00:00A transport consultant has voiced concern over recent developments in the proposed feeder service for the Johor Rapid Transit System,
00:09following reports that the scheme now being considered may differ significantly from what was previously announced.
00:16Rosli Khan said Putrajaya must provide an explanation following reports that the project will adopt an automated people mover system,
00:24similar to Singapore's Bukit Panjang and Punggol LRT lines, to deliver last-mile connectivity for RTS commuters.
00:33Rosli told FMT the project, as reported, differs substantially from the plan publicly outlined by Transport Minister Lok Siu Phuq
00:41in February last year.
00:44He said Lok had expressed a preference for the elevated autonomous rapid transit system,
00:49describing it as a flexible and cost-effective solution that does not require dedicated tracks, allowing lane-sharing with buses.
00:59However, Rosli said the project, now under discussion, appears to involve a driverless elevated system
01:06with 32 stations spanning the Skudai, Tabrao, and Iskandapuji corridors, ultimately feeding into the Bukit Chagar RTS link.
01:14He said any move towards an APM-like system would need a clear technical explanation,
01:19given the reliability issues seen in comparable systems such as KLIS AeroTrain and Singapore's Bukit Panjang LRT.
01:27He said such systems generally served more limited areas with lower ridership,
01:33adding that an APM system may not be suitable for a city region with a population base as large as
01:39the one in Johor Bahru.
01:41And I'm Tharaja, FMT.
