00:00Welcome to Florida.
00:02We're having a party!
00:04Home to theme parks, golden tans and 400,000 Brits.
00:08This one is the one with the view.
00:10Wow!
00:11Who've made the Sunshine State their new home.
00:14I feel blessed every single day.
00:16I'm living the American dream. I definitely am.
00:18They've swapped drizzly winters and gas bills for new careers
00:22and seemingly endless fun in the sun.
00:25Two, one, yay!
00:28Get it right and life in Florida can be like a dream come true.
00:32I get to drive a convertible. It's fabulous.
00:35But getting here and staying here takes hard work.
00:38Good job, good job. Keep it going team!
00:40Grit.
00:41Bah!
00:43And determination.
00:44The glamorous side of living in Florida.
00:46These are the Brits who've made their own Escape to Florida.
00:54Today on Escape to Florida.
00:56This is what it's all about.
00:59Sister Syve and Nasa finally move into their swanky new Miami offices.
01:04This is what every plastic surgeon dreams of,
01:07is, you know, having their oversized office to match their oversized ego.
01:12And have a lot to unpack before they can find a kettle.
01:15So just don't look. Don't just...
01:18Okay.
01:20It's a bit of a mess in here.
01:21All right.
01:22Holiday rental owners David and Gina face an uncertain future.
01:26This is the devastation. This is the reality of a hurricane.
01:30As they decide whether to start all over again at 60.
01:34We're all here to see if we can make a decision what we're going to do about the business.
01:39And it's a big day for Mum Laura.
01:42Three, two, one, go Chief!
01:46As wife Lindsay puts her in charge of home schooling the kids.
01:50She just likes to play up to the...
01:52Oh, I don't know what I'm doing.
01:54She knows what she's doing.
02:02In Miami, looking good is a way of life.
02:07And there are two siblings who work hard keeping the city pretty.
02:11Saif and Nasa.
02:13This is usually where Nasa hangs out.
02:17Behind here, checking patients in and out.
02:20I'm originally born and raised in Ireland.
02:24And I now live in Miami where I work as a plastic surgeon.
02:32Surgeon Saif has been in Miami since 2020, but moved to the USA 14 years ago.
02:38I did medical school in Dublin.
02:41I worked in Dublin for one year.
02:43And then at the time I could see the opportunities weren't really there.
02:47So I came to America to do general surgery training.
02:51But I secretly all along wanted to do plastic surgery.
02:55So he's on the schedule?
02:57Yeah.
02:57He's good to go?
02:57Okay, sweet.
03:00So I had to do the five years of general surgery.
03:02So I was in Philadelphia doing that.
03:05And then I went to the Midwest.
03:07Did three more years of plastic surgery.
03:10Worked as a plastic surgeon in Indiana for five years.
03:13And then finally I got here to Florida.
03:16I was kind of hoping that moving to Florida would solve all my problems.
03:19And yeah, it did.
03:22But there was someone missing.
03:24I have two dogs, so it's a little bit chaotic.
03:26You can't have nice things when you have puppies.
03:29So I'm not going to point out that they've chewed all the corners of the sofa.
03:31I'm Sive's little sister.
03:32I moved to Miami at the start of 2020 and I work with Sive.
03:41All right.
03:41Any questions?
03:42Not at this point.
03:43Okay.
03:44All right.
03:44We can go back to work then.
03:45Okay.
03:46Let's do it.
03:47Yeah.
03:47Well, Sive is creative and innovative.
03:50Paperwork is my time to shine.
03:51I used to be a primary school teacher and then I worked in school administration.
03:55So me and paperwork, we're good.
03:58So I'm Sive's office manager.
04:00She manages the staff, which is good because I don't like being a bad cop.
04:05I love being a bad cop.
04:07And both are hooked on that Miami lifestyle.
04:10This is what it's all about.
04:11I love it here.
04:12I love Miami.
04:13It's such a fun city.
04:15The people are beautiful.
04:16The scenery is beautiful.
04:17There's so much to do.
04:18You can have whatever kind of lifestyle you want.
04:20If you want to be a party girl, you can be a party girl.
04:22I retired.
04:23There's so many options.
04:24But living in Miami isn't cheap.
04:27In order to stay in Miami, you need to make money.
04:32Probably the second most expensive city in America.
04:36Maybe one of the most expensive cities in the world to live in.
04:39But I understand why.
04:41You get what you pay for it.
04:46Sive and Nasa have worked hard and built up a successful business.
04:50Did I give you enough time?
04:51Yeah.
04:52Alright.
04:55So successful, they've outgrown their current workspace.
04:59We went ahead and bought a new office space.
05:02And it's about like three times the size of this one.
05:06More than three times the size of this space.
05:08It's huge.
05:09The sisters have taken a big gamble.
05:12And invested everything in their new dream surgery centre.
05:16But there's a problem.
05:18We were supposed to be in the new space 12 months ago.
05:21Yeah.
05:21And we were supposed to be there four months ago.
05:22Than we were supposed to be there last week.
05:25Yeah.
05:25But like this is it.
05:26We can't do any more pushbacks.
05:28But the sisters need to get moving.
05:32In the coastal resort of Sarasota.
05:36Live David and Gina.
05:41What an amazing view.
05:43Check this out.
05:48I'm Gina from Manchester.
05:52I'm David.
05:54Also from Manchester England.
05:55We'll fight over this chair obviously because it's the comfy one.
05:59Show them how you pull it out.
06:00No and then I'll go flying backwards.
06:05The couple moved to Florida back in 2004 with their three children.
06:10And they haven't looked back.
06:11It reclines like this.
06:16And you can push it back like this.
06:18We met in a nightclub.
06:20I was the barmaid.
06:21He was the pot collector.
06:25This is the life.
06:26Yeah look.
06:27Great view and watch the telly.
06:28The lifestyle keeps us here.
06:31You know.
06:31The weather.
06:32The boating.
06:33The whole living outside.
06:36You know.
06:36You're not coming home at the end of the day.
06:39And you're stuck behind the TV.
06:40And it's pouring down with rain.
06:42And it's dark outside.
06:43Dark outside.
06:45This is the pond outside the back.
06:47And there's gators in here.
06:49I think he's over there.
06:50Yeah.
06:51Having a sunbathe.
06:52Massive one popped out yesterday wasn't he?
06:54He was like lay down here sunbathing.
07:01And since moving to Florida.
07:03This is one of the main reasons why we moved here.
07:06It's paradise.
07:07The lovebirds have made hay while the sun shines.
07:11Oh this is lovely.
07:13Take the rest of the day off.
07:14Yeah that'd be nice.
07:16So our business is vacation rentals.
07:21Holiday lets.
07:21So we have studios.
07:23Mainly one bedrooms.
07:25We have a two bedroom and a three bedroom.
07:26If you're paying us.
07:28You're welcome.
07:31But six months ago.
07:33The couple lost everything.
07:36This is what we've had to deal with.
07:38These are our prized possessions.
07:39This is all we've got left.
07:41From the devastation.
07:44The reason we're living here.
07:45Is because our home was devastated.
07:48Through the recent hurricanes.
07:49We've spent hours and hours and hours.
07:53Trying to dry them out.
07:57Hurricane Helene turned David and Gina's lives upside down.
08:04Look at these.
08:05They were just babies.
08:08Luckily we had this condo to move into.
08:10But we did move out of a nice house.
08:13Three bedroom.
08:14Which was flooded.
08:16Up to three foot.
08:17We lost everything below that.
08:22Alongside losing their home.
08:23The couple's holiday let business.
08:25Was also destroyed by the hurricane.
08:28We've been here 20 years now.
08:31And we've built up a great business.
08:33And it's just totally devastating.
08:34To see it all washed away.
08:36In a matter of a few hours.
08:40Everyone holds a memory to us.
08:45Gina and David are starting to rebuild their life.
08:48Pretty happy that.
08:49We didn't lose them completely.
08:54But the couple have a major decision to make.
08:57Do they continue their business in Florida?
09:00No sparkles Gina.
09:02Not there.
09:05We obviously don't want to go through this again.
09:28Just outside Orlando.
09:30Not far from a certain mouse's house.
09:33You find an enchanted place.
09:39The picture perfect town called Celebration.
09:42That was originally built by the Walt Disney Company.
09:46Full of peace, tranquility.
09:49And a couple from Scotland.
09:50My microwavey.
09:52The microwavey.
09:53The microwavey.
09:54The microwavey.
09:54We are the crazy people from Scotland.
09:59I'm Lindsay.
10:01I'm Laura.
10:02Mind blown.
10:09They move to Celebration in 2023.
10:13The Disney bubble.
10:15Yeah.
10:16That's what some people call it.
10:18Yeah.
10:19Other people say it's a bit like Stepford-wise.
10:22White picket fences.
10:23White picket fences.
10:24White picket fences.
10:26It was one of the kind of areas within Orlando that seemed to be safer, which was obviously
10:31important, and had that community vibe.
10:35Living in Florida has been a lifelong dream of Laura, who works as a compliance consultant.
10:43We have a long love affair with Florida.
10:47From when I was four, I was first brought here by my mum and dad, who are no longer with
10:53us.
10:53And I just feel a closeness to them here.
10:58I used to come over here to get my tattoos.
11:01My artist is here.
11:03This was what I kind of got to manifest the move.
11:07So it's the mountains of Scotland, basically, the palm tree for Florida, the rainbow for our family, and the paper
11:15plane because we travel.
11:16I knew for a long time ultimately I wanted to end up here with my family.
11:22I met Lindsay and started bringing her here on holiday.
11:27We then came over for fertility treatment as we wanted to grow our family.
11:33And it was a success.
11:36Twice.
11:41Darcy's now nine and Bella's seven.
11:44And I never call my mum mother because I don't like that.
11:50Yeah, so you don't call my mother.
11:51I only call her mummy or mum.
11:53I like that.
11:55I think it's like a mama bear thing.
11:57I like that.
12:02The bottom is mine and the top is Darcy.
12:05We both always knew all the time we wanted a big family.
12:09And baby number three is due soon.
12:13Seven months pregnant with our first boy.
12:18So, yeah, it's going to be very different having a boy in the house, isn't it?
12:22Yes.
12:24But we're very excited, aren't we?
12:26Yes.
12:28And the little fella will be an all-American boy, not just conceived in the US of A like Darcy
12:34and Bella, but born there too.
12:37Goodness help this poor boy.
12:39A house full of girls.
12:41Estrogen-filled house.
12:44What's your next ingredient?
12:47Cheese.
12:50This perfect family of four in the perfect small Florida town need to make room and get ready for their
12:57new family member.
12:59This is my masterpiece.
13:02With Lindsay due to give birth soon, it's time for mama bear Laura to take the lead with the kids.
13:08You're going to be absolutely fine. You're obviously their favourite, so...
13:18In Miami, sisters Saive and Nasa have another busy day meeting clients at their plastic surgery clinic.
13:31Yes.
13:32All right.
13:37Hello.
13:38Hi. How are you?
13:41Bianca?
13:41Today Saive is consulting the patients on one of their newer procedures.
13:46Today you want to talk about rib remodeling, isn't that right?
13:49I can't seem to get that look that I really want.
13:53Right.
13:54I mean, day to day is a combination of seeing patients before surgery, seeing patients after surgery and operating, which
14:02is the best part.
14:03I do mainly body at this point. I used to do a lot of face. Don't tend to do much
14:08of that anymore.
14:09I have some niche procedures as well.
14:13You're already very slim girl.
14:15In somebody like you, like we're seeing kind of two to three inches.
14:22While Bianca gets changed for the next part of her consultation, Nasa's having trouble with a different kind of operation.
14:31I have a great passion for locking myself out of storerooms. It happens maybe...
14:36You're very good at it, aren't you?
14:37Yeah, I'm actually really good at it. Yeah, like you said I didn't have any special talents.
14:41Well, there you go. It's locking myself out of storerooms.
14:44This happens so often that Nasa's on first name terms with the building's handyman.
14:49Ricardo, it's Nasa in Zweedado 3.
14:54Do you remember before I locked the door and you helped me with the ladder to open it?
15:02I did that again.
15:08You just left? Okay.
15:10Normally Ricardo is my hero and he comes and fixes all the little blunders that I make, which happen fairly
15:15often.
15:16But he's gone home and I don't know how to fix it. But I need to get in here.
15:22While Nasa continues with her keyhole surgery to get into the storeroom, it's back to Bianca for Scythe.
15:29Lower three.
15:30Yeah. Basically what we do is it's about here, here, here.
15:36I love plastic surgery. I remember thinking when I was training that it seems like it's quite creative and no
15:44two surgeries are the same.
15:46Whereas in general surgery, for example, it kind of follows step one, two, three, four, and it's kind of the
15:51same thing every time.
15:53Whereas plastic surgery, it's artistic and you get better and better and better. Like the sky's the limit.
15:59So, any other questions?
16:01But it's not all art. The sisters also need the business to be profitable.
16:08OK, so I have a quote for surgery.
16:10How much do I have to give down to, like...
16:13In order to confirm the date, it's going to be a 20% deposit.
16:16And then we would want a payment in full about three weeks before surgery.
16:20But total is $17,000 with everything.
16:23That $17,000 and more like it is going to be crucial to fund the sisters' plans for their new
16:29premises.
16:30OK, bye. Thanks so much for coming in. Take care.
16:35Back in Sarasota, David and Gina are picking up the pieces.
16:41This is where we used to live. This is our home. Or what's left of it.
16:49Six months ago, married Mancunians, Gina and David's home was devastated by Hurricane Helene.
16:56Wow. Oh, my goodness.
16:59I've forgotten about... You forget? You just forget, don't you?
17:02It's really bad.
17:05David and Gina were away when the hurricane hit in September 2024.
17:10What a mess.
17:12So we were in England, visiting my mum, and then we went to Benidorm.
17:17And then we got a phone call off Jonathan, our youngest, and he says,
17:21Mum, I think you'd better come home.
17:22And then he'd shown us some pictures and we thought, got on the next flight back.
17:29Helene was the deadliest hurricane to hit the US in a decade and left a 500-mile trail of destruction.
17:36There is the corridor into the next room.
17:39This wall, it's that wall there that had the TV on it, and all this furniture was just floating around
17:46when we came in.
17:51And then the next one hit.
17:52And then the next one hit.
17:53Yeah.
17:53And we got a foot of water, and we got this massive wind.
17:57But it went on the electrics.
17:59No swimming today.
18:03Hurricane Milton hit Sarasota just less than two weeks later.
18:07And this time, David and Gina were in Florida to witness it firsthand.
18:13It was scary.
18:14It was scary. No hurricane shutters anymore. They all blew it.
18:19So, obviously, as it's heading to you, it's hitting you from one side, so all the trees blow that way.
18:24Then when it comes over you, it's the eye of the storm, and it's just all still.
18:28Still. Quiet.
18:29So, chaos is going...
18:30It's mad. It is totally mad.
18:33It's deadly silent.
18:36It's weird.
18:36And then it starts again.
18:38This was a bedroom here.
18:40Was a bedroom.
18:42That was a closet.
18:45Water came in here. Everything was floating around.
18:49Like a washing machine.
18:53David and Gina are determined to rebuild their dream home.
18:57And this was my shower, as you can see.
19:00Not anymore.
19:03The couple are just waiting for the permits to start renovating and hurricane-proofing their property.
19:09This is our dream home.
19:11We don't want a big mega mansion.
19:12We just want a really nice, comfortable family home in a fantastic location.
19:18So, we've got to figure out, again, like, how much is it going to cost to put back?
19:24The insurance is going to help us a bit.
19:30The insurance and their savings will cover the restoration of their family home.
19:36Who wouldn't want to live here like this?
19:39It's our little piece of paradise.
19:42But the future of their holiday-led business is less certain.
19:46We've got to figure out what is the plan.
19:48Yeah.
19:49Do we rebuild?
19:50Or do we retire?
20:03In Miami, sisters Saive and Nassar are on the way to check out their new clinic.
20:16The lease is up in our office in four weeks.
20:19I was hoping we would move this week, but I'm not sure if that's going to be possible.
20:25It's the biggest investment and the biggest risk of their lives so far.
20:29The problem is, we're going to be homeless in five weeks.
20:33Every week that we're not in here, we're losing money.
20:36Like, a lot of money.
20:37Yeah, because we're, like, paying double.
20:38We're paying double rent, we're paying another surgery centre.
20:42Yeah.
20:43I don't even want to think about that.
20:44We're going to be ready.
20:45There is no option.
20:47Yeah.
20:47At this point...
20:48We didn't budget for another option, so there is no other option.
20:52Along for moral support is one of Nassar's dogs, Baby Love.
20:57They put millions of dollars into this project, so every detail needs to be perfect.
21:02For the past about two years, we've been working on this project.
21:06Building out two operating rooms.
21:08Four treatment rooms.
21:09Four treatment rooms.
21:11Our own lovely offices exactly like we wanted everything.
21:15So, yeah.
21:16It's our baby.
21:18One thing the sisters won't be changing is that view.
21:22I remember coming to see this when I was still a lawyer's office, and this is what sold me on.
21:26Yeah.
21:27Like, because it's stunning.
21:28You got the water views here.
21:30Lots of celebrities live here.
21:32But the point is, we're never going to be obstructed.
21:35Like, they're not going to build up here.
21:36Yeah, they can't.
21:36Because these are $30 million mansions right here.
21:39Yeah.
21:39Enrique Iglesias lives in here.
21:40Like, you're not supposed to make emotional purchases, but this was definitely an emotional purchase.
21:45It was 100%.
21:45An emotional purchase.
21:47And what's the point of spending millions of dollars on an office if you can't have a little fun with
21:52it?
21:53This is what every plastic surgeon dreams of, is, you know, having their oversized office to match their oversized ego.
22:00And one thing that Saif has always wanted is finally hers.
22:05Her very own Lou.
22:0720 years of work so far is culminating in this Lou with a view.
22:11It's probably my greatest achievement right here.
22:14It's stunning.
22:15It's stunning.
22:18I blame Miami.
22:20Me too.
22:20Miami did this to us.
22:22We were very grounded, normal people.
22:24But five years into it.
22:25Well, she wasn't.
22:26But I was.
22:28I used to be normal.
22:29Yeah.
22:30Yeah.
22:30Miami does this to me.
22:31Yeah.
22:32This new office needs to be paying for itself.
22:35And soon.
22:36But it's nowhere near ready.
22:38Wow.
22:39Um, okay.
22:40So just don't look.
22:42Don't, just.
22:44Okay.
22:44It's a bit of a mess in here.
22:46All right.
22:46Medical equipment, especially in the United States, is incredibly expensive.
22:50Yeah, I had no idea.
22:52Some of the equipment is brand new.
22:54Some of the equipment is refurbished.
22:57And most of the equipment was bought from out of state and is getting shipped here.
23:03Uh, which is a little nerve wracking.
23:05Has been a logistical nightmare.
23:07Yes.
23:07Yes.
23:08The building works should have been completed, but the contractors are still here.
23:12I was kind of hoping the lights would be up by now.
23:15We have to build, like, structural support.
23:17Okay.
23:18To hold these lights.
23:19I'm pretty sure that they lift the brackets.
23:21Oh, wow.
23:22In Chicago.
23:23Yeah, yeah, yeah.
23:23So now they have this situation.
23:25It's going to be more expensive to get brackets for these lights than to order new lights.
23:30We're going to make it work.
23:32Yeah.
23:33The cost of buying and equipping this surgery has already dug very deep into the sisters' pockets.
23:40At this point we've invested well over seven figures.
23:43Well over.
23:44Several times.
23:45Yes.
23:46A lot.
23:47Yeah, the pressure's on.
23:48We have no option but to succeed.
23:51Yes.
23:53If the new clinic isn't fully operational in five weeks' time, the extra cost to their
23:58business and their income will hit very hard.
24:01So the lights, like, priority, we've got to get those up.
24:05We need to go through all the boxes, yeah, because everything, all the equipment has to
24:08be installed, it's got to be inspected.
24:10Yeah.
24:10So we've got to do that, like, right now.
24:12It's time for these sisters to start doing it for themselves.
24:25The picture-perfect town of Celebration, a suburb of Orlando.
24:30This is only our gallery.
24:32Up here is my mum's school.
24:38Where Scottish mums, Lindsay and Laura, have chosen to raise their daughters, Darcy and
24:43Bella.
24:44I actually made these at art class.
24:48We're from little seaside towns, so that was important to us, that we could walk around
24:52with our kids.
24:57Although the cost of living is higher, the peace of mind is priceless for Laura and Lindsay.
25:04So Darcy sits here, and this is my space next to the window.
25:13Since moving to the USA, the couple have also decided to homeschool their kids.
25:18Oh, and also we have the treasure map that is Peter Pad, Wendy's waterfall, the rainforest.
25:29And this is their classroom.
25:31It gives us more time with the girls, quality time, and then the second thing is safety.
25:38So for us, putting them in a school where you have to go through metal detectors and do drills
25:44and where to hide is not for us.
25:47It's not for our family.
25:48This is Darcy's drawing place.
25:51So when she's done with her school work, she places it in here in the post office.
25:57So do I do.
26:00I think if you're homeschooling in the UK, you're seen as the crazy mother that is like,
26:05why would you homeschool? Like, why would you want to be with your kids all day?
26:09Like, how are you going to teach them? How are you going to...
26:11There's definitely a stigma.
26:14But in the US, around 3.7 million children are homeschooled.
26:20Our mum is the best teacher ever made.
26:23She's like the principal and mum's like the teacher.
26:27I'm going to learn. I'm going to learn.
26:30We're going to learn together.
26:32You have to find a lot of patience.
26:34It's your own kids, remember?
26:35They have an attitude and some days they don't want to do it.
26:38And you have to find this patience within you that...
26:42It's hard to find.
26:43Ready?
26:44Yes!
26:46We've got a lot of friends that have homeschooled children,
26:49so the girls get a lot of social interaction.
26:51The Fraction Pizzeria.
26:53Ooh, exciting.
26:54So we've got a couple of friends that we're going to hang out with later.
26:59But not before double maths.
27:02He takes one whole pizza and he cuts it into slices.
27:08Compliance consultant Laura is starting to juggle teaching with work more and more.
27:14How many did Dino cut?
27:16Three.
27:17OK.
27:18And then how many did Nina serve?
27:20Two.
27:21Lindsay was predominantly teaching until she got pregnant.
27:25So I kind of took over a bit more, just so that she wasn't doing so much.
27:29And we joke that I'm the principal.
27:31So when principal mamas in town, they behave a little bit differently.
27:38And with baby number three due soon, the pressure is on principal Laura to be even more hands-on.
27:44How many slices again did Dino cut it into?
27:47Four.
27:49The family are heading out with another of their homeschooling friends and her kids,
27:53who also live in celebration.
27:57Yeah.
28:00Laura's stepping up and is in charge of today's activities.
28:07Hi!
28:08Hi!
28:09How are you?
28:10Come on in!
28:11Hi guys!
28:12Hello!
28:14You look awesome!
28:15I love your hair!
28:16So cool!
28:30Gina and husband David own and manage ten vacation homes by the beach in a popular area of Sarasota.
28:38All right, so we are on our way to Siesta Quay.
28:43For 20 years, they've run a successful holiday apartment business until September 2024, when the hurricanes hit.
28:52We've not had income for six months.
28:55Hurricane Helene had come in from the Gulf and it had completely washed over Siesta Quay.
29:01Yeah, crazy.
29:02Twenty-two, twenty-one years, we've never had a hurricane hit us directly.
29:06And it hit, and it hit bad.
29:12While Gina's at their temporary home, David's on his way to inspect the apartments.
29:16We can't keep putting hundreds of thousands of dollars back into something.
29:21It's risk and reward.
29:23That's one of the terms that's used out here.
29:25So we've got to figure out the risk to the reward.
29:28You know, is it worth doing?
29:30David and Gina own the land outright, so they need to decide whether to start again or sell-up.
29:37To help them, David's meeting an expert.
29:39His daughter.
29:41Lisa, my daughter, who's a real estate broker here.
29:45They're going to be interesting to see what her opinion is.
29:48You know, I don't always agree with everything.
29:51Because, you know, I'm old school.
29:56The holiday lets are a short walk from Siesta Beach, often ranked as the best in the USA.
30:03But David's family business has seen better days.
30:07Hi, Dad.
30:08Hey.
30:09Good to see you.
30:10Thanks for coming out.
30:14I got the energy.
30:16We're fortunate.
30:17We've got the funds.
30:18We can do it.
30:20It's just, do we want to have all the hassle, the time and the expense?
30:24This is how high the water came in.
30:28So, up to my waist, basically.
30:30How scary is that?
30:33I mean, three feet, the whole island was underwater.
30:38It's hit us three ways.
30:40Deposits given back, no income stream, and then it's the cost of the renovations.
30:47It's devastation.
30:48I mean, you know, it's years and years of work.
30:51Be careful.
30:55Right now, it's peak season.
30:56We'd be like, every one of these would be sold out every night back to back.
31:01Premium rates, and now we're just back to square one.
31:05Worse than, actually.
31:07To rent one of David and Gina's three-bedroom holiday lets will cost up to $500 a night.
31:13Every time I look at something like electrics, air conditioning, it's all dollar signs.
31:24If they cut their losses and sell the land to a developer, it would be worth $3.5 million.
31:34What's your initial thoughts?
31:36This is going to be expensive.
31:44To do a project like this is at least half a million dollars.
31:48That's $500,000.
31:49That's a lot of money.
31:51It's a lot of stress and a lot of time.
31:53This is the devastation.
31:54This is the reality of a hurricane.
31:57And there are no guarantees when it comes to the future.
32:00Got to be realistic.
32:02Yes, today's a beautiful day.
32:03The sun's out.
32:04It's absolutely amazing.
32:05This is what we're here for.
32:06But we've got hurricane season heading our way.
32:09Do we want to pour all this money into, not just the money, the time, the stress,
32:14just to get hit by another hurricane and be devastated?
32:17It's a lot to consider.
32:20It's the time, the cost.
32:23We have to look at, do we sell it to an investor now and just take the money and run?
32:29Or in two years' time, everybody's rebuilding.
32:32These are going to be worth an absolute fortune.
32:35Or do you want to retire?
32:36This could be your opportunity to get out and be done.
32:41It's time for the family to decide the future of their business.
32:45Don't even know where to begin.
32:47It's crazy.
32:52It's crazy.
32:53It's crazy.
32:57It's crazy.
32:59It's crazy.
32:59It's crazy.
32:59Back in celebration...
33:06Home-school Darcy and Bella are off on a field trip with mums Lindsay and Laura.
33:12Look left.
33:14Look right.
33:19They've been joined by their neighbour, Fasenya, and her four kids.
33:23Are we safe to go?
33:26I met Lindsay.
33:27The kids were all in the St. Dan's school.
33:29The children are best of friends, we're best of friends, and we're doing the homeschooling
33:33together.
33:33It's been a great journey.
33:37With Maine teacher Lindsay due to give birth to their son soon, wife Laura's been stepping
33:43up at home, and now away.
33:46We've got six kids today that I have to learn to be able to keep an eye on at one
33:50time.
33:51And Lindsay and her friends are so good at that.
33:54I'm just not used to it as much, so I'm getting trained up.
34:00Are you guys hungry?
34:03And Laura's in charge of the post-picnic activity today.
34:07There you go.
34:09Sharing is heavy.
34:12And she needs to be top of the class.
34:15We've got a treasure hunt quiz for the homeschool kids today.
34:20So let's see if they're as excited about the treasure hunt when they realise inside the
34:23eggs is questions to test what they know and what they've learned this week.
34:31Say it with me.
34:32Three!
34:33Two!
34:34One!
34:35Go!
34:35Cheese!
34:36Cheese!
34:37Oh, you find them?
34:48They found all of us.
34:50What?
34:55Good job, everybody!
34:59Egg hunt done.
35:00Time for Laura to get cracking with the educational quiz.
35:05Are you ready?
35:07Open them up.
35:08Let's see what we got.
35:11Can you tell me three words that begin with the sound shh?
35:19Shells!
35:20Yeah!
35:23Lindsay's third pregnancy has been tough.
35:26We're a high risk pregnancy due to like a rare condition that we have at the moment and it's a
35:34high anxiety pregnancy.
35:38You can't be that clever.
35:39It's not loud.
35:41You're so smart!
35:43It's the unknown at the moment, right?
35:45Everything is unknown.
35:46We don't know when I'm going in hospital.
35:48We don't know what the delivery is going to be like.
35:50For me, I'm worried about two people, you know.
35:54She just has to worry about him inside, but I obviously really worry about her.
35:58So, she's done amazing so far and I know she'll do whatever she needs to to get both of them
36:03home safe.
36:09Lindsay might have to go into hospital at any time to keep her and her baby safe.
36:16Yes, girl!
36:18High five it.
36:20Good job.
36:22Home schooling will be solely down to her wife, Laura.
36:25So, I have no doubt in her ability.
36:28She just likes to play up to the, oh, I don't know what I'm doing.
36:32She knows what she's doing.
36:33Well done.
36:34I like, I'm amazed how smart all of you guys are.
36:37You could teach me a thing or two.
36:39It calls for a celebration in celebration.
36:42We're going for ice cream!
36:44Woo!
36:45Okay!
36:49And it's not just Lindsay who's been impressed with Laura today.
36:53I got this for the test.
36:56It was good and it's fun to learn with.
37:03Laura's passed with flying colours.
37:06Hey guys, I found her!
37:08Woo!
37:09There you go.
37:11Aw, you're welcome.
37:18And the family are ready and prepped for their baby boy to join them.
37:22We're excited.
37:23It's an exciting thing that's coming.
37:25So, yeah, we're really looking forward to it.
37:28You need to get a napkin as well and wipe your mouth.
37:36In Miami.
37:41Sive and NASA's new clinic is behind schedule and they have five weeks to get it open.
37:47A lot of this equipment, I don't know if you know, there was a surgery centre with brand-new top
37:53-of-the-range equipment shutting down in Chicago, so I kind of swooped in and bought it all.
37:58You just bought everything?
38:01Two days ago, we took delivery of all the operating room equipment. I'm not really sure what we have yet,
38:07because I don't have a medical background. I haven't opened it yet.
38:09Sive ordered everything, I don't know what she ordered.
38:12Sive and NASA have put their life savings into this venture, so they're making every penny count.
38:17Okay, I got the scissors.
38:18All right.
38:19Let's do this.
38:19Let's go.
38:20Okay.
38:21This is a lipo machine, right?
38:23Exactly.
38:23Yeah.
38:24If you're a plastic surgeon in Miami, your lipo machine is like your knife for a surgeon.
38:30Like lipo, we do lipo with everything.
38:32You know, you can't go wrong with lipo.
38:34Lipo is our friend.
38:35Yeah.
38:35Yeah.
38:35They fill it up.
38:37Yeah, so this is where all the fat goes.
38:39Yeah.
38:39Yeah, so we fill this up.
38:41Canisters and canisters.
38:42The boxes of equipment fill two operating rooms, so they need an extra set of hands.
38:48And just in time...
38:49Oh, hey.
38:50Look who's here.
38:52Hey.
38:53How are you?
38:54You set's my boyfriend, I guess.
38:57You set's her fella.
38:58That's my fella.
39:00Begin by removing all clothing from the patient's chest.
39:04Oi, oi.
39:05He's great.
39:06He's Cuban.
39:08He's a typical Miami guy.
39:09He's an architect who specializes in healthcare, actually.
39:13So he builds hospitals.
39:15His projects run between 200 and 300 million.
39:18Yeah.
39:18So he kind of thinks differently.
39:20We're not on the same page.
39:21Yeah.
39:22Yeah.
39:22But on this project, you set knows he's not the boss.
39:27So I came to kind of say hi, not to work.
39:30It's every time.
39:31You set, come here.
39:32Come here, you set.
39:37This is a great table.
39:39It is a great table.
39:40We paid a lot of money for this.
39:41Yeah, I didn't.
39:42This was one of the things I got for a day.
39:45They had no idea how valuable this was.
39:47I got this like super cheap.
39:49Whenever you're buying refurbished equipment, you're relying on that seller to send you everything
39:55you need.
39:56Yeah.
39:56So, yeah, that can be a little bit nerve-wracking.
40:00There's also no way to be certain that the equipment that we bought works until we have it.
40:05Ooh.
40:06Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
40:07Look at that.
40:08Like, damn.
40:10That is fancy.
40:11I don't usually have that function.
40:14So I've took a gamble buying this discount gear, but it seems to be paying off.
40:19Oh, yeah, these are German.
40:23Nice.
40:24Nice.
40:24These are very fancy.
40:26I'm used to, honestly, the surgery centers I go to at the moment.
40:29They basically have a knife and a fork and a spoon and have to operate with that.
40:32These are nice.
40:33Look at that.
40:34It's smooth.
40:35Sold me all of this for like $5.
40:37No.
40:38Yeah.
40:39And like each of these instruments is probably worth like $300.
40:42Although there is a lot to do.
40:44Nice.
40:45All right.
40:46Good girl.
40:48They're baby love.
40:50After a good three hours.
40:52More.
40:53Yeah.
40:53Perfect.
40:54Okay.
40:55We're good.
40:56It's starting to take shape.
40:57We've got most of the equipment in the operating rooms.
41:00We've got our beds in the recovery room.
41:02This is too heavy.
41:03This is too heavy.
41:03We can't move this.
41:05I think we've done all that we can today.
41:07So I think we're done.
41:08Yeah.
41:10Saive and Nasa are one step closer to opening their new clinic.
41:16Come here, baby girl.
41:18Oh, baby girl.
41:19Oh, my nerves are at me.
41:21Are you?
41:21Yeah.
41:22So this surgery, I mean, it's going to be fabulous.
41:25I think it's going to be amazing.
41:28Time to take a moment, sit back and just enjoy that multi-million dollar view.
41:35I can see our apartment.
41:36You can see our apartment.
41:37And the cruise ship.
41:38Yeah.
41:40And the plane's coming in from Ireland.
41:42Once we get over this, it'll be worth it.
41:44Well, we have no other option.
41:46Yeah.
41:47Yeah, we're committed now.
41:54Two hundred and thirty miles away in Sarasota.
42:01It's looking good out here.
42:03Cheers.
42:07Gina and David have gathered the family at daughter Lisa and granddaughter Lucy's house.
42:12Want some more lettuce in there?
42:16Yeah.
42:16Now we use the tongs.
42:18Hello.
42:22Luckily, Lisa's home escaped the hurricanes with minimal damage.
42:27We want it Thursday and Friday.
42:31Tonight, we're going to sit down while we're all here, see if we can make a decision what
42:35we're going to do about the business.
42:36Are we going to rebuild it or are we going to look at investors to buy it out as it
42:41is
42:41and think about retiring?
42:43Oh, boy, it's so windy.
42:45But even out of hurricane season, the weather's not playing ball.
42:49This can be great if it breaks.
42:53Don't drop the meat.
42:56Don't fall on the pool.
42:58Wow, it is really windy.
43:00Okay, that's good.
43:00That's good.
43:01Yep, perfect.
43:06Table sorted.
43:12Five baked potatoes.
43:13They're cookies.
43:14Oh, I love a bit of killer.
43:17The family can get down to business.
43:19Where am I sitting here?
43:21Wherever you want.
43:22Would you like a sweet potato or regular?
43:24A sweet potato, like my personality.
43:28As well as Lisa and Lucy, also helping Gina and David is their youngest son, Jonathan,
43:33and Lisa's partner, Tyson.
43:36I'm a meatatarian anyway.
43:38Their other son, Adam, in California, has already voted to rebuild.
43:43We saw a lot of damaged property today.
43:46We have a lot of decisions to make as a family.
43:51So, what are your thoughts on what you saw today, Dad?
43:55After taking everything into consideration, I just think we've got...
44:00We're in a great position.
44:02We already own the land.
44:04We already...
44:05The buildings are damaged, but anything is repairable.
44:08I've got the energy to do it.
44:09We've got the contacts to do it.
44:11My vote would be to rebuild.
44:14I agree with that.
44:15My vote is that as well.
44:21It's looking promising the vote could go David's way.
44:24We've got a lot of work ahead of us, but I'm actually excited about it.
44:28I just can't wait to get going.
44:30Not just yet, there's someone at the table who's been very quiet.
44:34What are your thoughts, Mum?
44:36We're going to rebuild, but it happens again.
44:40Gina's done.
44:41I'm done.
44:42Where are you going?
44:44Home.
44:45To retire.
44:46Where's home?
44:47No, here.
44:48I'm staying here at home, home.
44:50Sarasota.
44:51A decision seems to have been made.
44:54Alright, so we've decided.
44:56And we are going to...
44:59Refill!
45:01I'm 60 years old, so I'm not ready to retire mentally.
45:08After all the devastation, I think we can do it one more time.
45:15Florida's...
45:15It's home for us.
45:17Cheers, big ears!
45:18Cheers, big ears!
45:19Cheers!
45:19Cheers!
45:20Cheers!
45:36Cheers,.'save이다."
45:39Cheers, everybody!
45:41Cheers!
45:46Cheers,ieren gelecek!
