00:00Sports landscape with the Wizards getting pick number one in the NBA draft.
00:04I like how the NBA does this, by the way.
00:06You've got the lottery just before the combine.
00:09And so, in short order, find out who picks where.
00:13Executives stay in that city for the combine that starts the next day.
00:17And then, about a month later, the draft.
00:20All very quickly here in succession.
00:22We've heard from some of the top players in this draft class over the last 24 hours,
00:27including today, A.J. DeBonsa, who talked about what it would mean to be the number one pick
00:33and to be a Washington Wizard.
00:34This is via Josh Robbins of The Athletic.
00:37What would it mean to you to be the number one pick?
00:40I mean, a lot.
00:41It would just mean that all my hard work is paying off.
00:44And all the countless hours and all the sacrifices I made has paid off.
00:49And that's what I'm striving towards.
00:51What is your impression of how you would fit with the Wizards if you wind up there?
00:55Yeah, so obviously they have, I think, an all-star point guard.
00:59I think Trey has been an all-star.
01:00An all-star point guard, an all-star five-man, A.J. Davis.
01:05They have Trey Johnson, Will Raleigh, who are gems.
01:07They have Bubb Carrington.
01:08I met Keyshawn George one time.
01:10But I think it would just be a good young core that can fit in and really just play fast.
01:14So a few things there that stand out to me.
01:18First, the first thing he does is mention the veteran players that are here that they brought in to establish
01:24credibility.
01:25All-star point guard in Trey Young, all-star big man in Anthony Davis.
01:29We can have conversations about how much Anthony Davis is going to play.
01:33Does he want to be here or not?
01:35Should they trade him or not?
01:36And you and I have had conversations about Trey Young.
01:38Is he a winning player?
01:39Sure.
01:40Is he going to make it harder or easier to win a championship?
01:43I would point out what Atlanta looked like after he left there this year.
01:46But the fact is, in this sport, everything is about whether or not you're perceived as one of them ones.
01:54You know what I'm saying?
01:54Totally.
01:55Like one of the cool teams.
01:56And the first thing this dude does is go, yeah, it'd be pretty cool.
02:00They got Trey Young and Anthony Davis.
02:02He didn't talk about Bubb Carrington first.
02:04He didn't talk about Keyshawn George.
02:06I don't think he...
02:07I'm still waiting on him to say Alex Sar's name, who's the highest upside player in the organization.
02:10He's like, I was surprised how good Will Raleigh was.
02:12He didn't do that.
02:13Didn't do that.
02:13He didn't say, you know, while they were losing all those games last year,
02:16Grant was kind of impressed by Will Raleigh taking people off the dribble.
02:19That's not what he said.
02:20Trey Young's cool.
02:21Anthony Davis is awesome.
02:22That's basically how it started.
02:24It's part of it.
02:25I mean, the NBA is still weird about trades and stuff.
02:27We already know with the NFL how things will work.
02:29But with the NBA, you've got to wear that hat.
02:32Even though everybody knows you're not going to that city.
02:35You know, the trades can't be consummated.
02:37So it's kind of like that.
02:38It may not...
02:39I mean, the word may be out.
02:40It may not include those guys, those veterans that you're talking about.
02:43The plan may or may not be them.
02:44We have no idea at this point.
02:45You know, maybe DeBonta doesn't either.
02:47But still, to your point, Trey Young's cool.
02:50And Anthony Davis is cool.
02:52You know what I mean?
02:53Again, I go back to that LeBron James on some podcast wherever.
02:56Because he still keeps in touch with AD.
02:58First thing he mentioned.
02:59Well, not first thing.
03:00But one of the huge things he mentioned was Anthony Davis is in DC.
03:03Really curious and excited to see what they do.
03:05That's worth its weight in gold.
03:06Second thing.
03:07And here's the lead that I've buried.
03:09Enough with the he doesn't want to be a wizard thing.
03:12I don't want to hear that again from anybody.
03:14And nobody in this town was saying that.
03:16I don't think any fans thought that.
03:17But dumb national people were saying that.
03:20Look at how upset he was when they got the pick.
03:23He didn't react by high-fiving everyone and screaming,
03:27I like mumbo sauce.
03:30Shut up.
03:31Shut up.
03:33He's not bothered coming here.
03:34He's perfectly fine coming here.
03:36I can't wait to see the monuments.
03:38He should have said that as soon as they said the Wizards had the pick.
03:42He has no problem playing for the Wizards.
03:45Sounds like he's very excited about going number one to Washington.
03:48Let's close that book.
03:50And let's take it out of Stephen A. Smith's hands.
03:52And let's put it somewhere else.
03:54Anybody who says that is wasting your time.
03:57Don't give them any attention.
04:01Am I missing something here?
04:03You are not missing something.
04:03This would have been the time for him to go,
04:05yeah, I don't really see myself playing for the Wizards.
04:07Hopefully they trade the pick.
04:08Didn't say that.
04:09I must have missed that audio.
04:10Can you play that for me, Darius?
04:11You don't have it.
04:11You can't play it.
04:12Never said it.
04:12Doesn't exist.
04:14Yeah.
04:14Or he could have looked like somebody ruined his Cheerios or something like that.
04:19What would going to the Wizards mean?
04:20It would mean that I was the first pick.
04:23Anyway.
04:24He could have told you with some body language or something like that.
04:27If he's 1-1, it means the Wizards are there
04:29and he's going to a pretty good situation.
04:30They have apparently already talked to Cam Boozer as well.
04:34This also via Josh Robbins.
04:37He talked about meeting with the Wiz.
04:39Yeah, I spoke with them today.
04:40I mean, I think I feel well there.
04:44Their vision, their plan for the future.
04:47Obviously, D.C. is a great city,
04:48so we had a good conversation for sure.
04:51How do you have any time for him here this week?
04:54I don't think I'm necessarily trying to show anything.
04:56I'm just trying to be myself.
04:58I feel like the right team will want me for who I am
05:01and for my values,
05:02so it's not necessarily trying to show anything.
05:05Somebody's going to get a really good player in Cam Boozer, by the way.
05:08I get how we got here.
05:10A little bit of an athleticism deficiency compared to the top guys.
05:14Maybe there's some questions about defensive ability at the next level.
05:18Someone's about to get 22-10 player of the year.
05:20Like, he's boring.
05:22Sorry.
05:23He's just really good.
05:24He's coldly efficient.
05:25Second generation.
05:26Yeah.
05:26Dad played and survived and was in locker rooms forever.
05:29And the thing that was crazy to me at the end of the year
05:31when I started watching him,
05:32because for me, like, I don't watch college basketball all year long.
05:35I hear everyone talk about guys,
05:36and then I kind of lock in at the end of the year.
05:38I didn't see what everybody saw.
05:40Like, everyone's like, oh, I can't really shoot the three.
05:42This guy?
05:43This guy's pretty good at shooting the three.
05:44The guy with a nice stroke, a good touch.
05:45So, I didn't get that.
05:47But I understand how we're in a place where he is not on the same level
05:50as DeBonsa or Peterson.
05:52But when he talks, I always like hearing him speak.
05:55Yeah.
05:55There's a little Carl Anthony Towns there.
05:57There's some Kevin Love there.
05:58These are really good players, right?
05:59Because he doesn't touch the top of the backboard
06:01and because he doesn't, I don't know, neither does his dad, by the way,
06:05win every sprint.
06:06Just a strong bull who can play really physically right now
06:09and who's got advanced kind of understanding of the game
06:12and I think will develop a little bit more face-up.
06:14So, he'll be able to score all three levels.
06:17And to me, that's worth an awful lot.
06:18Jed Bushler or Bill Wennington?
06:20Bill Wennington.
06:23Luol Deng or DeMar DeRozan?
06:26DeRozan.
06:27They were both strong bulls.
06:29That's true.
06:29That's true.
06:30Grant and Danny on the fan.
06:31We'll take you up to Nats baseball tonight.
06:346-10.
06:34We've got you for a little while here.
06:36C.J. Moore covered Darren Peterson in college,
06:39so we'll talk to him at 325 about what went wrong with Peterson this year
06:42at Kansas and why he's probably not going to go number one.
06:46Pierre Garçon thinks Stephon Diggs should sign with the Commanders.
06:48We're going to talk to Pierre at 425 on the fan.
