A 28-year-old man has been charged in the Magistrate’s Court in Klang with the murder of a motorcyclist following a fatal crash last Sunday (March 29).

Saktygaanapathy Ravichandran was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for causing the death of motorcyclist, Amirul Hafiz Omar, aged 33.

00:07Saktiganapathy, Ravichandran, who was still wearing the same white t-shirt from the day of the incident on March 29th,
00:13is alleged to have driven against the flow of traffic on Jalan Raya Bharat
00:17before ramming into a motorcycle ridden by 33-year-old Amirul Hafiz Omar.
00:22The victim was sent somersaulting multiple times through the air before landing on the roof of a passing car.
00:27He was pronounced dead at the scene.
00:30Amirul Hafiz leaves behind a wife and three young children.
00:34His widow was present in court as the charges were read.
00:40Saktiganapathy was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code that carries either the mandatory death penalty
00:46or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.
00:52The accused nodded to indicate he understood the charges.
00:55No plea was recorded, as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
01:03Separately, Saktiganapathy was also charged under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952
01:07for allegedly consuming benzodiazepines and THC.
01:11He pleaded guilty to the drug charge, which carries a fine of up to 5,000 ringgit
01:16or up to 2 years in prison.
