00:00So low!
00:02Previously on Mythbusters The Search.
00:05This is why you never give up.
00:06In the competition to find the next generation.
00:09Get one, guys!
00:11Seven hopeful hosts were pushed to the limit.
00:14Come on, Ty!
00:14Looking for a needle in a haystack.
00:17They wouldn't have invented that term if it was easy.
00:19And with Tracy's journey at an end.
00:22This week our six surviving contenders take aim.
00:26Fire!
00:26And a tall tale from an 80's TV classic.
00:30The 18!
00:31Can you really use junkyard scrap to make a working weapon that fires cabbages?
00:40This is awesome!
00:41And is a bike with reverse steering really impossible to ride?
00:48Which wannabe Mythbuster will go the distance?
00:51And who will crash and burn?
00:55And the person leaving us this week is...
01:00The 20th Man.
01:01It will never be the one that will be the same.
01:05Looking at it.
01:06Let's get back!
01:07We'll be right back!
01:07And we'll see you later!
01:08Yeah, the end.
01:17We'll be right back!
01:18So, you know, take a look at the camera!
01:18Hey, baby!
01:19You're my friend, buddy!
01:21You're your friend!
01:24You're my friend!
01:28I think I'll help you!
01:36Welcome to Mythbusters The Search.
01:38You find yourselves in a scrapyard
01:40because this week's first myth comes from the TV gold that is...
01:45The A-Team!
01:47Virtually every episode, Hannibal and his Soldiers of Fortune
01:51are able to craft an improvised but highly effective weapon
01:54out of just scrap they find laying around.
01:57But is that really possible?
01:59I love the ingenuity, the intelligence of the A-Team,
02:02them coming together and building something out of nothing.
02:05Way better than MacGyver.
02:06You'll be forming your own A-Teams.
02:09Tamara, Hackett, John, Team Blue,
02:12which means Bryan, Allen and Martin, your Team Red.
02:15The competition is really fierce at this point,
02:17but this is a chance to really change my life.
02:19I'm gonna give it everything I have.
02:21Now what you'll be testing is whether or not
02:23you can take out six bad guys like these
02:26and for ammunition, as per an actual A-Team episode,
02:29you'll be using heads of cabbage.
02:32This is awesome for two reasons.
02:34One, we're in a junkyard trying to make something
02:37that throws or flings or catapults
02:39or launches cabbage at bad guys.
02:41You have just two days to build your own improvised weapon
02:44using just the scrap you see in this yard.
02:47Two, it's the A-Team. This is awesome.
02:51The A-Team and Mythbusters have history.
02:54You ready for the A-Team special?
02:56I was born ready, fool.
02:58Back in 2015, our original Soldiers of Fortune...
03:02Yeah!
03:03...built a two-by-four firing forklift
03:05that obliterated the bad guys.
03:07Yeah!
03:08I love it when a plan comes together.
03:11But this myth is a much tougher task.
03:14In just two days, and with junkyard materials
03:17and cabbage ammo,
03:19can either team come up with a working weapon of war?
03:26Making weapons out of junkyard scrap,
03:28to some extent, that's my life so far.
03:31Weapons by different means.
03:33This is a great junkyard.
03:35It seems like they have a lot of what I could possibly want.
03:37The problem here is going to be narrowing down an idea
03:39to one thing and to one thing only,
03:41and not trying to make a bunch of things
03:44that will never get finished.
03:45I can think of so many weapons that we could use here.
03:47We could use catapults.
03:48We could use listers.
03:49We could use man-driven, electric-driven.
03:52We could use air cannons.
03:54There's just so much.
03:55I think the thing that's going to limit us, though,
03:56is what's functional and in this junkyard,
03:58because we may not have motors,
04:00we may not have vessels
04:01that can actually hold pressure safely,
04:03so we may actually have to go old school on this design.
04:06Like any crack commando unit,
04:08first, they need to do some reconnaissance.
04:11We've chosen this particular junkyard
04:13because of the sheer assortment of things
04:14that you can find here.
04:15Wood, metal, glass, valves, buttons, switches,
04:19so it shouldn't be impossible
04:20to build a weapon out of this stuff.
04:22Got the same saw at home.
04:24However, the difficulty will come from the ammunition.
04:27Any of you all have any experience
04:28building things that launch stuff?
04:30Our candidates have to be firing cabbages.
04:33Yeah.
04:33These leaky bits are kind of useless.
04:34They're not exactly aerodynamic.
04:36This is the hard part.
04:37Yeah, cabbage ammo is less than ideal,
04:40and first up to tackle the problem is Team Blue.
04:44I'm pretty obsessed with the crossbow repeating cabbage...
04:48Wait.
04:49Repeating crossbow cabbage launcher?
04:53It's a repeating crossbow that launches cabbages.
04:56Sure. What else?
04:58Um, air cannon.
05:00Like a potato cannon, but with cabbages.
05:02Look, if you're filling a giant thing up
05:03with hundreds of pounds of pressure of air,
05:05what could possibly go wrong?
05:07With John and Tamara less than convinced
05:09by Hackett's air cannon, they move forward
05:12with John's ambitious
05:13and potentially overpowered cabbage crossbow.
05:16So we have the most important part, which is how we're going to propel cabbages.
05:22And so I think I definitely saw some leaf springs.
05:25These guys look pretty good.
05:26And then we'll have the bit that holds the cabbage, some rail.
05:31The string will go through here to the springs.
05:34And then so we have to pull that draw spring back somehow,
05:37so we'll look at winches or whatever they might have out there.
05:39That was a really productive meeting.
05:42It's not every day three people say yes to a giant crossbow.
05:48Blue have been able to source all their crucial components from the yard.
05:52And for this myth, that's key.
05:55Meanwhile, red team come together at their whiteboard
05:58and Alan comes up with a knockout idea.
06:01Hear me out here. We have a cabbage boxing robot.
06:10All right, Brian, you have any good ideas?
06:12No, no, no, no. Hear me out.
06:13They never said that we had to shoot the cabbages.
06:17So essentially just...
06:19Okay, so maybe not a cabbage boxing robot.
06:22Yeah, I got a better solution.
06:23No, I'm done. I'm done.
06:25Wait, why are you just air cannon?
06:27I think our quickest build is just a giant cabbage air cannon.
06:30One of us on the ball valve.
06:33Away it goes.
06:35Unlike team blue, the reds aren't afraid of an air cannon catastrophe
06:38or bending the rules.
06:40We don't need to use the whole cabin.
06:42What if we just use this solid core here
06:45and kind of make like a cabbage bullet?
06:47Good idea.
06:48So we have our barrel here.
06:51But that's what we need.
06:52Our firing tank there with our ball valve.
06:55That's perfect.
06:56And then our auxiliary air tank here
07:00that the compressor's continually filling.
07:02Red team has sourced the parts for their air cannon,
07:05but hitting targets is the aim of the game.
07:08If you look at all the axes that this thing has to travel,
07:12there's a cement mixer that does everything we need.
07:15This'll float our goat.
07:16Junkyard find, I love it.
07:17This is just a glorified, oversized spitball gun.
07:22So instead of a chewed up napkin,
07:26we're just using this cabbage plug.
07:28Instead of a straw, we're using plumbing pipe.
07:30And instead of our lungs, we're using a compressor.
07:35The one thing you could always count on from the A-Team was ingenuity.
07:38They'd find themselves in some terrible situation,
07:41but then they'd create a crazy machine and come and save the day.
07:44In the same vein, I think that's why I prefer blue team's design.
07:47It's a giant ballista for cabbages powered by giant springs.
07:52I haven't seen that before.
07:54On the other hand, red team is going with an air cannon.
07:57I have seen that before.
07:58And so have you, but with chickens.
08:00I'm a bit disappointed in the lack of creativity there.
08:05Armed with two plans and a boot full of scrap,
08:09it's back to the shop.
08:10Dangerous, dangerous thing.
08:12To prepare for some cabbage carnage.
08:17Team Blue takes stock of their rusty scrapyard haul.
08:24Beautiful.
08:25And while they check for structural integrity...
08:28Ready? This is just one arm strength.
08:34Here's a reminder of the rules.
08:37Now that we're back at the shop,
08:39both teams have access to all the junk that they found at the scrapyard.
08:42It basically just needs to be blocked off.
08:44But to turn that junk into a weapon, they need tools.
08:47So they get all the tools here in the shop.
08:49They'll also have access to our consumables.
08:51Wood and nuts and bolts and tape.
08:54But the guts of their machine has to be the junk that they found.
08:58A goal Team Blue seemed to have achieved.
09:00One thing's for sure, it is going to be a medieval mean machine.
09:06Cue the graphic.
09:07Okay.
09:08Their cabbage crossbow will use a truck's leaf springs as the arms.
09:13Square tubing for the rails and wire cabling as the drawstring.
09:17An old winch will create tension that when released will catapult the cabbages with ferocious, fearsome force.
09:26Meanwhile, Team Red sought out their salvaged materials.
09:29What floor are we stopping at?
09:31Including a last minute addition by Alan.
09:33Don't mind me.
09:35Our cannon has a couple of valves that have to turn on and off.
09:38And we want that to happen automatically so that we just have to worry about aiming and shooting.
09:42Luckily, I was able to find a microwave oven at the junkyard.
09:46And that's got plenty of circuitry that can turn things on and off.
09:49And it's got a timer built right in.
09:51So I'm going to see if I can make a stupid computer that can turn the brains of the microwave
09:56to become the brains of our cannon.
09:58It is an ambitious automatic air cannon and this is how it works.
10:03A junkyard compressor will pump air into two reservoir tanks controlled by rapid release ball valves.
10:10To fire, Alan's microwave computer will trigger a release of the pressurized air to fire a cabbage core bullet.
10:17Then automatically refill the tank, ready to fire again.
10:26While Alan's idea is bang up to date, Brian's tackling their targeting system by going medieval.
10:32In a junkyard, this is nothing but a cement mixer.
10:35But to us, it's a targeting mechanism.
10:37It allows us elevation and left and right control.
10:42So if our first shot's just off by a bit, we can make a tiny little change and nail it
10:46the second time.
10:47Coming up.
10:48So we have our weapons.
10:50It's cabbage crossbow versus cabbage cannon.
10:53Alrighty, boys.
10:54You know the drill here.
10:56Will the cannon have enough pressure to fire?
10:58Fire!
10:59Will the crossbow be accurate enough to launch a cabbage at our bad guys?
11:05Will either team have enough time to build it?
11:08I guess we'll find out.
11:16Chicken doesn't fit!
11:18From frozen chickens.
11:23And blocks of cheese.
11:26Did you see how far it landed?
11:28To bullets made of meat.
11:31Ice.
11:32And even teeth.
11:36Yeah!
11:37The Mythbusters have fired.
11:39Watch out!
11:41A lot of weird and wonderful projectiles.
11:45I call it my little pop gun.
11:51But until now.
11:53Never cabbages.
11:55It's a unique challenge our six hopeful hosts have to overcome to test an A team tall tail of veggie
12:02violence.
12:03And with less than two days to whip up a working weapon.
12:07Good enough.
12:08it's a tough ask and team blue is dividing to conquer they left the junkyard with a crossbow
12:16plan a a for ambitiously overpowered and as a result hackett has peeled off for a gentler plan
12:24b this plan starting to come together hackett's working on an alternate crossbow while john and
12:30i work on this one john has been an absolute star which definitely makes him our hannibal
12:35here we go here we go so i'm probably face instead of ba but hackett he's definitely our howling mad
12:42murdoch but we have the other one on top of it right howling mad hackett may not be so crazy
12:50there are concerns that john's giant design will rip the ammo apart when it fires so he's working
12:57on an alternative that won't make coleslaw of the cabbage meanwhile red team's cabbage cannon is
13:03whirring along like microwave clockwork i've gutted the microwave and taken out the magnetron this is
13:09the part of the microwave that actually makes microwaves i've gotten rid of that and replaced
13:13it with this solenoid valve this way our microwave oven can actually control our airflow so if you
13:20hear it it goes so big cement mixer air cannon microwave exactly love it with brian busy fixing
13:30up the cement mixer beautiful martin pumps out their rule bending ammo this is my secret little coring
13:38technique it's just a pipe with some notches and this is going to cut the exact size we need so
13:43it'll
13:44fit right into our cannon smells like coleslaw and this is the way you remove the whole thing
13:53ready to go how's that eyeball that's the ammo now for the barrel hey martin what you got going on
14:01here
14:01what are you doing to this barrel so this is actually the sleeve of our barrel and i've made this
14:06little
14:07rifling jig so it allows us to cut a spiral groove in this it's going to spin our cabbage plug
14:14so it's
14:15going to be more of an air rifle now than an air cannon exactly if we can spin that cabbage
14:21plug
14:21we can nail our targets with precision oh dang martin that's really cool you can see down at like
14:28you were looking into like a like a james bond intro or did it did it and you see you
14:33see the
14:34rifling that's great with martin on a roll next up it's the lungs of the cannon this is our primary
14:40air tank that's constantly being filled by the compressor we need to make sure the entire
14:44world is airproof two hours later what part of this got so heavy brian and team red's impressive
14:54teamwork means they're ready to assemble their rig very sharp and even risk letting kyle help
15:00beautiful beautiful kyle you're doing something you're doing something you're building something
15:05i'm helping if this is an a team i don't know what is some not so fine tuning from brian
15:13probably all we need for military precision right and they're all set for a full-scale test fire we
15:18take our one and a half inch cabbage core and load it into our barrel next we use the timer
15:23from our
15:23cannibalized microwave to perfectly charge our one-shot tank and when this tank is full we hit this switch
15:29and boom bye bye bad guys that's the theory but has their well-oiled team produced the cabbage firing
15:36goods yeah you're shoving it oh breathing light to the machine so that pressure it's hot one-shot tank
15:46charged three two one after just one day in the workshop red team's results are brutally effective
16:04it comes out as a perfect projectile but it's not all good news their custom bullets are not the
16:12only rule they've re-engineered what strikes me isn't the power or the accuracy it's this valve this
16:19very expensive electronically operated valve they used in the ejector seat myth all right
16:27now i did say that the teams could salvage other builds they've done in this show to use in their
16:3218 myth but for this in particular i don't think it really fits it's so complicated and so expensive
16:40that this is not quite cheating but it is bending the rules of it
16:48back with blue there's no cheating cabbage goes in here but they are splitting their resources and
16:55hackett's plan b is ready for a demo okay hackett what am i looking at here got these springs here
17:01they attach through the pulley and here to this lever so pull the string back uh yeah and then fire
17:10yep you've made like a compound crossbow yep easier to pull back and non-shredding when it fires
17:19hackett was worried john's design will shred the veg question is will his bow be better
17:30safety pin is pulled okay three two one
17:38that's not bad cabbage flute it's true but did it hold together although the rig looks cool when it
17:46actually fires it's kind of a mess and now we have a salad yeah test it out this crossbow it
17:53works
17:53okay but what we need to do now is test out john's if that operates excellently then that will be
18:01all
18:02hands on deck getting that up and running for the competition if both are about equal well we'll figure
18:07it out so it's full steam ahead with plan a to see what john's design will do
18:17the trio pull together welding their weapon into shape yeah that's good good cabbage in the hole
18:25and tomorrow's welding skills wedded with hackett and john's fabrication experience
18:30last brace piece oh so close can almost taste the cabbage eyes means they're ready to test
18:39their mean lead medieval machine this is our massive crossbow cabbage flinging weapon of doom oh look at
18:47this it's finally done this is how it's going to work cabbage sits in the sled the sled is attached
18:53to
18:53a quick release which is attached to our winch we're going to winch this thing all the way back
18:57as far as we can and when i'm ready i'm going to pull the safety pin yank it it's in
19:02a room everyone's
19:04wary you guys ready yeah the potential energy combined with old and creaky parts could cause
19:11catastrophic collapse or maybe a deadly vegetable based projectile all right starting to get scary
19:26three three two one
19:38our six hopeful hosts are tackling the a team tall tale if this is an a team i don't know
19:45what is
19:45the junkyard salvage and cabbage ammo can be effectively weaponized
19:53that's a bullet that's a cabbage bullet but a new day brings a new myth
20:01it's tools down in your a team weapons because it's time for this week's second myth they say you
20:06never forget how to ride a bike but today that might all change
20:12oh god may i present your special guest judge for this myth circus performer and engineer eric gradman
20:19eric do you want to fill them in the good news is you won't need to ride one of these
20:24today
20:26but you will need to ride one of these this bicycle has been modified so that the handlebars when turned
20:35left move the wheel right and vice versa it sounds like a simple tweak but it supposedly makes one of
20:42these bikes impossible to ride so to test this myth you'll have to ride one of these 12 feet
20:51but that's not all because you'll also be making your own reverse bikes at these six stations you have
20:59all the tools and the parts that you need but there are no instructions
21:05you have exactly one hour and your time starts now transforming cycles for science
21:13it's working exactly as it was designed has been a recurring theme of mythbusters but will this new
21:20myth crash and burn to find out the guys must first build the bikes wait how did you how do
21:29you even
21:29do that how it came like this which for some is no walk in the park well i've actually only
21:37ridden a
21:37bike like 10 times in my life i don't actually even own a bike so it's gonna be a challenge
21:50so there's two parts to this myth the writing and the building i'm only concerned about one of
21:55those considering i can build anything but riding with these long supermodel limbs i'm not confident
22:02tamar what are you doing with your chain okay
22:09i've been a bike zealot since i could ride a bike when i was about six
22:12so i've been a bike mechanic i've built my own bikes i just have never built that bike
22:19martin's experience pays off just 20 minutes in his bike is built leaving him time to pimp his ride
22:28you can never have enough cowbell car
22:3110 minutes later and john's moved from fabricating to finessing
22:36i gotta admit that does sound pretty cool
22:42brian alan i finished my bike and tamara follow but not hackett
22:51hackett's making a lot of noise making a big mess
22:53i don't know what he's doing back there
22:58he may have started slowly but just before the fat lady sings he finishes
23:03five four three two one all right that's it contestants tools down
23:13with their bikes built and beautified it's time to test
23:17and the setup is pretty simple
23:20here's the start line 12 feet later the finish line
23:24all you have to do is get from there to here without any part of your body
23:29touching the ground each rider will have three attempts to complete the course
23:33and martin's up first
23:36remember martin has been an avid cyclist for over 20 years
23:41ready sir
23:42but can he go the distance
23:46that was attempt number one looks like he got around halfway
23:50no okay
23:53cute take two and this time he spins right round
24:04and third time's not so lucky
24:07it's extremely hard because your first instinct you want to catch
24:11you can't do that
24:11martin may have failed but he's on to something
24:14learned behavior is the key to this myth
24:17it's hard to override your instincts
24:20unlike martin's 20 years of bike riding experience
24:23i have to overcome 10 previous bike rides
24:25i got this
24:27so will john's lack of experience help him
24:31all right all right here we go
24:32you got this come on
24:36nope john barely made it past the start line
24:39on all three of his attempts
24:41here we go
24:41oh yeah
24:44and this myth is heading straight for confirmed
24:48blast off three two one
24:55so why is this so hard for our candidates
24:58well when you were a kid learning how to ride a bike
25:00your brain started developing a mental model of how riding a bike works
25:04and now our candidates are flipping variables around in that model
25:08making it as though they've never ridden a bike before
25:11they say it takes weeks to retrain your brain to do this
25:14but can hack it prove us wrong
25:17you're the last candidate
25:18you can make or break this myth right here
25:20three two let's get killed
25:25i did not end up with a mouthful of gravel
25:28i ended up with a new hole in my hand
25:31so i just tried muscling straight through it
25:33hit the ground
25:36so six riders three tries each
25:39eighteen total attempts
25:40how many of those went the full twelve feet
25:44zero
25:44we're gonna have to call this myth confirmed
25:47it is impossible to ride a reverse bike
25:50without a lot of practice
25:53eric you want to show them how it's done though
25:56see y'all later
26:05back to the a-team tall tale
26:08and team blue are finally testing their plan a
26:11i'm excited to see the test today
26:13i'm really hoping that the rig's gonna work
26:17i'm cranking this ratchet back
26:19pulling that cable the springs are bending back
26:21i launch it
26:22three
26:23two
26:25one
26:28okay no
26:29so uh yeah
26:30that was
26:32it's good
26:37the expectation was carnage
26:40which is killing me
26:41the reality
26:43a feeble flop
26:45and they don't know why
26:48but despite that
26:50the team rallies behind john
26:52where's blue team at now
26:54well they've completed two tests on their cabbage flinging designs
26:57but they've decided as a team to go with john's design
27:00because it has more potential
27:01both literally and how much energy it can fit into its giant springs
27:05i think we can get it back pretty far
27:06and figuratively as something that the a-team would build
27:10it's the first time in my life
27:11that something i've made has been dismissed for not being scary enough
27:15yes although hackett's test fire was marginally more successful
27:19john's design has more potential
27:21is more ambitious
27:23and a-team-esque
27:25okay you want it to be flat at rest
27:26just like not that far back
27:28but it has to work
27:30at this stage we're pretty late in the game
27:32to be finding out that we still have so many question marks
27:34thank you so much i'm gonna re
27:40you have the
27:41you have the
27:42i'm really worried that we are gonna run out of time
27:44and neither of these rigs are gonna be ready
27:46and we're gonna have two pretty scary looking paperweights
27:49with just a few hours to go team blue have some significant design issues to solve
27:54they need to re-engineer their crossbow to unleash its energetic potential
27:59we're nearing the end of this build and right now i see
28:04more junk than actual weapon
28:06they are running out of time
28:11blue team's blues are a world away from team red's orderly design dance
28:16their air pressure powered cabbage cannon has been tried and tested
28:23and is now getting a makeover ready for the big day
28:26meaning while alan finishes up the electronics
28:29bingo
28:30brian and martin down tools with time to spare
28:33they're behind schedule
28:35we got two choices a hammock or help them
28:38let's help them
28:39considering what's at stake
28:41guys need a hand
28:42it's an incredible act of sportsmanship
28:45yeah whatever y'all want
28:48but for a myth buster the myth comes first
28:51there's an untested tall tale still to be tackled
28:54so teamwork it is
28:57it's kind of amazing that red team has come to help us
28:59i think we're gonna flip it
29:0130 years old
29:01you turn it this way
29:03they could have just beat us hands down
29:05and then just waved one of us goodbye
29:07it's nice that they're coming to help level the playing field
29:10we asked if we could pitch in and help them finish
29:12because it's gonna be way more fun if we can compete evenly
29:15it goes in here and then there'll be a piece that swings out like that
29:18with extra hands on deck
29:20john is able to focus on the design wrongs
29:23and crucially direct his willing troops to make them right
29:27if you bend a leaf spring the other way
29:29two inches past flat
29:31they permanently deform
29:32hence
29:32we've flipped them so now they bend back
29:34and from extra power we've added two more
29:37so there's three total leaf springs on each side
29:39it's a small change
29:41but it should make a big difference
29:43trouble is
29:44even with a little help from their friends
29:46there's only enough time to build it
29:48not put it through its paces
29:51after all the man hours I wanted this
29:53I hope it finally works
29:54but maybe I can tweak it a little bit
29:55get a little more juice out of it
29:58yeah
30:00blue team will face the final shootout
30:02with an untested rig
30:03their reputations and the myth
30:06all on the line
30:17when the original mythbusters took aim at the A team
30:20I was born ready fool
30:23they found the physics of a log cannon were faked
30:27one
30:31oops
30:32but when it came time to build their own forklift firer
30:37the bad guys went down in a fearsome flurry of 4x2s
30:42yeah
30:43I love it when a plan comes together
30:51question is
30:52how will the next gen contenders compare
30:54is a cabbage based junkyard weapon feasible
30:57or an 80s tv fiction
31:01come down to the junkyard
31:15suitably attired it's time to confront this myth and the threat of elimination
31:20am I concerned if I'm going to go home
31:22I'm concerned every week
31:24right when I get on the field I'm like
31:26no crap
31:27yeah
31:27okay it gets to be last time
31:32welcome to test day
31:33we find ourselves back at the junkyard
31:35we find ourselves back at the junkyard but not alone
31:37there'll be six bad guys
31:38your mission will be to take out as many of them as you can in just three minutes
31:44we also have a good guy here today your special guest judge current world record holder for pumpkin chunking and
31:51owner of american chunker
31:53brian labree
31:55having built a rig that can fire a pumpkin over four and a half thousand feet brian's the perfect person
32:01to judge this myth
32:04if anyone knows how to turn a vegetable into a projectile it's this guy
32:08that's right but cabbage is a whole different thing pumpkins are actually a fruit
32:13oh yeah
32:15anyway in terms of who's going first this week that's going to be blue team
32:20but before anyone fires anything brian and i are going to come check out both rigs so get ready
32:26first in the firing line and scrambled together at the last minute is team blue's crossbow
32:33what do you think of this
32:34it looks like a modern version of the 400 bc ballista
32:39but a little bit more um
32:42junkyardy
32:42junkyardy yeah
32:43pranks with that boat winch
32:45cocks here
32:46loads the cabbage
32:47makes the coleslaw
32:52how about team red's air cannon
32:55i think it looks nice and we've got it looks like a repurposed
32:58cement mixer for a turret
32:59uh-huh
33:00some 10-inch galby pipe
33:02sealed off for your vessel
33:04then it looks like we go into a valve
33:05looks like a ball valve with a
33:07an actuator actually
33:09well that's interesting we have one of those on our cannon
33:12so maybe not something that you'd find in the junkyard
33:14you'd be real lucky to find something like that here in the junkyard
33:16yeah
33:17so what do we have over here
33:18this is
33:21the repurposed guts of a microwave
33:23that's going to make the firing mechanism
33:25it's definitely very cool
33:26definitely uh some creativity
33:28it looks like creativity reigns supreme here today
33:30that's pretty sweet
33:31guest judge brian couldn't separate them
33:34both have pros and cons
33:36red's radical rifle has some rule bending components
33:40ready
33:41and blue's bow may be untested and lack polish
33:46but it looks and sounds lethal
33:49you know when we're cranking that thing back
33:50and you go click click click click click click
33:51and the bows are bending back
33:53no one's going to want to stand in front of it
33:56leonardo da vinci believed that
33:57weapons for war needed to both scare
34:00and be precise
34:02we got the scary part down
34:09loader up
34:10hold the knife
34:11oh yeah
34:14loaded
34:14blue team are you ready
34:16yes
34:16all right when you see the bad guys pop up
34:18you may start
34:19three
34:22two
34:24one
34:25go
34:27fire
34:31ow
34:31that's a hit
34:34it's a promising but less than lethal start
34:38these guys are impressive
34:41wait
34:42loaded
34:42loaded
34:43extra power
34:44do it
34:45round two they crank harder
34:49oh
34:50overshot
34:51how is that possible
34:52you don't know your own power
34:54and incredibly their crossbow firing cabbages made from junkyard scrap
34:59hooks
35:00hit it hard
35:01in the way
35:03oh
35:04they are destroying shins today
35:06ankles are breaking
35:08their aim might not be laser like
35:11lethality less than ideal
35:13that thing's an ankle biter
35:15and reload time slow
35:17running out of time blue team
35:19getting down to the wire here
35:20you only have one minute remaining
35:22but given their rig was untested
35:24and until late last night unfinished
35:27i regret wearing the bling
35:29i regret wearing the bling so much
35:31they and the myth are looking good
35:34it seems like we have a worthy cabbage commander
35:38only ten seconds remaining blue team
35:40you gotta get the shot off
35:41so scared
35:42nine
35:42here we go
35:43okay
35:44seven
35:44six
35:45go for it
35:46five
35:46fire
35:47four
35:48three
35:50oh
35:54and that is time for our team
35:57awesome shot
35:58blue team pulls together
36:00and with the final shot
36:02takes their total tally
36:03to four hits
36:07and the last guy with the gun
36:08straight out
36:09body shot
36:10we showed them
36:11touch it
36:14touch it
36:15they've got cabbage all over them
36:17so good
36:17is anyone else tired
36:18no no i'm fine
36:19it's just me
36:20yeah
36:20you did good
36:22good job
36:22i'm gonna lay down
36:26they surprised me
36:27i thought we were gonna get six feet
36:28off the end of the crossbow
36:29and uh these guys
36:30they did a great job
36:32oh so good
36:34so good
36:34oh
36:35oh i couldn't
36:36i couldn't be more happy
36:38that's a nice rig
36:38for what they had to work with
36:39and the time frame
36:40they had to work with it in
36:42can't ask for more than that
36:46blue team's cabbage crossbow
36:48just put real pressure
36:49on the red team's pressurized rig
36:51it worked amazingly good
36:55i'm a little worried
36:58all righty boys
37:00you know the drill here
37:03let's do this
37:04team red's cabbage cannon
37:06is primed for action
37:07all right
37:08we are loaded
37:09charge her up
37:10ready
37:11can they blast their way past blue team's tally of four hits in three minutes
37:16red team are you ready
37:18yeah
37:19ready
37:20three
37:21and stamp this myth confirmed
37:24one
37:27go
37:30fire
37:35blew the arms right off it
37:37how about that
37:37oh man
37:39close
37:39it's a killer start
37:44the nearest bad guy is rendered armless
37:47and their automated system means they're already ready for round two
37:51fire
37:52fire
37:52fire
37:52oh
37:53man a miss
37:55using their cement mixer targeting system shot number three
37:59fire
38:01yeah
38:02oh man
38:04they punched a hole through them
38:06is a lethal hit to the torso
38:10and the carnage continues with round four
38:13fire
38:14fire
38:16oh
38:16took an arm off
38:18the plywood adversaries wielding wooden weapons
38:22just has a wrench
38:24come on
38:25what do they have against wrenches
38:27fire
38:28oh my goodness
38:31are no match for team red's cabbage cannon
38:3610
38:379
38:38with their final shot
38:407
38:416
38:42yeah
38:44they overtake blue team
38:47as their fifth victim takes a solid hit
38:49as does the myth
38:53good job red team
38:55nice job boys
38:56i love it when a junkyard and myth comes together
38:58good job baby
39:01no doubt the cannon caused chaos
39:03but let's not forget that it wasn't made exclusively from junk
39:08two great teams
39:10awesome display
39:11it's almost a dead heat
39:12keeping in mind
39:14that on the air cannon
39:16there may have been some
39:17parts in there that were
39:20perhaps not so junkyardy
39:22whereas
39:23the blue team
39:24was all junkyard
39:26can you imagine that with only cabbages
39:28this man was
39:30disarmed
39:33is that too stupid
39:35so red team's rig
39:37it performed
39:38amazingly
39:40it had the power
39:41and the accuracy
39:42to obliterate
39:43the bad guys
39:44fire
39:46however
39:47interestingly
39:47as good as it was
39:49it didn't beat the blue team's rig
39:51by that much
39:52it only hit
39:52one more target
39:53and that's pretty surprising
39:55i think the 18
39:56would have
39:57both been proud
39:58and also a little scared
39:59turned out to be a very destructive cannon
40:07someone has to go home
40:08and i so far
40:10i've never excluded myself
40:11from that possible list of names
40:14i think right now
40:15everyone's on a high
40:16but in a minute
40:17the only thing on people's minds
40:19who's going home
40:25the myth was that you could build a weapon out of junkyard scrap to take out bad guys just like
40:30the A-team did
40:31and because both rigs worked so well i'm gonna have to say that this myth is plausible
40:43and for the winner this week hitting five out of six possible targets with deadly accuracy i gotta give it
40:59to the red team
41:03and now for this week's coveted mythbusters mvp trophy while everyone showed great skill and camaraderie this week we feel
41:11that one person had the design vision and the attitude that even the A-team would envy
41:17john congratulations
41:23excellent job
41:25gee thank you congrats so much
41:26thank you
41:28honestly this is the opposite place i expected to end up
41:31you know the crossbow build got delayed
41:33all things weren't working
41:35why is it doing that
41:37i was pretty sure i was going home
41:38but then we came out
41:40crossbow performed magnificently
41:42fire
41:43i really just couldn't be happier
41:45and more grateful
41:46all right now for the part that i really hate
41:50everyone made it very difficult for us this week
41:53because on the one hand
41:54blue team needed help from the red team to finish their rig
41:57and on the other hand
41:59red team's rig was mostly successful
42:01because of parts that they didn't find
42:03in the junkyard
42:05but i've talked it over with brian
42:08with the rest of the mythbusters crew
42:10and the person leaving us this week is
42:17no one
42:21no one is being eliminated this week
42:23you all showed the kind of teamwork
42:26that would make the A-team proud
42:28and made it impossible for us to decide
42:30so you all live to fight another day
42:35today was a really surprising result just 24 hours ago blue team was in real trouble
42:40but after red team's show of altruism to make sure that the blue team had a functioning rig to make
42:45it a fair fight
42:46made it impossible for us to eliminate anyone
42:49i think the A-team would be proud
42:55next time
42:57our six hopeful hosts hit the wall
43:00to find out if you could suck it up for seven stories
43:04if you can hear me spider-man
43:06i could really use your help right now
43:08then in the worst case scenario
43:14can an amateur aviator really land a light aircraft
43:46oops
