00:00But if he does, we don't know it.
00:03We're not going to know it.
00:04You're not going to reach out to him?
00:05See if he wants to come on and preview.
00:06I don't want to reach out to anybody.
00:08Today we've had more guests.
00:11Yesterday, today, all week.
00:12And now it's like, all right.
00:15Game time.
00:16Yes.
00:17Fans and the game and what's going to happen.
00:21And then tomorrow we'll be here and we'll talk about what happened.
00:24Just us.
00:26Here's Chris with us.
00:27Hi, Chris.
00:33New plan.
00:34Lots of guests tomorrow.
00:36You want to call Al now?
00:37All the guests.
00:38New plan.
00:41I wonder how, you know, we both, I think we were in a similar headspace a couple hours ago when
00:47we started today.
00:49You asked me how I'm feeling.
00:51And I don't know if I'm letting anyone down by not having the usual game day nerves.
00:57I expect it'll come back once the series gets going.
01:01But I just feel like I cannot wait for the game.
01:05And that's always the case.
01:06But usually it's, I have trouble keeping my thoughts straight.
01:10I'm really on edge.
01:12I might jump down your throat or someone else just because I'm very edgy.
01:16And I don't feel that right now at all.
01:19I just, I'm just so absolutely overjoyed.
01:26Not only that they made it, but that they took the Bruins out and there was nothing about it that
01:32was like bouncy or fluky.
01:34They just professionally took them out like a good team should in the playoffs.
01:40That doesn't guarantee you anything against Montreal.
01:43I mean, it's a harder test.
01:45And even as good as Buffalo was, you know, who knows?
01:50You know, one thing here or there goes different and you just never know in the playoffs.
01:54So there's no guarantees that you're going to keep winning these series, but it just feels so good to be
02:02there.
02:04Like the only thing that's bumming me out right now is the fact that it feels like it's maybe November
02:08out instead of May.
02:10Because, you know, I've been romanticizing for 15 years about these days, right?
02:15We're going to get back to the playoffs and you're going to be outside in flip-flops and, you know,
02:21getting off the train and like going to tailgate or whatever you're going to be doing.
02:24You're going to be doing it outside and it's going to be light out until 830 and all that.
02:28And so we got like cloudy, cloudy, gray and, you know, rainy.
02:33It's a little disappointing.
02:35It's warmer in Montreal right now.
02:37Hopefully they don't do a thing about that.
02:38Right.
02:39Remember the Bills would play Miami?
02:41Show the thermometers.
02:42In the playoffs and, oh, Miami is 84 and Buffalo it's 4.
02:46Right.
02:47Yeah, we don't need that.
02:47Not a big difference.
02:48Nobody needs that.
02:49But anyway, that's not a big deal.
02:50I just – my vibe check is, man, it is just great to be here is really how I feel.
02:57And I know that can be dangerous if the team is sort of, you know, like house money for us
03:04now.
03:04I doubt at all.
03:05There's no reason to worry about that.
03:07Right.
03:07There's no reason to worry about that.
03:08And I feel perfectly comfortable.
03:11And that's rare for me.
03:13You know, yes.
03:15I largely, if not entirely, agree.
03:18I feel the same way.
03:20We've talked about pressure a lot.
03:22We're always talking about pressure.
03:25And, you know, I tend to push back against, like, any kind of point about how much pressure players would
03:32feel.
03:32Because I just – I think we tend to think about players like they're us.
03:37With no control over it and really doing no preparation and just being like, oh, my God, this is going
03:44to be different.
03:45Because I just don't think that that's how those guys operate.
03:48I think there's another way of looking at that, too, that is positive.
03:54That – listen to Dahlien talk about this.
03:57Over and over, he's talked about this.
03:59It's the opportunity that pressure means that sort of goes with it.
04:06But it's not just like, oh, well, we've never gotten through this round or we've never beaten this team
04:11or we've never won a series in this many years, all those things.
04:14I don't know.
04:15I just – there's nerves and pressure.
04:20But I think pro athletes tend to make that into a positive.
04:25Like, fear is an important and necessary trait.
04:29You want that.
04:29Or else you would just jump off bridges because you're not afraid.
04:32Like, I just do stupid things all the time.
04:34I mean, there are people who do more stupid things than other people.
04:37But you need that fear.
04:39You need that element of whether fear is exactly in line with this.
04:45And I just – I trust this team so much.
04:50Really, like I said yesterday or the day before, what's left to pick at with them?
04:58So, in round one, well, they've never been there.
05:01Well, goaltending.
05:03The power play.
05:04I mean, the power play didn't get better.
05:06Really.
05:06I mean, goals-wise.
05:09There were these areas, and some intangible, where we might have been, you know, nervous.
05:16And they got through round one.
05:18They didn't suffer for not having been to the playoffs before.
05:21Far from it.
05:22They won game one.
05:24They won three road games in the series.
05:26Three for three.
05:27So, you know, check.
05:30Goaltending was tremendous in the end.
05:31Lyon gets the call and five goals in four games, right, Lyon?
05:35So, check.
05:37And you played it – if it's not the first point, again, you played a team that just has a
05:42lot better history, a lot – even against Buffalo.
05:46And, like I said all the time about the matchup with the Bruins, why would anybody in that Sabres locker
05:51room care about Terry O'Reilly or Ray Bork?
05:54Like, they just wouldn't even care.
05:56They might not even know who they are.
05:57Like, just, you know, they know – I think they know they're good.
06:02Yeah.
06:02I like this a lot because I think it does – it lends itself to the – what I'm describing
06:09my own feelings as today.
06:13I think it's definitely a key part of why I don't have the usual game day anxiety.
06:20I guess I trust them.
06:24Like – and that doesn't mean I know they're going to win or something because who could know such a
06:28thing.
06:28But I don't think at this point – I don't think there's any reason to be worried anymore about whether
06:35the moment is going to be too much for them or anything.
06:39That's why Sunday – that's Sunday.
06:41That's why Friday in Boston, game six, felt so fulfilling is that as the game went on and the third
06:49period starts and you're nursing a 2-1 lead,
06:52first five minutes of the period going by and it's like, oh, this is going to get really heavy here.
07:00Like, this is really going to – it's going to test us.
07:02It's time to start pacing.
07:04You know, it's really going to get tense.
07:07And then Josh Doan makes a play and it's 3-1 and, you know, you're not on cruise control, but,
07:14I mean, you've got a cushion.
07:16And I entirely trusted them from that point, 15 minutes to go, 14 minutes to go, whenever that goal was
07:23scored, it was over, to garage the game.
07:26I couldn't tweet it that early because I just can't – I can't do it that early.
07:30It just – it feels irresponsible, as silly as that might be.
07:34I get it.
07:35But in my head, I'm like, they got – they're home.
07:38There's no way they're blowing this.
07:40This team, this year, with the way they've buckled down third periods, they'll be lucky if Boston gets a good
07:46chance.
07:47And pretty much, that's kind of what – I mean, they just kind of cruised from there.
07:54And that is – that should get rewarded with trust.
07:58You know, as a fan, you should go, like, I trust these guys.
08:01I mean, Boston's not Montreal.
08:03It's a different matchup.
08:04And, again, it doesn't guarantee you anything here.
08:06But any reservations you had about whether they were going to be physical enough or mentally tough enough or, you
08:15know, are they going to crack in some way –
08:17I mean, the only thing that cracked is that Lukanen got a bad bounce on a 100-foot shot in
08:22game two.
08:23That's the only, like, faux pas, really, they've had in those six games.
08:28I mean, as I say, they were perfect.
08:29But there was nothing glaring, nothing like you can't believe – oh, my God, I can't believe that guy did
08:34that.
08:34Well, I mostly agree.
08:37It wasn't that the Sabres didn't get some luck against Boston.
08:42I mean, they did get some luck against Boston.
08:44I think game one a little bit.
08:46And I think game three a little bit.
08:48And then game six a little bit.
08:50But game five was not their, you know, lucky day.
08:55But that's okay.
08:57Like, that doesn't mean they didn't deserve to win.
08:59It's just Boston – I wasn't worried at 3-1.
09:02I was pretty worried at 2-1 for a while because Boston had a lot of looks at tying that
09:07game.
09:08And, you know, goaltending is not all luck, but goalie came through.
09:12And there were – not to rehash it because we don't need to, but there were a couple of plays
09:17in Buffalo with the Bruins
09:19where the geeky in game one, like, just had to hold that and didn't shoot.
09:22And they just – it could have been different.
09:24It could have been different.
09:25But the better team won.
09:28And all this glowing optimism about the Sabres says nothing about Montreal, which probably, why wouldn't it be true,
09:37comes in with the same everything.
09:40Like, just nothing to lose.
09:42They get to start on the road, which we both kind of like.
09:47Like, just, like, none of this counteracts anything about the Canadians because they could have all the same –
09:55they're young and dumb and just like, we're good.
09:58You beat Tampa, who can't you beat?
10:00You beat Tampa in game seven on nine shots, who can't you beat?
10:03Right.
10:04Yeah, they should definitely be feeling that.
10:05And it might be right.
10:07Maybe a Montreal version of me feels exactly the way I do right now going into this.
10:12Like, I feel very good about my team.
10:15I don't know what's going to happen in the games, but I know – I feel like I want to
10:20trust them.
10:21And, you know, that's not always been true.
10:23Like, you get hung up on different things.
10:26Like, I'm not even – I doubt they're going to get the good fortune of winning multiple series here.
10:32If they don't get their power play going, like, I think it's hard to continue to win in the playoffs
10:38without it.
10:39Because five on five can just get so buttoned up that you're just going to need that juice that the
10:45power play is going to give you.
10:47And so I'm not optimistic that they can score one power play goal the whole series and win a long
10:54series, which, you know, a six-game series is long.
10:57I wouldn't bet on it.
10:58I wouldn't bet on it.
10:59So, like, that's an area to really, you know, kind of hone in on.
11:03But even that, you've got an answer.
11:06Like, we talked to Mike Kelly yesterday.
11:07And without having done a deep dive, it's like the scoring chances were there.
11:12They were in the top five in looks, basically.
11:16They just didn't score.
11:18But that's encouraging.
11:20And I'm like, okay, I can take that with me and do another series.
11:23And hope that I get some different, you know, some different bounces here or there.
11:26That's where, you know, the word luck comes back into it a little bit.
11:29You know, bounce here or there.
11:31You know, goal, mouth, scramble, it ends up on your stick, not the defender's, and you shovel it in.
11:36That can be a lot of power play goals at this time of the year.
11:40So hopefully they get that because I think that is the one area I would look at and say, like,
11:47if that doesn't get going, they could be in pretty tough.
11:53Sabres at DraftKings, minus 135.
11:55Pretty good.
11:56For the game or the series?
11:58For the game.
11:58Okay.
12:01For the series, it would be about the same, right?
12:04Not quite as good.
12:04Minus 115.
12:07Slighter favorite, if that's a word.
12:10Minus 135 tonight.
12:12Over under, slight juice to the over, five and a half.
12:16What do you like?
12:17You like, over five and a half or under?
12:19Under pays a little better.
12:23I mean, God, five and a half.
12:25I mean, that's, I could see three, two.
12:27I think I would go under.
12:30I think I would go under.
12:31This is another one where you can't win in overtime.
12:34You know?
12:34If it's two, two, you're dead.
12:36Right.
12:37Three, three, you already won.
12:38Right.
12:38So, if it's six, then I get to three, three, then I'm going to win.
12:42Right.
12:42Necessarily.
12:43Right.
12:44Okay.
12:44I largely avoid totals.
12:47It, there's never enough juice on one side or the other.
12:50Like, it's always pretty close.
12:52And so, it doesn't really move the, you know, move my parlay much.
12:57So, I tend to not bother with it.
13:00You know?
13:00Because I'd hate to, like, I'm going to pick this guy for a goal and that guy for a goal
13:04and the over.
13:05And if I get my goals and I don't get the over, like, that feels like maybe the worst beat
13:09I could suffer.
13:10So, I just tend to avoid it because, again, like, if it's, you know, minus 110 or whatever it is,
13:17it just isn't going to bump my parlay up enough to make it worth the risk to me.
13:21You're a parlay guy.
13:22I'm a parlay guy.
13:23Yeah.
13:23DraftKings says 71% of the bets have been placed on the Sabres.
13:29Uh, you got a goal hunch?
13:32I'm on Zucker to score first.
13:353-1?
13:36Or no, that's any time.
13:3718-1.
13:37First goal, Zucker.
13:39I had that in Boston.
13:40Yeah.
13:41Lost.
13:41I've had it a couple times in this.
13:43I've only, I haven't bet on every game so far.
13:45The ones I have, I've had Zucker to score first.
13:48Um, mostly, it was, my thinking was the power, you know, we're worried about the power play.
13:54They're going to get an early power play and he's going to score.
13:56And there it is.
13:58There's my first goal and there's alleviating your concern about the power play.
14:01And I'm sort of back to that now.
14:03So, um, you know, obviously if he doesn't get that, then I'm dead.
14:07But I've got that with a couple other things.
14:09Um, you know, nothing crazy.
14:11Maybe a Benson goal and a Caulfield goal and the Sabres.
14:16Minus one and a half.
14:17Caulfield?
14:18Sure.
14:18How dare you?
14:19Yeah, well.
14:20Not Demidoff?
14:21I'm expecting them to score.
14:23Are you?
14:24Yeah.
14:24Yeah.
14:25How about that?
14:26Hopefully not a lot.
14:27But, you know.
14:27Radio's the Bulldog.
14:28I think they will score some.
14:29Expects Montreal.
14:30They will score some Bulldogs.
14:30To score.
14:32Here's Frank next.
14:33Hello.
14:34Hey, guys.
14:35Thanks for having me.
14:37Thank you for calling.
14:37I just, I just wanted to say, like, I agree with Bulldog.
14:41I think the team has the utmost confidence.
14:43We already got the world's heaviest jacket off our backs.
14:47I don't see any problem with us handling Montreal, except for the fact of what it's going to
14:52take, like, two injuries maybe, and like, maybe a couple of players possibly getting
14:57suspended or something.
14:58That's the only thing I'm worried about is injuries.
15:00I think we have this in at least seven games.
15:03I think it's going to go to the wire, and I think they're going to be very tired, and
15:07our next opponent is probably going to give us more of a challenge than anything just based
15:11off of what we've done so far.
15:13Thanks, guys.
15:14Have a good one.
15:15Thanks.
15:15You too.
15:16Suspensions?
15:19The rest could be, if this series goes long, and Carolina steamrolls Philly, they play game
15:29three tomorrow, and then game four on Saturday.
15:35Conceivably, like, that is over.
15:38If, you know, they win those two games, it's over.
15:40And I'm not even to game, where am I?
15:44I'm not even to game three yet.
15:45So game four is Tuesday.
15:47If you had two sweeps, I think you could maybe see it start next Friday.
15:53Right, right, right.
15:54Which is still six days for Carolina.
15:56Right.
15:57But if the Sabres go long, Carolina is sitting around for ten days.
16:02Well, you've got to bet Philadelphia then, because the league won't want that.
16:05Right, right.
16:06Bet the refs.
16:09We had a little fun with some Sabres-Canadians playoff trivia earlier today.
16:14Just, you know, just among us guys here.
16:19I did this this morning.
16:22Banged out a spreadsheet.
16:24All seven series Sabres and Canadians in points.
16:27Goals in points.
16:28Here's a question.
16:30Although this is not about Montreal.
16:32I like this question.
16:34Okay.
16:34Not about Montreal.
16:37Why?
16:38For once.
16:39I'm not making it about them.
16:42Most playoff points in history by a Sabre that was not on the 1975 team.
16:53So, Gilbert Perrault leads Sabres history in playoff points by 50.
17:01Rick Martin is second with, I think, 52.
17:04And Gilbert is almost double that.
17:06So, he has, you know, the gap is almost the same as every other player in Sabres history.
17:11Right?
17:12Mm-hmm.
17:12102 points.
17:13Martin is 52.
17:14Who has the most as a Sabre in the playoff by someone not on the 75 team?
17:19My first guess is going to be Mike Foligno.
17:23It's not Mike Foligno.
17:26How do we do here as a guess?
17:28Not bad.
17:29Let's see.
17:31He had...
17:34I can't find him.
17:37He's here...
17:37He had 24 playoff points.
17:39All right.
17:39The player who is the answer to this question had 38.
17:43Okay.
17:44He's here a long time, but it was mostly one and dones.
17:47Right?
17:48But he's here for that whole...
17:50Right?
17:51I mean, he's gone by the time they beat the Bruins in 93.
17:54I don't remember when he left.
17:55So, he's on the Sabres for 10 years.
17:57Okay.
17:58And he played in 39 playoff games.
18:01Right.
18:01It's like one round a year, basically.
18:03Pretty much.
18:04This player played in 61.
18:07Had 38 playoff points.
18:10Most of any Sabre not on the 75 team.
18:15Could it be Housley?
18:17Nope.
18:17Housley is 27.
18:20Then I'm going to guess Anderchuk next.
18:23Anderchuk is second on this list with 36 in 54 games.
18:28They were teammates.
18:30More than once.
18:32Ooh.
18:36They were Sabre teammates more than once.
18:39Is it Donald Audette?
18:41It is Donald Audette.
18:42Wow.
18:43Don't you love that?
18:44Yeah.
18:44I love that.
18:45Yeah.
18:45I'm...
18:46Yeah.
18:46Wow.
18:47All-time Sabre playoff points.
18:50Pero 103 was off.
18:52Martin 53.
18:53Craig Ramsey 48.
18:56Gare 44.
18:58Robert 39.
18:59Audette 38.
19:01Loose Anderchuk 36.
19:04Chetan 35.
19:0535.
19:06Three-way tie at 34.
19:08Howard Chuck.
19:08Wooley.
19:09Breer.
19:11Breer got that done in two seasons.
19:13Right.
19:15And there are three new names in the top 100.
19:20All right.
19:21Thompson, Tuck, Krebs.
19:23Leading scorers from the first round.
19:257-7-6.
19:26What about Krebs?
19:27How about Krebs?
19:28Get a load of Krebs.
19:29What a...
19:30That's tremendous.
19:31Krebs tied Larry Playfair for playoff points as a Sabre with six.
19:37And six games.
19:41Sam Carrick.
19:42Maybe not tonight.
19:43I said well done.
19:45Well done.
