
10:49I would love to.
10:50I think the shiplap
10:51on the ceiling
10:51would look amazing.
10:52If it was any other project
10:54and we could do it,
10:55I would do it.
10:56But honestly,
10:57this competition,
10:57we have no time.
10:58If we had to get rid
10:59of something,
11:00what would it be?
11:02I don't want you
11:02to decide on that.
11:04Yeah, it most likely
11:06will be the ceiling.
11:07It just doesn't mean
11:08I have to like it
11:08in this moment right now.
11:09No, I'm not saying
11:10you have to like it.
11:11And to get back to work,
11:13then let's stop talking here
11:14and move on.
11:16Once again,
11:16I'm not getting
11:17the full design.
11:19Like the dream crusher here.
11:21It is very difficult
11:23to work with.
11:24I can see how thin it is.
11:26But it is faster
11:27than taping and painting
11:28at this point.
11:29So the wallpaper
11:30finally arrives
11:31and immediately
11:32we notice problems.
11:33It's kind of stretchy.
11:35But I can work
11:36with anything.
11:37It's growing on me.
11:39Yeah.
11:40The pivot we had to make,
11:41it almost made the room
11:42a little bit more sophisticated.
11:44A little more Saint-Tropez.
11:46Yeah.
11:49When you're designing
11:50vacation property,
11:51you really want to put in
11:52features that will attract
11:53the largest segment
11:54of the market.
11:55You have to have
11:56a little bit of everything
11:57that will attract people.
11:58If you're too specific
12:00in a theme,
12:01you're really narrowing
12:02your revenue field.
12:03Oh my gosh,
12:04it looks so good!
12:06It looks cute.
12:07This morning you were
12:08suggesting maybe
12:08you run it on the ceiling.
12:10Mm-hmm.
12:11I'm happy to do so,
12:12but only the verticals.
12:14That would look great.
12:15Bring it all the way
12:16back to the ceiling.
12:17Easier for you too.
12:18Okay.
12:19Okay.
12:19I'm so excited
12:20for this curtain wall.
12:22It has the pattern
12:23of wallpaper,
12:24but it has a lot more
12:26texture and flowiness.
12:27Do you like it?
12:28I do.
12:30We've used wallpaper
12:31in the space before.
12:32I want to get creative
12:33and use drapery
12:35as our backdrop.
12:36I love the idea
12:37of curtains
12:38along the entire wall.
12:40I think that it'll be better
12:41to have it a little bit
12:42more spread out
12:43to see the full pattern.
12:48We're getting down
12:48to the wire here, Scott.
12:50Guest bedrooms.
12:51Guest bedrooms?
12:52For me, I'm looking
12:52at capacity,
12:54looking at layout.
12:55Like, this is where
12:56people are spending
12:57a lot of time, so...
12:58Yeah, this is where
12:59the head meets the bed.
12:59I'll check in on two,
13:01you check in on two.
13:02Sounds good.
13:02All right.
13:03See you later.
13:03Maybe not.
13:05Oh, wait,
13:05I'm going in here.
13:08Oh, it's beautiful, Liz.
13:10Look at the monkey.
13:14The mural wallpaper
13:15is full of palm trees.
13:17It's full of monkeys,
13:18and there are no monkeys
13:19in the Bahamas,
13:19but we're just...
13:21We're going with it.
13:21Hi there.
13:22Hi.
13:23What's happening?
13:24A mural.
13:26It's a jungle in here.
13:27It is a jungle in here.
13:29I love a good jungle, though.
13:32Hello.
13:33We got a visitor.
13:35What's the plan
13:36for the guest bedrooms?
13:37A queen-over-queen bunk bed.
13:39This is something
13:40you're building custom.
13:41Yeah.
13:44This is the room
13:46for the kids.
13:47Liz is building
13:48a custom bunk bed.
13:49Where are the bunk beds
13:50going?
13:50Right here.
13:51A little bed below,
13:52and then twin over it,
13:53like a loft, almost.
13:54Okay.
13:55Yeah, so that
13:56if there's not kids,
13:57they still have
13:58a nice place to sleep.
13:59They don't want to sleep
14:00in a bunk bed.
14:00We have niches
14:01built into the wall.
14:02Okay.
14:03I've seen this done well.
14:04I've seen this done poorly.
14:06You've got to think
14:06about when kids are in the bed,
14:08some of them want
14:08to sit up and read a book,
14:09and if the light's
14:10right at your back,
14:11it really is
14:13an awkward layout.
14:14This challenge
14:14is two separate rooms,
14:16so there's a lot
14:16of work to do this week.
14:18A lot of times
14:18in this competition,
14:19the downfall can be
14:20we ran out of time
14:21where we didn't have
14:21the time to do it
14:22the way we wanted to.
14:23Feeling that pressure,
14:24for sure.
14:25Yeah.
14:25Do you have any
14:25experience with this?
14:27I got three boys at home,
14:28and I've built
14:30numerous bunk beds.
14:31How's everyone
14:31at home doing?
14:33Everyone's doing good.
14:33It's been an experience.
14:35It's actually been
14:35good for me to realize
14:36how much I love them.
14:38Yeah.
14:38They're ready to see me,
14:39though, and I'm ready
14:39to see them.
14:40Are they rooting for you,
14:41you think?
14:41Yeah, of course.
14:42Yeah.
14:43I was told not to come home
14:44if I don't win, so...
14:46So you might be
14:47staying here for a while.
14:49Hopefully not.
14:50Oh.
14:51I'm going to leave you to it.
14:52Thank you so much.
14:54What's the plan
14:55in the front pit?
14:55The Flamingo Room.
14:56We're going for it in there.
14:58Feathers, pink everywhere.
14:59Oh, you're just
15:00going for it in there.
15:01All right, have fun.
15:03Thanks.
15:03See ya.
15:24With the niches,
15:25I am a little bit
15:26concerned about time
15:27because we got to do them
15:28in between the existing studs,
15:30and I just don't have time
15:31to reframe everything out.
15:32We're just trying to center it
15:33and make it look good,
15:34so another time issue.
15:36Do you notice anything?
15:38Yeah, my niche
15:39is going to be smaller.
15:41If Scott and Brian
15:42bring up that this niche
15:43is too small,
15:44I'll give you $100.
15:45How about $100,000?
15:48Wait.
15:49Let it settle.
15:49I know.
15:51See?
15:51Beautiful.
15:52You're getting good.
15:54We are trying to get stripes
15:55on the wall,
15:55and they have to be perfect
15:57because this is the focal point
15:58of this room.
16:00We have a lot of details
16:01in these two rooms,
16:02so I want to make sure
16:03we're ahead of the curve.
16:04Okay, teams,
16:06come and meet Brian
16:06and I on the dock.
16:09That's the spot.
16:11It looks like Scott and Brian
16:12are having a yard sale.
16:14Why is there a pile of junk?
16:15Okay.
16:20Hello.
16:21Hi.
16:22So we know you are deep
16:24into your guest bedroom builds,
16:26but Brian and I
16:28have a little surprise for you.
16:30During demolition,
16:31as we walked through the resort,
16:32we didn't throw everything away.
16:34That's right.
16:35We secretly held on
16:36to some items
16:37from the original resort.
16:39These aren't just old pieces.
16:40They are artifacts
16:42with memories
16:43and a whole lot of history.
16:44And now it's your turn
16:45to give them new life.
16:47For this week's design detour,
16:49your challenge
16:50is to repurpose, upcycle,
16:52and reimagine
16:53these salvaged artifacts,
16:56then weave them meaningfully
16:57into your guest bedroom designs.
16:59It all looks like junk to me.
17:01Now, Shalon and Liz,
17:02as winners of the entry
17:04and main bathroom challenge,
17:05not only do you get to choose
17:06any of the items for yourself,
17:08but you also get to play
17:10a little matchmaker.
17:12Oh, no.
17:12And you can assign an item
17:14to each team.
17:17This can go one of two ways.
17:19You can either help the competition
17:21or hurt the competition.
17:22So the strategy needs to be
17:24that we give them a piece
17:26that is hard to reinvent.
17:28Who spied something they want?
17:29I would love the brown chest.
17:32I, too, like the idea of a chest.
17:34Good thing there's two.
17:35I also like the idea of a window.
17:37Meridad and Taylor,
17:38what are you thinking?
17:39We'll get what we get.
17:40I just hope that whatever we get
17:43aren't those chairs.
17:44I don't know what you're gonna do with them.
17:47There's so many things like this chest
17:50that would fit perfectly in our room as is.
17:54My one upcycle thought was the big sign.
17:56We're going back and forth
17:57about what we should get.
17:58That's kind of cool.
17:59Liz is saying that we should get a ladder,
18:01and I'm like,
18:02but we have to make sure
18:03that we reinvent this ladder.
18:04We can't use a ladder for a ladder.
18:06It could be suspended from the ceiling.
18:08Tatiana and Thomas really want the chest.
18:10There's two of them,
18:11and we're thinking we might want the chest.
18:13What's your favorite trunk?
18:14The brown one.
18:15Okay.
18:21A grin trunk.
18:23Aw.
18:24Oh.
18:26Oh.
18:29Oh.
18:33Oh, no.
18:36Quack.
18:36Seriously?
18:37Oh.
18:42Creole?
18:43For Marcy and Melissa,
18:45we give them two chairs.
18:46I'm sure they can make something out of it.
18:48Or not.
18:48I like the chairs.
18:49The chairs are my second choice.
18:51Uh-oh.
18:52Now they're digging deep.
18:53Now they're digging deep.
18:55Taylor,
18:55your lips are quivering with nervousness.
18:59Milk anyone?
19:00Yeah.
19:01Yeah.
19:04I felt Japanese vibes.
19:06Oh, my goodness.
19:08It looks so nice.
19:09Remember it.
19:12The real question is,
19:13what have you saved for yourselves?
19:14Yeah, I'm excited to see this.
19:17Oh.
19:19Oh, cool.
19:21Yeah, those are cute.
19:22Those would be cute.
19:23Oh.
19:23Climbing all the way to the top.
19:25I bet you are.
19:26Yeah.
19:27Yeah.
19:28Everybody ready to get back to work?
19:29Yeah.
19:29Take your items,
19:31get back to your guest bedroom.
19:32Let's go, Taylor.
19:32Hit right out.
19:33Let's go.
19:33Let's take your table.
19:36I know.
19:37I think it's great to keep some of this stuff
19:39and incorporate it into the new resort.
19:41When you see something that's got potential added value,
19:44it's hard to get rid of it.
19:45So we kept them around,
19:47and now it's time for the competitors
19:48to figure out what to do with them.
19:50It's going to be a tough one for me to do
19:52because I like how it looks.
19:54I don't really want to change it too much.
19:55I love the idea of keeping one as a chair.
19:58Imagine that this wall is light green.
20:01Mm-hmm.
20:01Bolt this against the wall.
20:03I'll try my best to sand this down.
20:05Are you okay with the tone?
20:06I love the tone.
20:07Unless we did something wild on the inside.
20:11Using the seat portion as a tray
20:14for like breakfast in bed or something.
20:16You want it on the wall in between the two windows.
20:19Yeah.
20:20So that each bed has a nightstand table in the middle.
20:22Use the chicken wire to suspend greenery,
20:25and your LED sign is right here saying,
20:27it's a jungle out there.
20:29I love that.
20:37There, Dad.
20:38Staying in.
20:39How we doing?
20:39I'm doing all right.
20:41How are our guest bedrooms coming along?
20:43Slowly but surely,
20:44making sure we have all the details set forward.
20:46Okay.
20:47Hi.
20:48What are we taping?
20:50We're going to bring in a really pretty sage green,
20:52and this is going to be our main accent wall.
20:54It's a little bit more budget-friendly
20:55than buying a wallpaper.
20:57A little more labor-intensive.
20:58A little more labor-intensive,
20:59but it's all going to be worth it, right?
21:02Yeah.
21:02What's your strategy this week?
21:04Details.
21:05Yeah?
21:05Yeah.
21:06Criticism was a little tough to hear last week.
21:09I know you weren't enjoying Brian's feedback.
21:11I take it personally.
21:13The sides of those doors,
21:14it took away from the entire room.
21:16They weren't functioning properly.
21:17They didn't open.
21:17It looked like you hacked the edge of the door
21:20so that it would open.
21:21Yeah.
21:22It's something you look up to, obviously,
21:23and that's not the quality of work
21:25you want to put forward.
21:26Especially those functional pieces,
21:27like a bed or a table or a bench,
21:30they have to work.
21:31So pay attention to those details this week.
21:33Now that we've had a few challenges under our belt,
21:36we know it's all about the guest experience.
21:38It's all about walking the door,
21:40knowing what to do, where to do it,
21:42where to find things,
21:43social media moments for marketing.
21:45We're at the point of the competition now
21:47where a single detail missing,
21:50that could be what loses the competition for you.
21:52So what is it you're doing this week
21:53to make sure we don't have a repeat of last week?
21:56More changes of plans,
21:58but also thinking two, three steps ahead
22:00rather than just kind of just going with the flow.
22:03This is a marathon.
22:04It is.
22:04Keep that in mind to power you along.
22:06Like, yes, it's about the win.
22:07Yeah.
22:07But even more importantly,
22:09it's getting to the end and showing you made it.
22:11We're feeling good?
22:13Yes.
22:13All right, no more changes.
22:14All right, best of luck.
22:15I will get out of your hair
22:16and let you guys get back to work.
22:17I'm looking forward to it.
22:18Thank you so much.
22:19See you later.
22:21I think at this point in the competition,
22:23all the teams have learned a lot
22:24from not only our feedback and the guest judges,
22:27but from each other
22:28and the feedback that we've given to other teams.
22:30I'm really hoping we don't see poor craftsmanship,
22:35people running out of time
22:36because their plans weren't perfect.
22:38That would be really upsetting at this point.
22:41Just to let you know,
22:42this is a very difficult wallpaper.
22:45Of course.
22:46Wallpaper is already tricky on walls.
22:48Now we're doing it on the ceiling.
22:50And I don't do a lot of wallpaper.
22:52You need to pull up a little bit.
22:54Crazy idea here.
22:55What if we just painted the ceiling?
22:58For the bunk bed build,
22:59I'm going to save a little bit of time
23:01and do a prefabricated bed for the lower.
23:03And then for the top,
23:05I'm going to do a loft style bed.
23:06Kids are going to love this.
23:08Yeah.
23:09Shut up, but keep on talking.
23:11This is so cute.
23:13It's got to be an easy way of doing this.
23:15Oh, my God.
23:26Give me the ladder through here.
23:29I'm excited about the property.
23:31I'm excited about the transformation.
23:32And Brian and I, as always, have our own projects.
23:36There you go.
23:37Ladder is on.
23:39In hospitality,
23:41when you're looking to rent out a lake house,
23:42arguably the most important part of that lake house
23:45is the lake front.
23:47Having this communal space
23:48that is so open and wide,
23:50we've got incredible beach,
23:51we've got incredible property,
23:52there has to be something really spectacular
23:54to bring people here
23:55and to keep them coming back.
23:57It's heavier when it's full of air.
23:58It's like you, Brian.
24:00Oh, my goodness.
24:02All right.
24:02Ultimate Guest Experience.
24:04Let's get this thing in the water.
24:08All right.
24:12Bouncy, bouncy.
24:15Oh, there.
24:16I got you.
24:18Tomey, Brian.
24:19Tomey.
24:20I need to spin it.
24:23This is the spot.
24:24We nailed it.
24:25Where are you going?
24:26I'll be right back.
24:30Brian!
24:32Brian!
24:32Woo-hoo!
24:34What a jerk.
24:44Definitely going to get an arm workout.
24:46One of the things that I love
24:48is that the competitors,
24:49they're taking our feedback
24:50and they're evolving
24:51and they're listening
24:52and they're learning.
24:53But there's something else happening
24:55that I did not expect or anticipate.
24:58They are picking up on each other's strengths
25:01and learning from each other.
25:08What are you making?
25:09It's a railing.
25:10Are you making a bunk bed?
25:11You got it.
25:12I'm making a bunk bed, too.
25:14Oh, yeah?
25:14Yeah, maybe.
25:15Battle of the beds.
25:17To the battle of bunk beds.
25:18Yes.
25:19Agreed.
25:33These bunk beds are time-consuming,
25:35but this is one project
25:37I need to take my time with.
25:39I've made a few bunk beds.
25:41I've got three young boys.
25:43Currently, they're all
25:44in the same bedroom.
25:45It's a three-tier bunk bed
25:47and they love it.
25:48We have a lot of fun.
25:49My wife's a rock star.
25:50She's amazing.
25:51She supports me so much.
25:53At a younger age,
25:54I had that, you know,
25:55work hard, play hard mentality.
25:57But, yeah, it caught up with me.
26:00The life I was living at that time
26:02led me to a very dark stage.
26:05That's when I met my wife.
26:07We just kind of connected spiritually.
26:10She's a big part of my success today.
26:13She deserves a lot of credit.
26:16It's been tough being away
26:17from my wife and the kids,
26:19but at the same time,
26:20it just opened up my appreciation
26:21for my family,
26:23like how much I love them,
26:24and it's been a really good experience.
26:26Couldn't ask for a better life right now.
26:28Yeah.
26:39It's going to be a beautiful backdrop
26:40for this room.
26:41I'm hoping in these guest bedrooms,
26:43we're going to see them address
26:44the guest experience,
26:45guest retention,
26:46making the rooms feel comfortable
26:48and elevated.
26:49Oh, it's so cute!
26:51But also being able to handle
26:52large volume of individuals.
26:55That's the magic.
26:59Oh!
27:00Shoot, shoot, shoot, Melissa!
27:01Come help me!
27:03We need to hang the art,
27:05the lamp,
27:06and then I'll get in here
27:07and start decorating.
27:09We still have so much
27:10on our to-do list.
27:11It's a lot.
27:12We're feeling it.
27:15We still have to get
27:16the rope lights up.
27:18Liz still has to mount the sign.
27:20We still have to dress the room.
27:21And then I have to put in
27:23all the details
27:23and make sure that it's perfect.
27:25One hour left, teams.
27:26One hour!
27:28Ah!
27:28I can't get this thing off!
27:47Seven, six, five, four, three, two, one.
27:53Time's up.
27:54Come down to meet us
27:54at the fire station.
27:58We're feeling really good.
28:00I think we put out
28:01two really strong bedrooms
28:02and I'm excited to see
28:04what the judges have to say.
28:05I honestly feel pretty proud.
28:06It turned out really nice.
28:07I'm very happy
28:08how the rooms turned out.
28:11Congratulations on finishing
28:12this week's guest bedroom challenge!
28:16Good job!
28:17Is everybody feeling ready
28:19for their guest experience?
28:21Mm-hmm.
28:21Yeah.
28:22It is?
28:22Yeah.
28:22To help us take a closer look
28:24at your guest bedrooms
28:25and the creative ways
28:26you reimagine
28:27those resort treasures,
28:28we've invited someone
28:30who knows better than anyone
28:31how to repurpose and renew.
28:33She's a DIY expert
28:34who proves you don't need
28:35big money for big style.
28:37Please welcome
28:38Renovation Pro
28:38and host of
28:39Beer Budget Reno,
28:40Kristen Kutz.
28:41Kristen!
28:43Hello!
28:44Welcome to Renovation Resort!
28:46Thank you!
28:47Hi, team!
28:48Hi!
28:48Hi!
28:48Hi!
28:49Hi!
28:49Well, this week,
28:50the teams tackled
28:51their guest bedrooms
28:52and they were challenged
28:53to upcycle an item
28:54from the original resort.
28:56Kristen, why don't you
28:57tell the teams
28:58what you'll be looking for?
28:59For me,
29:00a great guest bedroom
29:01should feel warm
29:02and welcoming
29:03but also really practical.
29:05I'll be paying attention
29:06to how well you use the space
29:07and those little design touches
29:09that make it memorable.
29:11Well, teams,
29:12we'll be back.
29:16This is Tatiana and Thomas
29:19and Cedar Shore
29:20is their theme.
29:21It's a West Coast vibe.
29:22All right.
29:25Nice.
29:25Oh!
29:26Whoa!
29:27Oh, there we go.
29:28This is nice.
29:29Oh, my goodness.
29:30Huh.
29:30This really turned out.
29:32Double queens.
29:33You can get four people
29:35in this room.
29:36At least.
29:36At least.
29:37This is custom built.
29:39Originally,
29:39the light fixtures
29:40were kind of behind the pillow
29:42and I said,
29:42just be aware of that.
29:43If you're sitting up at night,
29:44you don't have a light
29:45behind your head.
29:46Yeah.
29:46They switched that.
29:47They used the piping
29:49and painted it
29:50and did their own rails
29:51with that.
29:52That seems like
29:52a budget-friendly option.
29:53Maybe just a couple
29:54more bars in here
29:55just for safety.
29:57I do like the ceiling.
29:58A little detail up there
29:59with the paper.
29:59It feels fun.
30:00I do see they have
30:01their design detour
30:02in the back.
30:03Okay, there it is.
30:04So they've used it
30:05sort of like a little
30:06storage entertainment
30:07kind of piece.
30:08These items were
30:09supposed to be reimagined.
30:11The use is a little
30:12bit different,
30:13but I don't know
30:14if they took
30:15the challenge to heart.
30:16Looks like they made
30:17the ladder custom, too.
30:19Good for them.
30:19Wow, that's strong.
30:20It feels dirty?
30:20It's strong.
30:22Scott the squirrel
30:23and Brian the bulldog.
30:25What?
30:26What?
30:27No.
30:28You are a bulldog.
30:32Oh.
30:33It feels very calm
30:34in here.
30:36That looks like
30:37a custom headboard
30:38to me.
30:38The fabric goes
30:39right over end
30:40to end around
30:41the windows.
30:42I love the woven
30:42blinds, too.
30:43There's not a lot
30:44of storage.
30:45You've got
30:46your suitcases,
30:47you've got
30:47your clothes.
30:49Oh.
30:50There you go.
30:51There's your storage.
30:52Hello.
30:52There's your storage.
30:54That's awesome.
30:55You got the high chair,
30:56you got your luggage
30:56stands.
30:57Mm-hmm.
30:57There you go.
30:58So it was smart.
30:59Even though
31:00not a lot of money
31:01has been invested
31:01in here,
31:02it feels high-end.
31:03It feels substantial.
31:04Excellent execution.
31:06Tatiana and Thomas
31:07saved big by leaning
31:09into smart custom builds
31:10and maximizing heads
31:11and beds,
31:12pulling it all off
31:13for just $15,000,
31:14a strategic approach
31:15that could put them
31:16on top.
31:20So here we've got
31:21Driftwood Dunes.
31:22They are sisters,
31:23Marcy and Melissa.
31:25Great.
31:25It's very cozy.
31:29Oh.
31:30Ooh.
31:31Okay.
31:32Look at this.
31:32Wow.
31:34Interesting choices.
31:35I like the design.
31:36It does feel
31:37really fresh to me.
31:39Is this the design detour?
31:40That is part of the chair.
31:43That's kind of cool.
31:44What I love
31:45is that you get
31:46a bit of history
31:47of this place,
31:48but they've brought it
31:49in a way that it still
31:50ties in with their design.
31:51That's not all.
31:52Look behind you.
31:54Ah!
31:55That's all right.
31:56So smart.
31:57I love that.
31:59You know,
31:59painting stripes
32:00can be challenging,
32:01but it's very crisp
32:03and clean.
32:03And even the details,
32:05like the trim around
32:05the window,
32:06the baseboards.
32:07They've done the guest
32:08experience here as well.
32:09A candle and...
32:10Granola,
32:11Sister Bond,
32:12Marcy and Melissa.
32:13These are really
32:14thoughtful details
32:15that they've put into this
32:16that would make
32:17someone want to stay here.
32:18The only thing I would say
32:18that I'm a little
32:19disappointed about,
32:20there were two chairs
32:21and they don't even have...
32:23Well, there's two rooms.
32:24Oh, my gosh.
32:25Oh, my gosh.
32:27What?
32:29I was not expecting
32:30that at all.
32:30I haven't seen
32:31that in a while.
32:32Wow.
32:40Oh, my gosh.
32:41Oh, my gosh.
32:43I was not expecting
32:44that at all.
32:45Is there, like,
32:45a show about to happen
32:46in here?
32:47Wow.
32:48A whole feature wall
32:50of curtains.
32:51This is going to be
32:52polarizing.
32:53Like, will wallpaper
32:54not have done it?
32:55I just feel like
32:56it was an interesting idea.
32:58Not sure if I love
32:59the execution.
33:00Wait, the curtains
33:01are also these cushions
33:02in front.
33:02They've brought it in
33:04all throughout the room
33:05and they've kept
33:06a chair as a chair here.
33:07That fabric looks great
33:09on this chair.
33:09So the whole room
33:11is color-drenched
33:12in blue.
33:12Yes.
33:13But it's light
33:14and it's airy
33:15and I think the white
33:16softens it up.
33:17No one's going to be upset
33:18about this room.
33:18It's a great room.
33:20It's this feature wall.
33:21I just can't decide
33:23if this is make it
33:24or break it for them.
33:26Marcy and Melissa
33:27hit the mark
33:28on guest experience
33:29and their design detour,
33:30spending a total
33:31of $15,000.
33:32But will one risky
33:34design choice
33:34derail their chances?
33:39Look at this
33:40pop of color.
33:41Shallan and Liz,
33:43Coral Cove.
33:46Oh!
33:47Oh, my gosh.
33:49Okay.
33:50Wow.
33:51I love this.
33:52I'm getting the vibe
33:53in here.
33:53I love the way
33:54they did the wallpaper.
33:55Feels gift-wrapped.
33:56Feels like that's
33:57the lid to a gift box
33:58and then the rope detail
34:00divides off your
34:01peachy color,
34:02which works really well
34:03with the wallpaper,
34:05the rattan-style
34:06headboard,
34:07even the nightstands
34:08and the hanging lamps.
34:10Very interesting decisions.
34:12This is so colorful
34:13and fun.
34:14They went for it,
34:15but it doesn't feel
34:16over the top
34:16for some reason.
34:17It's just enough.
34:18Guest bedrooms
34:19can be forgettable sometimes.
34:20You are not
34:21going to forget
34:21this room.
34:22I don't wonder
34:22if the other one
34:23is similar.
34:24Let's go find out.
34:26Oh!
34:27No!
34:28Oh, there we go.
34:30Oh, my gosh.
34:31Okay.
34:32It's a jungle in there.
34:34Love the monkey
34:35climbing on.
34:36It bleeds right
34:37into the wallpaper
34:38right there.
34:39Look at this light fixture.
34:40It's genius
34:41for their theme.
34:43It's so much fun.
34:44They've incorporated
34:45their ladder.
34:46There's the design detour.
34:48Oh, there's
34:48the other ladder.
34:49Oh, my gosh.
34:51This is amazing.
34:53What kid is not
34:54going to go
34:55absolutely bananas
34:56for this?
34:57This is a social media
34:58moment.
34:59People are going
34:59to take photos of this
35:00and post it on their social.
35:01It is free marketing
35:02over and over again.
35:04One of my concerns
35:05is getting up
35:06to the bunk bed.
35:08It does need
35:08a little extra railing
35:09or something
35:10to hold on to.
35:11If it was up
35:12to a bunch of kids,
35:13this is a spot.
35:14I thought this was
35:14the adult's room.
35:15Yeah, it could be.
35:16Yeah, for me.
35:18Shalon and Liz
35:19spared no expense,
35:20investing $21,000
35:22to create two
35:23one-of-a-kind spaces.
35:24But will this tropical
35:26escape appeal
35:26to all guests?
35:31This is Taylor
35:32and Meridad.
35:32Taylor and Meridad
35:33have a Japanese-inspired
35:35space,
35:35and Moonlight Bay
35:36is that thing.
35:37All right.
35:38I'm getting that already.
35:47I'm loving this detail.
35:49This is giving me
35:50very Japanese,
35:50like the sliding panel.
35:52Yes, I carried it
35:53into the ceiling,
35:53which is a really nice detail.
35:55Storage on the wall here,
35:56too, which I think
35:56is really cool.
35:57Is this a desk?
35:58Oh!
35:59It is a desk.
36:00That's cute.
36:01So very different.
36:02This is the first time
36:03we've seen the entire
36:05feature wall orientated
36:06on the window wall.
36:07Now that I look at it,
36:08I'm like,
36:09it totally makes sense.
36:10This is the long wall.
36:11Maybe the best use
36:12of space we've seen.
36:13For me,
36:14the challenge
36:14that I'm seeing
36:16is some of the details.
36:17I can see the nail holes.
36:20Could have just spent
36:20another five minutes
36:21filling them real quick
36:23before he went on
36:24and stained everything.
36:25I don't see any evidence
36:27of the design detour
36:28in here,
36:29so I'm hoping to see it
36:30in the second bedroom.
36:32Let's go take a look.
36:33Oh!
36:34Whoa!
36:35It's moody in here.
36:37Wow, this is a switch.
36:39Oh, boy.
36:40Into the night sky.
36:41Ah!
36:41This is a shot
36:43up through the trees.
36:44Yes, and the light
36:45fixture is like the moon
36:46if it's nighttime,
36:47but it can look like
36:48the sun during the day.
36:49That's a really
36:50interesting feature,
36:50but all I'm seeing
36:51is the wrinkles
36:52in the paper there.
36:54Yeah, the installation
36:55on the ceiling
36:55is not great,
36:57but I love the idea.
36:58I do see
37:00our design detour.
37:01This was a table.
37:03Okay.
37:03A couple of the legs
37:04came off,
37:05used one at the back
37:06to kind of be like
37:06a little backstop piece there,
37:08and then it's
37:08a little nightstand.
37:09For kids,
37:10it's exciting.
37:11A little star pillow,
37:12the stars on the chalk walls,
37:14the stars on the ceiling.
37:15This is a departure
37:16from what we've seen
37:17from their dad and Taylor.
37:19They're really kind of pushing it,
37:21and I like that.
37:22Taylor and Mare Dad
37:23took a big swing,
37:25spending $24,000
37:26on their Moonlight Bay theme,
37:28delivering two
37:28completely different spaces.
37:30It's a risky move
37:31that shows they're here to win.
37:34All very different spaces,
37:36and we need to pick a winner.
37:37It's going to be tough.
37:38So many different styles here
37:40and so many different things
37:41to consider.
37:42This is a hard choice.
37:55Looks like everybody
37:56understood the assignment
37:57this week.
37:58You've exceeded
37:58our expectations.
37:59Every single one
38:00of these guest bedrooms
38:01packed a design punch.
38:03Really great job.
38:04Tatiana and Thomas,
38:05you have a great handle
38:06on what's required
38:07for a short-term rental.
38:09Heads and beds,
38:10you've got four people
38:11in the front room,
38:12two in the back.
38:13I love the bunk bedroom
38:14with a family of four,
38:16my husband and I
38:16and my two small kids.
38:17All four of us
38:18could have fit in that room.
38:19It's a really great
38:20use of space.
38:22I like the pipes
38:23for the safety bars
38:24and for the steps,
38:25but I don't know
38:27if the placement
38:27is exactly where
38:29it needs to be.
38:30I would add a couple
38:31more bars to finish it off
38:32just for safety.
38:33The one challenge
38:34that I had was actually
38:35with the design detour.
38:36I was looking for it
38:37to be reinvented
38:38a little bit more,
38:39for it to almost serve
38:40a different purpose.
38:41The cherry on top for me
38:43was the second-guest bedroom.
38:44The way you had designed
38:46the back wall
38:47with the ceiling
38:48felt so comfortable in there.
38:50The headboard,
38:51the upholstery on the back,
38:52the one right to the ground,
38:53I thought was great.
38:54Integrated with the wood
38:55on the wall.
38:55Where's the storage?
38:57Boom.
38:57Open up the bed.
38:58I have a one-year-old
39:00and to not have to bring
39:01a portable crib,
39:02to not have to bring
39:03a high chair,
39:04like those were things
39:04that would just make this
39:06a really easy
39:07booking opportunity for me.
39:08Job well done.
39:09Totally aligned
39:10with the rest of your design.
39:12I thought it was great.
39:13Yeah.
39:13Well, thank you.
39:14Marcy and Melissa
39:16walking into the front
39:17guest bedroom,
39:18you had the guest experience
39:19nailed with the baskets there
39:21and you had the granola
39:22and the candle.
39:23When I checked in,
39:23you were just starting
39:24to tape off the wall
39:25for the paint.
39:26It was a great detail
39:27on the wall
39:27and it was really well done.
39:29The way that you reimagined
39:31those chairs was incredible.
39:33The tray on the bed,
39:34the back of the chairs,
39:35the hooks on the wall.
39:36I thought it was a really,
39:37really clever use of that.
39:38I felt like I could, like,
39:39curl up with a good book there
39:40and it just felt
39:41really comfortable.
39:43The first bedroom,
39:44beautiful.
39:45Everything incorporated nicely.
39:47Then the larger room,
39:48I came in,
39:49I was like,
39:49there's a show
39:50we're gonna start.
39:51The back wall's gonna open.
39:53What's gonna happen?
39:54And then I was like,
39:55okay, no,
39:56it's just they're hanging there.
39:58I don't know
39:58if the curtain wall
40:00had the intended impact
40:02that it was gonna have,
40:03but I love that you
40:04took that curtain
40:05and incorporated it
40:06into the throw pillows
40:07and onto the chair
40:08and I thought the rest
40:10was absolutely incredible.
40:12Shalon and Liz,
40:13we opened that door,
40:14I was like,
40:15they have gift-wrapped
40:17this room.
40:17The ceiling detail
40:19coming down the wall,
40:20tying into the wallpaper detail,
40:22it really did feel like
40:23the gift to your guests.
40:25I love the lamp,
40:26the little autumn
40:27invention front.
40:28You took a really big risk,
40:30but you guys nailed it.
40:32Walking into the next room,
40:33there's monkeys
40:34hanging from the trees,
40:35there's flamingos.
40:37It was just so much fun.
40:38The entire thing
40:39felt like a social media moment.
40:41I felt like a kid in that room,
40:43I really did.
40:44The netting on this hot bunk,
40:45very unique.
40:47I really love the way
40:48that you made the light fixture
40:50look like vine.
40:51It's a jungle in there.
40:52You said it yourself
40:53with the neon side.
40:55You use a ladder
40:56to be a ladder.
40:57It lines up
40:58with the other steps,
40:58but the top one didn't.
41:00So there's some work to do
41:01to put another railing
41:02or something,
41:03somewhere for people
41:04to hold on
41:04when they come down.
41:05Then I was like,
41:07where is the other ladder?
41:09And I was like,
41:10there's a ladder up there.
41:12You found a really great balance
41:14with these bedrooms.
41:16Excellent work.
41:17Thank you so much.
41:18Taylor and Meridad,
41:20your first guest bedroom.
41:21The way you had shifted the room,
41:23the bed was off to the other side.
41:25I'm like, that makes sense.
41:26You got the window
41:27on either side of the bed.
41:28You nailed it.
41:29I really love that back wall.
41:32The wood detail you put in there,
41:33the stained one by threes.
41:35It gives that feeling
41:36of that paper dividing wall.
41:38To make it feel
41:39very Japanese in there,
41:41I thought that was
41:41a really smart use
41:43of your budget.
41:43I saw a couple gaps
41:45and tear-out spots
41:46where I was like,
41:47if he had another hour in here,
41:48I knew exactly
41:49what he would have done.
41:50I love the kids' bedroom too.
41:52I love like the moonlit feel
41:54in there,
41:55the light fixture
41:56that looked like a moon at night
41:57and the sun during the day.
41:58I just thought it was so clever.
42:00Putting the wallpaper
42:01on the ceiling,
42:01that's a really challenging install.
42:04There was a couple wrinkles.
42:05I saw that.
42:06I'm like, okay,
42:07thankfully it's up on the ceiling
42:08so it's not too close.
42:10The design detour,
42:11I like that you had created
42:13a nightstand for that
42:14and you found like
42:15the perfect spot
42:16to tuck it in there.
42:17We're a little limited
42:18on heads and beds
42:19but other than that,
42:21I thought it was
42:21a beautiful space.
42:22You should be proud
42:23of what you did.
42:23Thank you very much.
42:24Thank you so much.
42:25With so many stunning
42:27guest bedrooms,
42:28deciding who would take home
42:30this week's win
42:31was harder than ever
42:32but we did come
42:33to a unanimous decision.
42:35So, the winners
42:37of Renovation Resort's
42:38guest bedroom challenge are
42:43Shallan and Liz.
42:44Oh my God,
42:48back to back.
42:50Back to back.
42:51Knee back, knee back, knee back.
42:53Yeah.
42:57Three peak.
42:58And back to back wins.
43:00Shallan and Liz,
43:02congratulations.
43:03You have won
43:04a vacation
43:06to the Walt Disney World
43:07Resort in Florida
43:09where beloved stories,
43:11iconic characters,
43:12and fun-filled adventures
43:14come to life.
43:15It is truly a magical place.
43:17Have the greatest memories there.
43:20Woo!
43:23For the rest of you,
43:24don't despair.
43:25The competition is not over.
43:27There are just a handful
43:28of challenges that remain
43:30standing between you
43:31and the title of
43:32Renovation Resort champions.
43:35And the $100,000 grand prize.
43:39So it's time to rest up
43:40because you're going to need it.
43:43Next time on Renovation Resort...
43:45Go for it.
43:46...the teams take on
43:46their final spaces,
43:47the living room and deck.
43:49It's giving!
43:50Give it!
43:50Get back to work!
43:51...one last chance
43:52to prove that they've got
43:53what it takes.
43:54All right.
43:55...with massive spaces
43:56comes massive risk.
43:57I can't worry about
