00:00The pain and suffering is real as a Celtics fan watching this next Sixers series take place
00:06and I know Brad spoke yesterday but now you know what listen Brad we love you we think you've done
00:12an amazing job but it's time to put up a shut up you talk about the team that you built
00:16out there
00:16and the team that you want to build moving forward you look at this your team is too good to
00:23have
00:23first round and second round exits when you start to look at it and the reason why is you have
00:29too
00:29great superstars but sometimes you got to build a better team around those guys last year all right
00:38you built a good team and they didn't perform it the way that they wanted to perform and Tatum got
00:42hurt but this year I think going into it if you felt like there was any chance that this team
00:48wasn't be good wasn't going to be good you should have went straight tank mode from day one rather
00:53than saying you know what hey we think that this team might be all right and now you're a two
00:58seed
00:58and obviously you have no draft pick that's worth of any value but now it's time to put up a
01:05shut up
01:05and it's time to actually you have you're gonna have to spend money you're gonna have to ship some
01:09of these guys on um to other places and you're gonna have to go out there and really start factoring
01:15and I know Meggo brought up Bam out of Bayou I know I brought up Sabonis we all know about
01:21the
01:21Giannis you're gonna have to go out there and put a team out there that can't be getting bounced in
01:27the
01:27first and the second round and I don't want to hear about how you'd rather dunks over three pointers
01:32when when um when it comes to tanking he mentioned a lot yesterday that the league is gonna be that
01:38much better next season I thought that was really telling from Brad when he said yesterday that there
01:45were a lot of teams that were playing for draft position over this year and in a way I think
01:50that's
01:50his way of saying you know perhaps this regular season success hurts doubly because these other
01:59teams were putting themselves in a position where they're going for draft picks and we're doing great
02:03in the regular season but what does it matter when you're bounced in game seven against the
02:07and that goes back to what I said yesterday Jason Tatum may not be in a position like that
02:12with the east not being as down as it's been where you have an opportunity to gut through a painful
02:17calf or tightness in your knee to get to the next round against a Knicks team that is inferior to
02:21you
02:21and so you can't go back in time and Wiggs great lead I would just say I think it's almost
02:28more on
02:28Chisholm than it is on Brad Stevens like my guess is Brad didn't want to have to offload all those
02:34contracts last summer and if if they want to get back to where they've been they have to invest
02:39financially yeah and I would go ahead sorry well no go ahead answer and then no I was gonna say
02:44I
02:44would I completely agree with you yeah it is gonna be on Chisholm but I'm willing to bet Brad
02:49has his air if Brad's the basketball guy and Chisholm like you said is just the owner who comes in
02:54might not know that world then it really is about Brad having his air yep but they can do they
03:01have
03:01to get do they have to deal with the second apron in order to be the team that they need
03:06to be next
03:06season I don't think so it's just a matter of Wiggy and I talked about this a lot yesterday do
03:12you have
03:12assets on your roster that are attractive enough to other teams that you can go get a bam out of
03:18bio or does that go directly to starting to talk about parting with one of the J's like could you
03:24because the money would work if you sent Sam Hauser Derek White over to Miami with picks and got back
03:31bam out of bio but like Wiggy and I talked about I don't know if it was on air or
03:35off air yesterday
03:36Wiggy's like there's no way they're sending bam for that haul you're going to need to give more
03:42so to me it's like it's not even so much about they have so many trade exceptions they have so
03:47much room that they're in a good place financially to build the roster it just means like who are you
03:53parting with what does it actually look like because you're gonna have to probably do it through
03:56some and you're gonna have to build when you go get guys you might have to get the guys that
04:03excuse me excuse might be fringe all-star players or players that might have been an all-star a year
04:10or
04:10like when you see a guy like Paul George or um you see a guy like uh Tobias Harris in
04:17Detroit
04:17you might have to go get those type of players that Vucevic
04:22no Vucevic is a little long in the two but you might have to go get those type of players
04:26than being like oh okay Jordan Walls Ugo Gonzalez like you know the Scribino name is that you're hoping
04:33can excuse me put some respect on Ugo Gonzalez's name you like him that's a rookie yeah I mean but
04:39but I think the ceiling on Ugo is going to be high but you can laugh all you want all
04:44right two years
04:45from now you guys are going to be doing Ugo lead but I don't want to wait two years I
04:49want you to
04:49call me up we will okay call you up on that all right real quick um speaking of Brad he
04:54was asked
04:55yesterday I think it was uh Gary Washburn maybe oh it was Gary Washburn um asked why this team in
05:05the playoffs could not win at home um it was a bit of a word salad answer but here's what
05:12Brad
05:12Stevens said yesterday human nature is human nature for a reason we win game one you know and played
05:18pretty well and then we did not play well in game two and it goes back one one you know
05:23it doesn't
05:23matter how much you win by in these series they all count as one but you go back to our
05:27championship
05:27year and we did that in the Miami series and the Cleveland series with a very experienced good team
05:33and so to me it is somewhat prosperity within the game and being able to in those moments be even
05:42more
05:42dialed in and locked in and recognize that we could have played better in game seven we could have played
05:47better on the road in game six we had a chance to close that out in game five those are
05:51things we got
05:51to get better with and um I don't think we're the only team I think there's a lot of teams
05:55with
05:55how many teams shoot as well as they shoot that deal with that but I but I don't think we
06:00should
06:00ignore it in a lot of those cases I think for whatever reason we slowed down if you take your
06:06foot
06:06off the gas at any point it's going to come back to bite you so taking your well he he
06:12it was a long
06:13answer he but does this team lack skill wise the Jays are fantastic that's nothing about their skill
06:22does it lack a leader who is going to be able to say that leader personality that is going to
06:29be like
06:30guys we're playing we're on the parquet and we're up one nothing in this series where uh we're going
06:36back to Boston where we are not going to leave that building without a win I don't know that that
06:42Jason Tatum is maybe not that guy the way he vocally expresses himself can you get that in the
06:48whoever you're going to add to this team can you get somebody who is more of a leader do they
06:52need
06:52that so I think and Meggo you correct me because you are around that team I have never been in
06:57the
06:57Celtics locker room the the presence of Al Horford and the way in which he was sort of the bridge
07:03between Tatum and Brown because he would always sit next to Tatum on the flights and Horford was
07:09someone that everybody had to respect just his presence who he was how he carried himself on and
07:15off the floor I think neither are really the leader that you would want like because I think Jalen takes
07:21everything so personally and Jason Tatum is just not outwardly uh emotive in that way so I don't yeah I
07:27think they do need a leader see I don't think it's uh go ahead Meggo I'm sorry oh I was
07:30just gonna say
07:31specifically to what Brad was talking about sounds to me like there is a habit that we've seen of them
07:37saying when they're in a position to win early they go it's okay we're good enough to figure it
07:43out later right instead of saying right now game five lock it down end it here isn't that Missoula
07:49then they have well they have seen in in the past when they have I'm so sick of people using
07:55the term
07:56played with their food yeah well that's what they do they've effed around and found out Greg just goes
08:03right to the gullet in the past they've been able to get away with it right no times no now
08:09and now in
08:10in these last couple years it has really come to bite them aside from the championship year and so
08:17I think what Brad's saying there is like that habit's gotta go right and so somebody in the locker
08:23room that we build next year is gonna have to be the person who says it's game five we're closing
08:28it out here we're not going back on the road we're not doing this and I don't think it's either
08:32one
08:32of those guys it's not either one of the J's I don't think it's not a leadership thing but even
08:37when
08:37Al Horford was here there there was still that sensibility and I don't know where that comes it's
08:42not the leadership thing because you did it last year with Al Horford there were two games you're up
08:46by 20 what he said is this we take our foot off the gas and the reason why you take
08:51your foot off
08:51the gas is because you built a team that when you're up 11 you're up 15 you're up 20 rather
08:58than
08:59just take the easy buckets or get the ball into the paint or play the game within the game and
09:04stay
09:04focused you want to try to go up from 11 you want the lead to get to 30 when you're
09:09up 20 you want to
09:10get it to 50 because you're hawking up threes you take your foot off the gas because you are
09:15dependent on oh we can rain three pointers down all day long and that's what we've seen happen
09:22especially in second halves of the game how many times have we talked about this team blowing double
09:27digit leads in the second half it ain't got nothing to do with leadership because you did it with Al
09:32Horford it's because you guys want to go out there and say hey we're up 11 let's try to get
09:38this thing
09:39up to 25 by just launching threes that's what it is and part of that leadership is yes some of
09:45those
09:45guys in the locker room saying we got to stop shooting those threes it's on the coach but it's
09:49also on you brad to not build a team that everybody the only thing they could do and do at
09:56a pretty
09:57decent rate is shoot threes but if you have a coach that's a jiu-jitsu master what's the point if
10:01he's
10:01not going to teach you to step on somebody's throat but the problem the curtis the problem is him the
10:06problem is they have nobody that can score inside the three-point line i don't care joe mazula could
10:12beat you up with his knuckles you know if you're trying to tell sam hauser and derrick white to do
10:16things that they don't do yeah and i give you and payton pritchard's the same way like all right yeah
10:21he can get into pain every now and then but you're asking guys to do something that they don't normally
10:25do
