00:01A lorry driver pleaded not guilty at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Monday to a charge of
00:07attempting to murder a man during a shooting incident outside an entertainment centre in
00:12Bangsar last month. 27-year-old A Lekaswaran was accused of attempting to kill 41-year-old
00:19scrap metal business owner B Yoga Sundram in front of an entertainment outlet along Jalan
00:24Telawi, Bangsar, at around 3.15am on April 22. The charge was framed under Section 307 of the Penal Code,
00:34which carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years and a fine upon conviction. If the act caused
00:40injury, the accused could face up to 20 years in prison. During proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor
00:46Jay Banusha objected to bail, citing the seriousness of the offence and revealing that the victim
00:52remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit of University Malaya Medical Centre.
00:59The prosecution also argued that granting bail could allow the accused to flee and potentially
01:04interfere with the victim and prosecution witnesses. The court was also informed that the accused is
01:11expected to face firearms-related charges at the Klang Court. Counsel Mohamed Iz Khan, Mohamed Noor Khan,
01:18representing the accused, appealed for bail and said his client was willing to comply with any
01:24additional conditions imposed by the court. However, Judge Mazuliana Abdul Rashid denied bail and fixed
01:32lawsuit at June 10 for mention of the case.
