02:20um then you know you get into the money standpoint he said in order to go to tuck's number they

02:27have had to get rid of three maybe four players which he wasn't willing to do um i don't know

02:36it would have been that many especially opening up 10.25 million dollars with the last night's
02:42activities um with two players going to the chicago blackhawks now benson will eat up around
02:51seven million of what they had i mean they had around 13 million to spend this year
02:58and benson would have eaten up around seven million of that you would add six million to spend and then
03:03you just got 10 million back so you would have had like 16 million to spend you know just for
03:10what you
03:10wanted to do um and they click a line and just didn't seem comfortable with it uh he didn't feel
03:17that uh well let's face it he didn't think tuck was worth 10 and a half million dollars it's as

03:23as that yeah and uh whether it was for the team what the team could do after they would sign

03:28player to 10 and a half million dollars and um he just didn't feel that asking price was worth
03:35worth it to the buffalo sabers he um definitely i think has other things up his sleeve that he would
03:43like to try to accomplish um and he did also mention that some agents have told him that they have
03:51clients that have taken the sabers off their no trade so you know they're they're starting to be
03:56an appetite to maybe come to the buffalo sabers i don't know if players named larkin or robertson
04:03have an appetite to do that but um you know so you know he'll be looking into that you know

04:10acknowledged what tuck brings is is you know he was a big part of their roster he was a big

04:16leader he was an important player but um as he said some players have the right to choose and he
04:23chose differently and um so but you know the one thing he said which if he winds up doing i

04:37trade i guess it is but um is you know he said well you know we have good young players

04:45know if we have to replace within he goes i'm very confident we can do that um i think your

04:52is not even anywhere near as good as it was if that's your move yeah um you know it's uh

05:00in austin and i believe in kuleik and i believe in uh helen use helen use and i think they
05:08have two
05:08studs coming on defense murtka and kleber uh within the next couple of years one to two years
05:15but that's a ways away and where's thompson when these guys get ready to make it sound make the
05:23sabers good which i think they will i you know but uh you know where's thompson at in his career
05:29then
05:29where is you know some of the other guys where's darlene at in his career when all this is
05:34happening so um i think that would be a huge mistake i don't think that's necessarily what
05:39he wants to do right i don't think that's what he's setting out to do um you know i think
05:45he's
05:45looking to to bring a really good player in to replace tuck but it's not going to be a 10
05:52and a
05:52half million dollar player you know because he's already said they can't afford that unless something
05:57goes out you know some money goes out if you're attempting to do that and if if robertson is
06:03willing to come to buffalo i'd be attempting to get some people out of here to bring a player like
06:09that in here jason robertson well there's always this not always i mean a lot of these by the way
06:16he's thought to be looking for a contract in the 12 and a half million dollar range robertson
06:21right so that's why i said outrageous i mean yeah right yeah i was going to say there's always a
06:27short-term goals versus long-term vision battle not always like when a lot of these saber teams
06:35have been bad and there's no short-term element at all you're just trying to dig out with youth and
06:40prospects etc but here i mean i guess if it's right that the sabers offered tuck something close to what
06:48he ended up getting that's not the same as saying well we don't think he's got it anymore but it
06:54can
06:54be said and we would all say it that long term that's going to be a lot of money for
06:59what he's
07:00probably going to give you in a few years if not sooner so interesting spot here of course for
07:06keke line and paul with the balance of always having the long-term stuff in mind not being willing
07:13to sign byram for what that would cost versus what they got in a i think an excellent trade package
07:17we'll talk about that but also you know trying to get that trying to get farther with a team that
07:23went deep this year and he got some things in that trade that will allow him possibly to reload
07:29with good players really good players you know the he you know by getting a you know the fourth overall
07:36pick moving up to 20 i mean if we're talking about a really really good player and you you put

07:42those picks in a package um you know you you can maybe get that really good player where maybe you
07:49couldn't before so you know that that's helped him load up even you know your third round pick that
07:55you're going to get for tuck could become part of a trade you know that that you can include you

08:01in in something like that or the second round pick that you got from chicago um you know you may
08:08have to give up one a year what i call two stud defensemen that are on their way um because
08:14i think
08:15they're both projected in my mind to be top four defensemen and let's face it look at the ages of
08:22your top three um they're not going anywhere soon and they're all they're all tied in the long-term
08:26deals so you got maybe one spot in the top four so maybe one of those two wind up in
08:33some sort of a
08:34trade that uh that that lands you a really good player so you know there's a lot of highway here
08:42sure they've got a ton of ammunition and you know including what they got last night i mean
08:47you know i i immediately thought okay well you can flip the fourth into like i don't know your name
08:54here i mean it's a matter of whether you can get guys to wave and you can afford them and
08:57all that but
08:58like you know that's that's a valuable asset to me it's a much more valuable asset if i'm sort of
09:05rebuilding here um but i'm not i'm i'm trying to build on a 109 point team that won the division
09:12that should be looked at as a cup contender and yeah i mean i i i i like the deal

09:20it's a it i think they fleeced chicago but i really didn't get anything i need directly from it
09:27unless i spin four into something that helps me right away if you wind up with a forward one of
09:35the top three forwards or four forwards you might get somebody you can use pretty quickly yeah but
09:41i mean people are talking about top three picks being forwards which means buffalo in a very good
09:49defenseman draft would get the top defenseman but what with what we're talking about
09:57now i mean dalene took him four years power took him four years now there are exceptions schaefer
10:04right um you know macar quinn hughes and we can go on hudson there are exceptions to that rule
10:12but um still uh you're probably two three years away or more with that even with a top defenseman that
10:22you might be getting that's not on the menu right now i think that's not what you're looking for
10:27i would think yeah if that's what you're looking for then you're going backwards as a team you're
10:32not going forward so that that's not what i would be looking for i'd be looking for somebody that i
10:38that i can get in here and be useful my team within the year with paul hamilton so how do

12:31at age 21 so i think if if you need to and you need to open up his money you've

12:41so we've got the vacancy from tuck the vacancy from byram we haven't talked about goaltending
12:48bulldog and i did yesterday does what a what is your feeling about what the sabers want to do in

12:55if anything and b does anything that's happened in the last 24 hours change that
12:59yeah it didn't sound like him talking about the goal ending today that uh he's all that concerned

13:24if you get cal mccarr and he's well you have rasmus dalin but you can improve your d well of
13:30course you go get cal mccarr you know so if you can get a goaltender that's going to make you
13:35better
13:36but in my opinion if it's me i am not giving up the fourth pick overall for a goaltender i'm
13:41just not
13:43especially to get a goaltender is going to take 8.5 off my salary cap who has won a gold
13:48medal and
13:48played really really well and basically stole team usa a gold medal but has not performed well in the
13:55playoffs as a winnipeg jet um but is he a better goalie than what buffalo is on their roster yes

15:05one scored from center ice i mean and dominic koshik is one of the best goaltenders that ever lived

15:16from the red line um you know he he is he inconsistent sure he is i think he from december

15:23one of the better goaltenders around i think lion also was very good um they were they had their
15:29moments in the playoffs both ways but to me it's not one of their biggest problems and uh but if

15:38be better in goal and to me bobroski is not better in goal i did not like him at all

15:47wondering if he's done so that to me would not be getting better in goal can you get all the
15:54prospects
15:54back like a couple days early so that you can talk to them again knowing that now you might have

16:06started pondering if they actually would make the selection instead of spinning it into you know

16:42so i did get six of them good list that's a good list those are the top six that would

16:46good chance that'd be one of the guys buffalo takes the pick one of those six is going to be

19:47the taste of country is also down there at the ballpark when usually that is sold out oh yeah
19:52so parking is going to be wild down there so just just so people realize that if they didn't
