00:00Tale as old as time, Joe.
00:02You know, I was never a professional athlete,
00:03so my contract wasn't, you know, about 175 pages long
00:07with things I can and things I cannot do.
00:10And the reason I bring that up is
00:12you're dealing with millions of dollars.
00:14So if a team goes, hey, I know you like to skydive.
00:17We're paying you $130 million on this contract.
00:20You can't skydive.
00:22Or, hey, Jeff Kent for the San Francisco Giants,
00:25we know you love motorcycles and dirt bikes.
00:28You can't go out there and ride your dirt bike
00:30and risk injury.
00:31The reason I bring up Jeff Kent is
00:33he got injured and broke his wrist.
00:35He showed up at the facility and goes,
00:37Joe, I was just out there washing my truck, man.
00:40Fell off it and broke my wrist.
00:42Oh, really?
00:42Two or three days later,
00:44he was riding his dirt bike and broke his wrist.
00:46Therefore, conflict of interest.
00:48So the story I'm bringing up now is with the Chicago Cubs.
00:51Matthew Boyd's gonna undergo surgery
00:53after suffering a meniscus injury.
00:55What happened?
00:56Did he feel the ground ball during the game?
00:57Was he running off the field
00:59and, you know, fell down the dugout steps?
01:01No.
01:02He was playing with his kids, Joe.
01:04Now, how can we refute that?
01:05I don't know.
01:07But that sounds interesting to me.
01:09Was he hooping?
01:09Because even how crazy it sounds, Joe,
01:11a lot of these athletes,
01:12they're not even supposed to be able to play,
01:13like, pick up hoops
01:14because if they get injured,
01:15that's contract detrimental to the team
01:17because they can't perform
01:18for doing a non-baseball injury.
01:20Are we believing the story?
01:22Like, yeah, I was playing with my kids
01:24and wrecked my knee.
01:26Yeah.
01:27We've had this.
01:28It feels like every couple of years,
01:31Donnie, we get what it is.
01:32Madison Bumgarten
01:33might have been the hilarious one of them all
01:35because he, like, lived in the sticks and ore.
01:38He didn't care.
01:39Like, he was out there shooting.
01:41He was riding a four-wheeler.
01:43He didn't.
01:43It didn't matter.
01:44He ends up getting hurt.
01:45He's like, yeah, what's the big deal?
01:47But we also saw Chris Sale a couple of years ago
01:50when he was with the Red Sox.
01:52Mysteriously, he has a terrible game,
01:54and then the next day we hear about,
01:55oh, he's got shoulder.
01:57There's something wrong with his shoulder.
01:59Well, he ended up punching a wall
02:00that nobody knew about there,
02:02and it's the same thing.
02:03I mean, guys understand
02:04those are written into the contract for a reason,
02:08and if something goes, you know,
02:10hey, listen, you're a big boy.
02:12You want to take the risk?
02:13Enjoy.
02:14But if you get caught,
02:15yeah, that's going to be
02:16a very expensive lesson, Donnie.
