00:00A transport consultant has voiced concern over recent developments in the proposed feeder service
00:06for the Johor Rapid Transit system following reports that the scheme now being considered
00:12may differ significantly from what was previously announced.
00:15Rossi Khan said Pujra Jaya must provide an explanation following reports that the project
00:21will adopt an automated people mover system similar to Singapore's Rukit Panjang and Punggol
00:27LRT lines to deliver last-mile connectivity for RTS commuters. Rossi told FMT the project,
00:35as reported, differs substantially from the plan publicly outlined by Transport Minister
00:40Lok Su-fuk in February last year. He said Lok had expressed a preference for the elevated
00:47autonomous rapid transit system, describing it as a flexible and cost-effective solution
00:53that does not require dedicated tracks, allowing lane-sharing with buses.
00:58However, Rossi said the project, now under discussion, appears to involve a driverless
01:04elevated system with 32 stations spanning the Skudai, Tebrau and Iskandar Putri corridors,
01:10ultimately feeding into the Bukit Chaga RTS link.
01:14He said any move towards an APM-like system would need a clear technical explanation,
01:20given the reliability issues seen in comparable systems such as KLIA's AeroTrain and Singapore's
01:27Bukit Panjang LRT. He said such systems generally served more limited areas, with lower ridership,
01:35adding that an APM system may not be suitable for a city region with a population based as large as
01:41the one in Johor Bahru. I'm Nganjaria, FMT.
