01:16Ultra Magnus is the commander of the Autobots,
01:18starting off in the 1986 animated film that actually mattered.
01:21In the IDW comics this toy seems to take inspiration from,
01:24Magnus has actually died and a little Autobot named Minimal Ambush or something decided
01:29I'mma cosplay as Ultra Magnus.
01:31That's not offensive at all.

01:49Nothing spectacular and somewhat sloppy,

02:59I would question where his allegiance lies with those red eyes,
03:02but then I remembered the Autobot logo butt flap.

03:13Ultra Magnus, or the armor, transforms into a car carrier.
03:16One thing you need to know is, Hasbro, you did good.
03:19With the exception of the unpainted bits on the trailer,
03:22I'm not sure what to complain about.
03:23The cab section looks amazing, but I can't drive it for a few reasons.
03:27One, I have no license.
03:28Two, it's a toy moron.
03:30And three, those windows are teeny tiny.
03:32Side to side motion, that's some good shit right there!
03:35To its credit, there's an aggressive tone.
03:37Just looking at this, and I feel like I need to put frozen peas on my face,
03:40because I feel like I was punched in the face.
03:43The cab section doesn't transform into its own figure.
03:46However, you can flip up the head.
03:47Energon Ironhide was a great idea.
03:49You can also unscrew the disc out to separate the two.
03:52Hell, with the peg on the trailer, you can set this on top, and it's like nothing happened.
03:56Would you trust a carrier with rockets on top?
03:59Where is my car going?
04:01Where are you taking it?
04:02You can add the handheld weapons to a few holes on the legs, if you like,
04:05but I'm sorry, look at how small the ladders are.
04:08You can open the back section and store an average deluxe car,
04:11or store one on the top, if you like, for transportation.
04:13Or they could drive themselves those lazy millennial fucks!
04:17Just keep in mind, for some reason, when you close the doors on the back,
04:20something usually untabs itself.
04:22Ugh, how can I stay mad?
04:24Maybe if there were indents so the figures inside don't move around too much during play?
04:28But that's nitpicking, and with that, robot mode!

05:02And here's Ultra Magnus in robot mode, and I'm sorry, this thing is fucking wonderful.

05:11This particular design seems to blend the original with the IDW Matumpti artwork, but with no wheel arms.
05:17Unlike the Titans Returns Galvatron's stupid head, Ultra Magnus is just dashing.
05:23I mean, holy crap, this might be the best and most solid head design I've seen for this character.
05:30Minus the hull part.
05:31But no worries, this is part of a gimmick.
05:33Just open up the chest, sit, Minimus Ambus inside, close it up, cover the face, and...
05:38That was anticlimactic.
05:40This is to tie into the IDW comics, but usually I leave him out for two reasons.
05:44One, he's alright by his own, and two, he's really hard to get out of.
05:47I feel like I'm gonna break it.

05:50Head side to side, neck.

05:53Shoulder bits move out of the way for in and out, movement forward and back, rotation below, elbow joint,
05:57hand opens, hips out and in, forward and back, rotation below, knee joint, and two joints in the foot.
06:01So how's the Trump Towers doing?

06:05You can never go too long, though he might be compensating for something.

06:11If you like to leave the cab and trailer disconnected, don't worry.
06:14The cab wraps around the back, and the trailer wraps around the cab itself.
06:17So even though they're separated, you can still transform it perfectly fine.
06:21If only I could say the same for the weapons.
06:24These shoulder rockets are perfectly fine using the basic pegs,
06:27but the two handheld weapons do not stay in the hands.
06:30They decide to make the handles specific for these hands,
06:33but they don't wrap around securely.
06:35As soon as you move the ratchet joints,
06:37oopsie poopsie,
06:38why was this so hard?
06:39It's a weapon in the hand.
06:41They've been doing this for years.
06:42You had one job and you fucked it up.

06:45You can combine the weapons to make a hammer.

06:49There's a few things you can do with this.
06:51You can have the rockets facing forward, backwards as propulsion or whatever,
06:55or sideways as a flat surface.
06:56I like the idea, but it just doesn't work.
06:59The handle sits way too high,
07:00and with the lack of hand motion,
07:02it's hard to pull off a dynamic pose.
07:04And this just spins and spins and spins and spins and spins...
07:09AHH!
07:09I just plug the weapons on the legs so they get out of the way.
07:12Other than that,
07:12the figure has some wiggle room in the hips and shoulders,
07:15and the feet could be tighter.

07:17he looks like a fucking champion.
07:20They filled in the back of the legs.

07:23Ultra Magnus may not be perfect,
07:26but for a figure that's not as expensive as the Masterpiece,

07:30this is nowhere near bad.
07:32Magnus looks and feels great.
07:34He's always had an intriguing design,
07:36but this completely celebrates it.
07:38I'm so happy to have this toy in my generation's collection.
07:41And it was about time they did the full thing,
07:44and not just an Optimus Prime repaint.
07:45Hell, he came later.
07:47Whether you buy the Platinum Edition pack,
07:49Takara,
07:49or Simple Release,
07:50it's really hard to stay mad at this guy.
