00:04The design idea was to create a well-thought-out space that provides the
00:09owner ease and comfort while maximizing storage and livability. The owner of the
00:16apartment is well-travelled and enjoys the comfort and luxury of a hotel suite.
00:23Having worked in a hospitality design studio, we adapted hotel design principles
00:28to this living space with neutral tone that is shown in the materials used.
00:35My name is Vin Leong, I'm the founder of Halcyon Days Design, a multi-discipline interior design
00:41studio in Singapore.
00:52The apartment is situated in the heart of Singapore, in the orchard River Valley
00:57district. Martin Place is within walking distance to the historic Robeson Quay, which
01:04leads down to the Singapore River.
01:11This was a one-bedroom apartment with an open-planned kitchen. A sliding glass partition
01:18separates the living and bedroom areas. Guests needed to go through the bedroom in order
01:24to access the bathroom. We had chosen to add the wall to create a focal point that frames
01:33up the entrance. We added walls to enclose the kitchen and hide away the mess. It also
01:39prevents smells and smoke from escaping to the living area. We also demolished the wall between
01:46the bedroom and bathroom. This creates a larger shower area and new bathroom entrance.
01:56When entering the apartment, you will be greeted with the dark walls and storage by the entrance.
02:04The walls, ceiling and storage cabinet are clad in a dark wood green laminate finish. The dark
02:12wood creates a sense of calm as well as a sense of arrival. A full height storage cabinet for
02:20shoes and coats was designed to look like wall panels. The plane serves as an artwork display
02:27stand that brings character to the space like an art gallery. Walking into the living area, the
02:35first thing that catches your eye is a wall of windows that allows an abundance of natural
02:41light into the space. A neutral colour palette is brought into the space and becomes a blank canvas
02:49for furniture pieces to stand out. A mirror was used in the corner of the room to give an illusion
02:56of depth. The original polished marble floors are honed to give a matte finish for a contemporary
03:03look. A 3 meter high pocket sliding door is concealed within the dividing wall between the living
03:14and bedroom space. There is a hidden storage by the sliding door. Walking into the bedroom,
03:24the first thing that catches the eye is a wall of white panelling, concealing amble storage
03:30and wardrobes. Custom-made hidden handles lines the panel, giving you a seamless look to this wall.
03:43The full-length mirror beside the bed head gives an illusion that the bed head is a freestanding
03:49structure. You can either enter the bathroom from the kitchen or the bedroom. Large format tiles are
04:03used for the bathroom to match the marble floor in the living space. For the walls inside the shower area,
04:11we chose a different type of tile with bush hammered texture and cut them to different sizes to create a
04:18subtle
04:18pattern. A cantilevered vanity mirror was made in black metal. There is storage space behind the mirror door.
04:30To create a cozy feeling in the bathroom, we use LED strip light in the ceiling.
04:39There is a hidden sliding glass door separating the kitchen from the foyer area. The kitchen is equipped with a
04:47large sink, oven, induction hob and extractor hood. The kitchen counter and backing are made from quartz from
04:58scissor stone. Hairline steel was used on the kitchen cabinet doors as the subtle reflections bring more depth to
05:06the space. Both the waste chute and washing machine are concealed behind the black full height panels.
05:16For a seamless look, an integrated fridge was used.
05:25The design idea was to create a well-thought-out space that provides the owner ease and comfort while
05:31maximizing storage and livability. My design philosophy is to create a functional space and increase storage space
05:40space to avoid clutter so the client can enjoy the space better.
05:54The design idea is to avoid clutter so the client can enjoy the space better.
06:00You have something that is similar to the magnetic field.
06:01with natural ways of replacing the home.
06:01Then принцип that their focus is towards this space.
