00:00From Hollywood, it's Jimmy Kimmel Live!
00:04Tonight, Olivia Munn, Leslie Odom Jr.,
00:08and music from Bebe Rexall with the Klee Tones!
00:14And now, Jimmy Kimmel!
00:32I'm Jimmy, I'm the host, thanks for watching.
00:36We're happy to have you here in Hollywood, California.
00:41Thank you for it.
00:44Well, you know what, I'm glad you're in a good mood.
00:47Thanks for making it here on time in spite of the dreaded daylight saving.
00:51For me, this is one of the worst days of the year, really.
00:54Daylight Saving Monday, as if the days weren't long enough already every day.
01:00This morning, the kids didn't want to get out of bed.
01:01I didn't want to get out of bed.
01:03The bed didn't want us to get out of it.
01:05It was, you know, my wife likes daylights.
01:07She likes springing forward, which makes me hate it even more.
01:11And now my kids and I all hate it together.
01:14And so now, not only are we exhausted, we start the morning with a fight.
01:17She doesn't want me to teach the kids to complain about things we can't control.
01:22And teaching them to complain is really all I have to give, so it's a problem.
01:27Who is, in your opinion, who is right on this, Guillermo?
01:34Jimmy, women are always right, so I think you're right.
01:41So, I'm sorry.
01:44Anyway, this is what our government should be working on, because it was a tough day
01:48for Trump, too.
01:49You know, he lost a whole hour of rage posting yesterday.
01:52This guy, I don't know what kind of magic cocoon the devil gave him when they made that
01:57deal, but somehow he manages to do everything wrong, just rolls right off his shoulder.
02:02On Thursday, Congress finally forced the DOJ to post those summaries of the interviews
02:07the FBI did with a woman who says Trump assaulted her sexually and physically when she was a
02:11young teenager.
02:13Her account of what she says happened is genuinely horrifying.
02:16The FBI interviewed her four times.
02:18Today, four days later, it's like it never happened.
02:20We're right on to the next thing.
02:22On Saturday, Trump found time to take part in what they call a dignified transfer.
02:26It's a solemn event in which the remains of service members who were killed in action are
02:31returned to U.S. soil.
02:32We've now lost seven American lives in Trump's war on Iran.
02:36And paying respect to troops who sacrificed everything as a result of a decision you made
02:42is one of, if not the most important things a president does.
02:45But God forbid he just do it normally and respectfully.
02:49On Saturday, Trump made history becoming the first president to attend a dignified transfer
02:54while wearing his own merch on his head.
02:57He wore a gold Donald Trump brand here in San Francisco.
03:01He wore a hat.
03:02Baseball players don't even wear baseball caps.
03:05During the national anthem, he wears one to this.
03:09And here he is checking his diaper to see if it's full, which it was.
03:13And by the way, in case you're in the market, you know how much our draft dodging president
03:22charges for that U.S.A. cap?
03:2455 bucks.
03:25That's right.
03:26It's like a whole teaspoon of gas.
03:29But make no mistake, fashion faux pas aside, this is a president who supports our military.
03:34He's even selling a special veteran edition of his God Bless the USA Trump Bible.
03:40$99.99.
03:42All proceeds go to him and his partners.
03:45That's right.
03:46Every situation is a merchandising opportunity.
03:48And of course, whenever the president does something shameful, the heroes at Fox News swoop in to clean it up
03:54for him.
03:54Fox News covered this by using footage from a dignified transfer last year in which Trump was not wearing a
04:01hat.
04:02But the Internet figured it out pretty quick.
04:04So Fox News had to put out a statement.
04:06During our coverage of yesterday's dignified transfer, we inadvertently aired video from an older dignified transfer.
04:12Instead of the ceremony that took place yesterday, we deeply regret the error and deeply regret getting caught for the
04:19error.
04:19But hey, these things happen, right? I'm sure if CNN made that mistake, the folks at Fox would be super
04:25chill about it.
04:26And I know that if any president did something that was deemed to be disrespectful,
04:30I'm sure if Obama or Biden or even a vice president, Kamala Harris, did that, if one of them ran
04:36afoul of military protocol,
04:37I'm sure Fox would look the other way on that too, right?
04:41And new developments tonight on the fallout from what many are calling President Obama's latte salute.
04:46The disrespectful way the president saluted a Marine yesterday with his latte in his hand.
04:52It's not a latte salute. It's a chai salute because he drinks chai tea.
04:56But I mean, please, how disrespectful was that?
04:58Obama, unlike his Democratic colleagues, isn't putting his hand over his heart during the national anthem.
05:04My flop is Joe Biden checking his watch during during the dignified transfer ceremony.
05:10Multiple times looking at his watch, why he would need to do such thing. There's no explanation.
05:14You've got a team of people who are around just to make sure you don't have lint on your jacket
05:19and they can't help you not check your watch.
05:21It's a tweet from Vice President Kamala Harris.
05:23Enjoy the long weekend.
05:25The long weekend.
05:26You're in a position of such power where people look to you and your only answer is,
05:30Look at me. I'm cute. Have a long weekend.
05:33Not just fair. Fair and balanced, folks.
05:36And then, with all hell breaking loose in the Middle East, Rory Snackle Roy did what any wartime president would
05:42do.
05:42He hit the links. That's right.
05:44He played a round in Miami at Trump Doral.
05:47And it was good to see him back out there bragging, cheating and farting on every hole.
05:53And why not? It's not like he ever promised us he wouldn't play golf.
05:56I'm gonna be working for you. I'm not gonna have time to go play golf.
06:00Oh.
06:02Promises made, promises kept.
06:03Though, to be fair, he also said he wouldn't start any worse, all right?
06:06But honestly, I'm okay with him playing golf.
06:09I wish all he would do is play golf.
06:11All day, every day.
06:13Every minute he's deciding which cup he used is the minute he's not screwing something up.
06:18Every second he's listening to his caddy is the second he's not listening to Stephen Miller.
06:22I'd say more golf for him. Let's make a Nobel Prize for golf and give it to him.
06:29Give it a happy Neil Gilmore.
06:31No president has golfed more heroically than him.
06:34Now, get out on the links and play all day long.
06:37By the way, also at his club in Miami this weekend,
06:39Trump introduced the former head of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem,
06:43as the new special envoy to what Trump calls his Shield of the Americas Coalition.
06:49See, Kristi Noem wasn't fired. She just moved from her high-profile cabinet position
06:54to run a coalition Trump made up.
06:56Kind of like when he made Mike Pence a spaceman, right?
07:00The summit was a chance for El Presidentius to show off his love
07:03for both Latin America and little Marco.
07:06I'd love to get to your countries at some point.
07:08Marco loves going to your countries. He's always at one of these countries.
07:12He likes your countries the best, okay? He's got a language advantage over me.
07:19Because I'm not learning your damn language. I don't have time.
07:24Guillermo, do you have any words in Spanish you would like to teach him?
07:28Adios, mentiroso.
07:31Goodbye, liar. Goodbye, liar.
07:35And then it was time for Trump to demonstrate his incredible gift
07:38for pronouncing the names of fellow foreign leaders.
07:41President of El Salvador, another friend, Naib Bukele.
07:49Some friend.
07:51For the record, his friend's name is Naib Bukele, not Naib Bukele.
07:57And then he shifted smoothly to the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago.
08:01Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago.
08:05I have to be very careful with this because, you know,
08:08your word, your first name is very similar to a first name that we have.
08:13But fortunately, it's pronounced different. It's Kamala.
08:18As opposed to Kamala.
08:20I like Kamala better.
08:21It's Cam, right? Cam, as opposed to com.
08:26But we don't like com.
08:27No.
08:29That's unfortunate because her name is Kam.
08:33Her name is Kamala, not Kamala.
08:36But what he lacks in articulation, he more than makes up for with random asides.
08:41President of Panama, I love that canal.
08:46It's his favorite canal.
08:48And now he has a new name to pronounce.
08:50So Ron has chosen a new Supreme Leader.
08:52He is the son of the former Supreme Leader.
08:55And if you thought Don Jr. didn't get hugged enough by his dad,
08:58wait till you meet Mustafa Khamenei.
09:00Trump says he is not happy with the choice, which makes sense.
09:04You know, if there's one thing he can't stand, it's nepotism.
09:06He's very much against you.
09:08Iranian officials say they're gearing up for a long war
09:11and that there's no room for diplomacy anymore.
09:14But Trump today said it will be a short term excursion into Iran and blame them for a history of
09:20using IEDs.
09:21They were very strongly involved.
09:23And all of the people that died through the roadside bombs died and are right now walking around with no
09:29legs.
09:31Walking around with no legs.
09:33Juggling with no arms.
09:36You get it. You understand.
09:37Oil prices are now over $100 a barrel for the first time since 2022.
09:42That's not good news for Trump, who promised during the campaign he would get gas prices below $2 a gallon.
09:48Unless Trump can get every gas station in America to hide the prices on their signs,
09:53this is going to be a problem for him in the midterms.
09:56Or maybe it won't, because of all the shenanigans he's trying to pull,
10:00probably the most dangerous one of all is his plan to fix the election.
10:04Trump gathered a group of Republicans today and he told them,
10:07forget everything else, pass the Save My Ass Act.
10:10Which, I mean, the Save America Act.
10:13Our commander and thief wrote the Save America Act, an 88% issue with all voters.
10:18It must be done immediately. It supersedes everything else.
10:20Must go to the front of the line.
10:23Same way he does with the Mar-a-Lago buffet.
10:26I, as president, will not sign other bills until this is passed.
10:31I guess that's a threat? I don't know.
10:32And not the watered-down version.
10:35Go for the gold. Must show voter ID and proof of citizenship.
10:38No mail-in ballots except for military illness, disability travel.
10:42No men and women's sports. No transgender.
10:45I don't know what any of this has to do with voting.
10:49Do not fail President Donald J. Trump.
10:52But Trump wants to make it as difficult for Democrats to vote as he possibly can
10:57under the guise of stopping voter fraud, even though there is no meaningful voter fraud.
11:03There is no evidence that anyone can...
11:06More Americans were eaten by wolves last year than voted fraudulently.
11:10This is about fixing the election. He made a big mess in Iran.
11:13It looks like we bombed a school and he's lying about it.
11:17There are three-hour lines at the airport because Democrats want ICE agents to follow the same rules
11:22every other law enforcement officer has to follow.
11:25His poll numbers are abysmal. The price of gas is going through the roof.
11:28And, of course, there's that little matter of those allegations in the Trump-Epstein files.
11:33And so to protect himself from losing the Senate and the House and probably getting impeached,
11:39he wants to change the rules of voting to make it more difficult for everyone,
11:43especially women, to vote. If this passes, you won't even be able to mail your ballots.
11:47And unless you're in the military, sick, disabled, or overseas, you will have to stand in a line to vote,
11:53even though he himself votes by mail.
11:57I don't want to brag, but, you know, they've said this about a lot of things.
12:01No other president can do some of the s**t I'm doing.
12:06No other president.
12:08The things I'm doing, nobody else was going to do them.
12:12Yeah, well, I'm not going to argue on that, for sure.
12:15And to top it off, you know that meeting?
12:17A little...
12:20There's always a little cherry at that meeting he had today with all the Republicans in the House.
12:25It's a three-day conference, and they had it at his... at the hotel he owns.
12:29His name's on the roof, and the money's in his pocket.
12:32No discounts, no promo codes, all Trump.
12:36He's got it all figured out.
12:37And, of course, he's in Florida, our weirdest president in our weirdest state.
12:42You know, Florida gives us so much day in and day out, so let's check in on what's happening there
12:48this week
12:49with an all-new edition of This Week in Florida.
12:54A Lee County woman is accused of a bizarre crime.
12:58Lee County deputies say she stole a man's golden dentures and his tickets to the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship.
13:05Deputies say Rivera ended up returning the dentures, but was still arrested.
13:11Well, that is why I disagree with that decision completely.
13:14We have a fun show for tonight.
13:16Leslie Odom Jr. is here.
13:17We have music from B.B. Retro.
13:20And we'll be right back with Olivia Munn, so stick around.
13:32All right, we're welcome back tonight.
13:34A Grammy and Tony Award-winning actor in his new series is called Imperfect Women.
13:40Leslie Odom Jr. is with us tonight.
13:43And then later on, she is a multi-platinum-selling singer and songwriter.
13:48This is her latest song, New Religion Music, from B.B. Rexha tonight.
13:54We have a very good week of shows this week, Guillermo.
13:57We have Harrison Ford, Will Forte, Sarah Chalk, Matthew Fox, Bunny XO will be here,
14:04and Conan O'Brien with music from Nora Jones and Joshua Homme.
14:08So please join us for all that.
14:10Our first guest tonight is a talented actress and officially, according to Los Angeles Magazine,
14:16The L.A. Woman.
14:19That's right.
14:22Season two of her show, Your Friends and Neighbors, premieres April 3rd on Apple TV.
14:26Please welcome Olivia Munn.
14:44It's very good to see you.
14:46How are you?
14:47How are you?
14:47I'm doing good.
14:49You know what?
14:49Now that I think about it, I assumed you were the L.A. Woman, and maybe you are the,
14:54or is it the L.A. Woman, or were you named officially the L.A. Woman?
14:59Um, I think it might, oh, it sounds horrible.
15:02Let's go with the official, the L.A. Woman.
15:04Because I do, they have a brunch for me, and I get some kind of, like a trophy.
15:09Yeah, yeah, if you got a brunch.
15:10I know.
15:11Like I won a competition.
15:12If they give you a brunch, that means you're the L.A. Woman.
15:15Congratulations.
15:15Thank you so much.
15:16How is the family?
15:17Everyone good?
15:18Everyone is doing really good, yeah.
15:19Yeah, yeah.
15:20Of course, your husband is John Mulaney.
15:22That's right.
15:22Very funny.
15:24Yeah.
15:25An adorable man.
15:26And how old are the kids now?
15:27Um, Malcolm is four, and May is 17 months.
15:30Four and 17 months.
15:31Yeah.
15:31Those are very fun ages, right?
15:33They are.
15:33It's so sweet.
15:34Malcolm right now is at his first jujitsu class.
15:37Oh, really?
15:37Yeah.
15:38I know, it's very cute.
15:39And John's at a fun age also, right?
15:41Yeah.
15:41You know?
15:43Yeah, he's a lot of fun.
15:44And John, who of course I know, tells me sometimes about Malcolm being on the road with him.
15:52Yeah.
15:52On his stand-up comedy tour.
15:54Yeah.
15:54Yeah, it's really cute.
15:55Which always is like funny to me that his tour manager is four.
16:00Yeah.
16:00And he has a lot of demands, by the way.
16:02He's got a longer rider than John.
16:04But yeah, John's on tour right now.
16:06And he does bring Malcolm with him everywhere, like solo.
16:09And they do their own thing.
16:10But it's so funny because they are little besties.
16:13I mean, you've been around.
16:14I mean, he's just like adores that little boy.
16:16And he's been talking to him like an adult since, you know, he was born.
16:20And Malcolm, just like John, is really verbal.
16:22And he could speak like, you know, in full sentences before he was two.
16:27And that's just John's side.
16:28That's my side.
16:31And so it's so funny because now that he's on tour with them, like really, and with them all the
16:37time,
16:37Malcolm has adapted this like adult, really adult way of talking.
16:42Like the other day, I like scheduled this fun play date and did this whole thing.
16:47And I was like, hey, like, you know, they're coming over.
16:49And he goes, did you think I wanted to play with them?
16:52And I was like, oh, okay.
16:56It's like a guy who won't let something go.
16:58You know, like, hold on, hold on.
16:59Did you think that I wanted them?
17:01It's, yeah.
17:02It makes us all so uncomfortable.
17:04Well, you know, it's life on the road.
17:05That's what happens.
17:07Yeah.
17:08You get a little hardened.
17:09Yeah.
17:10And you, by the way, I feel like I should mention, you know, we are in touch.
17:14So I know how you're doing.
17:15I know you're doing pretty well.
17:17Yeah.
17:17You went through a very public about your battle with breast cancer.
17:21You shared that with people, so that people who are also going through that.
17:25And then your mom got the same thing.
17:28Yeah.
17:29Which is really crazy.
17:31Yeah, yeah.
17:32It was, so the last three years, my mom and I both battled breast cancer.
17:36And so we've had a lot of surgeries and medication and treatment and stuff like that.
17:41But we're both doing well and feel very lucky.
17:45Good.
17:45Good.
17:45You found out.
17:48As I recall, and if I have this wrong, you found out first, and then your mom got checked,
17:53and then she found out because of that.
17:55Yeah.
17:56Because I did this thing called a lifetime risk assessment test.
17:58That's like a free online test, and it scored me high for getting breast cancer in my lifetime.
18:03And I had a clear mammogram and a clear ultrasound, and so did my mom.
18:06But because we scored high, we did MRIs, and that's how they found our breast cancer.
18:11Okay.
18:11So that's an important thing for people to do.
18:13Yeah, for sure.
18:14To check out.
18:14Were you able to guide her through what you had already been through?
18:19Yes, yes.
18:20I had the oncologist, I had everything, but I didn't go through chemo, and she had to
18:25go through chemo, which is, like, really difficult.
18:27And so I really wanted to take care of her.
18:30And so my mom was, like, really achy, and so I was like, let's go to a massage place.
18:39Like, it's foot reflexology.
18:40Uh-huh.
18:40And so we went to this little place that I hadn't gone to before, and we're sitting
18:44there, and we see, like, all the posters, and some were in Korean, some were in Chinese.
18:49And my mom was like, do you think they're Korean or Chinese?
18:51Asian people always want to know what other Asian people are.
18:53It's very important.
18:55So I was like, mm, I don't know.
18:56I saw that the lady was writing in her ledger by the cash register.
18:59Let me go look what she's writing, because I can tell the difference between Korean and
19:01Japanese.
19:02So I go up there, and I'm looking, and then out of nowhere, the owner comes out.
19:07And so I'm hovered over the cash register.
19:10And I see her, and she just looks at me, and I'm like, I just go back.
19:12I'm so embarrassed.
19:13I don't say anything.
19:13So I'm sitting there.
19:14We go in.
19:16We get the reflexology, and it's great.
19:19And so I said to my mom, I'm going to give them each $100 each.
19:22So I give, like, you know, three people $100 each.
19:24And we're leaving, and I'm about to walk out the door, and I hear, excuse me.
19:28And I turn around, and they go, this is fake money.
19:35Was it really fake money?
19:37John had a show where they used fake money.
19:41And I don't carry cash, but he always has cash.
19:43So I grabbed it out of his closet.
19:46And at this point, it's mortifying, because I am not trustworthy, and I get it.
19:53Uh-huh.
19:54Like, and I'm like, oh, my God, oh, my God.
19:55I was like, you know what?
19:56Let me go to the ATM really quick, and I'll go get you some money.
19:59And they were like...
20:01I'm like, yeah, I know I look like a liar.
20:03I go, I'll be right back.
20:04And they go, do you want to leave collateral, like your phone?
20:08And I was like, I'm going to leave my mom.
20:13So I go, and I come back, and I give them money, and then...
20:17Your mom's out there?
20:17Yeah, she's out there.
20:19And then I, days later, my mom was like, you know, that place was so good.
20:23I'd love to go back there.
20:24And I was like, you...
20:25We are never going back there.
20:27Like, forget it.
20:28Forget it.
20:29You'll never see them again.
20:30Wow.
20:30They're out of our lives.
20:32That's funny.
20:33Yeah.
20:34John and your mom are really, really close.
20:36They are very close.
20:37Yeah, very, very close.
20:38Are they too close?
20:39Um, you know, my...
20:41No, it's just enough.
20:43Okay, good.
20:43Because it's really great.
20:43Because they both want to stay up late and watch Korean movies.
20:46And I don't want to do that.
20:48They do.
20:49They just...
20:49That's what they do.
20:50And do they ever argue, or they ever...
20:53No, they are...
20:54Well, okay.
20:54They are best friends in every way you can imagine.
20:57But it's never, like, perfect with a mother-in-law and, like, you know, son-in-law.
21:01Um, my mom cooks for us.
21:03And she does...
21:04She's with us all the time.
21:05She, like, cooks, cooks, cooks all the time.
21:07And John loves her cooking.
21:09And, um, and so, okay, so when I grew up, I...
21:13My mom cooked all the time.
21:14And I could always walk in.
21:15I could smell all the cooking and the baking.
21:17And it just always reminded me of my childhood.
21:19And so when I had my son, that's what I wanted to do.
21:22But I was so exhausted with, like, cancer and postpartum.
21:25It was just...
21:26Right.
21:26I wasn't able to do it.
21:27So...
21:27And he's snarky.
21:28Yeah.
21:30Um, so then I was like, now I'm feeling more energetic.
21:34So I was like, I'm gonna start making something.
21:37So I thought the first thing I could do is, like, a crock-pot stew.
21:40Mm-hmm.
21:40And I make a beef stew.
21:42And I use this beef broth.
21:45And it smells so bad.
21:47Like, imagine the worst thing you've ever smelled and now make it sour.
21:51Like, that's what...
21:52It was like...
21:52And I called my mom and I was like, is this normal?
21:54And she's like, no, you must have got a bad one.
21:56Like, get rid of it.
21:58So when I tell you it was so bad, like, I was in my bedroom,
22:01like, eating pepperoncinis and jalapenos, trying to, like, kill whatever...
22:05Because I could taste it in the back of my throat.
22:06It's like, went...
22:07It was so bad.
22:08And then John comes home and I'm freaking out.
22:10I was like, you've got to...
22:11You've got to get in here.
22:12You've got to get rid of it.
22:13And then he goes to pour down the drain.
22:14I was like, what are you thinking?
22:15Like, this is the worst smell ever.
22:17You've got to, like, actually throw the whole crock-pot away.
22:20So he takes the garbage bag.
22:22He puts it in the garbage bag.
22:23He puts it into a box.
22:25He duct tapes the box up.
22:27He goes to the trash chute.
22:28And I was like, what is wrong with you?
22:30We're going to bomb the apartment building because we're in our place in Chicago.
22:34And so he takes it to the loading dock and leaves it on the loading dock.
22:38And we have to go inside and tell, like, the management and say, like, look, it's not a bomb, but
22:42it will ruin your week.
22:43So, like, we have to keep it out here.
22:46Wow.
22:46That's an extreme...
22:47He went to extreme measures to get rid of that.
22:49He did.
22:50I insisted.
22:51But then, okay, so I have gotten really good at my beef stew.
22:54Oh, good.
22:55Like, last week, my mom comes over.
22:58Okay.
22:58And she still thinks that my stew must have been bad.
23:02And I made a fresh batch, and my mom comes in, and not even, like, two minutes go by.
23:07And she comes in.
23:08She takes the stew.
23:09And this is John's favorite thing to eat now, just truly.
23:12And she takes it and throws it all away.
23:15And she goes, now I make new, better stew.
23:18And puts it back.
23:19And then John was there with a bowl.
23:20He was like...
23:23And he turns around and he goes, I'm so mad.
23:26I'm so mad.
23:27And I go, get over here.
23:28Get over here.
23:29And I was like, just drop.
23:30And he goes, I'm going to say something to her.
23:31I'm going to go over there and say something.
23:32He's never been mad at her in his entire life.
23:35He was like, I'm going to say something.
23:36You can't not say anything.
23:37This is what we do.
23:38She does so much for us.
23:40This is the trade-off.
23:41You have to eat her bad stew.
23:42I'm impressed.
23:43I'm really impressed that you didn't say anything.
23:46She threw your stew down the sink.
23:49Yeah.
23:49But when you have someone that cooks for your family all the time,
23:53I'm just like, God bless her for doing it all the time.
23:56Yeah.
23:56But I was surprised too.
23:58Because I'm pretty vocal.
23:59You're a better child than I am.
24:00You would have said something.
24:02Yeah.
24:02Because if my mother threw my stew away, we would be in court.
24:07I would sue them.
24:08I would understand.
24:09Malcolm could be your attorney.
24:11Did you think that he wanted you to throw it away?
24:13I would love to have a preschool attorney.
24:17Could be another show, by the way.
24:18When we come back, we're going to see Olivia's show.
24:20It's called Your Friends and Neighbors.
24:22Olivia Munn is with us.
24:53I've burned some bridges.
24:55That is Olivia Munn and James Marsden
24:57in Your Friends and Neighbors,
24:59which premieres season two on Apple TV on April 3rd.
25:03This is a fun show, right?
25:06I mean, there's a lot of craziness going on on this show.
25:08Yeah, it's a very fun show.
25:09Can you tell us for season two about what's going to go on
25:13without telling us what goes on?
25:15What goes on?
25:15Yeah.
25:16Well, we introduce a new neighbor, James Marsden.
25:20Yes, yes.
25:20And he's kind of like a Count of Monte Cristo.
25:23And Jon Hamm is still, you know,
25:26stealing from his friends and neighbors.
25:27Mm-hmm.
25:28Hasn't learned that lesson.
25:29You framed Jon Hamm's character last year.
25:31Yes.
25:31Uh-huh.
25:32I framed him for murder.
25:33Uh-huh.
25:35So dramatic.
25:36It happens.
25:36He was very mad.
25:39And, you know, people ask me a lot, like,
25:41how do I, how am I back in the second season?
25:44But I was like, you know, rich people have good lawyers.
25:46So, you know, it works out.
25:49And this is weird.
25:50I wonder if this was just a coincidence that you know James Marsden from back home in Oklahoma,
25:57right?
25:58So I grew up in Japan because I was a military family.
26:01Right.
26:01And then I moved back to Oklahoma at 16 years old, which is like the worst time to enter
26:06a new high school.
26:07Yes.
26:08And so I would walk through the halls and nobody would say hi.
26:11Everybody's already, you know, clicked up.
26:13And so I didn't have, one person asked to be my friend, but except for one.
26:18This girl named Jenny Marsden.
26:20And it's James's younger sister.
26:23And so she was like, my brother's on this CBS show.
26:26And like, I was like, oh my gosh.
26:28And like, it was just so, because I always wanted to be an actor.
26:30So to be close to someone who was close to someone who made it was like, oh, maybe this
26:34is like more tangible and real.
26:37And so we would hang out.
26:38And I remember he bought his mom a mattress and I went to help pick out the mattress.
26:42And I would hang out in his like childhood room and like go through his stuff.
26:47That's a solid move.
26:48Yeah.
26:48He comes home and buys his mom a mattress.
26:50Yes.
26:53What CBS show was he on at that time?
26:55It's called Second Noah.
26:56Oh.
26:56And you know, now that you mention it, this is back in the golden age where they would
26:59actually pay actors a lot.
27:01Yeah.
27:01So that's really.
27:02Like mattress money.
27:03Yeah.
27:03Like some serious, silly, posturepedic type money you would get.
27:07Yeah.
27:07Back then.
27:08Yeah.
27:08So then, you know, it's interesting because like how our, how it's all come back around.
27:13Like we're both in the X-Men universe.
27:15Oh, right.
27:16That's right.
27:17Yeah.
27:17And then when we had this character, Jonathan Tropper, our, the creator of our show was
27:21like, we want Marsden to, to like watch our show and, and consider being on it.
27:25And so he's like, do you know him by chance?
27:27I'm like, yeah, very well.
27:29So, um, I reached out to him and gave him the big like spiel.
27:32And then, um, I guess it worked.
27:35And you know, he's on the show.
27:36Nice.
27:37Nice.
27:37Yeah.
27:38And you're, well, I don't want to say anything.
27:39I don't want to hear anything.
27:41You and, uh, not Jon Hamm, but the other Jon, Jon Mullaney, do you guys know your neighbors?
27:46Or do you just like walk right into the house?
27:48No, no.
27:49Jon's a very neighborly guy.
27:51Yeah.
27:51Like, I did not know that when I married him.
27:53Like, he's very, like, he likes to go around and like, at our old house, he made friends
27:57with everybody.
27:58He's like, I'm going on a walk with Keiko.
27:59And then he's like, hey, Luis is bringing over a satchel of his lemons.
28:02It's like a satchel of lemons?
28:04Like, who are you?
28:05He's like, make sure you answer the door.
28:07And so, but we moved to this new neighborhood.
28:09And he has this other thing about him too, that I've learned about neighborhoods.
28:12He's like, very, like, neighborhood watch guy.
28:14Like, he wants to be on like, the HOA board.
28:16He wants to do all that.
28:17So we moved to this new neighborhood.
28:18And we had moved in.
28:20We have all of our stuff.
28:21And we're kind of going through it.
28:22So we start throwing stuff away.
28:25And our trash bins are in the driveway as we're throwing stuff away.
28:28And then one day, after the garbage trucks came and went, our trash bins were gone.
28:33Like, they were stolen.
28:35And it felt more dramatic than you guys are feeling for me right now.
28:40You'll get it.
28:41That's both more than one of them.
28:43All three of them.
28:44Oh, wow.
28:44Yeah.
28:45Because if one's gone, you figure it got broken and they just took it.
28:49Three trash.
28:50Three trash bins.
28:52So then we're like, I don't know what to do about this.
28:53So we buy more.
28:54We put them out there.
28:56Stolen again.
29:01So we're like, something's going on.
29:03Yeah.
29:04So we have our third set of trash bins.
29:08And now, we have this upstairs bedroom.
29:11And John wants to do a daytime watch.
29:14And he sits up there and just hangs out.
29:17And he had seen, at one point, these elderly people walk by.
29:22And at this point, our trash is over.
29:24And every time, it was overflowing.
29:25Because we had a lot of stuff.
29:26It was really overflowing.
29:27And they stop and they look.
29:29And they start pointing and talking.
29:30And John's like, this has got to be them.
29:33So he got air tags.
29:35And he duct taped them underneath our garbage bin.
29:38Smart.
29:39I like that.
29:40And they never came back.
29:42But instead, we got something in the mail.
29:44We got a letter and a photo from the HOA.
29:48And it was a photo of our driveway with all of our trash flowing out.
29:53And it was so shameful.
29:55Why did they send you?
29:57Just to shame you?
29:58They said, look, we have a policy in our HOA.
30:01If you look around to your other neighbors, nobody has their trash in the driveway.
30:05We want to keep it nice and tidy for the other neighbors.
30:07And a neighbor has sent us your photos.
30:10And we've gotten multiple complaints from your neighbors.
30:13I was, when I saw it, I was like, where are animals?
30:17Like this, it was, it was, you know, when you do it every day, you don't realize.
30:20But then they showed us a picture from across the street.
30:23And they're like.
30:24It was so embarrassing.
30:25There's a crock pot in there.
30:28There's beef stew.
30:31It was so embarrassing.
30:34Well, it sounds like you guys have some things to figure out.
30:36Yeah.
30:37We're not.
30:38We're not.
30:38Congratulations on the show.
30:40It's season two of your friends and neighbors.
30:42You can watch it on Apple TV April 1st.
30:46Olivia Munn, everybody.
30:47We'll be back with Leslie Odom Jr.
30:54This week on Jimmy Kimmel Live,
30:56Conan O'Brien, Will Forte, and Harrison Ford.
31:01Plus music from Nora Jones and Joshua Hameed.
31:13Hi, everyone.
31:15B.B. Rex is on the way.
31:17Our next guest is a Tony and Grammy winner who killed it and him in Hamilton.
31:21You can see him now alongside Kerry Washington and Elizabeth Moss in Imperfect Women.
31:26It premieres March 18th on Apple TV.
31:29Please welcome Leslie Odom Jr.
31:46Welcome, Malcolm.
31:47How are you?
31:48I'm so good.
31:49Very stylish here, you know?
31:51Oh, thank you, bro.
31:52I could never pull anything like that off.
31:54I really couldn't.
31:55No, you absolutely couldn't.
31:55The last time I did this, it was, you know, from my garage or whatever.
31:58That's right.
31:59It was during COVID, yeah.
32:00Yeah, this is better, right?
32:01This is better.
32:02Yeah.
32:03Welcome.
32:03Great to have you here.
32:04Thank you so much.
32:05And, you know, I've, of course, I've seen you.
32:07I've seen you in Hamilton.
32:08I was there.
32:08You know, I didn't identify myself.
32:10I was in the audience.
32:11But I heard you were going to do it in London now.
32:13I'm going to go back.
32:14Yeah, I'm going to London.
32:15Nice.
32:16It's summer.
32:19It's really, it's really dreamy.
32:21Like, the show that I did before Hamilton ran exactly two and a half weeks on Broadway.
32:27So the fact that I'm, you know, get to be a part of something that is this flashy and
32:32has made, you know, this kind of impact all over the world that there is a London company
32:36for me to join is just a dream.
32:38Do you remember your lines?
32:40Like, will you be able to walk right into it?
32:43I kind of remember them now because I did, I returned to the Broadway company in the fall.
32:47Okay.
32:48But that was, that was, it made me feel like I'd possibly made a mistake when I was trying
32:53to learn those lines again.
32:55Because the first time we did Hamilton, you know, it took over, like, two years.
32:59We learned it song by song.
33:01But I'd never been, like, handed the Bible.
33:04Like, I'd never been handed those 20,000 words and told I had to learn them all.
33:08It didn't just all come right back to you?
33:10It did not all come right back, no.
33:11I'm surprised by that.
33:13People kept telling me that it was going to be like riding a bike.
33:15I've been waiting for that bike for months.
33:20Is this your first time performing on stage in London?
33:24It is my first time.
33:25Oh, that'll be fun.
33:27Yeah.
33:30It's like a, no, for an actor, for a theater animal, which is basically what I am.
33:35You know, I've gotten to do these TV shows and movies and stuff, which is cool.
33:39But I'm a theater guy, you know.
33:41So to do something on Broadway, to do something on the West End, it's just like.
33:45You were in Grey's Anatomy back in like a long time ago, right?
33:51Yeah.
33:51How long ago was that?
33:52Oh, like 20 years.
33:5320 years, right?
33:54Yeah.
33:54And that was when that show was, I mean, still like a giant show, but it was like everyone
33:59in the whole country was watching it at that time.
34:01And Gilmore Girls, also.
34:03Dream jobs.
34:04That was your dream?
34:05Those were both dream jobs?
34:06Any job was a dream job.
34:08No, no, no, getting, coming out here after college, you know, I wanted to, if I was lucky,
34:15you know, I thought I would get to make a living, living my dreams.
34:18So to do television, the fact that my, that I could call my family around the country and
34:24tell them they could, they could turn on their TV at eight o'clock or nine o'clock and
34:28I would be on it.
34:29And they, I mean, you, you know what that's like.
34:31I, I.
34:31Yeah.
34:32I mean, I'm not on that early, but yeah.
34:35Wow.
34:35If you happen to wake up, turn on the TV, I might be on.
34:38Yeah.
34:39But it's, yeah, it's exciting, especially for your family.
34:41Like to see, you know, to see you doing something like that.
34:44What made you want to become an actor?
34:47You know, there was a, um, I, I didn't even really know what acting was.
34:53I didn't know that, that, that this stuff wasn't happening for real, you know?
34:58But I remember, uh, at, I was watching, uh, the thriller VHS with a cousin of mine.
35:04And, uh.
35:05Michael Jackson thrilling?
35:06That's it.
35:07Okay.
35:07All right.
35:08And after the credits rolled, you know, we're sweaty from having, you know, we just did,
35:11we did all the moves with Mike, you know what I mean?
35:14And after the credits rolled, there's this other thing that started, this like, so, you
35:19know, this black and white footage starts and it's them, they're not in the monster makeup.
35:23And they're in jeans and kind of t-shirts and, and, and we're in a dance studio while they're
35:29learning the choreography.
35:30Oh, the documentary that they've made about thriller, right?
35:33We're in the makeup trailer while they're putting the makeup.
35:35Yeah.
35:36It was like, it was my first peek into process.
35:38Oh.
35:39And it was really the first time that I learned that, you know, these are, these are people
35:44that are practicing and learning how to do this.
35:46And I, yeah, it was from then really that I, I, I stopped dreaming about being on stage
35:53as much as I was dreaming about being in that studio.
35:55Oh, wow.
35:56You know, I wanted to be a part of making it.
35:57Isn't it funny what makes you put it together?
35:59You go like, oh, right, I could do that maybe.
36:02It's wild.
36:03Yeah.
36:04And now you're doing it.
36:05You have this show with one of my favorite people, Kerry Washington.
36:08Yeah.
36:09And, and you guys play brother and sister?
36:13We do.
36:14That's why, that's why I said yes to the job.
36:16I mean, I'm sort of like Kerry's annoying little brother in, in life, you know?
36:20Oh, okay.
36:21When I, you know, so much so that like every, every couple of years, a big box of clothes,
36:27her daughter's a little older than our daughter.
36:28So a big box of clothes shows up, you know, hand me downs for our daughter to wear.
36:32Oh, wow.
36:33Yeah.
36:33That's, you know what?
36:34That's really, I think that's a big deal.
36:36It's a very big deal.
36:37Because you picked the person that you're closest to who has the kid of the perfect age
36:42descent.
36:43So that means you're on top of the heap.
36:45That's right.
36:46That's right.
36:47That was, that's the key to our friendship.
36:48That, and then.
36:49And does Kerry do that thing that my wife does all the time when you're, she sees your
36:53daughter in one of those outfits and goes, oh, that was her outfit.
36:56Yes.
36:56And like the whole thing.
36:57Yes, she does.
36:58And I just go, how do you remember these outfits that were in a box?
37:02She wears it proudly.
37:03Yeah.
37:04And you get to dress up in cool costumes in this show also, right?
37:08I do.
37:08Yes.
37:09Our, um, our costume designer is, is brilliant on this show.
37:12Apple's very, very, uh, they, they like nice clothes on Apple.
37:16So I got to wear all these custom suits.
37:18Mm-hmm.
37:18Yeah.
37:19Tiffany has one.
37:20Do you wear clothes off to a younger friend when they don't fit you anymore?
37:25Um, sure.
37:26Okay.
37:29Are you stealing?
37:30Is this your way of saying you're taking the clothes home?
37:32It's my way of saying I'm taking the clothes home.
37:33Okay.
37:34All right.
37:34You're welcome.
37:34You know what?
37:35They're tailored to you.
37:38It's great to have you here.
37:39Oh, my pleasure.
37:40Have fun in London.
37:41In the London version, do they win in Hamilton?
37:45Right.
37:47That's what, yeah, that's one of the changes.
37:49You have to think about that.
37:50They say, they say, pardon me, all you Aaron Bursa.
37:54Yeah.
37:55We do the whole thing on the other side of the road.

38:17Nightline is next, but first, her album, Dirty Blonde,
38:20comes out June 12th.
38:21Here with the song, New Religion, B.B. Rexha.
38:44Deep in the night, I heard a cry that brought me back to life.
38:49It sang to me a melody and I was hypnotized.
38:54With every note, it pulled me close until I kissed the sky.
38:58I found my purpose in the church that's filling me alive.
39:24I feel the beat, I feel the beat, it's like a new religion.
39:28Out on the floor, out on the floor, I found the inner rhythm.
39:32It lifts me up, it lifts me up, it's love with no condition.
39:36I found the music, all the music.
39:38My new religion.
39:42New religion.
39:45My new religion.
39:49New religion.
39:51I found the music, all the music.
39:53My new religion.
39:54Don't wanna leave, yeah, I believe I found a deeper meaning.
39:58I'm on the move, I'm in the mood, nothing can touch this feeling.
40:02Lost in the sound that's all around, I feel my body healing.
40:05I found the purpose in the church that's all around, I feel my body healing.
40:26I found the music, all the music.
40:29My new religion.
40:32I found the music, all the music.
40:33My new religion.
40:36My new religion.
40:40My new religion.
40:42My new religion.
40:42My new religion.
40:42I found the music, all the music.
40:44I found the music.
40:45I'm good to believe there was nothing for me.
40:48That nowhere was where I belonged
40:51Till I found my faith in a sacred place
40:56Forever is all that I want
41:03Jimmy Kimmel, how are you singing?
41:07I feel the beat, I feel the beat
41:10It's like a new religion
41:11Out on the floor, out on the floor
41:13I've found it in a river
41:15In the middle of the living room
41:17It's like a new nature
41:18I'm going to music, I'm going to music
41:21I'm going to music
41:25You're really good
41:33You're really good
41:34I feel the beat, I feel the beat
41:47Hmm.
41:48Hmm.
41:48Ah-ha-o-o-o-o.

41:52Da-da-da-da-da-da..
