00:42In the war on crime
00:45Clash, clash
00:48Here's what it is isn't it
00:49We find and we lock them up
00:53Coming up
00:55Vehicle's trying to run this way out
00:56Stand by
00:57A fast food fan is in one heck of a hurry
01:01One running parallel to the A4 team
01:05I think you might go mate if you get out
01:07A shifty looking beamer lays down the gauntlet
01:11You have to get a game
01:131-1 got vehicles fighting to stop
01:15Buick Road, Northampton
01:19And
01:21An act of senseless violence
01:23Kicks up an evening of chaos for the cops
01:26Have a hand behind your back
01:46It's the weekend
01:48Typically the busiest time for any police officer
01:51Especially those on the night shift
01:54In Northamptonshire
01:56With more than two decades experience
01:58Policing between them
01:59Firearms cops
02:00Tony and Nathan
02:01Know exactly what lies in store
02:04Tonight is Saturday night
02:07Which means we're going to get
02:08Drink drivers
02:09Fights
02:10There's a big FA Cup game today
02:13Is it Northampton and Kettering?
02:16Northampton, Kettering and Kettering 1
02:18Which is a big shock
02:19There's going to be a lot of
02:21Intoxicated people from that
02:23You can still early doors
02:24It's only half nine
02:25But I'd imagine there's going to be
02:26A lot of fights
02:26And a larger driver's tonight
02:39It's now the early hours
02:41And at this town centre night spot
02:43The evening has passed largely without incident
02:47Until now
02:50A man on the street
02:51Has launched his boot into the frontage
02:53As a group of shock revellers gather to watch
02:56He does it again
02:58And again
03:00Until all four windows have been shattered
03:03Moments later
03:04He's wrestled to the ground by the bar's bouncer
03:10Yeah, I think the door staff
03:12Starts dealing with him
03:13On the outskirts of town
03:15Dog handler Sean
03:16Is the closest interceptor to the action
03:20Yeah, I can go down there
03:23What are they doing with him?
03:24What do you mean he's got entertained?
03:27As always
03:28Sean has German shepherd Peggy in the boot
03:31Copied
03:32It's at the top end by
03:33Radio Northampton
03:36But the boozed up chaos of a busy nightlife area
03:39Isn't a safe space for a police dog
03:41Yeah, Delta 5 or 10, 6
03:43We're not very popular with quite a few of them
03:47So Sean must step into this uncertain
03:50And potentially hostile situation alone
03:53Sean, are you probably seeing?
03:54Hello
03:54How are you, all right?
03:56Every single one of our windows just at the bottom there
03:57It was smashed
03:58He's done that, has he?
03:59Yeah, he's done it
03:59So we've got him detained on the floor
04:00Right, come back
04:01Thank you very much
04:05Yeah, I'm going to need transport
04:06He smashed all the windows at the pub
04:08It turns out the bloke who kicked the window
04:11Was a disgruntled drinker
04:12Who'd been ejected and refused re-entry
04:16Let's just make sure someone watches my van
04:19He's still on the pavement
04:20Under the watchful eye of the bouncer
04:23Hey, buddy, you all right?
04:25Are we leaving well?
04:26One second
04:28Put your hands in front of you
04:29Put your hands in front of you
04:30Just like something like that
04:31Put your hands in front of you, boy
04:32I'm all right, one more rest
04:33That's what you want to do
04:34The rest of the criminal damage
04:35Don't ever stand in my own
04:36If you don't mention when question something
04:37We're late when I'm only caught
04:38And they do say we'll be given an evidence
04:40The bloke's using all his strength
04:42To resist the cuffs
04:47You want to be an idiot?
04:49You want to be an idiot?
04:50Okay
04:50Can you go on your front then?
04:52Can you go on the front then?
04:53Yep
04:55Fortunately, the bouncer is on team interceptor
04:58Put your other hand behind the back
05:02Other hand behind your back
05:08And with the help of a second member of the door staff team
05:11The window kicker is finally in cuffs
05:24The prime suspect may be secured
05:27But this whole scenario is rapidly becoming a powder keg
05:37Especially for a cop on his own
05:43Sean needs extra muscle ASAP
05:47Come on, Volvo
05:51This pair will do nicely
05:54He's struggling, trying to control one of them by himself
05:57Door staff are having to run over to help him
06:00So we're just going to give him assistance
06:01Left, left
06:04Before becoming a cop
06:05Man-mounting Tony was in the army
06:08These days his passions are rugby, red meat and lifting weights
06:12Which is also known as the tough guy holy trinity
06:16Through there
06:17Through this gap here
06:21His partner tonight, Nathan, also knows his way around the gym
06:27These two should be able to keep a lid on any simmering tensions
06:42There's now more than 50 people spilling out on the streets
06:45We're not going to talk to you
06:47We don't need to talk to you
06:48Okay
06:48So off you go
06:54Keeping the mob calm and the suspect secured
06:57Is like walking a slippery tightrope
06:59All they're doing is rolling you onto your side
07:03You don't need to move
07:04We'll move
07:06I'll move over
07:08Because the man resisted when he was being cuffed
07:11He says his arm hurts
07:14He's resisting
07:15But his shouting seems to light a fuse with the crowd
07:24With camera phones in their faces
07:26The police do their best to keep the onlookers contained
07:29But tensions soon reach boiling point
07:34In the melee a woman swings her leg at one of the interceptors
07:38Big mistake
07:41Every two you need to come down Ampton Street
07:43You need to do it now
07:48As the police attempt to restrain her
07:50Friends rush to her defence
07:54And another woman has to be called off
07:57Their one job now
07:58To stop things spiralling
08:00Completely out of control
08:03Get off with me
08:04Get off with me
08:04You're a throwing me
08:20In Northampton, dog handler Sean raced to the town centre
08:24to detain a man who'd been kicking in windows at a popular bar.
08:29But when a crowd of partygoers turned on the cops,
08:32when one woman swung a leg at one of the interceptors,
08:36things erupted into chaos.
08:47Lashing out as a police officer is one of the quickest ways to get yourself nicked.
09:1115 minutes after Sean first rocked up, the riot vans arrived.
09:18But now, it's a taxi for two.
09:22And with that, it's finally time to hit the road.
09:32There's quite a few there, more than I anticipated when they gave the original call out.
09:36And the crowd was quite hostile straight away.
09:40The language towards the police car on our arrival didn't bode well.
09:44Obviously, I'm on my own.
09:45You can't get the dog out just at that for a group.
09:47And I didn't see the chap who was on the floor because of the crowd.
09:51Then the bouncers have come over and explained that they've smashed all the windows on the pub.
09:55So I've tried to arrest him for the criminal damage,
09:57at which point he's just kicked off and tried to throw the bouncer off and try and get up.
10:01So I ended up in a bit of a melee on the floor trying to get him in handcuffs.
10:05And then I had to just wait until everybody else arrived.
10:07But it's one of those situations where you've got people behind you
10:09and I can hear glass breaking.
10:11It's not a nice place to be when you're on your own and the dog's not out of the car.
10:15Tony predicted a busy night and he was bang on the money.
10:19They've got 18 in and 3 in the money.
10:23And it's not good news from the Nick.
10:25Just been told the Northampton custody suite is full.
10:29They can't accept any more prisoners.
10:32Therefore, the two prisoners we've got, we've now got to go to Kettering.
10:39The worry of the thing is there's still another two and a half, three hours left of their drinking time,
10:43which means it's only going to get worse.
10:45There's now no space in custody, no officers on the street.
10:49Drunken behaviour and alcohol-related incidents put a massive strain on police resources.
10:55In England and Wales, almost 40% of violent crime cases are thought to be fuelled by booze.
11:06At custody, the man has finally stopped lashing out, giving Tony a glimpse of his ankle jewellery.
11:12What's the tag for?
11:14Johnson balance.
11:16It's unlikely his probation officer will be thrilled to hear about tonight's antics.
11:22But for the Interceptors this evening, a rapid response helped defuse a highly combustible situation.
11:30When Sean shouts for help, because we work so close to the DLVs and the dogs, there's not many of
11:35us.
11:36So when one of us goes somewhere and one of us shouts for help, no matter where we are, the
11:39rest of us will drop what we're doing
11:40and try and make as quick as we can to help them.
11:43We're a very tight-knit team and we work as a family.
11:46We've dispersed most of the crowd and, as it stands, we've got two and Kessie a minute and, hopefully, that's
11:50done for the rest of the night.
11:52After the night at Kettering Nick, the woman was released without charge.
11:57However, a window smasher was interviewed in relation to the suspected criminal damage and later pleaded guilty in court.
12:04He was ordered to pay nearly £200 in fines and costs.
12:17One white male driver, no other occupant.
12:20A high-speed pursuit.
12:22Through the red ATS.
12:24Is like a heavyweight fight.
12:27It's going round and round about, it's a reciprocal.
12:29Your opponent can duck and dive.
12:32You alright?
12:33Yep.
12:34And even land the occasional left hook.
12:37I believe it's made contact with another vehicle.
12:40But the toughest part of any contest...
12:43Confirm you want an abort, abort.
12:46...is knowing when to throw in the towel.
12:48Vehicle's continuing towards Kettering.
12:51I have aborted.
12:55If, for whatever reason, we've had a vehicle fail to stop and we haven't been able to get a tactic
13:00in place,
13:02it's really frustrating.
13:03The upside is, if we're able to still locate the car afterwards, there's so much evidence within that car and
13:11also it's just a little tick in the box for us because if it's a stolen car, then it's no
13:16longer stolen.
13:17If we've recovered that car, if it's just a no-docs vehicle, or you've taken that car off the road,
13:22it's one less uninsured driver on the road who may have had a crash.
13:26So, there are actually a load of benefits to get in that car, even if you don't get the driver,
13:32so you haven't really lost anything.
13:45Right, go wait up.
13:47You know by the school down here?
13:49Oh, yeah, there.
13:51It's Thursday evening and Chris and Callum have been sent on a mission.
13:55We're waiting for a vehicle with some very loose drugs intel on to drive past, so we're just going to
14:01park up and see if we can see who's in it and just see how it reacts, basically.
14:06The suspect motor, a Ford Cougar, pinged a local ANPR camera a few minutes ago.
14:13That's a Cougar, I think.
14:15I think that's a woman driving it though, mate, but it is a black Cougar.
14:18That is going to be the car.
14:19Yeah, that is it.
14:19The boys are in the marked car, so the Cougar surely clocked them.
14:24I didn't notice him paying as much attention though.
14:28He's committing any onto the...
14:30Oh, hello.
14:34Now, a sharp burst of acceleration from that Beamer up ahead has tweaked Chris's copper's nose.
14:40Sorry, I'm more interested in this now.
14:42I know.
14:43Sounds like the Cougar will have to wait.
14:46I don't know why he was accelerating so hard.
14:48No.
14:49I'm going to try this one.
14:52Callum runs the Beamer's particulars.
14:55We've got traffic offences in Derbyshire in October.
14:58This bloke's definitely worth a sniff.
15:02Oh, that's interesting.
15:04The drive has taken two successive left turns.
15:07Not a crime in itself, but it's definitely raising flags.
15:11Just doing a strange old route for someone from Market Harbor as well.
15:17Advanced driver Chris says the best advice he's ever received on the force is that two lefts don't make a
15:23right.
15:25Do you like him up?
15:27So he shows him the blues.
15:30And the fella complies.
15:32You really stopping there?
15:35But the boys smell a rat.
15:38I think you might go, mate, if you get out.
15:41Yeah, so it's on the brake.
15:43Callum decides to test him.
15:46Yeah, yeah, get in.
15:49Go.
15:511-1, got a vehicle failing to stop.
15:53Buick Road, Northampton.
15:56The Sporty 3 Series has shot off like a rocket.
15:59But the boys are in a Beamer 2.
16:01A 340i packing 369 horses.
16:06I'll give you the red, please.
16:08But there's not good news from Control.
16:13The Lumbertub's waiting north.
16:15What's the thing we want to do?
16:18The situation has been deemed unsafe for the boys to pursue.
16:22So they've got little choice but to abort.
16:26Knew he's going to go.
16:28One mod, he was doing excess speed when we got behind him.
16:31He was doing well excess and 100 miles an hour up Lumbertub's.
16:33He's just gone on into the distance now, Lumbertub's north.
16:37But they haven't lost sight of him completely.
16:40He's actually, we can see in the distance, he's going into the eastern districts.
16:42He's hazards on, he's stopped.
16:44He's got his hazards on.
16:46So what's he playing at?
16:49Can we have the dog towards us?
16:50He's gone in towards Thorplands.
16:52Can the dog just head towards anywhere?
16:53I know we can't pursue it, but he's gone into an estate.
16:55Probably going to decamp.
16:57But just as quickly as he reappeared, the suspect vanishes once more.
17:03Left forward.
17:03Keep going, Val.
17:04Keep going, Val.
17:06The boys crisscross the area for the next 10 minutes.
17:12I reckon that left, mate, when we came in.
17:15Because I reckon they came in left decamp.
17:17Get out of the way.
17:19They soon receive intel that the suspect Beamer has been ditched in another housing estate
17:25nearby.
17:26For the offence of failing to stop for police, we can, if we locate the vehicle, even if
17:31no one's with it, we've got a power of seizure to seize the vehicle.
17:34So if we find it, we'll certainly be having it away.
17:38When they arrive on the scene, the dog handler's already there, and he's had a good look around
17:44the motor.
17:45There's scratches all the way around it.
17:47Bonnets, sides.
17:48Oh, dear.
17:49Tyres are knackered.
17:50Oh, look at that.
17:52Let's take that alloy.
17:54This poor old 3 Series has certainly been through the wars.
17:58Oh, he's got the seat reclined in, um, insert your own word for it here mode.
18:03Yeah.
18:04Yeah, you see all the cannabis dust and crap in the seats.
18:07The car is registered to a private business in Leicestershire, and once police have tracked
18:12down the owner, they'll have a few questions to answer about who was behind the wheel this
18:17evening.
18:18And they'll need to fork out a few hundred quid if they want it released from the pound.
18:24It's a shame, obviously, we haven't got somebody out of it and someone in custody.
18:27But we've got to take a win when there's a win.
18:29And we've taken the vehicle off of him, um, so he's going to have to pay the fees to get
18:33it back, he or she.
18:35Um, they're going to have to also give us a line of inquiry to see who's been driving
18:39it tonight.
18:40Um, I identify who's decided not to stop for us when they've driven like a Wally.
18:44Um, so now it's a good result, really, overall.
18:48And I've got to, um, as well, kneel to us for the night.
18:53Despite thorough investigation, it couldn't be established who was behind the car.
18:57in the wheel during the pursuit.
19:00With no definitive evidence identifying the driver, the case was eventually filed.
19:07Coming up.
19:09Harrison takes one for the team.
19:11Yeah, vehicle's trying to run its way out.
19:13A minute, stand by.
19:14And later.
19:15Reverse ramp, reverse ramp.
19:17Reverse ramp, vehicle's been ramp.
19:20So do Chris and Callum.
19:23Show me your arms now!
19:24Get out!
19:25Get out now!
19:26Let me take it!
19:41It's ramming up.
19:42It's ramming up.
19:44A suspect doesn't need a gun or a knife to be armed and dangerous.
19:48Why?
19:50It's rammed up vehicle.
19:52Because in the wrong hands, a two-ton motor can be a deadly weapon.
19:59We're doing rams.
20:00We're doing rams.
20:03It's always in the back of your mind, uh, that you have to deal with people trying to
20:07ram you.
20:08Sometimes they'll put into reverse and try reverse ramming us.
20:12And other times they'll try, um, knocking us off the road as we're trying to do tactics
20:17to resolve the pursuit, and inherently it is quite dangerous, and sometimes it results
20:23in a car being off the road for a few weeks.
20:25The main thing, as long as I get to go home at the end of the day, I'm happy.
20:29The main thing, as long as I get to go home at the end of the day, I'll come round
20:49to you.
20:50And Harrison is hungry for his next job.
20:54Confirm that vehicle's in the drive-thru.
20:56Because tonight, the Interceptors have unfinished business.
21:01We had a vehicle yesterday that Leicestershire passed us, and it's a cloned Santa Fe, where
21:07an Irish place went after it last night, and it disappeared into a sort of rural area near
21:12Desborough on the border.
21:14Um, we've got to go after it.
21:16We've got a few cars heading after it again.
21:18Yeah.
21:20Interceptor Bertie is currently parked up at a drive-thru McDonald's, where the suspect
21:24is buying his dinner.
21:26It's a big old unit of a car, so we want to get as many cars near it as possible,
21:30and
21:30hopefully get some tactics on it, authorised to get it stopped, ideally, before it leaves
21:35the drive-thru area.
21:37When it comes to getting takeaways, Harrison's got more of a taste for Chinese than Mackie D's.
21:43He'll take a big duck over a Big Mac any day of the week.
21:48It's in the McDonald's drive-thru on that side of the road at the minute, so...
21:51But if there's a wrong-un at the Golden Arches, he'll happily pay them a visit.
21:56It should be in there.
21:58It's at the last window at the minute.
22:01Harrison must cross the carriageway sharpish to give Bertie the backup he needs.
22:07Obviously, there is a risk if it's on clone plates that it may fail to stop, so we'll see if
22:12we can get it whilst it's in the car park.
22:16Fortunately for the Interceptors, tonight's fast food isn't living up to its name.
22:23It's still at the last window.
22:24It's got three occupants.
22:26But with three people in the car, Harrison has certainly got his plate full.
22:31It's going to be sitting in the car park, Bert.
22:34He's in the unmarked, so finds a quiet place to keep watch.
22:39What do you reckon, Bertie?
22:40Try and get it stopped before it leaves the car park?
22:43I don't know.
22:44It's difficult, isn't it?
22:47I suppose I could come in head-on if you pull out behind it.
22:51But before they can fully formulate a plan...
22:54It's just coming out now.
22:56Dinner is served.
22:58In fact, it may be reverse parking.
23:01It's reverse parking into a space.
23:04With Mr. Hyundai parked up, Harrison can easily make him the filling in a sandwich.
23:10But this fella's no mcchicken.
23:16Yeah, the vehicle's trying to ram its way out at the minute.
23:19Stand by.
23:23One running parallel to the A14.
23:26Having shunted Harrison's Volvo, the driver's scarpered.
23:31He's across the A14.
23:34Can you get a dog to us, please?
23:36And he's risked his life by legging it across the busy dual carriageway.
23:41He's running across the westbound at the minute.
23:44Icy one male, great track suits.
23:49He's through a hedge at the minute.
23:51I can't get across, because there's traffic.
23:53Back at the scene, Bertie has the Hyundai's two passengers in cuffs.
23:57You've got a drone?
24:01Yeah, I've got one, but I've got two in the car.
24:03So Harrison must focus on the driver.
24:056-4-1-3.
24:07Yeah, I can't get across the road at the minute.
24:09He's dived through a hedge.
24:10I can see where he's gone.
24:12As soon as there's a safe break in traffic,
24:16he's out the blocks.
24:21OK, I'll be out, I'm into the fields as well with him.
24:24But has the daredevil runner had too much of a head start?
24:28Is that drone going up, sorry?
24:30If the suspect's lurking in the field,
24:32a drone's thermal imaging camera could light him up like a Christmas tree.
24:38Home point updated.
24:42You can see from the drone bird, this is where he's come over,
24:45where the torch is.
24:46There's no sign of the runner yet,
24:48but more resources are en route.
24:52Hopefully the dog can track him this way,
24:53keep him in this area somewhere.
24:55The dog unit is 15 minutes away,
24:58but with each second that passes,
25:00the suspect slips further from their grass.
25:04I can't see anything in the ground there.
25:06I wonder if he's gone to ground.
25:08With a roadblock in place,
25:10they decide to tap their final resource.
25:18I ain't going to lose my life over chasing all across the carriageway,
25:20so we've got a helicopter on the way,
25:24we've got a dog on the way,
25:25hence why I've just stopped here.
25:26Hopefully the dog can pick up a truck.
25:28First on the scene, though,
25:30is the chopper.
25:33I've got the two opposites,
25:35just giving the head roads,
25:36right to the location.
25:38And now dog handler Brad's arrived
25:40with German shepherd Piper.
25:43Anything past that trough,
25:45or down the right-hand side,
25:45not being done.
25:46He came flying over this way.
25:51It's now nearly half an hour
25:53since the runner disappeared into the field.
25:56The only thing I can think is
25:57if he's gone down the right.
26:00But neither Piper's nose,
26:03nor the two eyes in the sky,
26:05have managed to figure out which way he went.
26:20Despite throwing multiple resources at the search...
26:23Thank you, mate.
26:25..on this occasion,
26:26the interceptors will have to settle
26:28for an evening of mixed results.
26:31It's still drivable.
26:32The grille's fine.
26:33There's no damage to the lights and everything.
26:35At the end of the day,
26:36the car's there at all to do the job.
26:37Essentially, we've stopped him failing to stop.
26:40And clearly, in hindsight,
26:41he'd have took chase and probably been dangerous.
26:44If he's willing to ram police vehicles at that stage,
26:47God knows what he'll do
26:48in an actual chase with members of the public on the road.
26:50So hopefully the forensics on the vehicle
26:52will show his driving.
26:53So fingers crossed.
26:56Ramming a cop car is an act of sheer desperation.
27:01And an interceptor never knows
27:02when a cornered criminal
27:04might suddenly decide to lash out.
27:16That plate looks like it's been stuck off.
27:18Have a look.
27:19Yeah, I've got a gas.
27:21It's late on a Monday.
27:23About to join the A5-09.
27:26Chris and Callum reckon the Range Rover
27:28they've just got behind
27:29could have dodgy plates.
27:32Range Rover Evoque in black, I think, is it?
27:35They're in the marked car,
27:37so decide to tail it
27:38and see if the driver reacts.
27:41And it's nearly just collided
27:43with a Ranger in the second lane.
27:46Not only is the manner of driving a bit sus,
27:49but there's something else about this scenario
27:51that's ringing alarm bells.
27:54That's a pretty nice one, isn't it?
27:56The Ford's pickup plates
27:57also bear the hallmarks of a possible clone.
28:01Ford Ranger in grey.
28:02Of course, they've got tape on the plate.
28:07We're going to go with the Ford Ranger.
28:09Having decided to follow the pickup,
28:11they sit back and hatch a plan.
28:14We are an advanced TPAC driver
28:16and suitable vehicle.
28:18The vehicle's currently not failing to stop at the moment.
28:21My thoughts are,
28:22with the lack of TPAC at the moment,
28:23for a boxing resolution,
28:24we do a sting, a pre-emptive sting,
28:27and hand over to M-Pass to take over.
28:30The Ford pickup weighs it
28:31at nearly two and a half tonnes
28:33and packs a heavyweight punch,
28:35so the interceptors want to sting it
28:38to avoid a pursuit.
28:39It's multiple occupants inside,
28:41unknown occupants,
28:42unknown if they're armed.
28:43But the nearest stinger unit
28:45is ten minutes away.
28:47They're thinking about where to go, aren't they?
28:50And now the boys are presented
28:51with a different challenge.
28:54We're a left-left now.
28:55We're into a McDonald's.
28:58The driver's made a beeline for McDonald's,
29:01so the interceptors fall in behind
29:03and hope he doesn't get spooked.
29:06I want one interest
29:07and he's now ordering food
29:08at the drive-thru.
29:10Dog handler Lucy is en route.
29:12The new plan is to box him in
29:14before he's even had a slurp
29:15on his milkshake.
29:18What is the ETA for our next year
29:20to this McDonald's?
29:22The boys don't even order,
29:24so their intentions
29:25are now crystal clear.
29:28They definitely know
29:29it's all in, wouldn't they?
29:31Fortunately,
29:31Lucy is just a matter
29:33of seconds away.
29:34Moving off from the drive-thru now.
29:36Coming out of the drive-thru.
29:39Oh, pre-emptive reinforced stop,
29:40I think,
29:40if you're happy with that,
29:41given the low speeds.
29:43Although the pickup has parked,
29:45he looks like he's kept
29:46his engine on.
29:47He's in front of you.
29:48If you go on the long,
29:49we'll take the short.
29:51Strike, strike, strike.
29:51The interceptors pounce.
29:55Reverse ram, reverse ram.
29:59Reverse ram, vehicle's been rammed.
30:11There you are!
30:15After being rammed,
30:17Chris leaps out
30:18to confront the driver.
30:20Because the lad continues
30:22pounding into both cop cars,
30:23Chris takes a hammer
30:24to the window
30:25to get him out.
30:28Amid the chaos,
30:29a rear passenger
30:30escapes on foot.
30:35Get out!
30:43The threat of 50,000 volts
30:45works a charm.
30:49You're under arrest
30:50of official criminal damage.
30:51You have to say anything,
30:52but in Miami defense,
30:53do not mention questions
30:53of your lack reliant in court.
30:55Anything you do say
30:56may be given evidence.
30:58To the floor!
30:59To the floor now!
31:02As well as the driver,
31:04a passenger
31:04has also been cuffed.
31:06Go under arrest
31:06the man,
31:07especially in a theft
31:07of motor vehicle.
31:09You're also under arrest
31:10of failing to stop.
31:12Failing to stop?
31:13Yes, mate,
31:14when we put the blue lights on
31:15and you try and drive off,
31:16that's failing to stop,
31:17isn't it?
31:18Well done.
31:19That's three serious
31:20offences in as many minutes,
31:22but Callum has saved
31:23the worst for last.
31:25You forgot to pick up
31:26your McSpicy as well,
31:27and ask you to park
31:28in day one.
31:29They should throw away
31:30the key for that one.
31:32What's your current age?
31:33Sixteen.
31:35Sixteen?
31:36You are further under arrest
31:37for driving without a licence
31:38and driving with no insurance
31:39if you are sixteen, OK?
31:41This young chap's got
31:42some serious questions
31:44to answer back at the nick.
31:46The cloned Hyundai
31:48that rammed Harrison earlier
31:49was never claimed
31:50and was later crushed.
31:52The passengers were released
31:54without charge,
31:55and for now,
31:55the man who ran
31:56remains at large.
32:00So too does the lad
32:01who ran from the pick-up.
32:03However,
32:04the underage driver
32:05of the pick-up
32:05got done for criminal damage,
32:07driving without a licence
32:09and without insurance.
32:11He got six points
32:12on his record,
32:13a £250 fine,
32:15and a nine-month
32:16rehabilitation order.
32:18Both him and his passenger
32:20remain under investigation
32:21for the theft
32:22of the vehicle.
32:33It's Friday evening,
32:34and rolling out
32:35for the start
32:35of her night shift
32:36is dog handler Lucy.
32:39We're just going
32:40for a vehicle
32:41that hit an A&PR camera
32:43on the A14,
32:44and there's another
32:44officer behind it,
32:46driving a bit erratically,
32:47so we're just all tipping out
32:49to see if we can get it
32:50stopped safely.
32:52The car has previously
32:54failed to stop
32:55for the cops.
32:56Plus,
32:56it's got a marker
32:57for document offences.
32:59Just waiting for a suitable place
33:01to try and get it
33:02stopped.
33:02It's near the minute alone
33:03to be nowhere
33:04to stop at the plate once.
33:06Lucy is still
33:07two miles
33:08from the action.
33:14We're 30 seconds behind you.
33:17But on the A14,
33:19interceptor Max
33:20has just caught up.
33:23In the sixth floor,
33:24we're behind you there.
33:26In the marked car
33:27ahead of him,
33:28Harrison Beverley
33:29is waiting
33:29for a moment
33:30to pounce.
33:32Vehicle is slowing,
33:33next time,
33:33bit of labour,
33:34we'll go for it.
33:35I'm fine.
33:37Now Max is here,
33:38Harrison flicks
33:39on the blues.
33:49As they approach
33:51the lay-by,
33:51it looks like
33:52it's job done.
34:00But the blokes
34:01bolted before,
34:02so Max heads him off
34:03just to be safe.
34:09Moments later,
34:10Lucy's on the scene.
34:12Her partner this evening
34:13is Cocker Spaniel
34:14and expert drug sniffer,
34:16Socks.
34:17Let's go and see
34:18if they want it searching.
34:20The driver has admitted
34:22to being disqualified,
34:23so is already in cuffs.
34:25And the marker on his car
34:26is murky,
34:27to say the least.
34:29Counterfeit foreign documents.
34:31It's not really drugs,
34:33is it?
34:33But it's probably worth
34:34searching it by hand
34:36rather than the dog.
34:38Sounds like the nose
34:39they'll be relying on tonight
34:40will be the coppers
34:41rather than the canine.
34:43If we find anything
34:44drug-related,
34:45I'll put the dog in,
34:46but the marker
34:46doesn't say anything
34:47about drugs, so...
34:48Lucy goes in first.
34:53Baseball bat.
34:54And pulls out
34:55some sporting goods.
34:56There's a baseball bat
34:57down the side
34:58of the passenger seat.
34:59He won't be hitting
35:00any home runs
35:01with it stuffed
35:02down there.
35:03There's flakes
35:04of cannabis.
35:06It's everywhere,
35:07isn't it?
35:07Yeah.
35:08There's quite a lot
35:09in the back as well,
35:10like flakes of it.
35:11A few cannabis crumbs
35:13isn't exactly
35:14a big score.
35:16Lucy?
35:17Cut.
35:18But has Joe
35:19just knocked it
35:20out of the park?
35:21Oh, nice.
35:23So, um, what's that
35:24one bag containing
35:26one, two, three,
35:28four, four, six,
35:29around six individual
35:32deal bags.
35:33Should we put the dog
35:33through them?
35:34Yeah.
35:34Yeah, take that out.
35:36Joe's just found some
35:37class A, so I'm going to
35:37put socks through.
35:39He's no sniffer dog,
35:40but he's no ordinary Joe
35:41either.
35:43So far, we've found
35:45roughly six individual
35:47deal bags of a white
35:48powder, possibly cocaine,
35:50and so Lucy's going to get
35:51the drug dog out, run the
35:53dog over the car, see what
35:54else we can find.
35:57If there's more drugs in
35:59the car, socks will soon
36:00sniff them out.
36:05Meanwhile, Interceptor
36:06Sandra is after something
36:07even more unsavoury.
36:09So, stick your tongue out
36:10for me.
36:11A sample of saliva from
36:12the driver.
36:13So, this test is going to
36:15take eight minutes, and
36:16I'll update my colleague
36:17while he's travelling to
36:18custody, if it comes up
36:19to positive, all right?
36:21Back at the car.
36:22Happy?
36:23I think so.
36:24Yeah.
36:25Socks has had his nose
36:26over every inch of the
36:27interior.
36:29The other officers
36:29obviously found the six
36:31wraps of what we think
36:32is probably cocaine.
36:34Socks hasn't found
36:34anything in addition to
36:35that yet, and the
36:36driver's obviously
36:37disqualified as well,
36:38so it's a good stop in
36:39the end.
36:40There's no more dodgy
36:41parcels here, so Lucy
36:42calls it.
36:44Yeah, I think that's it,
36:45mate, to be honest.
36:47But eight minutes have
36:48now passed since the
36:49drug wipe, which means
36:50the results are in.
36:52He was swerving when
36:53he was driving and
36:54speeding up from
36:54100 to 60 and 50
36:56and back up to 100.
36:58We put him on a
36:59drug wipe and he's
37:00tested positive for
37:00cannabis and for
37:01cocaine, so we'll go
37:03to custody, disqualified
37:05and for driving
37:06probably.
37:07So, yeah,
37:08I'll have to do it.
37:10The fellow wasn't charged
37:12with possession of class A,
37:14but he did plead guilty
37:15to driving whilst disqualified
37:17and without insurance.
37:19He was ordered to pay 200
37:20pounds and was banned from
37:22driving for 14 months.
37:25He was also charged with
37:27drug driving, but the case
37:28was later dropped at court.
37:33Still to come.
37:34Your offside brake light's not
37:36working.
37:36A roadside MOT.
37:38So you've got no headlights.
37:40That fails to illuminate.
37:41There's quite a lot of issues
37:43with this, isn't there?
37:59It's lunchtime.
38:02MG from 14 for
38:03Co2 vehicle check.
38:05And Joe Wood is having a
38:07nibble on a suspicious
38:08Vauxhall.
38:09This vehicle in front,
38:11silver, Vauxhall, Astra.
38:12It's in quite a poor state
38:14of repair.
38:15I think it's supposed to be
38:17silver slash grey,
38:18but covered in mud.
38:20Cops have learned that
38:21drivers who don't maintain
38:22their cars often don't
38:24maintain their insurance
38:25premiums either.
38:27I'm pretty sure as well
38:28that from the Motor
38:31Insurance Bureau, Astra's
38:32off statistically one of the
38:34most uninsured vehicles.
38:36This one's come back on
38:37PNC as insured.
38:39Documents in order,
38:40however, we'll put a stop
38:42on it, see who's driving
38:43it, and make sure
38:44everything's OK.
38:52Blues, twos, and the
38:53copper's finger have the
38:54desired effect.
39:01Hi there, how are you
39:01doing, all right?
39:02Yeah, not too bad.
39:04Just a routine stop, just
39:05to make sure everything's
39:06in order with the vehicle.
39:07What insurance have you got
39:08to drive the vehicle?
39:10I've run out of data, so
39:11I can't just borrow this
39:12off.
39:13The bloke says the beaten
39:15up Astra belongs to his
39:16boss, who's insured him to
39:17drive it for 24 hours.
39:20Joe has his doubts.
39:22Potential insurance issue,
39:23they're saying that the
39:24keeper put a day policy on
39:26it earlier on, so see if
39:28we can get evidence of
39:29that, if not, it'll be
39:30coming with us.
39:31It doesn't take long to
39:32establish three things.
39:35Right.
39:36Joe's suspicions are bang
39:37on.
39:37I don't think you've got
39:38any insurance for this.
39:39This guy's walking home.
39:41One, four, can I organise
39:43one, six, five, recovery,
39:44please, with no insurance?
39:45And the Astra's status as
39:47one of the country's most
39:48uninsured cars remains
39:49intact.
39:51If the boss turns up and
39:52goes, oh yeah, here's the
39:53policy, look, and it's all
39:54legit, then we can just
39:55discount this, all right?
39:56Yeah.
39:57Enter a new player, stage
39:59left.
39:59Who are you then?
40:00Are you the...
40:00I'm the registered to
40:01the insurance?
40:02You're the registered
40:02keeper.
40:03So what's the reason for
40:05Micah driving the
40:05vehicle?
40:06Just borrowing it to go
40:07away.
40:07Right, OK.
40:08Yeah, I was getting him
40:09on the insurance, so I
40:10was on the phone to him
40:11there.
40:13The boss says he was
40:14just getting around to
40:16sorting the insurance,
40:17but you know, admin
40:18issues.
40:19An excuse which won't
40:20put any ice with Joe.
40:22You'll be reported for
40:24driving without insurance,
40:26and you'll be reported for
40:27causing and permitting
40:28Micah to drive without
40:29insurance.
40:30But it's not all bad
40:31news for the boss.
40:33You're insured on this,
40:34aren't you?
40:34Yes, yeah, yeah.
40:35Right, OK.
40:36So given that you're now
40:37here, I don't need to
40:40take this vehicle away
40:40anymore.
40:41I can let you take it,
40:42but you will be getting
40:43reported as well, OK?
40:45The pair are free to go.
40:47Right, cheers.
40:48Cheers, then.
40:50Another statistic in the
40:51tale of one of Britain's
40:52most uninsured cars.
40:54We said earlier on the
40:56amount of these that are
40:58uninsured, that just came
40:59true, didn't it?
41:12And no sooner is Joe back
41:14on the dual carriageway...
41:16Can I get a coat too,
41:17please?
41:18...that he gets a second
41:19chance to road test the
41:20starts of the Motor
41:21Insurance Bureau.
41:23There's an Astrian Lane 2,
41:25looked a bit quick,
41:26sitting around 8.
41:27Added to that, there's a
41:28light out in the back.
41:30Once Joe overtakes, the
41:31front's not much better.
41:33And I can see there's a
41:34light out in the front,
41:35so just worth a check.
41:37The interceptor lights
41:38his follow me sign and
41:40leads the Astra off the
41:41dual carriageway into a
41:43lay-by.
41:48How you doing, all right?
41:49The reason I stopped you
41:50in the first place was your
41:51speed, all right?
41:52No, I didn't go over 8.
41:54No?
41:55I'm not going to give you a
41:56ticket for that, all right?
41:57But vehicle then, whose is it?
41:59It's my vehicle.
41:59I've got an insurance
42:00certificate and shit,
42:01you want to see it?
42:02Yeah, yeah, go for it if
42:02you've got documents.
42:04It looks like this Astra won't
42:06bolster the uninsured
42:07statistics.
42:11Perfect.
42:12But it is a bit of a wreck.
42:14You've got a nearside light
42:16out and you've got your
42:17offside brake light's not
42:18working.
42:20So you've got no
42:21headlights.
42:23OK, and is there any
42:24main beam?
42:25Yeah.
42:29Just the one side,
42:30naturally.
42:31So you've got main beam on
42:32that side but no headlights,
42:34right?
42:35They are getting done.
42:37I think you are too.
42:39There's quite a lot of
42:40issues with this, isn't there?
42:42It looks like a PG-9 job
42:44prohibiting the car from
42:46public roads.
42:47The vehicle's going to have a
42:48prohibition put on it, which
42:49basically means you can't drive
42:50the vehicle anymore.
42:51But the driver has one bit
42:53of luck on his side.
42:54I like that.
42:56Technically, it is PG-9,
42:59but it's still daylight.
43:00I can't do that.
43:01Because it's daytime, it's
43:03going to get away without the
43:04car being seized.
43:06I'd say if you get to the
43:07headlights change, then...
43:09Yeah, I'll get it all done
43:10today.
43:11But when Joe has a closer
43:12look, there's exposed metal
43:14on the mirror.
43:15You clip a cyclist, rather than
43:17a nice bit of curved plastic
43:18hitting on it.
43:19You've got this metal
43:20hitting on it.
43:20Yeah, I appreciate that.
43:21And under the bonnet...
43:25There's no strap on that
43:26either.
43:27The battery's not secure.
43:29You've got a few issues
43:30going on here, haven't you?
43:33It's a bad chip, but it's a
43:35workhorse.
43:36Ah, it's a workhorse, which
43:38brings another problem.
43:40You're using it in your role
43:41as a handyman, so for that
43:42you need business insurance.
43:44Okay.
43:44Which you haven't got.
43:47I'm not going to seize it
43:48because you have got
43:48insurance.
43:50Right, so I'm not going to
43:50take it away.
43:51I'm going to let you
43:51continue your journey and
43:52hope that you get all
43:53these things fixed.
43:54Yeah, 100% today.
43:55However, I'm going to
43:56report you for the
43:57offences, okay?
43:58That's fine.
43:58I appreciate that.
43:59So, expect something in
44:01the post.
44:02Yeah.
44:02So, basically, the vehicle
44:03needs to come off the
44:05road, mate.
44:06That's what you're saying.
44:06Here's your words on it.
44:08I agree.
44:10The Astra driver stopped
44:11earlier was guilty of
44:12driving without insurance.
44:14He got six points and
44:15fines and charges.
44:17totalling £258.
44:21The owner who allowed
44:22him to drive received
44:23six points and fines
44:25of more than £800.
44:28The guy who was
44:29light on light was
44:31convicted of driving a
44:32car in a dangerous
44:33condition and without
44:34valid business insurance.
44:36He also received six
44:38points and fines
44:39totalling £280.
44:44put your seatbelt on.
44:45Put your seatbelt on.
45:11put your seatbelt on.
45:12Put your seatbelt on.
45:13Put your seatbelt on.
45:13Put your seatbelt on.
45:14What you can do to how
45:17what you feel would complain
