00:00Malaysia is planning to adopt a new foreign worker recruitment system developed by Bestnet Sandrian Berhard,
00:07the company founded by labor tycoon Amunul Islam, according to six people familiar with the matter.
00:14The sources say that the software is marketed as allowing companies to hire workers directly
00:20rather than using middlemen who charge them excessive fees, Bloomberg reported,
00:25called the Universal Recruitment Advanced Platform, or TURUP.
00:30The system will have a digital portal where employers can sign up and find employees, they said.
00:36Human Resources Minister Ramanan mentioned the new system in an interview with the Star in early February
00:42but did not say Bestnet would be operating it.
00:45Ramanan has said Malaysia hopes to adopt the new system by the middle of this year.
00:50While sources say the process is still at an early stage and needs agreement from the Home Ministry
00:57before being approved by the Cabinet.
00:59Under Amunul's proposal, Bestnet would receive a 12-year contract
01:03allowing it to charge companies US$1,000 per foreign worker application
01:09plus a per-worker fee of one month's salary, they said.
