00:10Venezuela ratifies the Geneva agreement as the only valid mechanism for resolving the dispute over Guayana-Esequiba.
00:22In the Dominican Republic, the government has halted a mining project that brightened the water supply and way of life
00:29in the region.
00:34And thousands of children are at risk of contracting infections by the proliferation of pests, especially rats, in the Gaza
00:41Strip.
00:48Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Dele Sous Studios in Caracas, Venezuela. We'll begin with
00:54the news.
01:09Venezuela went to the International Court of Justice to defend its historical rights over Guayana-Esequiba.
01:16The legal delegation led by Foreign Minister Ivan Hill, which is reviewing the contentious proceedings, say that it is participating
01:24in the hearings to reaffirm Venezuela's position of not recognizing the jurisdiction of the ICJ to settle the dispute since
01:32the Geneva agreement is in force and establishes that Venezuela and Guayana must sit down to negotiate in a consensus
01:38-based and mutually agreed manner.
01:40Venezuela has reiterated that it would defend its historical rights in any forum and that the outcome of this international
01:46court does not change the substance of the matter since the Geneva agreement, at the time of its signing in
01:521966, set aside the 1899 Paris Arbitral Award.
02:02Foreign Minister Ivan Hill emphasized that the legal team appeared before the International Court of Justice with the aim of
02:09defending Venezuela's territorial claim over Guayana-Esequiba.
02:17Venezuela has stated that it does not recognize the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice in the case of
02:25the territorial dispute with the Cooperative Republic of Guayana over the territory of Guayana.
02:32Venezuela, a territory that is historically belonged to us, as the titles clearly indicate.
02:42However, we have come here in fulfillment of our commitment to express the historical truth, the legitimate truth of our
02:50liberators who granted us that territory, which we are defending and will continue to defend in all forums, but fundamentally
02:58through direct negotiation.
02:59But fundamentally through direct negotiation.
03:05And the Venezuelan diplomat stated that the 1966 Geneva Agreement is the only mechanism for reaching an understanding with Guayana
03:13regarding territorial boundaries in Guayana-Esequiba.
03:22The 1966 Geneva Agreement is the only valid instrument that commits the parties to seeking a solution satisfactory to both
03:31nations.
03:32And this has been proven today.
03:36We have heard all of Guayana's arguments, where can we say, but it has been proven that there is no
03:42other solution than indirect negotiation.
03:46We have seen a series of false arguments and manipulations of the evidence that exists showing that the territory of
03:53Guayana-Esequiba is Venezuelan, trying to address trying, through technicalities, to seek a resolution through the International Court of Justice,
04:02which we do not recognize.
04:04To have this case resolved a political issue, a matter of controversy between two countries.
04:15And the acting president of Venezuela, Des Rodriguez, led an official reception and recognition ceremony for the country's athletes who
04:22took part in the 2026 South American Youth Games in Panama.
04:26At the event, Venezuela consolidated itself as the second-ranked youth sports power in the region, achieving a historic record
04:35of 83 medals.
04:36The acting president emphasized the importance of women in Venezuelan sports and praised the performance of the female delegation.
04:44Three disciplines led the 33 gold medal tally, weightlifting, athletics and wrestling.
04:49This achievement is a result of sustained efforts by the national government to promote and strengthen sport as a public
04:56policy.
05:08For the first time, we came second in these South American Youth Games.
05:15This is a milestone for a country and sends a strong message to the world of our Venezuela.
05:24A country that is rising despite the hardships and despite competing under unequal conditions as a country under blockade.
05:34Do you embody what it means to be Venezuelan?
05:37To never, never give it up.
05:41Nunca rendirse.
05:42And as part of the return to the homeland mission, a total of 157 Venezuelans returned home from the United
05:50States on the 140th flight of this humanitarian initiative.
05:54A total of 106 men, 29 women, 15 girls and 7 boys arrived at Maiketia International Airport in La Guayra,
06:02where they will begin a new chapter in their homeland.
06:05In this regard, this new group was received by officials from various public safety agencies who guaranteed order and security
06:13throughout the entire process.
06:15Upon their arrival, the repatriated migrants in Venezuela passed through an immigration checkpoint where each person was interviewed to review
06:23their case.
06:25They then received medical care from Bolivar and government agencies before being transported to their homes by security forces.
06:39U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein has set a new hearing for June 30th for Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and
06:47his wife, First Lady Celia Flores.
06:50The order was issued at the United States Courthouse in Manhattan.
06:53This decision follows a joint motion filed electronically on May 1st by defense and the prosecution.
06:59If there is no postponement, the Venezuelan President and the First Lady will return to the Southern District Court of
07:05New York.
07:05In this context, the Venezuelan presidential couple has declared themselves prisoners of war given the lack of substance and evidence
07:13regarding the charges arbitrarily imposed by U.S. courts.
07:24And co-presidents of Nicaragua Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo led the commemoration ceremony for National Tignity Day in Managua,
07:33reaffirming the historic legacy of General Augusto Cesar Santino.
07:37The event took place on Bolivar and Chavez Avenue, where the monument to the national heroes is located and was
07:45attended by a young people, government representative and other dignitaries.
07:51Every May 4th, Nicaragua commemorates the resolute stance of General Santino against foreign interests marking a pivotal moment in the
07:59defense of independence and self-determination.
08:01The day of national dignity is a key date in Nicaraguan history, strengthening the values of national identity and patriotic
08:10pride.
08:10In this scenario, co-president Daniel Ortega condemned the business dealings of U.S. companies in the arms industries.
08:25There is the arms trade, where billions and billions are spent on weapons in various countries.
08:34Developed countries those with a history of colonial and neo-colonial policies have a huge business there.
08:44And so do U.S. companies and, of course, that brings benefits to those in power.
08:57And the 31st edition of the Our Memory Congress, an award for young researchers, was inaugurated in Cuba as part
09:05of the Anu Romerías de Mayo Festival held in the province of Holguín.
09:09This edition of the event pays tribute to the Centenary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro and the 40th anniversary
09:16of the Hermanos Saís Association.
09:19During the event, the legacy of Fidel Castro was discussed, especially his revolutionary thought which shaped the course of a
09:26decisive period in Cuba's history.
09:28The Our Memory Congress runs until May 7th, once again establishing itself as an important forum for debate for the
09:35island's young intellectuals.
09:45In other topics, the World Health Organization confirmed the death of three people due to an outbreak of Hantavirus infection

10:14in a hospital.
10:14A third patient is in critical condition and is receiving intense care in Johannesburg, South Africa.
10:21Likewise, as a precautionary measure, authorities prohibited the disembarkation in prior Cape Verde of the 150 passengers and crew members.
10:32This finding reinforces epidemiological surveillance in Argentina where there was already a prior alert due to an increase in cases.
10:40International health authorities insist on applying protocols to contain the outbreak.
10:53WHO, together with authorities in Cabo Verde and the Netherlands, and the ship's operators are working to evacuate the two
11:00sick people on board to the Netherlands for medical care.
11:03At the present time, there are no other symptomatic people on the ship, but this is being carefully monitored.
11:09The ship is currently stationed off the coast of Cabo Verde.

11:19taken.
11:20Medical teams from Cabo Verde have been supporting the ship's passengers and crew.

11:45Water yes, go no.
11:47Hundreds of people marched from various points in the province of San Juan to the town of Sabaneta

15:35one related to the discovery of the clandestine laboratory and the other centered on possible crimes against national security due

20:19The source specified that these were small cargo vessels sailing between the coast of Oman and Iran and described the

21:13longer realistic.
21:14Instead, the organization now sees its adverse scenario already beginning to unfold.
