00:03Today on the show, a go-anywhere prize package.
00:07A car, a caravan, a stack of gold bullion worth over a half a million dollars.
00:12And monster whining under the cover of darkness.
00:15Look at that thing!
00:16Wow, I haven't caught quality whining like this for a long, long time.
00:22First, the perfect country retreat.
00:28My name's Dean, I'm the groundskeeper here at Inbook Country Cabins.
00:33Keeping it nice is definitely worthwhile.
00:40Arriving at Inbook Country Cabins and walking into the cabin and everything that you need is there.
00:45All four cabins are set up to have their own individual view of the creek.
00:50Expectation of a bit of country living, it's a step away from the city.
00:53You know, you just, you turn up and it's just so laid back and relaxed and quiet and peaceful.
01:00And come and sit under, you know, our hundred plus year old fig tree.
01:04And we've got our mango tree around there with our chairs under it as well.
01:10You can go and sit down by the creek and just watch the platypus or the turtles.
01:18It's been in the family since the 60s.
01:21Karen and Donna used to, they're the owners, they used to come up as kids to their auntie and uncle's
01:27cattle farm.
01:28And yeah, just, it's a real sense of family and that's also what they've tried to create with the cabins
01:36and the space that they've provided.
01:42We've got Barumba Dam close by.
01:44A lot of people come here and fish.
01:45They bring their boats and, you know, we get the same people coming back year after year to go on
01:50their fishing holidays.
01:52Have Kenilworth not too far, which is a really good destination.
01:56Plenty of, plenty of waterfalls, creeks, some good swimming holes, but also local produce.
02:02Yeah, I think the appeal is, you know, Imble being so close to everything.
02:06They are, people can just come and, you know, haven't got to spend days driving somewhere.
02:09They can just hop in their car and they're an hour or so away, but it feels like you're a
02:14million miles away.
02:15Yeah, nice to sort of come back of an afternoon after you might have done your day trips out into
02:20the hinterland somewhere and just come back and get together for a meal and sit around the fire and take
02:25in the stars and the tranquility.
02:34I consider myself very lucky to grow up in Queensland, but because of the vast nature of the state, it's
02:40not very often that I get to go inland and explore the outback.
02:44Well, today is the day and I couldn't be more excited.
02:52We're going west to Quilpie. I tell you what, this is the way to do it. Driving the Apollo, just
03:00lapping up the scenery.
03:03These roads are incredible. Like, so I'm from New Zealand, so yes, we have long stretches of road, but nothing
03:08like this.
03:09It's never a thing. The road is straight as far as the eye can see.
03:14It's off into the horizon. Yeah.
03:15Yeah, it's almost like an oasis up there. It's like, is there an end in sight?
03:20Yeah, it turns into a mirage at some point. I'm not sure what I'm seeing.
03:28Even the drive is entertaining, but the destination is a whole other ballgame.
03:37Tonight, we're at the Lake Quilpie, a place with a tale to tell, and this man knows that story best.
03:46Hello.
03:46G'day, how are you?
03:47Dead, is it?
03:48It is.
03:49Oh, g'day, I'm Liz.
03:50Nice to meet you, Liz.
03:51Nice to meet you.
03:52G'day, how are you?
03:53Welcome to the lake.
03:54We've been so excited to arrive. This is the furthest south-west either of us have been.
03:58Oh, excellent. No, great to have you both here. So you're pretty keen for a four-wheel drive tour?
04:03Yeah, absolutely. I'd love to see the lay of the land.
04:06Yep, righty, let's go.
04:07Yay!
04:07Sounds good.
04:11I promise the trip isn't all these puppies. Oh, wow, look at this, it's amazing.
04:16This is some of their unpowered cabbie, right on the lake.
04:22Oh, my gosh, they've got so much character. Hello, bud. Hello, you want to go exploring?
04:29Kalaharis are the dark reds.
04:31Uh-huh, so that guy over there?
04:32Yep, yep.
04:33And this guy here?
04:34Yep.
04:34So these are actually a breed from South Africa. Bought over to crossbreed with one of our Australian...
04:40Crossbreed with the Australian rangeland goats. Bred for their meat.
04:46Good appetite on them too.
04:48Absolutely.
04:49You just want cuddles. Oh my gosh, can you come home with me? I'm smitten. I'm smitten.
04:55I think you'd get on really well with my kids.
04:57It might just be a bit hard on your garden, that's the only problem.
05:05What do you love so much about calling this home?
05:09I guess it's just the wide open spaces and the freedom. Yeah, no, it's a fantastic place to live.
05:14I imagine no day would be the same.
05:17No, we're always doing something different and, yeah, heaps of surprises.
05:21Today's surprise, a visit from this guy.
05:27No, he's a pet.
05:27Oh my gosh! Yeah.
05:31This is Damo, the extra friendly emu.
05:35And I think that's our cue to get back in the bus.
05:43And if that's got you keen on a road trip, Gary's up next with a trailer tip to keep you
05:48on the road.
05:59Regular viewers of the show would have seen me wash the boat, trailer, motor, plenty of times, and I've always
06:05said it's a good idea to do it yourself, because when you're doing it you pick up anything that might
06:09be a problem.
06:10It could be a bit of corrosion, you know, a loose battery terminal, anything like that.
06:14Well, I had a classic example myself over the holidays.
06:17So what our problem was, is this back seal failed.
06:22Just wear and tear over the years.
06:23You can see the rust had already started to form on the inside, but we don't see that.
06:27That actually goes the axle through that, and that's the seal on the back of the hub.
06:32That lets water in, then of course your bearings rust.
06:36So this is the one that has just started to let us down.
06:39It would have been sitting there in the garage for a month or two.
06:43A bit of salt water would have got in down the bottom, so it's rusted.
06:47But when we've gone, it's freed itself.
06:50But a couple of those pins there are bent.
06:52If you come in nice and close, you'll see that.
06:55So I'm not going to go through the whole process of showing you how to put it back in.
06:59But I am going to show you a little tip of how to put a couple of the components back
07:04in.
07:04So this is our rear racer.
07:07But these are very difficult, or can be very difficult, to get in and out.
07:11This is an old one.
07:12Let's have a look what you can do to this old one to make life easier to punch that new
07:17one in.
07:17Let's slip over to the grinder.
07:20This is why I like to think twice before throwing anything out.
07:25And the short answer to your question is, yes, that does get hot.
07:28So you put it down, do it a bit at a time.
07:31No, I'm not going to put gloves on with a turning wheel.
07:35So remember this is an old hub, so I haven't taken the old one out.
07:38But to give you an idea of what I'm talking about, you would put in your new racer in like
07:44that.
07:45Put a bit of, smear a bit of grease around it.
07:46And then, to punch that in, the one that I've just ground down.
07:51Put that on top.
07:54Good solid block of wood.
07:58Punch that in.
08:00Need to get it a little bit more.
08:04And just knock that in.
08:06And that one hasn't got stuck in there.
08:09Same goes for the other side.
08:11Front one, your old one.
08:14Ground that down.
08:15And again, you can get that nice.
08:17And punch that in.
08:18And it just comes back out.
08:19Doesn't get stuck in.
08:20And if you're going to do your long trip.
08:22Again, whether it's your caravan or your boat or your camper.
08:25You can buy these kits that come, get a good quality one.
08:28And everything comes in the kit.
08:30Pre-pack all that.
08:31Then you've got a spare.
08:32If ever you've got to do it, it makes it a lot easier to get it out.
08:35Especially on the roadside with all the tools.
08:38And that kit comes with everything.
08:40Keep that in mind.
08:41Make your life a little bit easier.
08:46A short journey inland from Queensland's vibrant surf capital.
08:50You will find a serene and picturesque region to explore.
08:55The Gold Coast hinterland is full of natural wonders,
08:58cool towns and hidden gems just waiting for you to discover.
09:07Lush rainforests will amaze while the stunning waterfalls they harbour will enchant.
09:25In Mount Tambourine, quirky shops, cool cafes, restaurants and boutique breweries cater for every taste.
09:35There we go, cheers.
09:37Even the family pooch receives the five-star treatment.
09:42There are plenty of places to rest your head at night from basic campsites to luxe digs.
09:48So head just inland and soak in the tranquillity of the Gold Coast hinterland.
09:57Still to come, what a new Land Cruiser.
09:59Why wait?
10:00This is Top of the Line.
10:14A car, a caravan, a stack of gold bullion worth over a half a million dollars.
10:19And you know the best news of all?
10:21This, all this, could be yours.
10:30When it comes to prize packages, this is Top of the Line.
10:34A Toyota Land Cruiser Wagon GR Sport equipped with a 3.3 litre V6 twin turbo.
10:44Yep, plenty of grunt.
10:47And also a stack of premium accessories, including Lotus wheels, a LED light bar and bull bar,
10:54meaning it's kitted up and ready to take anywhere.
10:57And to make it even sweeter for one lucky winner, this is our new home on wheels.
11:03We're talking a wild trail caravan.
11:06Of course, custom-built featuring all the bells and whistles.
11:10Double bunks, coffee machine, dishwasher, induction cooker and upright fridge.
11:16And if you like being off-grid, it has all the specs.
11:21Teco Tough Ride Twin Shock independent off-road suspension,
11:25all-terrain tyres and an upgraded power system with lithium batteries.
11:30Say you're in the dream package, you want to get out there to places like this.
11:35Hey, Boyd, you gonna drive? No, mate.
11:37It's mine. It's all yours.
11:38Ooh, come on, let's go.
11:40You're gonna love this one, mate.
11:41Oh, it looks a beauty.
11:43Wide open spaces and at the foothills of some very specky country.
11:48Your first stop could be this hip camp, just out of Ipswich and Dullamore Campgrounds.
11:53Got the mountains there, we're in the wilderness.
11:56We're getting out in nature, that's what this prize package is all about, isn't it?
12:00Lee, you are spot on, mate.
12:01And it's so good for your health to be in environments like this, right?
12:04And, you know, that's what this four-wheel drive is all about, too.
12:08I mean, the GR Sport, it's got adventure in its DNA.
12:11And I've got to say, you're looking pretty good on the wheel.
12:13Does it suit me?
12:14It sure does, it sure does.
12:16And as you know, Lee, this time of year it's perfect for going around Australia camping and caravanning.
12:21This time of year it's beautiful.
12:22You know, we haven't quite hit winter yet, the darkness of winter,
12:25even though our winters in Queensland aren't too bad.
12:27Yeah.
12:27But there's just that nice bit of chillness in the air.
12:29And with this latest Mata Cars for Cancer prize package, look, it has plenty of power.
12:34It has plenty of capability and it has loads of luxury.
12:38And all of that adds up to freedom.
12:40And that's what we have to do, Lee.
12:42We need to not worry about the what-ifs, you know, that might be holding you back.
12:46Things are possible.
12:47You just need to get out there.
12:48And for some lucky winner, that's what they're going to do.
12:50They're going to win and just get out there.
12:54Half a million dollars.
12:55That's a big prize, isn't it?
12:56That's a game changer.
12:57It sure is.
12:58And it's going to give one lucky winner a big smile on their face, that's for sure.
13:01And Lee, let's not forget about the 150k in cashable gold bullion.
13:05That always comes in news, doesn't it?
13:07Oh, definitely.
13:08It's a great prize, but there's an equally great cause.
13:13Lee, when our fabulous supporters purchased the ticket in Mata Cars for Cancer,
13:18they are providing hope for our patients and their families.
13:21So that money helps fuel vital cancer research.
13:25With the research, you have breakthroughs.
13:27Things like better diagnosis, new and improved ways of surgery,
13:30new equipment, and much better patient care.
13:33So, look, research, it affects us all.
13:36Research helps change lives.
13:38So that's why it's a great cause to get behind.
13:41For 21 years, Cars for Cancer has been raising vital funds
13:45fueling cancer research at Mata and making a positive impact in the community.
13:50Changing lives with every ticket.

14:06We're hitting the Gold Coast canals after dark, after the break.
14:09Come on.
14:10Into the net.
14:11Oh, that's a ripping.
14:15Look at that thing.
14:17Wow.
14:17I've been quality wadding like this for a long, long time.
14:29Well, as that sun just starts to set over the skyscrapers here on the Gold Coast,
14:33conditions pretty good as well.
14:34Light winds on the way.
14:35People are winding down after their big day at work.
14:38Not this man.
14:39I'm just getting started.
14:42The agenda?
14:43Fishing for wadding.
14:44There's no better guide on the Gold Coast than Youngie,
14:47or as I call him, the Whiting King.
14:50The early evening run-in is all part of the plan.
14:54Well, Scotty, we're at the end of our summer season now
14:56and from September through to April the whiting bite vetted up.
15:00There's more fish and there's bigger fish at night.
15:02Okay.
15:03I think a lot of it has to do with boat traffic on the Gold Coast here in the summertime.
15:07Plus the water's quite warm and there's a lot of predators around.
15:10So night time, a little bit quieter.
15:12Yes.
15:12Under the cover of darkness, you and I will be chasing a few.
15:19We're still going to fish the same process.
15:21We're still going to fish the corrugations.
15:23We're still going to fish the drop-offs.
15:24And we're still going to fish the tidal flow over the sandbank that will give us the food.
15:29It's the tidal flow that produces the food from the sandbanks, exposes the food,
15:34then the whiting get in and dig their noses into the sand and have a feed
15:38and hopefully one of them's our bait.
15:40This is your Crib Island Bloodworm that we buy from the bait shop.
15:43They're very expensive, but they're the best whiting bait you'll buy.
15:47This one's our local bloodworm dug in our mangrove creeks, the muddy creeks.
15:53They're hard work to get.
15:54You can't buy them, but they are, in my opinion, the best whiting bait that you'll get.
15:59These ones are our local wriggler worms out of the canals.
16:03They're very scarce nowadays.
16:06We're fishing a fast-flowing current, so it's a five-ball sinker.
16:10And a smaller hook, meaning less bait required and easier for the whiting to eat.
16:16I can't wait any longer.
16:18Just get in a little, little one out there.
16:21Just let that sink down to the bottom.
16:26I love whiting fishing.
16:28The fish are as keen as I am.
16:30We don't strike, do we?
16:31No, mate, no.
16:32We just let him eat it.
16:34We just let him, he's starting to play with that one,
16:35but I'm used to picking it up and waiting and striking.
16:38If you pick the rod up, Scotty.
16:40Oh, bite, bite.
16:42So we're waiting until that bends over.
16:44Not necessarily, but now.
16:47Scotty, now.
16:48Like that?
16:49Yeah, like that.
16:52Like that?
16:53Yes.
16:54He's mastered it already.
16:55We're fishing four pound and six pound.
16:59That's it.
16:59Nice and light.
17:01Now we're in no rush because we've got plenty of current.
17:03They're big fish.
17:05So we lift him in, Youngie?
17:07If you want.
17:08You're the exit door.
17:09You've got the other line.
17:10I've got the other line, but that's all right.
17:12So you know what was happening.
17:13I was just about to do my little piece to camera for the Creek to Coast family
17:16and tell them what a good whiting angler I am
17:19and how that's a lovely big whiting I just caught.
17:22Youngie over the top.
17:23Got him on.
17:24In the water there.
17:25Another nice fish.
17:28Yeah, lift him up.
17:31Seriously?
17:32Seriously?
17:34I'd say it's worth the wait, but there is no waiting.
17:37Oh, oh.
17:38Yep.
17:38Yep.
17:39Got him.
17:39Jesus Christ.
17:40Got him out.
17:45Well, yes, I hope he didn't get me try to get that out of the holder then.
17:48But this is the little outfit I popped into BCF
17:53and grabbed this morning before I came to the Gold Coast.
17:57Ready to go.
17:58Braid on it.
17:59Just tied a bit of leader on.
18:01And it's going to catch its first whiting for me.
18:04I hope.
18:05Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
18:06Come on.
18:07Hey, hey, hey, hey.
18:09Oh, come on, buddy.
18:11Come on.
18:11Into the net.
18:12Into the net.
18:13Oh, that's a ripping.
18:16Look at that thing.
18:18Wow.
18:19I've been good quality whiting like this for a long, long time.
18:25Youngies on as well.
18:26This is crazy.
18:27This is only four pound line, Scotty, so we've got to be a little bit careful
18:30and we'll probably use the net.
18:31Look at me.
18:32I'm the whiting juggler.
18:33I've got one in my hand, one in the net.
18:35Well done, mate.
18:36It is a whiting-a-thon.
18:41I can't get the other rod in the water, Scotty.
18:44Right, Scotty.
18:45There's another good one.
18:46That's a beauty.
18:48Another 30-centimetre fish.
18:53He's not a bad one.
18:55Come here.
18:56Oh, Jesus.
18:58Yeah, not a whiting.
19:04Oh.
19:06Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
19:07Nice fish.
19:09I don't even remember what I was trying to tell you.
19:11Oh, that's right.
19:11It's getting dark and they're going to become more aggressive and bang.
19:15Oh, he's a cracker.
19:17He is a...
19:18Oh, wacky.
19:19Look.
19:20Look at this thing.
19:22Prehistoric.
19:26No.
19:29No.
19:31Look at that thing.
19:33Talk about elbows, slappers and all of that, but that is genuine high 30s.
19:39The official numbers in, 36 of your finest Australian centimetres.
19:45So, which is a cracking, cracking whiting in anyone's books.
19:48Look at that.
19:49Beautiful fish.
19:50There's plenty of whiting out there, so grab a combo like this and chase one yourself.
19:56You'll find everything you need at your local BCF or BCF online.
20:00I couldn't think of a better way to finish what has been, in my opinion,
20:04the best whiting fishing I've done since I fished with you about five years ago.
20:08Big whiting, and in my opinion, people ask me the best eating fish out of the estuary
20:12are whiting as well.
20:14So, as we take a breath, I just reflect on what's just happened.
20:18I'll say goodbye to Creek The Coast.
20:19Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram,

20:33Shake it back baby.
20:34We're going, we're going.
20:36Oh dear.
20:37Oh dear.
20:39That's good.
20:39That's good.
20:41And a Gold Coast mixed bag on soft plastics.
20:44Come on, we want you.
20:45Yeah baby.
20:46Yeah baby.
20:49Yeah baby.
20:50This is a better one.
20:52Excuse me, I'm trying to tilt to the Creek The Coast family bone mate.
20:56Over the top of me.
20:59Oh, he's got a nice big grunter, that'll do.
21:00That's Creek The Coast next Saturday, right here on 7.

21:27I seriously have got two on.
21:29I'm being a bit of a rod hog there, but I just had to.
21:32Look at that thing.
21:33Look at that thing.
21:34That's a dinosaur.
