00:00:10I guess you wouldn't know it from what I wear, but my name is Alex.
00:00:20I live in the metropolis of West Appleton. It's a nice town and I've got great friends here.
00:00:37That's Ken, Elisa, Delia, and me, coming out of Nancy's old-fashioned dining room.
00:00:47There's Ken, the music guru. He loves all kinds of tunes, as long as they're at least 50 years old.
00:00:54This is the very stylish Elisa, queen of the poodle skirt and bobby socks.
00:00:58But don't let those clothes fool you. She's a great bowler.
00:01:02Last but not least is Delia. She makes up in brains what she lacks in bowling brawn.
00:01:13After breakfast, we head down to my dad's bowling alley.
00:01:15I've got the keys to the joint. So in the morning, we crank up those swinging tunes and roll a
00:01:20few frames to start our day. Sweet, huh?
00:01:28I love the smell of rental shoes in the morning. This is the way the world should be all the
00:01:34time.
00:01:39But then there's school.
00:01:49You see, Todd Malcolmor, you know, the one with the winning smile. This is his world. The world of serious
00:01:56athletics. The world I'll never understand.
00:01:59And you gotta figure, it's always gonna be that way. The biggest thing in Todd's charm life right now is
00:02:03a big hunk of metal called the Mighty Apple Trophy.
00:02:06Which is only interesting to me because it slightly resembles a bowling ball.
00:02:10If Macklemore can lead the Mighty West Appletonians to victory in basketball, we will tie up the fight for the
00:02:15Mighty Apple.
00:02:24It's simple. We win tonight and the battle for the Mighty Apple is all tied up.
00:02:37But if we lose tonight, the trophy goes to East Appleton forever.
00:02:44Forever.
00:02:45What do you think?
00:02:51We are gonna win tonight and tie up the battle for the Apple. What do you think?
00:03:00Ten to one odds the Golden Boy blesses us with a speech. I don't know, Alex. Spotlight, people cheering. Except
00:03:06the Golden Boy hated attention.
00:03:14We're gonna win tonight. I promise I won't let you down. So see y'all at the game.
00:03:22How would Todd Macklemore's world and mine ever collide? I just don't see it.
00:03:33I'm gonna be late tonight. I gotta do the game with my dad or I'll be disowned. But I'll sneak
00:03:37away early.
00:03:38We'll be waiting, Slim.
00:03:39Hey, it's the strange dudes. Yes, the strange dudes. Hey, you coming to the game, strange dudes?
00:03:44Why would you want us to take up seats when there are so many people who really, really want to
00:03:48go?
00:03:50Where's your school spirit?
00:03:52Oh, mine's in a box in my locker. Where's yours?
00:03:55Wouldn't you like to know?
00:03:56Come on, guys. Don't waste your breath.
00:03:59Too cool for us? Huh?
00:04:01Maybe I should whoop you in some basketball to show you a thing or two, huh?
00:04:05Excuse me. You, me, one game of force.
00:04:09You're kidding, right?
00:04:10I reckon my jumpers at 48 degrees launch with 14 pounds of force.
00:04:14I bake most of my shots off the backboard using a simple formula of tangent x times cosine y,
00:04:19where x and y relate to the height and angle of my initial shot.
00:04:22Using the backboards as a matrix, of course.
00:04:24And if you accept my challenge, Mr. Smart Mouth, you would lose to a little girl. Am I right?
00:04:31You're right.
00:04:33Come on, Leo. It's not worth your time. Come on.
00:04:35I could beat her. I know.
00:04:37I could, you know.
00:04:37I know.
00:04:42Delia, have you ever shot at basketball?
00:04:44Wouldn't you like to know?
00:04:48Well, inbounds to McLemore.
00:04:50McLemore bringing it up court.
00:04:51Between the legs dribble over half court.
00:04:53Into the high post.
00:04:55Give and go to McLemore!
00:04:56Oh, my! Easy deuce for McLemore!
00:05:03McLemore!
00:05:04There is no bigger fan in the stands than his proud father, West Appleton Mayor, Jeff McLemore.
00:05:12He's coming back. Perimeter passing. Round the outside.
00:05:18Shots low-good.
00:05:21McLemore coming back with the ball.
00:05:24Going in for the hoop.
00:05:27Easy layup for Todd McLemore!
00:05:35Folks, Todd McLemore is playing huge for the Wildcats today.
00:05:41McLemore with a steal.
00:05:42Driving to the hoop.
00:05:43And he lays it over a bucket of West Appleton.
00:05:48Oh, my!
00:05:48Sweet Lou is the heart and soul of Appleton sports.
00:05:51This guy could get excited over a spitting contest.
00:05:54As long as the East and West were involved.
00:05:57This place is going crazy.
00:05:59East Appleton back now.
00:06:01East just in with two points now.
00:06:03West bringing the ball back.
00:06:04East!
00:06:06East!
00:06:06East!
00:06:08East!
00:06:09Wow!
00:06:10Halftime here, and folks, I can just feel the thrill!
00:06:14I know you can feel it where you are too.
00:06:16How could you not be excited with West Appleton fighting for the mighty Apple one last time?
00:06:22Ha, I love it!
00:06:23A West win tonight, of course, ties up the battle with no more scheduled events.
00:06:28There are tie-breaking procedures in the Mighty Apple Charter,
00:06:32but since there's never been a tie,
00:06:34I've got no idea what they are.
00:06:37And if the West doesn't win, I'll never know.
00:06:40Going into halftime, and West Appleton trails by six.
00:06:45This is Sweet Lou on...
00:06:48Mr. Thompson, do you think you could turn that off now?
00:06:50Oh, come on.
00:06:52Forgive an old man his town spirit.
00:06:55Well, in that case...
00:06:59Blessed Quiet, now I can bowl.
00:07:02That remains to be seen.
00:07:12Nice shot.
00:07:14Come on, Alex, I want to practice on getting strikes, not spares.
00:07:17Ten in a row is enough.
00:07:18Fair enough. I'll press the reset button.
00:07:23Dad, the reset button's broken again.
00:07:25Oh, what, again?
00:07:27There's no money in the repair fund, Alex.
00:07:30Better work your magic back there.
00:07:32You think we get no crowds because the alley's falling apart?
00:07:35Or is the alley falling apart because we get no crowds?
00:07:38I don't know, pal.
00:07:41I'm wide open on ideas to get the folks in here.
00:07:43But until that happens, your mechanical genius is what we need.
00:07:47Hey, cool cats.
00:07:48Hey, cool cats.
00:07:48What's happening?
00:07:50Oh, hey.
00:07:51I thought for a second we might have had a paying customer.
00:07:53Are you kidding, Mr. T?
00:07:55Everybody's at the game.
00:07:56Oh.
00:07:56Would you put this in?
00:07:57It helps me bowl.
00:08:01Swinging hepcats.
00:08:05All right, who are you, kids?
00:08:06Where do you come from?
00:08:13Wow!
00:08:15West Appleton timeout!
00:08:16East Appleton leads by one point with three seconds left!
00:08:20Have mercy, I beg ya!
00:08:21Wow, West is gonna get the ball with time for one last shot.
00:08:25Now, you gotta think that Todd Macklemore's gonna get the ball,
00:08:28but the East has gotta be thinking that, too!
00:08:30All right, now, they're gonna have you triple team, Todd,
00:08:32so we should think about somebody else...
00:08:33Give me the ball.
00:08:34I'll be open, though.
00:08:35Give me the ball.
00:08:36Hello, Mayor Macklemore.
00:08:38Oh, Mayor Hamburger.
00:08:39Yeah, looks like the Mighty Apple's coming home to me in East Appleton.
00:08:42Yeah, well, don't be so sure.
00:08:43Let's not pick an optimistic parent for a second and look at the scoreboard.
00:08:47Well, Todd thrives under the pressure.
00:08:50All right, one, two, three!
00:08:52West!
00:08:52Come on, team!
00:08:53Oh, come down!
00:08:54And this one's unbelievable!
00:08:56Hands up out there!
00:08:57Ball goes in to flip Willett!
00:08:59Willett bringing it up!
00:09:00McGlemore cutting it up!
00:09:01A pick takes the ball!
00:09:02Jumps!
00:09:03Shoots!
00:09:04Oh!
00:09:05Yes!
00:09:07Yes!
00:09:08Yes!
00:09:09Yes!
00:09:09Yes!
00:09:09West Appleton wins!
00:09:23West Appleton wins!
00:09:25West Appleton wins!
00:09:26West Appleton wins!
00:09:28Yippee!
00:09:30Oh, guys, come on!
00:09:32Guys, this is the last year of the Mighty Apple.
00:09:34We want to keep it in this town, right?
00:09:36Right?
00:09:37I mean, it's...
00:09:38It's...
00:09:39a true that binds us West Appletonians together!
00:09:41Yes, it does!
00:09:43It's a silly trophy, Dad.
00:09:45Oh, yeah, I know, but I mean, it has meaning!
00:09:48I mean, it proves that we can all...
00:09:50all strive for what we want, right?
00:09:54Huh?
00:09:54I mean, it proves that we can all...
00:09:56all unite for a common good!
00:10:00Oh, my gosh, my heart!
00:10:02What?
00:10:03Oh!
00:10:04I mean, I played for it!
00:10:07I was proud!
00:10:17Oh, boy.
00:10:21Well, anything that makes a big shot out of a kid like Todd Macklemore is not a good thing at
00:10:25all.
00:10:26I know.
00:10:26I just don't know why everyone cares so much about it.
00:10:28Talk to my dad, you'll understand.
00:10:30He played for that trophy.
00:10:32He reminds me about it every day.
00:10:34Twice a day.
00:10:35Whether I need to hear it or not.
00:10:36The mighty apple is ugly.
00:10:38Okay, guys.
00:10:39One more game.
00:10:39Winner pays.
00:10:40But you always win.
00:10:42And your dad doesn't charge you.
00:10:43Nice arrangement, huh?
00:10:50Yeah.
00:10:51It's all tied up, Jeff.
00:10:53Fun, huh?
00:10:54Well, check the charter for the tiebreaker tomorrow, Mayor, but the momentum is ours.
00:11:01He knows something.
00:11:02I can tell.
00:11:04Hey, now that was a fantastic finish, huh?
00:11:07Sweet Lou wants to interview you tomorrow, and I've set up a meeting with Appleton News again.
00:11:11It'll be just like when you won the baseball championship with that homer.
00:11:15Homer.
00:11:17Maybe I'll call around and see if we can get some regional coverage.
00:11:20Whatever, but let's go home.
00:11:21And beach.
00:11:22Oh, I am so proud of you.
00:11:24Thanks, Mom.
00:11:25Last ball in the 10th frame, and Alex Thompson needs a strike to win the U.S. Bowling Open.
00:11:32Good release.
00:11:33Steady and true.
00:11:38See?
00:11:39I can make the big shot, too.
00:11:40Maybe you'll turn pro one day.
00:11:42Nah.
00:11:43Not interested, thanks.
00:11:45Come on, champ.
00:11:46Let's go home.
00:11:49I got my love of bowling from my dad.
00:11:51But sometimes love and money don't go hand in hand.
00:11:55I would be really sad if we had to close the place.
00:11:58Nobody seems to want to bowl anymore.
00:12:00Hey, what's up?
00:12:01What's up?
00:12:02What's up?
00:12:02All right, Todd.
00:12:03Come on, it was nothing, it was nothing.
00:12:05All right.
00:12:06Thank you, thank you.
00:12:07Thank you very much.
00:12:07Hey, Todd.
00:12:08You were so great last night.
00:12:10We've been talking about you all day.
00:12:12Yeah?
00:12:14So, are you coming to my party?
00:12:16Wouldn't miss it.
00:12:17We'll be there.
00:12:17No doubt, man.
00:12:19Great.
00:12:20See you there?
00:12:20Definitely.
00:12:25Ah, Mr. Morris.
00:12:26So, what's gonna happen to the Mighty Apple since we ended up tied?
00:12:29We're not gonna be tied for long.
00:12:31Are they finally gonna throw out the girls' cross-country score?
00:12:34Those slimy East Appleton people.
00:12:36They called.
00:12:38They spoke.
00:12:39And what did they say?
00:12:43Bowling.
00:12:49Can't get away with this.
00:12:51We'll sue the East.
00:12:52We'll sue them.
00:12:53It's only a trophy, Jeff.
00:12:56After all of Todd's hard work this year, we're gonna lose the Mighty Apple because of bowling?
00:12:59I can't allow it.
00:13:00You saw the charter.
00:13:01Both schools have bowling clubs, and bowling is the only tiebreaker listed where we both have teams.
00:13:06We have no choice.
00:13:07All right.
00:13:08We'll hold tryouts.
00:13:09We'll load the team with talent.
00:13:10No tryouts.
00:13:11We have to field our team based on who signed up for bowling club at the beginning of the year.
00:13:15Oh, man.
00:13:15On the plus side.
00:13:16We won the coin toss, and we get home alley advantage.
00:13:20Anyway, maybe the team will be good.
00:13:22Oh, yeah, right.
00:13:23Think of our alley.
00:13:24Think of Kevin Thompson for P-6.
00:13:25And then ask yourself.
00:13:26What type of losers are members of the bowling club?
00:13:33Tough.
00:13:40Why does it matter who else signed up for bowling club?
00:13:43We're the only ones who ever show up.
00:13:45That club list is here somewhere.
00:13:47You guys don't think we can beat the East.
00:13:50Is that what's going on?
00:13:51We never said that.
00:13:52We simply wish to explore and find out all the options.
00:13:55Mr. Morris, we're good.
00:14:00Oh, hurrah, hurrah, and yay.
00:14:04There's a fifth bowler.
00:14:06Todd McElmore's on the list.
00:14:11Weepy.
00:14:12Hurrah.
00:14:13Golden boys in the bowling club?
00:14:15I'm in bowling club?
00:14:17You signed up at the beginning of the year, Todd.
00:14:19Have you forgotten?
00:14:21I'm in bowling club?
00:14:23This is fantastic and good news.
00:14:25Maybe we can beat East Appleton after all, huh?
00:14:30I'm in bowling club?
00:14:33Flip made me sign you up, man.
00:14:35He made me.
00:14:36It was Leo's idea.
00:14:37Honest.
00:14:38Stop!
00:14:53You know, this is great news, Alex.
00:14:55This is not great news.
00:14:56Well, your mom and her dad think it is.
00:14:59You know Grandpa might be out of the hospital in time
00:15:01for them both to make it back for the match.
00:15:03Plus, it could be big things for the alley here.
00:15:05But I like bowling because it isn't the next big thing.
00:15:08Never has been and never will be.
00:15:11When I was your age, bowling was the thing to do.
00:15:13It's only cool to you now, my friend,
00:15:15because it was cool to us then.
00:15:27I guess so.
00:15:29If it's good for the alley, then fine.
00:15:31Come on.
00:15:36Sweet Lou back on the air here at WWAP with Todd McLemore.
00:15:40Todd, it appears you have no time to rest on your laurels.
00:15:44The mighty apple is going to go to the town whose school bowls best.
00:15:48Athletics scored the victories in basketball, baseball, tennis, football, and track.
00:15:52I don't see why bowling will be any different.
00:15:54Okay.
00:15:55Spoken like a true competitor.
00:15:56But let me ask you.
00:15:58Can you bowl?
00:15:59Do you bowl?
00:16:01Have you bowled?
00:16:02Come on, sweet Lou.
00:16:03Everyone bowls.
00:16:05I can do this.
00:16:06Trust me.
00:16:15Good job, Alex.
00:16:16Another one?
00:16:18You've got to be kidding me.
00:16:20That looks pretty good there, Jeff.
00:16:22Think your son can keep up?
00:16:24Oh, we McLemores have a long history of rising to the challenge.
00:16:27Unlike some people I know, mister.
00:16:29Oops, I dropped the ball.
00:16:31It was a bad throw.
00:16:34Do you know what they're talking about?
00:16:35I don't.
00:16:36Every time my dad and the mayor get together, I get a weird vibe.
00:16:39Like something major happened to the two in the past.
00:16:42But you can't ask them what happened.
00:16:44They never want to talk about it.
00:16:46Oh, well.
00:16:46Anyway.
00:16:48Come on, Todd.
00:16:48Show us what you got.
00:17:07Way to go, Todd!
00:17:12I guess our principal is easily impressed.
00:17:15Yeah.
00:17:16Hey.
00:17:17You guys bowl strikes every time?
00:17:19No, we're not that good.
00:17:21I didn't think so.
00:17:22Ten frames with all strikes is a perfect game.
00:17:24It's pretty rare, like hitting three homers in a baseball game.
00:17:27That's it?
00:17:28And by the time we're done, I guarantee you, I'll have bowled the 100.
00:17:32Woo!
00:17:35100.
00:17:36Hey, don't laugh at me.
00:17:37You know I'm going to be that good.
00:17:39A perfect game is a 300, Slick, not 100.
00:17:42That's like hitting a single.
00:17:43But you just said...
00:17:44Look, a strike score is 10 plus the next two balls you roll.
00:17:47So you could score 30 points, see?
00:17:48Think baseball.
00:17:49Three strikes.
00:17:50A spare is 10 plus the next ball you roll.
00:17:52So if I said, hey, you got a spare ball, strike three, spare two,
00:17:55that's how come 100 is nothing too special.
00:17:57Got it?
00:18:00Whatever.
00:18:01I just need some practice.
00:18:06Wow.
00:18:07Things are going well.
00:18:17He has no form, no style.
00:18:20I think he was nervous.
00:18:21Just give him a chance.
00:18:23Yeah, like he'll give us one.
00:18:27Hey, hey, hey, my favorite customers.
00:18:30Hey, Nancy, can you get the usual?
00:18:31I'm way ahead of you.
00:18:34Come on, eat up.
00:18:35You're going to need your strength to win the mighty apple.
00:18:38Well, I thought the golden boy only mattered.
00:18:41That's what everybody else is saying.
00:18:42Yeah, well, some people say that.
00:18:44And some people say the moon's made of cheese.
00:18:46It doesn't make it true.
00:18:47The moon's not made of cheese?
00:18:48Yeah, well, it just goes to show you
00:18:50you can learn something new from everyone.
00:18:54Hey, good afternoon, ladies.
00:18:57Come here, Todd.
00:19:00Hey, Todd, you know that Alex kid?
00:19:02What's with those clothes?
00:19:04I heard he found them at the back of a bowling alley.
00:19:06Yeah?
00:19:06Well, I hear he's a great bowler.
00:19:08Is that true?
00:19:09Hey, bowling's not so hard, okay?
00:19:11Just leave it alone.
00:19:11What are you going to do?
00:19:13You're going to quit?
00:19:14Quit?
00:19:15No way.
00:19:16If we lose this, nothing else matters.
00:19:18So I'm going to teach those guys how to bowl and triumph.
00:19:21But it'll still be bowling.
00:19:23Hey, I'm going to work on that.
00:19:24But I promise you, I'm going to win us the apples.
00:19:27Of course.
00:19:32So the mighty apples fate is up to us.
00:19:34You got to admit, it's pretty funny.
00:19:36No kidding.
00:19:38Maybe this will make people care for bowling and have to save the alley?
00:19:41Yeah, I hope so.
00:19:42I mean, sometimes I think the only reason your dad keeps it open
00:19:45is because you, me, Ken, and Delia love bowling so much.
00:19:48Don't let him fool you.
00:19:50He loves it, too.
00:19:51He's got me and mom to think about.
00:19:53And he's going to sell the alley.
00:19:54Unless, you know.
00:19:56Man, I'm already nervous.
00:19:58I mean, we're bowling for the mighty apple.
00:20:00Mighty apple, shmighty apple.
00:20:03How can it not be fun if we're bowling together?
00:20:05Yeah, it's true.
00:20:05I mean, we'll probably be talking about it forever.
00:20:07We'll be legends.
00:20:09At least to each other, anyway.
00:20:14Yeah.
00:20:14Yeah.
00:20:15All right, yeah.
00:20:16That is going to be cool, man.
00:20:17Yeah.
00:20:21All right, guys, I'm going.
00:20:22Later, Leo.
00:20:23Later, Flip.
00:20:23See ya.
00:20:33Good evening, Dad.
00:20:35So, Todd, how's the bowling team?
00:20:37Better now that I'm on it.
00:20:38Well, Todd, everything's going to change next year when our schools combine with East Appleton.
00:20:41Whoever wins the mighty apple this year will keep it forever.
00:20:44Yeah, I know.
00:20:45We already cleared a place out for it in City Hall.
00:20:47It's our legacy.
00:20:49What do you want me to say, Dad?
00:20:50Will I ever let you down?
00:20:52No, son, you don't.
00:21:01Yeah, Mayor Hamburger.
00:21:03Jeff McLemore here.
00:21:05Yeah.
00:21:05You want to make this bowling match a little more interesting?
00:21:08Well, if you win, we'll give you 40 gallons of our best apple cider.
00:21:12Yeah, the pride of West Appleton.
00:21:14And if we win, you give us 40 East Appleton apple pies.
00:21:17Deal?
00:21:19Great.
00:21:20I can taste those pies already.
00:21:22Uh-huh.
00:21:22Bye.
00:21:23The apple is coming to the West.
00:21:34Yeah!
00:21:35Yeah!
00:21:36That's the way!
00:21:37Yeah!
00:21:37The apple is coming to the East.
00:21:39Yeah!
00:21:39Great strike!
00:21:40Here we go!
00:21:45Hey, Todd.
00:21:51Hey, Mark.
00:21:52So, how's the bowling thing going?
00:21:54Okay.
00:21:55I hear Alex is a really good bowler.
00:21:58Maybe the two of you could win as the apple?
00:22:00Maybe.
00:22:01But I'll tell you what.
00:22:02My teammates don't care about the apple.
00:22:04They don't care about winning.
00:22:05That's because they've never been winners.
00:22:07Got that right.
00:22:08I'm sure you'll teach them, Todd.
00:22:09I'm going to throw it out of my mind.
00:22:12Everything I know it's you.
00:22:14Two fools.
00:22:19Ah!
00:22:20Missed it by that much.
00:22:21Great torque, though.
00:22:40Great torque, Todd.
00:23:02I think you're doing better.
00:23:03Soon you learn you don't have to throw the ball so hard.
00:23:06It took me a long time to learn that.
00:23:08I just need practice.
00:23:09I told you that.
00:23:12Well, maybe you'll see that the ball follows your thumb.
00:23:14If it's pointing straight after you let go of the ball,
00:23:17the ball's going straight.
00:23:18Whatever.
00:23:35See ya.
00:23:41She was trying to teach you, you know.
00:23:43Duh!
00:23:43You think I'm an idiot?
00:23:45Nah.
00:23:46You're the golden boy.
00:23:47Smart, talented, and perfect.
00:23:49Uh, gifted, too.
00:23:50You forgot gifted.
00:23:52Actually, the way I hear it,
00:23:54you're Mark McGuire, John Elway, and Michael Jordan,
00:23:57all ruled into one.
00:23:58You forgot Tiger Woods and Wayne Gretzky.
00:24:00But you're no guppy troop.
00:24:03Guppy troop?
00:24:04He's in the Professional Bowler's Hall of Fame.
00:24:08Anyway, the way I hear it,
00:24:10you're the best bowler in the town.
00:24:12The town, the county, and the entire country.
00:24:16Yeah, I heard that one, too.
00:24:17Is that true?
00:24:18Not yet.
00:24:20But then again, I bet it took Guppy a little time to learn to swim.
00:24:26You know what I hear?
00:24:29I hear you're just this strange kid who's obsessed with bowling,
00:24:33hates all the sports and dresses like you found you.
00:24:35Mike, I found my clothes in the back of the bowling alley.
00:24:37Yeah, I heard that one, too.
00:24:39Is it true?
00:24:42Look, I love bowling.
00:24:43I don't like many other sports,
00:24:44and it's a lie that I found my clothes in the back of the bowling alley.
00:24:47That's a lie?
00:24:48Yeah, I found my clothes in a catalogue
00:24:50that I found at the back of the bowling alley.
00:24:55Whatever.
00:25:09Oh, sweet. Check out those shoes.
00:25:11Maybe we can find them when we go practice.
00:25:14I am?
00:25:14What's with that music?
00:25:16That's good music.
00:25:18Haven't you ever heard of Backstreet Boys, Savage Garden Aerosmith?
00:25:21Haven't you ever heard of Keeley Smith,
00:25:23Louis Prima, Sergio Mendez?
00:25:28So why are we having practice here?
00:25:30Come here, just take a look.
00:25:37Oh, I'm real impressed. Computer bowling?
00:25:39Wow.
00:25:40Strength plus finesse beats sheer speed every time.
00:25:43You know you could learn something from that?
00:25:45It's a computer, guys. It's not real.
00:25:50Hello, people.
00:25:51Don't you know that we have less than four weeks
00:25:53to be ready to beat East Appleton?
00:25:55You're saying we need work,
00:25:56or you're saying you need work?
00:25:57Well, I'll be ready.
00:25:58I'm just worried about you guys.
00:26:00You guys need an attitude check.
00:26:01We need one?
00:26:02Yeah, you gotta wanna win.
00:26:04I'm not saying that.
00:26:05It can give your team the advantage.
00:26:06You know, I always thought that bowling well
00:26:08gives your team the advantage.
00:26:10Hey, funny guy.
00:26:12Yeah.
00:26:13Attitude matters.
00:26:15And I'm sure the East is doing everything they can to get an edge.
00:26:17An edge? Slick?
00:26:19This is bowling.
00:26:20What can they do?
00:26:30Hi there, Coach.
00:26:32Welcome.
00:26:48Hey, Todd, wait up.
00:26:50What's going on, you guys?
00:26:51I've been watching you bowl, and I think I can help you.
00:26:53It's up to you if you wanna listen.
00:26:55Really?
00:26:56And what's in it for you?
00:26:57Are you joking?
00:26:58I thought you might wanna win.
00:27:00And I don't know, maybe if you get excited, other people will too,
00:27:03and my dad can save his alley.
00:27:06Look, teach me how to bowl, and I'll bring you a launch party night.
00:27:10Look, I don't need pity or party invites.
00:27:13If you want me to help you bowl, just ask.
00:27:15We're teammates, right?
00:27:16Forget about it, man.
00:27:17I thought you might have fun.
00:27:20Hey, Todd.
00:27:22Hey.
00:27:25Um, Alex, right?
00:27:29You're coming to my party, right?
00:27:30Uh-huh.
00:27:33Alex?
00:27:34Thanks, Lauren.
00:27:36I'd love to.
00:27:38Great.
00:27:39So, um, I'll see you guys there?
00:27:40Mm-hmm.
00:27:46So, you wanna learn to bowl?
00:27:48Oh, you're just loving this, aren't you?
00:27:51Fine.
00:27:51Let's try it.
00:27:53Step one.
00:27:54It's you.
00:27:57Dork.
00:27:59Dirk.
00:27:59Same thing.
00:28:01Why do you guys dress so weird?
00:28:02We don't dress weird.
00:28:05You guys dress weird.
00:28:07Whatever.
00:28:07I'm not wearing that.
00:28:09You failed less than one.
00:28:11I don't care.
00:28:13Can we bowl, please?
00:28:14Tomorrow.
00:28:15There's a big party tonight.
00:28:16Tonight's party, party, ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
00:28:27-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
00:28:32-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
00:28:34-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
00:28:35-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
00:28:36-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
00:28:47Well, of course we are. Todd's on the case.
00:28:55I hope he helps us win the apple, Todd. He sure doesn't fit the part.
00:29:00Well, who knows? Maybe do Alex some good hanging with us.
00:29:16I don't really feel like pushing. Nothing short of a red line.
00:29:22The spots I now call my crew, cause they know I got to make sure it's smooth.
00:29:30Press to impress somebody.
00:29:31So, having fun?
00:29:33Oh, sure. All right. Todd says you're the best bowler in town. Is that true?
00:29:38Uh, maybe.
00:29:40And you're gonna make East Appleton look like a bunch of losers, aren't you?
00:29:43Uh, no question.
00:29:46You're all right!
00:29:49Good to have Bubba on your side.
00:29:51Nope.
00:29:52Todd says the mighty apple's up to the two of you.
00:29:54If you both do well, you're gonna be heroes.
00:29:57Todd would know. He already is a hero.
00:30:00You wanna dance, Todd?
00:30:01I'll dance.
00:30:02Nah, maybe later.
00:30:06You wanna dance, Alex?
00:30:08Oh, I don't really know how to dance to this.
00:30:11I'll dance.
00:30:12Whoa, look at the time. I gotta go.
00:30:16Come on, it's 8.30.
00:30:18Next time, okay?
00:30:19Thanks for inviting me to your party, Lauren.
00:30:21Friends of Todd's are always welcome.
00:30:24Yeah?
00:30:25Yeah.
00:30:32Good night, Bowling Dude!
00:30:34Hey!
00:30:36Let's go!
00:30:38Let's dance!
00:30:39Let's go!
00:30:41Let's go!
00:30:42Let's go!
00:30:44Let's go!
00:30:57Let's go!
00:31:05Let's go!
00:31:06Let's go!
00:31:13Hey!
00:31:13What are you doing here?
00:31:15Uh, you know, late errands and stuff.
00:31:19Okay, that's not exactly true.
00:31:21I went to Lauren's party.
00:31:23Cheerleader, Todd's friend.
00:31:25Oh!
00:31:26Oh, my gosh!
00:31:27Wait a second.
00:31:28So, you and the Golden Boy were at the same party.
00:31:31Did you know any of the other people there?
00:31:34Not really.
00:31:35Unless you can't flip on Leo's real people.
00:31:38I'm not gonna lose you to that whole crowd, am I?
00:31:41Don't sweat it.
00:31:42It was just one party.
00:31:44Hey, what you got there?
00:31:47220, that's fantastic.
00:31:49Thanks.
00:31:49I was gonna pin it to your front door.
00:31:51Sorry I missed it.
00:31:52Hey, I promise I'll be there when you bowl 300.
00:31:54Deal.
00:31:55All right.
00:32:23You got talent, but your footwork's terrible.
00:32:26I feel like that matters.
00:32:28You're right.
00:32:28I don't know what I'm saying.
00:32:30Keep doing it your way.
00:32:31Well, actually, if you keep doing it your way,
00:32:34you're gonna end up with mediocre scores
00:32:35and a bad bowling back.
00:32:37Keep at it, though.
00:32:39You're natural.
00:32:41Thanks.
00:32:47Way to boost his ego, Dad.
00:32:49Thought you were on my side.
00:32:52Alex, I am on your side.
00:32:55And Todd's on your side, too.
00:32:57You gotta remember, you're fighting for the mighty apple.
00:33:04Hello, Dropsy.
00:33:05Watching Todd prepare to bring the apple back to West Afton,
00:33:07something you certainly never accomplished.
00:33:09Right back at you there, arrow boy.
00:33:12Hello, gang.
00:33:13Todd.
00:33:15We just set the rules with the East.
00:33:18It's a four-on-four match, one game per person.
00:33:21Add up the score and the highest total score wins.
00:33:23You can also add a substitute player on the bench
00:33:26for the current player at any time.
00:33:29And like a pitch hitter, subs in for good.
00:33:32This is a miracle.
00:33:33I don't have to bowl.
00:33:35No way.
00:33:36The day before the game, we should all bowl.
00:33:37Four highest scores get to play.
00:33:39Hey, she doesn't want to bowl.
00:33:41Uh, for once, I agree with Todd.
00:33:43Yeah.
00:33:45Smart kid.
00:33:46I also spoke with Mayor Hanberger of the East,
00:33:48and we made a new little wager.
00:33:51You're betting on us?
00:33:53When East Afton loses, they will have to proclaim it
00:33:57West Afton Day and hold a parade in our honor.
00:34:01And what if we lose?
00:34:02What type of attitude is that?
00:34:04Wait, wait, wait.
00:34:05Wait a minute here.
00:34:07Isn't it enough just to win the apple?
00:34:09I mean, do we need to put more pressure on these kids?
00:34:12Look, when you've got someone like Todd to lead you to victory,
00:34:15you've got to take advantage of it.
00:34:16It's a golden opportunity.
00:34:27What was with your dad, Alex?
00:34:29He seemed pretty tense.
00:34:30I have no idea.
00:34:32Todd?
00:34:32Who knows?
00:34:33Well, I've got homework to do.
00:34:35What are you guys going to do?
00:34:36I'm going to go see East Afton's bowling team.
00:34:38Why?
00:34:38What they do doesn't affect what we do.
00:34:40There's no offense and defense in bowling.
00:34:43But don't you want to know if we can beat them?
00:34:45What good will it do to know in advance?
00:34:47Hey, maybe we can relax because maybe they stink.
00:34:50East Afton suggested bowling.
00:34:52We know they don't stink.
00:34:55Whatever.
00:34:57Look, I'm going home to get my bike.
00:34:59Join me if you guys want to be smart.
00:35:06See you guys.
00:35:07Hey Todd, wait up.
00:35:08Alex?
00:35:08Thanks.
00:35:11Bye.
00:35:13What?
00:35:14Whatever.
00:35:15What's up with that?
00:35:42What's up with it?
00:35:43Ah, wow!
00:35:45Look at this place.
00:35:46It's just bigger, that's all.
00:35:49Still, it's pretty impressive.
00:35:51Yeah.
00:35:52Well, at least the big apple lanes have character.
00:35:56Character?
00:35:58That's what you want to call it.
00:36:13what they've got the nagurski twins who want to throw over us some football

00:40:43Set them up the way we like
00:40:45When the alley cats strike
00:41:01Well, your music is weird
00:41:04But I think you can really turn this into something
00:41:06What do you mean?
00:41:08Well, if you want people to come bowling
00:41:09You gotta make it more fun until they get hooked
00:41:11This was fun
00:41:12Sell it
00:41:13There's nothing to sell
00:41:14Sure there is
00:41:15Make it a party
00:41:16Dancing, food, a light show, cool tunes
00:41:19And bowling once a week
00:41:21Make the alley the place to be
00:41:22We do it soon
00:41:24While everyone's got bowling on their minds
00:41:25Now you're thinking
00:41:27Every week a big party
00:41:28It won't work
00:41:29Trust me, the place doesn't even fill up on league nights
00:41:31It'll work, I guarantee it
00:41:33Yeah, Alex, maybe we can save the alley
00:41:37I don't know, maybe
00:41:38Now what do we call it?
00:41:40Lane dance?
00:41:41Alley bash?
00:41:47The bowling ball?
00:41:49Yeah
00:41:51Nice
00:41:56Todd, we don't exactly have money to buy supplies or anything
00:42:00So why exactly are we going shopping?
00:42:02We're not exactly going shopping
00:42:04We're
00:42:04Just let me handle it
00:42:08But shouldn't you be practicing anyway?
00:42:10I'm getting better, you said so
00:42:11Yeah
00:42:13You're coming along
00:42:15Todd, Alex
00:42:16The bowling town is counting on you two
00:42:18Are you ready?
00:42:21Hey
00:42:22We are so ready, sir
00:42:24Atta boy
00:42:28The match is in two weeks
00:42:30You said you were worried about the East
00:42:32Yeah, yeah
00:42:32But you got a one to win, man
00:42:33And you got to show it
00:42:34That's how leaders work
00:42:35You shouldn't be worried
00:42:37You got a gift, man
00:42:38All you have to do is try and use it
00:42:39Yeah
00:42:40I guess I can do that
00:42:42Now you're talking like a guy I like
00:42:44Come on
00:42:50Now watch and learn
00:42:54Good afternoon, Miss Johnson
00:42:56Well, hello, Todd
00:42:58Getting ready to turn us to East
00:42:59Absolutely
00:43:00And the thing is, I got this project in mind
00:43:03But I've got no cash
00:43:05But I thought maybe you could help
00:43:08Help you, Todd
00:43:09It's going to be my pleasure
00:43:13Hey, guys
00:43:23Hey, Dad
00:43:24What do you got?
00:43:26What is all this?
00:43:27This is town spirit
00:43:28We got paint, silly sugar
00:43:30And a whole lot of lights
00:43:31People just gave it to us
00:43:32They gave it to you?
00:43:34Well, great
00:43:35And I'll get sweet Lou to mention them all on the air
00:43:37He owes me
00:43:38Plus, I plan on getting a sound system
00:43:40And maybe some lasers
00:43:41Because if I'm inviting my friends
00:43:42This place has got to rock
00:43:44Come on, we have more to do
00:43:45Give me a sec
00:43:46All right, I'll see you outside
00:43:47Thanks
00:43:47You're welcome
00:43:50I don't know, Dad
00:43:51It's going to change the place
00:43:55Won't be real bowling anymore
00:43:58Alex, we talked about this
00:44:00Right?
00:44:01I mean, this place has got to change
00:44:05Look, sit down
00:44:08You know what I did today?
00:44:10I got my real estate license
00:44:12Yeah
00:44:13But I had to start drafting up a listing on this place
00:44:16You know how that made me feel?
00:44:17Bad
00:44:19But I don't know
00:44:19All the stuff you guys are doing here
00:44:21Maybe it'll help
00:44:23But we're trying to change the alley
00:44:24Into something totally different
00:44:26It won't be our own special place anymore
00:44:28No, no, it'll always be your own special place
00:44:32But Alex, we have to take care of the business side
00:44:34I mean, that's just the way life is
00:44:37Anyway, maybe you'll find out that
00:44:39You know, different isn't necessarily bad
00:44:41It's just
00:44:42You know, it's just different
00:44:45You know, seeing you and Todd together
00:44:47Makes me
00:44:47Kind of flash back to when I was your age
00:44:51Why?
00:44:52Well, because Jeff McLemore and I used to be best friends
00:44:56No way, you and the mayor
00:44:58Yeah, me and the mayor
00:45:00And we fought for the mighty apple
00:45:03I gotta tell you something
00:45:04There was nothing that we would love more
00:45:06Than to see our kids bring it back here to the west
00:45:11But
00:45:12That was a long time ago
00:45:14We gotta focus on saving this place, right?
00:45:17Because I want to keep it bad
00:45:20So, here's a plan
00:45:21You go on out there with your buddies
00:45:23And like Todd said
00:45:25You make this place rock
00:45:27You got it, Dad
00:45:29Okay
00:45:38Come on, Todd
00:45:39Let's get to work
00:45:42Man, once no one comes
00:45:45Don't come
00:45:48You know, your dad and my dad used to be like best friends
00:45:50Get out of here, you're lying
00:45:53I'm not
00:45:54Forget about it
00:45:55We need to get some flyers printed
00:45:58Like we got the paint
00:46:00Exactly
00:46:10Hey, come bowling next Friday
00:46:11It's fun to work
00:46:12You gotta be there, right?
00:46:13Hey, come bowling next Friday
00:46:15Hey, come bowling next Friday
00:46:18You'll be there?
00:46:19Yeah
00:46:19Hey, Lauren
00:46:20Hey
00:46:21You come bowling next Friday, right?
00:46:22Of course I'll be there, Todd
00:46:23All right
00:46:24I'll see you there
00:46:25Come bowling next Friday
00:46:28Flip, you know you want to do this, man
00:46:29Yeah, man, I'm over it
00:46:31Yo, there you go
00:46:31All right
00:46:32Hey, come bowling next Friday
00:46:33Come on, my man
00:46:36Bowling juice?
00:46:37Hey, you're coming bowling next Friday, right, Bubba?
00:46:39Don't be food
00:46:40Food?
00:46:41Food?
00:46:41Yeah
00:46:43All right, hey, Bubba, help us write the word
00:46:45No one's gonna want to miss this
00:46:46All right
00:46:47All right
00:46:47Hey, come bowling next Friday
00:46:49Bowling
00:46:59You're getting pretty darn good
00:47:00Practicing talent
00:47:01It's an awesome combination
00:47:03Try the split
00:47:04It's rigged to set up only the 7-10 split
00:47:07Two pins, easy
00:47:11Now, Alex, watch and learn
00:47:19Easy, huh?
00:47:20Try again
00:47:25Yes
00:47:26All right, wise guy
00:47:34Dang
00:47:35Try again
00:47:57Oh, man
00:48:09Harder than it looks
00:48:11Yeah, but in a match, I'll make it
00:48:13I thrive on the pressure
00:48:14So I've heard
00:48:15Mm-hmm
00:48:18The reset's broken again
00:48:19Be back in a minute
00:48:21Take a break
00:48:21Again?
00:48:26Oh, nice for you to join us
00:48:29You spend the next four years straight in here
00:48:31And you'll practice as much as we have
00:48:33Then we'll talk
00:48:35Man, Alex is the only one of you guys
00:48:36Who has the right attitude
00:48:37The rest of you don't care at all
00:48:39Where do you come off telling us how we feel?
00:48:42You think you know everything about us
00:48:43You think you know everything about everything
00:48:46I know how to win
00:48:47And I know how to bowl
00:48:48It's not enough
00:48:50Well, then let me tell you something else
00:48:52My entire life, my father has wanted me to play sports
00:48:55You could be a star, he tells me
00:48:56You've got the talent, he says
00:48:57But you know what?
00:48:59I have fun bowling
00:49:00And I don't like other sports
00:49:01And all of a sudden
00:49:02Bowling means everything to our town
00:49:04And you think I don't care?
00:49:06Think again, Golden Boy
00:49:09That's more like it
00:49:11You gotta know that it's okay to aim high
00:49:13And it's okay to show it
00:49:14Show it like you do?
00:49:17I'll pass
00:49:18Fighting like cats and dogs
00:49:19Is not gonna make the next ten days real pleasant
00:49:21Am I right?
00:49:24You're right, say the cool cats
00:49:26You're right, say the hot dog
00:49:30All right, then
00:49:31One more game
00:49:32Three low scores by the high score dinner
00:49:34But you always get the high score
00:49:36And I'm mighty hungry
00:49:43Man, it's like we're not invisible anymore
00:49:47We got the mighty apple glow
00:49:49Come on, let's go
00:49:51Hey, Todd
00:49:52Good news

00:49:57Sweet Lou?
00:49:58Excellent
00:49:58We told Sweet Lou
00:50:00You're the captain of the team
00:50:01Just so you know
00:50:05Todd, that's not fair
00:50:06We should vote on our own captain
00:50:07Well, Sweet Lou's expecting me
00:50:10Look, why don't you guys vote on a co-captain?
00:50:17It's you, Alex
00:50:18As long as you promise to come by the diner tonight
00:50:20And tell us all about it
00:50:21I promise
00:50:21If you guys promise to listen
00:50:23Duh
00:50:24Hey, do you guys think you'll call me
00:50:26Oh, captain
00:50:27My captain?

00:52:49Now can we please drop it?
00:52:52Guys, come on.
00:52:53I hate to do this, but I've got to get you all to work now.

00:53:00Let's go.
00:53:01Let's go.
00:53:02Let's go.
00:53:31This is so cool, Dad.
00:53:32Look what we've done.
00:53:34So this is what the place looked like in the glory days.
00:53:36Well, yeah, there was not as many fancy lights and more customers, but yeah, buddy, this
00:53:41place used to be something to see.
00:53:43At least if we got a sale, we'll go out looking good, huh?
00:53:47Maybe it'll work.
00:53:49Well, either way, the place has been good to us, Alex.
00:53:51You grew up here, and I got to watch, and that makes me a pretty lucky guy.
00:53:58Either way, though, splits or strikes, we're going to be okay.
00:54:03Hey, I got to tell you something, though.
00:54:05I really hope this works.
00:54:08I got to go get changed.
00:54:09Hey, tonight, don't worry about the alley, all right?
00:54:12Just be one of the guys, be one of the gang, and just have fun, okay?
00:54:16All right, Dad.
00:54:16I'll be back in a minute.
00:54:18Huh?
00:54:20What do you think?
00:54:21It's going to be cool, Mr. T.
00:54:23We're even going to play for our own games.
00:54:25You know what?
00:54:25I'm going to let you.
00:54:26Don't be charged with us for those bat games now.
00:54:28All right, people.
00:54:29Wait, this music is going to chase people away.
00:54:32Swing music sets the mood.
00:54:33Yeah, the mood of misery, maybe.
00:54:35Hey, Mr. T, yo, put this in.
00:54:36I guarantee you.
00:54:37Cha-ching!
00:54:38Cha-ching?

00:57:32And the crowd.
00:57:34Great crowd.
00:57:35Big crowd.
00:57:36It's not too bad, although I wish we got to pick
00:57:38the music.
00:57:39Come on, guys.
00:57:40This place is rocking.
00:57:41Get over here, Bowling Dude!
00:57:43Catch up with you later.
00:57:46Bowling Dude?
00:57:47I don't want to talk about it.
00:57:49Out of the spot.
00:57:51Bowling Dude?
00:57:53I'm in trouble.
00:58:06That is a blast.
00:58:09I never knew this place could be so cool.
00:58:11Yeah, the place for sure.
00:58:12But some of the people, I'm so sick of that Alex kid.
00:58:15I know what's a geek.
00:58:16Always a geek.
00:58:17After the apple, things way back to normal.
00:58:19You don't have to hang out with him.
00:58:20You know?
00:58:21Stop complaining.
00:58:22Yeah, I guess it's worth it if we win,
00:58:24but I still don't have to like him.
00:58:27I love to have to have you.
00:58:32Bye.
00:58:35Bye.
00:58:38Bye.
00:58:40Bye, bye.
00:58:49Bye.
00:58:54Bye, bye.
00:58:56Mr. T, this is one successful night.
00:58:58I bet you people come back here all the time now.
00:59:01Hey, good night, Alex.
00:59:03Yeah, I'll see you at practice.
00:59:06Hey, Todd, thanks for your help.
00:59:07No problem. Good night.
00:59:14Dad, did you see Alicia and them leave?
00:59:17Yeah, they left about an hour ago. Why?
00:59:20No reason.
00:59:22Just wondering, that's all.
00:59:26Man, I hate this muddy apple stuff.
00:59:28Really?
00:59:30I thought you were kind of liking it a little bit.
00:59:33I don't know.
00:59:34It just makes everything so different.
00:59:38Well, it can make some things different,
00:59:40but it doesn't have to make you different.
01:00:04Oh!
01:00:05Hey, maybe you should try bowling without the shades.
01:00:07Now you're teaching me how to bowl?
01:00:08No, I'm teaching you how not to bowl.
01:00:10Alex, why don't you try the...
01:00:11Try the last spin. Yeah, no deal.
01:00:13I didn't suddenly get stupid.
01:00:25Hoorah! Yes!
01:00:26I'm the man.
01:00:27If I can't do it, no one can.
01:00:29Uh!
01:00:31Aha!
01:00:32217.
01:00:33Now this is bowling's.
01:00:35I hate to admit it, but I'm impressed.
01:00:36I never thought you could do that.
01:00:38You wanna know the truth?
01:00:39Me neither.
01:00:40Hey, but you always said that...
01:00:42Shh!
01:00:47For crying out loud.
01:00:49Hey team, ready to whip the wolf pack?
01:00:51Yeah, you betcha.
01:00:53Okay, bowlers.
01:00:54Listen up.
01:00:55Now it's time for us to show that the time you've spent here
01:00:59has been time we took the time to notice.
01:01:02Of course, we want you to win.
01:01:04But most of all, we want you to represent us wildcats well.
01:01:08Don't be silly.
01:01:09We want you to win.
01:01:10Ha ha ha!
01:01:11Stop!
01:01:12Here you go.
01:01:14Your new uniforms.
01:01:17Doesn't it make you proud to wear the school colors, huh?
01:01:21Ew, these uniforms are ugly.
01:01:23Fashion emergency.
01:01:25Nothing that says West Appleton Wildcats can be ugly, young lady.
01:01:30And hey, now we're a team for sure.
01:01:32Well, I'm psyched.
01:01:33Bring on these.
01:01:35You tell him, son.
01:01:39Keep those balls rolling.
01:01:50Hey, Dad, you back there?
01:01:52Hey, pal.
01:01:53These uniforms stink.
01:01:55Well, hold it up.
01:01:56Let me see.
01:01:59Yeah, it's nothing special, is it?
01:02:04Wait, wait, wait.
01:02:05Tell it to me again.
01:02:06Your dad said what?
01:02:08If we win the new school, we call West Appleton Junior High.
01:02:11And if we lose, it'll be called East Appleton Junior High.
01:02:14Wait, so now it's the Mighty Apple and the school?
01:02:17Look, don't whip out on me, guys.
01:02:19We were so close.
01:02:20We were so good.
01:02:23Oh, that was it.
01:02:24That was the final straw.
01:02:26My old friends hate me.
01:02:28My new friends aren't my friends at all.
01:02:30Oh, this just isn't any fun anymore.
01:02:33Look at this.
01:02:34They bet a school on us and they give us a piece of junk.
01:02:37All they care about is winning.
01:02:38They don't understand bowling and they don't understand us.
01:02:40Alex, no one understands us.
01:02:42This is bogus.
01:02:43I'm so out of here.
01:02:45What do you mean?
01:02:46What do you think I mean?
01:02:47I quit.
01:02:47You know what?
01:02:48You can't quit.
01:02:49You can't leave me now.
01:02:50Watch me.
01:02:51Alex, you can't quit now.
01:02:53We're too far into this thing.
01:02:54The team needs you.
01:02:57We are not having a good day.
01:02:59What a loser.
01:03:00Not a loser.
01:03:01This isn't the real Alex.
01:03:02Of course, you must know that now that you're his best bud.
01:03:06At least there's still four of us.
01:03:09Four?
01:03:11Me?
01:03:12Bull?
01:03:15Delia.
01:03:17Just trying to lighten the mood?
01:03:21Oh, good.
01:03:22Yeah.
01:03:37Did you talk to him?
01:03:38I tried.
01:03:38He's not listening.
01:03:41So, uh, where's that Thompson kid?
01:03:44Alex isn't feeling well.
01:03:46Well, son, you still ready to lead the team to victory?
01:03:49Actually, sir, we're gonna let Todd bowl for all of us.
01:03:52That way he can lead and follow.
01:03:54Well, Todd's been through the fires before.
01:03:55He's a leader.
01:03:57Natural born.
01:03:58He's kept us all together, that's for sure.
01:04:00Never steered any of us wrong.
01:04:03I rest my case.
01:04:08I'm so nervous.
01:04:10Don't be.
01:04:10You're all good.
01:04:11You were all really good.
01:04:12But these uniforms are a fashion disaster.
01:04:16Look, we have fun.
01:04:17We do the best we can.
01:04:18That's all we can do.
01:04:19It just doesn't seem like it's enough.
01:04:27Sometimes it isn't enough.
01:04:34This is so unlike Alex.
01:04:36Vince don't like himself for a while now.
01:04:38I miss him.
01:04:40Nancy, I'm getting another soda.
01:04:42Go right ahead.
01:04:46Can I join you?
01:04:47Where's your fan club?
01:04:49Psst.
01:04:50I left them at the Todd is King rally my dad is hosting.
01:04:55Are you looking for sympathy?
01:04:59You don't like to lose, do you?
01:05:01I can't lose.
01:05:02It's not allowed.
01:05:05Look, I just came here because I wanted to.
01:05:08You know.
01:05:09No, I don't know.
01:05:14Lisa, you can bowl the worst game of your life tomorrow.
01:05:17A five maybe, or a ten.
01:05:19But at the end of the day, your friends wouldn't care.
01:05:23And that is just so cool.
01:05:25I want to win, you know.
01:05:26We all do.
01:05:27It's nice having people look at us.
01:05:29Actually at us, not past us.
01:05:31People will always look at you after this.
01:05:33Win or lose.
01:05:35No.
01:05:36People will always look at you and blame us for the loss.
01:05:38Or say we were carried by you to a win.
01:05:41Look, forget about the game.
01:05:43What I'm saying is that eventually people will see you.
01:05:45Because you're there and you're real.
01:05:47That's all that counts.
01:05:49Maybe.
01:05:51Definitely.
01:05:52Trust me on this one.
01:05:53You should go talk to Alex.
01:05:56I don't think he wants to talk to me.
01:05:57Well, you should try anyway.
01:06:01Yeah.
01:06:03Yeah.
01:06:06You know, I got something for you.
01:06:08But you're right.
01:06:09You should go talk to Alex first.
01:06:18Golden Boy is human?
01:06:20All right.
01:06:42You're right.
01:06:43Probably wasn't even your fault.
01:06:46You know?
01:06:47I never thought I'd actually like you.
01:06:50I never thought I liked bowling.
01:06:53All I thought about was winning.
01:06:55I always wanted to win too.
01:06:57We all did really.
01:06:58We just didn't care the same way you did.
01:07:00I know that now, dummy.
01:07:01That's what I'm saying.
01:07:02You're not me.
01:07:03You're not the same as me.
01:07:04No.
01:07:07You know what the big difference is?
01:07:10Hair color?
01:07:12Yeah.
01:07:15I play every sport I can.
01:07:17But I'm not there because I have fun.
01:07:18I'm there because that's what I do.
01:07:20And I'm good at it.
01:07:22Sure, sometimes it's a blast.
01:07:24But that's not why I'm there.
01:07:28Bowling was fun.
01:07:29Bowling still is fun, Alex.
01:07:31Tomorrow, let's forget about the big stakes.
01:07:33Let's just go out there and bowl.
01:07:35If we win, great.
01:07:36And if not, well, we'll have fun and we'll try.
01:07:40But I want you there.
01:07:42If I chase you away, I'm not going to have any fun at all.
01:07:44And I really want to have fun.
01:07:48Look.
01:07:55It's yours whether or not you play.
01:07:59Tex?
01:08:00You look like a Tex.
01:08:02It's our new uniforms.
01:08:04And I think I'm going to be Dirk.
01:08:07Just promise me something.
01:08:09The next time you bowl, whenever it is,
01:08:12just have fun again.
01:08:16Good night, Dirk.
01:08:17Good night, Tex.
01:08:30Hey.
01:08:33Thought I heard voices.
01:08:34No, it's just me.
01:08:39Just got off the phone with Mom.
01:08:41She and Grandpa are coming back tomorrow night.
01:08:44They said they'd miss you.
01:08:48And I miss bowling.
01:08:50You know the way it used to be.
01:08:55You know, Jeff McLemore and I used to play second base and shortstop on the school baseball team.
01:09:00Bottom of the ninth, against East Appleton, we mess up a double play.
01:09:06He says that I dropped the ball and I say that he made a bad throw, but we lost the
01:09:12game.
01:09:13Later on in the year, we lose the apple.
01:09:16And we decided it was because of that missed double play.
01:09:20It became a huge thing between us.
01:09:22We stopped having fun together and we stopped being friends.
01:09:30We claimed that the mighty apple changed us.
01:09:34Of course, it wasn't really the apple.
01:09:35It was, uh, it was just us.
01:09:39Letting that happen was the stupidest thing either one of us has ever done.
01:09:50You lock up when you come in?
01:09:52Yeah?
01:09:54Okay.
01:09:55Good night.
01:10:14Let's go guys!
01:10:17Let's go guys!
01:10:31Fries, we're back.
01:10:32Hey!
01:10:34Oh my gosh, it's good to see you.
01:10:37Nice to see you.
01:10:37How you feeling?
01:10:38Great, good.
01:10:39Please, please.
01:10:41He's coming.
01:10:42Lisa, he's not coming.
01:10:44Yes, he's coming.
01:10:46Well, you better hurry.
01:10:50Oh, hamburger.
01:10:51The school is ours.
01:10:53You dreamed.
01:10:55The apple and the school belong to the east.
01:10:58We'll see.
01:11:05Thank you, thank you.
01:11:07Welcome to the Big Apple Lanes, the pride of West Appleton.
01:11:14And now, on behalf of my colleague, Mayor Hamburger, we welcome you to the last event in the history of
01:11:20the mighty apple.
01:11:24Winner takeoff!
01:11:31Man, there's a lot of people in there.
01:11:34Ain't it great?
01:11:35And now, for the last time ever, Mayor Hamburger and I will unveil the mighty apple.
01:11:58It's a beauty.
01:12:00And tonight, we'll know where it resides for all eternity.
01:12:07We certainly will.
01:12:09And now, without any further ado, let's bring out our teams.
01:12:14Representing East Appleton, our pride and joy, the bowling wolf pack!
01:12:34Pooling?
01:12:35In a bowling alley?
01:12:36Look at all those cameras.
01:12:38Why would anyone want to take a picture of this?
01:12:40Because our uniforms are so darn cool!
01:12:45I'm sorry!
01:12:46I took the fun!
01:12:47Hey, come on, let's win tonight!
01:12:49Woo!
01:12:50All right!
01:12:53And here comes the pride of West.
01:12:56Today's sporting the name, the alley cats.
01:12:58Spunky, yes?
01:13:02There's Tom McLemore looking confident as one would expect.
01:13:07Woo!
01:13:10Woo!
01:13:12Woo!
01:13:13Woo!
01:13:14Woo!
01:13:14Woo!
01:13:15Woo!
01:13:16Woo!
01:13:19Woo!
01:13:21Woo!
01:13:23Woo!
01:13:26Woo!
01:13:33Woo!
01:13:34Woo!
01:13:34Woo!
01:13:34Woo!
01:13:35Woo!
01:13:35Woo!
01:13:35Woo!
01:13:36Woo!
01:13:37Woo!
01:13:37Woo!
01:13:37Woo!
01:13:38Woo!
01:13:40Woo!
01:13:42Woo!
01:13:59but still head-to-head.
01:14:02Oh, my!
01:14:04Nobody told me that bowling could be so exciting.
01:14:08Here comes the coin toss.
01:14:11Heads.
01:14:14We'll go second.
01:14:16East Appleton is going to get the game going.
01:14:18Our game from the West is going to start with Ken Long,
01:14:21followed by Elisa Bowers, Alex Thompson,
01:14:24and batting cleanup for want of a better term,
01:14:27Todd Backlmore.
01:14:28Oh, my!
01:14:30The tension's so high, I can feel my spleen pounding!
01:14:35Bobby Nagurski, a star of the East, is preparing to bowl.
01:14:50It's a tie game!
01:14:52That's my boy!
01:14:53That's my boy!
01:14:54Don't kill him, baby!
01:14:56Oh, my, ladies and gentlemen!
01:14:59It's clear already!
01:15:00This is going to be one fine bowling match!
01:15:08Oh, my, ladies and gentlemen!
01:15:12Ah!
01:15:15Oh!
01:15:17Oh!
01:15:19Oh!
01:15:20Oh!
01:15:23Oh!
01:15:25Oh!
01:15:29Oh!
01:15:31Oh!
01:15:33Oh!
01:15:37After rolling three frames each, we have a tie ballgame!
01:16:13Here we are at the seventh frame stretch, and East Appleton is leading by 15.
01:16:18This game is closer than my shave this morning.
01:16:30Yeah!
01:16:33Oh! I am breathless, my friend!
01:16:37Entering into the tenth frame, and East Appleton leads.
01:16:40But the West is working on more marks.
01:16:43They could catch up, and dare I even dream it, win the Mighty Apple!
01:16:48Okay, if I get three strikes, we're tied.
01:16:51Baron isn't working on a mark, so the highest he can get is 30 points.
01:16:54Todd, you're working on a strike.
01:16:56You can top 30 in a heartbeat.
01:16:57All you need is a strike or a spare.
01:16:59Not a problem.
01:17:00Exactly.
01:17:00Three strikes, Alex?
01:17:02So not a problem.
01:17:04Right.
01:17:05All right, Ted, go get him!
01:17:06Come on, Alex!
01:17:07Woo!
01:17:20Strike ball!
01:17:21Yeah!
01:17:22I am sweating bullets, folks, so if I short out, it's been good knowing you.
01:17:27Should I, you know, curve one in or put one right up the middle?
01:17:30I think you should not mess around.
01:17:32Come on, how about one between my legs?
01:17:34Alex, there's fun, and then there's torture.
01:17:36Go, Paul.
01:17:37Yeah, go, go.
01:17:38Come on, Alex, go.
01:17:39Come on, Alex, go!
01:17:40Come on, Alex!
01:17:40Woo!
01:17:49We're all away, and the risk is still alive!
01:17:52He hears the way it's going, kid!
01:17:54Go, Alex!
01:17:57Oh, this is not a bad way to live.
01:18:03Last ball, frame 10, Alex Thompson.
01:18:30East's last baller needs three strikes to keep the lead.
01:18:44East Appleton leads by nine pins.
01:18:47Todd McLemore, the West's last bowler, only needs a spear to win the mighty apple.
01:18:52Who else would you rather have in this situation?
01:18:55I know this is a long time to say this, but I shouldn't have gone last.
01:18:58It's all right, Todd, man.
01:19:00You can do it.
01:19:01It's challenge playing, man.
01:19:02Spare, and that's it.
01:19:05Todd McLemore needs at least a spear to give West Appleton the victory.
01:19:20Oh, bummer for the West.
01:19:23Todd McLemore launches a perfect ball, but is denied.
01:19:27Now he has a 7-10 split, and he has to make this spear, or the apple goes home with
01:19:32the
01:19:32dreaded wolf pack.
01:19:33I think I'm having liver failure.
01:19:36It was a perfect ball.
01:19:37You've bowled the best game of your life under this pressure, Todd.
01:19:41But I can't make this shot, and we're going to lose.
01:19:43No, we're not.
01:19:46I can make the shot.
01:19:48You can make the shot?
01:19:50Yep.
01:19:52Todd, they want you.
01:19:54You can make the shot.
01:19:56Oh, yeah.
01:19:59Then we're going to take that substitution.
01:20:02Referee, leap out of your chairs, folks.
01:20:04We are seeing history.
01:20:06Todd McLemore has removed himself from this game.
01:20:13What are you doing, Todd?
01:20:15It's okay, Dad.
01:20:16You get back in there.
01:20:18No, Dad.
01:20:19I'm ordering you, son.
01:20:20You are best hoped to win.
01:20:22Why?
01:20:22Because you want me to be?
01:20:23It doesn't work that way, Dad.
01:20:25Sometimes I'm not the best.
01:20:27And you've got to let that be okay.
01:20:31I want you to go back over there and cheer for our team, Dad.
01:20:34Not just for me.
01:20:44Come on, D-Lea.
01:20:45You've got this cold.
01:20:46Come on, D-Lea.
01:20:47Yes.
01:20:47Come on.
01:20:48Let's go.
01:20:55Come on, let's go.
01:20:56Let's go.
01:21:26It's moving.
01:21:28Have mercy.
01:21:29That ball is moving.
01:21:38I am having an apoplexy here, folks.
01:21:41If there's a doctor out there listening, come on down here and help me.
01:21:44You'll be here before the ball hits the pins.
01:22:07You have done this before, haven't you?
01:22:11Wouldn't you like to know?
01:22:37Almost there!
01:22:41Hold everything.
01:22:43Now remember, I'm the one who cares about the fun of bowling.
01:22:46I'm not into competition.
01:22:48But did I care if Delia made that spare, thereby winning the mighty apple for West Appleton?
01:22:54Did I care?
01:22:56Did I ever?
01:22:58Well, what do you know?
01:23:07Spare! Spare!
01:23:10West Appleton wins!
01:23:12West Appleton wins!
01:23:21You're right. Bowling is still fun. Thank you.
01:23:25They'll take you for everything. You were great. You were great.
01:23:28I love you, Alex.
01:23:30I love you too, Ma.
01:23:34You did it! You did it!
01:23:35We did it, Dad!
01:23:39Listen, I'm sorry.
01:23:41I always thought you liked all the attention.
01:23:44I forgot about all the pressure.
01:23:46You know what I learned, Dad?
01:23:47I learned that sports can be fun, not just an intense gotta-win game.
01:23:50I mean, I still want to win, but I really like this having fun business.
01:23:53I know. I'm sorry.
01:23:55It should always be fun.
01:23:57It's just that you're so special, and I want the best for you so badly.
01:24:00I'm so proud of you.
01:24:01Thanks, Dad!
01:24:03I'm proud of all of you!
01:24:05The apple is ours!
01:24:07Yes!
01:24:07The school is ours!
01:24:08The West lives on!
01:24:10Hey, Dad, it's not about ego.
01:24:12I mean, you didn't play, we did, so we should get to decide what's what.
01:24:16You don't want the school to be West Appleton Junior High?
01:24:19You really think someone should lose their identity over something as fun as bowling?
01:24:23I don't.
01:24:25Well, man, you won.
01:24:30No, uh, the team won.
01:24:36Same thing.
01:24:38And, um, well, we're not going to name the school.
01:24:42You're not?
01:24:43Yes, we are.
01:24:46You are?
01:24:47Yeah.
01:24:49We're going to name it Appleton Central.
01:24:53I love it.
01:24:56I like it.
01:24:57It rocks!
01:24:59Yes!
01:25:00Hey, you know what this place needs?
01:25:02A little fun.
01:25:04A little music.
01:25:04And a lot of style.
01:25:21Knock, knock, knock them down.
01:25:24Baby, let's go to town.
01:25:27The box fills the air.
01:25:29Hey, we got time to spare.
01:25:30We're going to set them up just the way we like.
01:25:33Cause the joint heats up when the alley cat strikes.
01:25:38Ooh-wah.
01:25:40Right down the middle.
01:25:41Ooh-wah.
01:25:42Right down the middle.
01:25:44Ooh-wah.
01:25:45Right down the middle.
01:25:46Ooh-wah.
01:25:47Right down the middle.
01:25:49Ooh-wah.
01:25:49Set them up just the way we like.
01:25:51Cause the joint heats up when the alley cat strikes.
01:25:57Now admit it, you didn't see it coming either, just like me and everyone else in West Appleton.
01:26:04You thought the Golden Boy and the Retro Kid would always be worlds apart.
01:26:08This just goes to show you, you can always find some common ground, if you look hard enough.
01:26:14Okay, maybe not on the dance floor, but hey, there's always bowling.
01:26:20Sometimes worlds do collide. So, if you have a beef with someone who's completely different from you, I say settle
01:26:27it. Settle it in the alley.
01:26:48Settle it in the alley.
01:27:17We'll walk right down the middle.
01:27:19Set them up the way we like when the alley can't strike.
