The 19-year-old driver involved in a fatal five-vehicle crash in Simpang Renggam, Johor, has been remanded for a further four days after police escalated investigations to a murder charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

The suspect, who was previously held under the Road Transport Act, appeared at the Kluang Sessions Court on Friday (June 5) morning under tight police escort.

00:14A four-day remand order was issued by Judge Mujib Saroji, keeping him in custody until Monday.
00:20The suspect had previously been remanded under the Road Transport Act,
00:23but police re-arrested him to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code,
00:29which carries the death penalty upon conviction.
00:32The fatal crash occurred last Monday at Kilometre 27 of Jalan Rengam Simpang Rengam.
00:37The teenager was driving a Mercedes-Benz A250,
00:40allegedly racing recklessly alongside his older brother in a BMW 530E.
00:46The BMW is believed to have lost control before veering into oncoming traffic,
00:51triggering a chain collision involving a Perodua Alza, a Toyota Vios, a Proton Weirer, and another Mercedes-Benz.
00:59Four members of a family travelling in the Vios were killed at the scene, including a 10-year-old girl.
01:05The teen's 22-year-old brother, who was driving the BMW,
01:09succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital, bringing the death toll to five.
