00:02This program is rated G and considered acceptable for all ages.
00:12Previously on Renovation Resort, we threw the teams a curveball, making them scour the resort
00:19for lockbox clues to gain access to their lake houses. First place! And we split them into teams
00:25for the first time ever. Wrong answer. And tasked them with giving the waterfront a total
00:30transformation. In a battle of creativity and teamwork, Team Land came out on top and won
00:36big. We're giving Team Land a trip to the luxurious Cerullo Mar Club, the Bahamas.
00:42Who does this happen to? Happens to you! This is about to be the most winning season ever
00:48of Renovation Resort. With more on the line than ever, the teams move inside their lake houses
00:54to prove they've got what it takes to win the next round. I'm just trying out ideas,
00:58Lynn. Absolutely not. If we can't do it right, we don't do it at all.
01:06The Ultimate Renovation Competition is back. We built four brand new lake houses from the ground
01:14up. Now, four powerhouse designer-contractor duos from across North America will take on
01:20the ultimate renovation competition. Their mission to turn these blank slates into amazing
01:26vacation destinations in just eight weeks. The team with the best lake house will be crowned
01:32Renovation Resort Champions. And take home $100,000.
01:39I'm Brian Baumler. And I'm Scott McGillivray. Let the lake house battle begin. This is Renovation Resort.
01:54Feels great that we're coming into this next challenge after a win, but we got some good
01:58competition here, so we've got to bring our A game for sure. Last week is in the past. This week,
02:03we're excited. Yeah. Welcome back, everybody. Congratulations on finishing your first challenge,
02:11teams. Amazing. So last week, we learned how you all work as a group. Now we're going to learn how
02:17you work in your individual teams. You'll be working on your very first interior space in your lake house,
02:25the primary bedroom and bathroom. So this is a big one. Guests aren't just coming here to sleep.
02:32They want to retreat. This space should pack comfort, style, and smart functionality.
02:37You've got just one week to complete both the primary bedroom and bathroom. We'll be judging
02:42you, as always, on your creativity, your use of space, and the quality of the work you deliver.
02:48Does everybody understand the assignment? Yes. Is everybody ready? Yes. Okay, primary bedroom
02:55and bathroom challenge starts now. Oh, my God. Sorry. I love it.
03:07All right. Okay. Primary bedroom. This space has to be super luxurious. Usually,
03:13it's the person who actually booked the lake house. They've spent the most money. So we want
03:17to make them feel like they got the best bedroom. I love what I do every day. I love interior
03:23design
03:23and most of the houses that I design for short-term rentals. This view is way too good to waste.
03:30Patio door? Absolutely what I was thinking. Let's open it up. Swap this window for a full-length
03:36sliding glass door. I'm thinking a neutral lime wash on the walls. Then we'll add a wood paneled feature
03:42wall that wraps up into a cladded ceiling and the king-size canopy bed and then primary bathroom.
03:49I want to draw in that same calm vibe from the bedroom, but add a total pop of personality. A
03:57blue
03:57tinted lime wash on the walls and I would love a feature tile moment in the shower using different
04:02shapes and sizes and a single vanity for storage. You think you're up for it? I'm up for it. Don't
04:08worry, I'm up for it. You seem nervous. Are you up for it? Let's get the scaffolding. Let's get this
04:12cladding going like right now. I definitely feel like we have a bit of a secret weapon with the
04:16short-term rentals of Tatiana. She's really skilled, takes care of them. She designs them all over
04:21North America. Well, I'm trying to keep it like under wraps as a secret weapon, but I'm actually just
04:29excited to share with Scott and see if I can surprise him on anything.
04:37I'm so excited. Yay! I love this room already. This is our first solo challenge and we're ready.
04:44Primary bedroom. I wanted to make an impact. So I really want to embody the East Coast relaxation.
04:50Let's do a statement wall with some neutral wallpaper. Then for maximum cottage vibes, I'm
04:56wanting to mirror the floor with wooden beams on the ceiling and maybe a beautiful romantic
05:00canopy bed. In the bathroom, let's use some neutral cream paneling on the walls and a checkered
05:06tile in the shower. Then I'm thinking a single vanity with brass hardware throughout to create some
05:11elegance. The primary bedroom is going to feel like a beautiful oasis the second you walk in. Let's
05:16start measuring. This is a big one right out of the gate. The primary, that's the most important
05:26room of the house. No pressure. I want to focus on like the beach feel, like where at the end
05:33of the
05:33day they come and relax and look at that water out there. Let's start with the neutral color palette.
05:40We'll clad the ceiling with wood and add white beams and then I'm envisioning a custom headboard.
05:45Ground the space with a large area rug, add a king bed and we'll accessorize with neutral sandy colors.
05:52What if I knock it up a notch? Okay. Let me do a wave feature wall. So bringing the waves
05:58from outside
05:59inside. I could do it with like MDF and backlit with LED padded headboard integrated in that way.
06:07I love it. Let me show what I can do. Ah, I'm ready. For the primary bathroom, I'm thinking floor
06:13to
06:13ceiling tile. High impact. Yes. And large scale pink and black marble tile to wrap the room into
06:19the shower. A large arch niche framed with pink mosaic tile and back with wood tones that will match
06:26our vanity and complete the luxe look. All right. I like it. Priority number one is the feature wall.
06:35Yes. I'm feeling a Bahamian breeze blowing right now.
06:44I love the natural daylight we have in here. I think it ties really nicely to our
06:49moonlight bay aesthetic. So I'm thinking color drenched the entire room with a dark gray and bump
06:56out the back wall to clad it with two tones of Japanese Tsuji band. And let's go with a king
07:01bed. And then,
07:02in the primary bathroom, I'd love to wrap the walls in a cloudy wallpaper. Let's go with a vertical
07:09black tile in the shower and a built-in niche. The pony wall is going to be a bumped out
07:14around
07:15four inches. It's going to go all the way through. Okay. Perfect. I feel like what's going to set our
07:19lake coast apart is my Japanese background. When I decided to take myself to Japan, I discovered a
07:28different way of living. It was a culture shock that polarized my idea of what life was supposed
07:35to be. And when I got home, I quit my job and signed up for some classes for interior design.
07:43It was the best decision I could have made for myself. I'm very excited to see what this looks
07:48like. Okay, let's go. Tsuji band is a Japanese term for a charred wood finish.
07:54Oh, it smells so good. It smells so good. It smells like a sauna. It's like a sauna and a
08:01campfire fused
08:02together. Butter.
08:10Now it's the individual competitions. So now we start to see the team. That's right. And what the teams can
08:16do
08:17on their own. The primary bedroom is the first place where we're going to get a flavor of what
08:22they're capable of. I'm still adjusting to not having my tools. And everything is taking so much
08:29longer than I anticipated. I actually thought we would be putting these straight on the wall.
08:34Not for the headboard. Do you know how narrow that walkway is going to be at the end of the
08:37bed?
08:38And then working with Shallan, like when we work together normally, she comes in at the end.
08:42There's got to be another way. Can we cut these in half? There we go. Me and Tatiana have a
08:49very
08:49similar work ethic, which I don't know, some people might call workaholics. Yeah.
08:57That good? Yep.
09:03Don't you love this checkerboard? I love it so much. I love these two colors together. I'm so excited to
09:07work
09:08with Marci. It's been a dream of mine probably since I was seven. We would always talk about
09:14wanting to work together, but never really making it come true. That's why this opportunity is amazing,
09:20because we have all this time to work together and see it from start to finish. Melissa, this looks
09:26great. I love it. Doesn't it? It looks incredible. Here's the pencil. Look at my pencil. Thanks.
09:36It's way too reminiscent to the hipboard. We're trying to figure out the exact curve, the dips of
09:42the waves. We're not really seeing eye to eye on the direction of what we want to really settle on.
09:48You literally just traced out the exact same thing I said I did not like. So that's...
09:52I actually was following your trace, but making it kiss right here instead of dipping under is what
09:58I was trying to do. I'm just trying out ideas, Liz. I think it needs to be more exaggerated.
10:05First of all, I am... I am having... I am overwhelmed at this moment, because we're going back and
10:14forth. We're wasting a lot of time. I have to say... We're not wasting a lot of time. We're trying
10:17to...
10:17I have to cut this. I have to sand this down. I have to stain this. This is our feature
10:22wall,
10:22so we need to get it right. And we can calm down and do that.
10:34This is our feature wall, so we need to both agree on making the right impact. We can come to
10:40a
10:40compromise. The tension is coming from maybe feeling like I'm criticizing instead of taking it as help.
10:47So which one is the one that you like the best? The larger, deeper ways. So how do we
10:52make it not mirror the headboard? The wave wall is taking way more time than I anticipated.
10:59It's something that I've done in the similar style before. All right.
11:06I like it.
11:10This corner is going to be tricky. Look, that's how far off I am.
11:17How noticeable is that? I don't think it is. I am a little bit of a perfectionist when it comes
11:22to my work, especially on our first challenge in the house. This is going to bother me a lot.
11:29It really does look beautiful when you take a step back and there's going to be so many other elements
11:33on this wall. I don't think this one panel being a tiny measurement off is going to be a big
11:39deal at
11:39the end of the day. Okay, if you say so.
11:51All of the competitors are taking on a lot in this space. It's great to be confident, but what I
11:57don't
11:57want to see is cutting corners. Looks so good. It actually looks so good. If you're taking on too much
12:03and you don't execute with excellence, you're not going to win this competition. There it is.
12:08Are we all in? We're all in. This is going to be a leg up in this challenge.
12:18I feel like we need to divide and conquer a little bit and see how the teams are going. I
12:22like that
12:22plan. Primary bedroom, primary bathroom. I'll take these two lake houses. You want to take those two
12:27lake houses? I primarily like the fact that we're going to separate. Yeah, I like that too. Okay,
12:32you go that way. I'll go this way. Okay. This way. These are your pendant lights, which come down
12:40about eight inches, drop down below. Knock, knock. Hi. Hi. How are you? How are things going? Going.
12:48Going. Hello. Hello. Well, well, well. Are these sisters getting blisters? What's happening? Yes,
12:55you are, actually. Yes. My hands are getting ruined. My hands are getting ruined. Is there a
13:00little bit of tension? She was a little nippy with me. Gotta let it out. I'm looking at your
13:07feature wall. Have we done a lot of wallpaper install? This is Melissa's first one. This is your
13:12first time? Yeah, so she did a great job for her first time. No. Lay out the vision for me.
13:18Everything
13:19you see here is a wave and they're going to be backlit. It's going to feel like you just stepped
13:24into the
13:24Caribbean and these waves lead out to that view. With the wallpaper at the top, I see the white.
13:31You need to go beyond in there. Cut. You're right. Your seams, you got to be close. Some of them
13:35are
13:35lining up. Some aren't lining up. Over here, you're off by a quarter inch and it starts to show with
13:41that
13:41floral pattern. Did you notice that right away? Yes. Shoot. I told you. I know. There's a lot of work.
13:48There's a lot of detail work. It is. It's got to be bang on. It's got to be perfect.
13:53I'm excited to see this, but I'm also a little terrified. Clearly, there's a lot of work to do.
13:58We're good? We're good. Yes. Okay. Thank you. Good luck. Thank you so much. Cooperate,
14:03try not to kill each other. Thank you. Thank you. All right. We'll talk to you soon. Thank you.
14:17How does that make any sense?
14:22We're short. Eight, nine, ten. We're shy two pieces.
14:27How is that even remotely possible? We're short two panels. We're screwed.
14:34Maybe I didn't order enough. I need to pivot in some way, shape, or form.
14:38Are you putting anything, a picture frame or something? I could pull back a few,
14:43have a cut somewhere. It'll be hidden behind a picture frame. I know it's not ideal, right? But
14:48we're going to have to pivot here. Okay. Okay. We're going to put a picture on top of the seam
14:53that we're creating because that's our only option at this point. One, two, three, and then we'll fill
14:59this with trailing plants and all of that. Okay. So the seam will be covered by the art.
15:03That's all right. Okay. Perfect. Being bold is all about not being afraid to fail. Good job!
15:12Sometimes you have to put it all on the table. You have to be comfortable with a loss. Lay that
15:16flat
15:16to the edge and then the excess will be in the back. Mm-hmm. In a competition like this,
15:21the people that aren't afraid to fail are the ones that will ultimately succeed.
15:27All right. We're going to need like 30 more of these. Really?
15:32Your friendly neighbor of the judge is here. Hello. I can see some progress. We finished
15:38cladding the ceiling and we still got some beams to throw up and we're just focusing on cladding
15:43this wall. I'm just noticing right behind you, that's not a window anymore. No, I changed it to
15:49a patio door. And now you're going to clad this wall? Yes, it'll come down as a waterfall. Wow.
15:55This is bold. West Coast style. Looking to tie the indoor-outdoor, but also make it feel
16:00and smell like you're in the trees. I smell like I'm in a tree. Coming down the walls is going
16:05to
16:05be a little more challenging. Yep. You feeling good about it? Always. We're just going on that right now.
16:10Oh, there's always stress. What is stressing you out the most right now? With the windows being on
16:15the angles, there's going to be a lot of cuts, so it's going to be very time consuming. But, you
16:19know,
16:19we're just trying to move forward here. These boards are cupping. You could put a block or a
16:25strap there to hold them down. We're short on time. We want to get going. This is the first impression
16:29you're
16:29going to make on people when they walk in here. All I can say is details, details, details.
16:33What do we got here? Oh, what have we got there? Wait, that's even more interesting.
16:46Oh, what have we got there? Is that why this is here? We ran out of boards. We ended up
16:51being
16:52two planks short. What are we doing here? So we went through different options and ultimately came to
16:58the decision that let's put in the middle and hide it with some art. So we'll do overlapping frames
17:04to bring the vision up and then we'll have some globe fixtures around here. Let's cut the bull
17:09for a sec. You're feeling rushed a little bit to make decisions and make changes. I don't like to make
17:15on the fly decisions. This is definitely outside of my comfort zone. In a challenge like this or in real
17:20world scenario, those decisions have to be made. The cuts have to be perfect the first time. You can try
17:26and
17:26take a shortcut. Yeah. And sometimes you run into traffic and you don't have time for traffic.
17:30I'm confident that we have a good handle on it and I think we'll have a win. I think we're
17:35always
17:35concerned about the amount of work that the teams have to do. There's a lot on the line and they're
17:40going to have to do whatever it takes to get these things finished in time and finish them really well.
17:49This span across and this span from there, the trusses are longer. It's not a lot but it's just going
17:55to get
17:55more and more. I don't think that'll look good. The feature wall due to the pitch in the ceiling doesn't
18:02work
18:02out mathematically. If we can't do it right then we don't do it at all. Maybe we could just do
18:07something else.
18:07The alternative is we'll just have to lime wash everywhere. I'm feeling pretty defeated. Maybe
18:13everything happens for a reason but it's a tough pill to swallow. Lime wash it is. It just can't be
18:20done right and perfectly. It could be a strike against us so we're moving forward. It still hurts.
18:26Wait, not that side. Okay, go over here. Good job.
18:34Should I take your job? Growing up I always knew that I wanted to be in construction and working
18:40in residential homes. I learned how to build a house from the ground up. I had really good mentors,
18:46teachers, and role models that have given me the confidence to be able to walk through the doors
18:50in a male-dominated industry and I'm loving it.
19:08What are you looking for in these primary bedrooms and bathrooms? Well, here's a rock.
19:12I want something that's going to make me feel as comfortable as I do at home but it's also going
19:17to
19:17be something a little bit different. Something that has a little bit of an unexpected twist to it.
19:22Throw a wrench in the plant. We should give them some bold colors to work with, like our bold green
19:27canoe.
19:28What is going on? There's a lot of water up here. Yeah, there's a lot of water back here.
19:33We're out pretty far. Just standing up in a canoe is not a good idea.
19:38It's the S.S. Gilbury.
19:39I saw that. Where's the? Oh, it's cold. Wait, we can make it. We can still make it back.
19:50What is wrong with you? That was the last time I take you canoeing. Oh.
19:57Well, hopefully the teams are having better luck than we are at canoeing.
20:04I'm so excited to finally get started. I just love choosing furniture and accessories, especially
20:11for this primary bedroom. We're definitely going to need a rug to ground the space. And I've kind
20:17of narrowed down to a few. That's cute. Yeah, I kind of like that since the bathroom is coral.
20:22These are traditional, not our style. Okay, this. I love that.
20:26Yes. It kind of looks like sand. With the waves. Yes. I love the beach. Okay, good.
20:33High durability. That is exactly what Scott and Brian will be looking for for their long-term rental.
20:38Okay. I like it. I love it.
20:52With these tight timelines, with this challenge, there's definitely a lot of stress going on right
20:56now. We're moving forward, but we got a lot of work to do. So there's a lot going on in
21:02our minds
21:02right now. Two beams down, two more to go. Are you proud of yourself, Liz? Of course I am.
21:07Can I get a little energy? Can I get a little fabulosity? Can I get a little dance? Hey, hey.
21:14Oh my gosh. I love it. Okay, teams. Please make your way down to the dock. They're calling us. Oh,
21:21really? Brian and I are just floating around waiting. We will never ever get anything done.
21:26Please make your way down to the dock. We gotta go. I don't have time for this. I don't want
21:29to do this.
21:30Welcome to the dock. Getting a little break from the action up there. So teams, we have a little surprise
21:36for you. We like to call this a design detour. That's right. We want to make sure that everybody
21:42is pushing themselves out of their comfort zones. I don't feel all that thrilled about a design detour
21:48because that means something in the design is going to have to change. What better way to shake things
21:53up than to add a little color to your design palette? So each team must incorporate one very bold color
22:01into their primary bedroom or bathroom. But of course, we couldn't just hand you a color. Where's
22:06the fun in that? There's no fun. So Brian and I made a shuffleboard of colors. So here's how it's
22:11going to work. One member of your team is going to slide a disc down the shuffleboard to the color
22:16that you would like. The color that you land in is the color that you will get to work into
22:21your design
22:21plan. And we will pass you the paint can to go with it. You can use this paint or find
22:27other creative
22:27ways to bring the color into the space. But if another team slides a disc after you and knocks your
22:34disc off of your color, wherever it lands next, that's your new color. We have chosen the random
22:40order in which you will play. First team up to our bold color challenge shuffleboard is Marci and Melissa.
22:47The color we absolutely do not want is the hot paint. This is stressful. Let's go for the tomato.
22:52It's at the end. And I know with a nautical design, we can incorporate some red.
23:02Is that what you were going for? You were going for tomato.
23:05Tomato. Come on back.
23:08Up next, we have Tatiana and Thomas. There is only one color on this board that could
23:15potentially work with what we have. Olive and it's in the middle. I want the olive color.
23:22That one's mine. You got this.
23:28And it lands on turquoise.
23:32I have no idea how we're going to add this to our space. I feel like this is something Shallan
23:38should have. Up next, Taylor and Murdad. Oh, you don't look happy. You got this.
23:51You're into olive. Is that where we wanted to be? Yeah. Okay. Shallan and Liz, step on up.
24:01I see coral on that board and that's what I'm going for. Okay, make it work.
24:09Oh!
24:21Dang! Oh!
24:24Wait a minute.
24:27It's not coming. It's okay. That could be one of the worst possible colors that we could get.
24:33Taylor, there's a saying, you know, when life hands you lemons.
24:37Oh, okie dokie, you got a new color.
24:41Let's just remember, there's a lot of crumbs that we should have.
24:44Not feeling too good right now.
24:45She did it on purpose. I think.
24:49Wow! I did not see that coming at all.
24:52What happened?
24:53I don't know. It went crooked.
24:55I'm really happy I don't have yellow, but I'm still not thrilled about olive green. It's not my jam.
25:00You ready to get back to work?
25:01Yes, do it.
25:02And remember, bold decisions are what win this competition. So let's see who turns this color
25:08twist into design magic. All right, head back to your lake houses.
25:17The chips have landed and now it is everybody's job, whether they like the color they got or not,
25:24to incorporate it into their design and we'll be keeping a keen eye on this.
25:28It's not the color you wanted, but you can make that work. I got faith in you.
25:32I gotta do some thinking.
25:35What are we gonna do with that?
25:36I just really wanted coral. It would have been perfect.
25:40We use a bit of this color in a nautical setting artwork because it suits the blue tones really
25:46nicely that we have in the bedding. Scott said go bold, so obviously this has to make an impact.
25:51Yep.
25:52What if we sprinkled in the yellow in the form of decorative elements for the primary bedroom?
25:58A little touch of color throughout.
25:59Mm-hmm.
25:59Okay.
26:00I was thinking painting here. The idea is this is the ocean and over here is the sand and this
26:06palm leaf. If I can just do one bold thing and really nail that, then the rest of the detail
26:13will kind of come in afterwards. For sure. Okay.
26:16Here it goes. Moment of truth.
26:19With this design detour, we have so much added pressure now. I'm feeling like we are under the clock.
26:24When we have a chance to walk through the completed spaces, we're definitely going to be looking for
26:29the bold color. How they incorporated that, how they changed their initial design, because this is
26:34a big part of that bedroom challenge. So we want to see color. I'm not mad at the yellow color.
26:40No, I think it's really going to pop. This looks good.
26:43Really? Yeah.
26:47Oh my God. What's wrong? The curtains are too long?
26:49I got the wrong measurement. Can we put it onto the trim?
26:52No. We can't have it on the ground either.
26:55When you go to a hotel, it's always above the toilet.
26:57Absolutely not. That is like a two-inch shelf.
27:01I know Taylor wants to ensure that the design looks good. I'm just stressed out,
27:05because we're really running low on time. It looks amazing.
27:10Very excited about this. It's happening.
27:13Yeah. It's crooked. It's going to be beautiful at the end of the day, but we still have a lot
27:18to get
27:19done. Freaking out, man. And I might need a paper bag soon to breathe it.
27:23Teams, you have one hour left.
27:29I'm feeling anxious. There's not enough time. There is so much to address.
27:3440 minutes? 30 minutes left? I don't know anymore.
27:37There we go.
27:39This is your 10-minute warning. 10-minute warning. And then everybody down to the fire pit.
27:43Wait, for real?
27:44Take it. We got to go. We got to go.
27:46You're saying that has to be there.
27:47This is perfect.
27:48Doesn't this have to be symmetrical with that one?
27:49No.
27:50Whatever you want.
27:59Okay, you fighters. Down to the fire pit in 10,
28:049, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Tools down. Meet Brian and I at the fire pit.
28:16We're gonna kick some ass.
28:21I'm feeling a little scared. Did we do enough? I have no idea.
28:25This is the first solo challenge. Whoever wins it really sets a high standard.
28:30I'm feeling good about this finish room. Yeah.
28:34I'm really, really proud of what we were able to put forward given the circumstances. I think we smashed it.
28:40Congratulations on completing your second renovation resort challenge.
28:47How are we feeling?
28:48Great.
28:48Great.
28:49Yeah.
28:50So this week, we brought in two people who know how to turn everyday spaces into standout retreats.
28:56She's a design force, a renovation real estate expert, and she's never afraid to take bold risks.
29:02He is a charismatic carpenter with an eye for design. Together, they're the hosts of Life is Messy.
29:09Please welcome Courtney Wilson and Kenny Brain.
29:13Hey!
29:14Woo-hoo!
29:15Woo-hoo!
29:16Hey, guys.
29:17Hello.
29:18Welcome to Renovation Resort.
29:20Meet our competitors.
29:21Hey!
29:22Hey!
29:23Now, together, we are all going to be judging the primary bedrooms and bathrooms.
29:28Courtney, what are you gonna be looking for?
29:30I'm gonna be looking for bold, personal spaces that feel like a true escape.
29:36Environments layered with character, unexpected details, and maybe, you know, like a little pinch of drama.
29:40And Kenny, I want to see craftsmanship. I want to see comfort to make the space livable,
29:45but I want to see how you guys make style and function work together.
29:49But of course, on top of that, we are going to be looking at how you incorporated that bold color.
29:54You ready to do this?
29:55Let's go.
29:56Let's do it.
29:57We'll be back.
29:58Nobody panic.
29:59Nobody panic.
30:01So, primary bedrooms and bathrooms.
30:04Okay.
30:04Starting with Taylor and Mare Dad's property, Moonlight Bay.
30:08It's very Japanese-influenced.
30:13Oh, my gosh.
30:15Whoa!
30:15This is beautiful.
30:17This is really pretty.
30:19This feels Tofino meets Japanese-inspired.
30:22You've got the Shosugi-ban accessories.
30:25Even the wardrobe has a little bit of that vibe to it.
30:29I obviously love the backdrop to the room.
30:32That Shosugi-ban, I think, really pops and sets the theme.
30:35Now, one thing you should know about the art.
30:36The piece on the right is hiding a couple of boards that were mismeasured.
30:40So, is that cheating or is that genius?
30:42Strategic.
30:42Now, I know there was a challenge.
30:45So, the color for this room was what exactly?
30:47Lemon.
30:47Lemon.
30:48I see some shades of yellow, but I don't see any lemon in here.
30:51Behind you, is that right there?
30:53Oh, my gosh.
30:53There's a literal lemon.
30:55Cute.
30:56But not the assignment.
30:59Okay.
31:00Oh.
31:00Love the wallpaper.
31:01The wallpaper is a really nice touch.
31:03The floating vanity actually adds more space when you're walking around.
31:07They brought the tile all the way to the ceiling.
31:09It's a really nice touch.
31:10It draws your eye up in a smaller space.
31:12What feels wrong in here is the floor.
31:15It's like a parquet porcelain.
31:18Not just the tiles, but the grout color is just wrong for vacation.
31:22The floor was a bit of a miss.
31:24But if this is an indicator of what we're going to see in the other houses.
31:27This is gorgeous.
31:28I would rent this room.
31:29Taylor and Meredad spent only $22,000 on their moody primary suite.
31:34The lowest of any team by a long shot.
31:37It's a bold play, but is it money well saved?
31:39Or will it be the case of too little too late?
31:43This is Marcy and Melissa, sisters from Niagara Falls.
31:47Okay.
31:48Cool.
31:48And Driftwood Dunes is their theme.
31:51Oh, wow.
31:52Oh my gosh.
31:53This is totally different.
31:54It's got a very airy, light vibe.
31:58Okay.
31:58Is red the color?
31:59Yes.
32:00The red barn and the red heart is super cute.
32:02Yes.
32:02But it's very subtle.
32:04In terms of install, it looks pretty clean.
32:07I mean, they put the pieces of trim up at the ceiling here.
32:09So even if maybe there were some mishaps with the wallpaper.
32:13There were.
32:14So I came in and I was checking on them and their pattern was slightly sinking.
32:18I like that they fixed the top of it with the trim, but this piece is still not aligned.
32:25So they fixed some of it, but I like that there's some storage.
32:28We've got the wardrobe, which is nice.
32:30Oh, wait a second.
32:32What in the world?
32:34This is such a 10.
32:35This is somebody who really knows how to incorporate color.
32:39And up until now, we really haven't seen bold, but this is bold and it works.
32:45Oh.
32:46Oh, my gosh.
32:47Okay.
32:47Oh, wow.
32:48Wow.
32:48It's got impact, that tile.
32:50Very cool.
32:51I do like the checkerboard pattern on the wall, the soft blue.
32:54The wood on the walls is great, but you need a niche.
32:57You need somewhere to put your stuff so you're not just laying it on the ground.
33:01These sisters really brought it.
33:02I love it, but is it enough of a risk?
33:05When you go on vacation, do you want to escape?
33:07Is this something you would have at home?
33:09I'm feeling the same way.
33:10Is it a space that you're going to remember afterwards?
33:12Yo, McGillivary, open up the closet over there.
33:15I know, I know.
33:16You're going to remember it, okay?
33:17Okay.
33:18Marcy and Melissa made some smart strategic choices that kept their spend locked at a solid $28,000.
33:25But are their high impact decisions bold enough to rise above the competition?
33:31All right, what do we got next?
33:32Let's go into Shallan and Liz's Coral Cove.
33:35Yes, this is a Caribbean vibe.
33:37Okay.
33:39Whoa.
33:39Oh.
33:40Shallan and Liz, wow.
33:48Okay.
33:49Whoa.
33:49Oh.
33:49Shallan and Liz, wow.
33:52This came together very different than I expected.
33:55Shallan and Liz have said they are all about color.
33:58Not in this room.
33:59I do love an abstract piece of artwork, like their headboard and then this layered feature.
34:06All different textures, although the edges are rough.
34:10And with it being backlit, it's just highlighting everywhere they started, stopped and went off with a jigsaw.
34:15I warned them both.
34:16I said, this has to be laser precise, very difficult to do.
34:20If I walked in here, I would feel like I was on vacation.
34:23Looking at this wall, I like that there's a moment happening with the chair, the lamp, the desk.
34:28I'm confused.
34:29What is the bold color for this room?
34:31Olive.
34:31The glassware or the painting here.
34:35Painting's really pretty.
34:36Love the ceiling application with the light wood.
34:39I think it's giving Scandinavian vibes, which if I'm not mistaken, it's a little bit north than Caribbean.
34:46Yes.
34:47Yes.
34:47But still really nice.
34:51Oh.
34:52Oh, oh.
34:52There's the coral.
34:54There's some coral.
34:55Ah, wow.
34:57Jellyfish.
34:58Where's the jellyfish?
34:58Look at this.
34:59Oh, my gosh.
35:00That's kind of cool.
35:02Okay, so now this is, I'm feeling their vibe a little bit more in here in relation to their coral
35:08theme.
35:08This arch in the shower is an absolute home run.
35:12And then the fact that they carried the penny in the archway to the backsplash here.
35:17Install-wise, they did a really, really good job.
35:20I think Shallan and Liz nailed it with their bathroom.
35:23Balancing their luxe bathroom with a custom-crafted bedroom, Shallan and Liz kept their spend to a
35:28conservative $26,000, a measured approach that could set them up for a major push down the line.
35:36This is Tatiana and Thomas.
35:38And Cedar Shore is their theme.
35:40It's a West Coast vibe.
35:42Oh, my.
35:43Oh, my gosh.
35:45Ooh.
35:45Okay.
35:46Oh, look at this.
35:47There's a dresser in this one.
35:48It's a lime wash.
35:49I'm feeling the West Coast vibe.
35:51Wow.
35:51This is beautiful.
35:52All four of them, so different.
35:54The theme is Cedar Shore, so they're trying to bring the outside in.
35:57The biggest change that hasn't happened in any other lake house is they swapped their window
36:03out for a door.
36:04This is a walkout primary bedroom onto the new deck.
36:08That's a big game changer.
36:09Okay.
36:10Is this the color?
36:11Oh, turquoise.
36:13I can see that it's repeating in the bookmark behind you.
36:16Hangers are over there.
36:17That's a nice, great little pop.
36:20Love.
36:20Love the ceiling.
36:21They were going to take this ceiling cladding down this wall.
36:26I guess they've abandoned that idea, which thank goodness they did.
36:31Oh.
36:32Oh.
36:32Oh.
36:33Oh.
36:34Oh, my gosh.
36:35Tatiana has got all the things that you need in the short-term rental space.
36:40This suspended shampoo and conditioner and body wash.
36:42Nailed it, nailed it, nailed it.
36:43He nailed all of that stuff.
36:45I do really like the blue in the shower because it kind of ties in with the bed.
36:49I don't know that I love doing the lime wash in both rooms in different colors.
36:55I actually love the floor.
36:57It's just not in this room.
36:59I don't think it adds to their overall degree.
37:01It feels a little traditional.
37:02Yeah.
37:02I feel like we've left the west coast.
37:04Yes.
37:05Agreed.
37:05Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
37:07Tatiana and Thomas went all out for their first challenge,
37:11putting over $30,000 of their budget on the line.
37:14It's a power move, but will it pay off?
37:18We have four very different properties, incredible craftsmanship.
37:24It's going to be hard to find reasons why everyone shouldn't win.
37:28This is going to be tough.
37:29Oh, man.
37:30I don't like this part.
37:31I'm just going to...
37:32This is the worst part.
37:33I don't like this part at all.
37:33It's actually the best part.
37:44Wow, I'm impressed.
37:45I feel like you all are taking my job.
37:48This was tough.
37:50This challenge for the primary bedroom bathroom,
37:52it's the first completed spaces we've gotten to see.
37:55Now seeing the final result, the truth is very impressive.
38:00Great work, team.
38:01Seriously.
38:02Incredible.
38:02I was blown away by your primary bed and bathroom designs, all of y'all.
38:07Taylor and Meredith, the feature wall along with the cabinet and wardrobe, the small details with
38:13some of the books.
38:14I can tell you put a lot of passion and energy in there.
38:17It shows.
38:19I didn't feel like you integrated the color challenge in a bold way.
38:23I did feel like it was kind of stuck in a little later.
38:26You took the time to trim out the top of that sugi bin.
38:28The installation looked a thousand times better.
38:31If I was going online to book a vacation rental, this would be the one that I would book.
38:35The colors, the textures, the vibe.
38:37Perfection.
38:38He's staying there tonight.
38:39I love that.
38:39Yeah, moving in.
38:40I thought the bathroom was beautiful.
38:42Tile work was amazing.
38:43The bathroom tile on the floor.
38:46I think it was a little distracting to me.
38:49Grout choice was also the wrong one, just because it's white and in a vacation rental,
38:53it can discolor a little bit.
38:55Otherwise, really good job.
38:56Amazing.
38:57Great work.
38:58I kind of want to cry.
39:00Shallan and Liz, I immediately noticed all the layers that you've done.
39:05It's an abstract design.
39:07The lighting sets the mood.
39:09I can feel the textures of the rattan and everything else you're pulling into the space.
39:13If I were looking at pictures of this online, I would for sure want to stay here.
39:18It felt like a vacation rental.
39:20The cuts on the wave, if you had taken a belt sander and just gone over that
39:24and smoothed it out and really detailed it, don't forget what it takes.
39:28Did one of you paint that painting?
39:30The palm frond?
39:31The palm frond.
39:31Your lawyer is an artist.
39:35The bathroom screamed luxury.
39:38It had really strong elements.
39:40The arch in the shower, chef's kiss, gorgeous.
39:44Coral tile and the coral accents, absolutely gorgeous.
39:48Your bathroom could be in the presidential suite at the Rosewood.
39:51That's exactly what we said.
39:54Congratulations.
39:57Marcy and Melissa, the layout of your room turned out spectacular.
40:01The bed positioning, the nightstands, it is a true getaway in there.
40:05It feels calm.
40:06It feels relaxing.
40:07It all works together really, really well.
40:10The way that you integrated the bold color challenge, the pop of red.
40:14When I opened the armoire, I nearly fell onto the bed.
40:18I was like, this is so freaking good.
40:22I was very happy to see that you trimmed out the top of the wallpaper.
40:26Wasn't happy that you said you were going to replace the last piece of wallpaper, but you didn't.
40:30No more wallpaper.
40:32So you're going to have to live with your mistake.
40:35The bathroom, boy, did that tie in nicely.
40:38The blue and white tile work was just spectacular.
40:41The wood detail on the wall that went up so high, it made the bathroom feel bigger.
40:45One thing it missed was the shower needed a niche because everybody has toiletries when they're
40:51vacationing and next time definitely needs a niche.
40:54Incredible job.
41:15Beautiful feel.
41:16But putting the dresser in is everything felt a teeny tiny bit closed in for me.
41:21But on the other side, y'all spent the money on the sliding door.
41:25Craftsmanship was incredible.
41:27Install of everything was top notch.
41:28For me, it was the ceiling.
41:29It screams West Coast.
41:31I absolutely adored it.
41:32For the bathroom, your experience in the short-term rental space really shows.
41:36Man, that blue tile, absolutely gorgeous.
41:39But I felt the blue line wash was a little too much.
41:42That was a little too much.
41:43The floor tile wouldn't have been my first choice.
41:46I do see how you were trying to bring in a lot of different elements.
41:50You aren't holding back.
41:52Well, maybe I should a little now.
41:55I went bold in the bathroom.
41:56I know that.
41:58This season, based on the craftsmanship and the skill and the design,
42:04is probably going to be the most difficult season ever for us to choose a winner.
42:10Everybody presented incredibly impressive work.
42:14The winner of this week's challenge, courtesy of our friends at Wayfair to help you turn your design
42:21dreams into reality, will be receiving a whopping cash prize of $10,000.
42:31Oh my God.
42:34But unfortunately, only one team can win.
42:38The winners of Renovation Resort's primary bedroom and bathroom challenge are...
42:46Marceline and Melissa.
42:47What?
42:48Good job, you guys.
42:51What?
42:52Wait, what?
42:55What?
43:01I can't believe it.
43:05I love the room so much, so I'm so proud, but I wasn't, everyone sounds so amazing.
43:10I was like, there's no way that we won.
43:12Wow.
43:13Thank you so much.
43:14You should be very proud of yourselves.
43:16And remember, for those of you who didn't win this week, this competition is just getting started.
43:24And someone's going to be winning $100,000.
43:30Well, now it's time for you to rest up, because your next challenge starts bright and early tomorrow.
43:36Can I get a selfie with all of them?
43:37Because they're all going to be superstars.
43:39Just, let's go, congratulations.
43:49Coming up on Renovation Resort.
43:51Don't let that wind mess up your hair.
43:53The teams take on one of the most demanding spaces.
43:56Kitchen day.
43:57What the...
43:57But a mid-build curveball shakes up even the strongest plans.
44:01I gotta build something else now.
44:02And they learn every choice counts.
44:05Aggression, aggression.
44:06Frustrations boil over, and the teams...
44:10Hit their breaking point.
44:11Oh my God, I'm so stressed out.
44:13I see issues already.
