00:00Clint, when we left here, I'm not going to lie to you.
00:03I think we all had confidence that there would be a Game 7 for us.
00:10I think we all had confidence.
00:12Now, we don't know what was going to happen in Game 7,
00:14but I think we all had confidence that the Rockets would win at home
00:18and we'd be talking about today what happened in Game 7.
00:24Well, that did not happen, and that was pretty clear pretty early in the game
00:28by halftime I think you knew that the Rockets were in trouble
00:32and the Lakers were in control of that thing,
00:35and we saw kind of the old things that rolled.
00:38I mean, 7, 1, 3, 5, 7, 2, 4, 6, 10, you can jump in, YouTube and Twitch.
00:42What the hell happened, Fred?
00:45I'm going to tell you, I'll be honest with you.
00:47Exactly what you just laid out is what I saw,
00:50and I lost damn near complete interest.
00:53It was the elimination game, and I was just like, this is – I mean, it's just –
00:57you never felt a comeback was in trouble.
00:59Yeah, I just never felt like we were going to have a shot.
01:01I didn't feel like that was ever going to get back in check
01:04and LeBron was going to let that win.
01:06It looked like LeBron had that look in his face like this is –
01:09we're not going to Game 7.
01:11We're going to get this thing over with.
01:12I'm going to get my guys back fully healthy,
01:14and we're going to see if we can't make a little bit of a run.
01:16It looked like the Rockets were damn near an afterthought.
01:19And so, yeah, look, I'll tell you this, Ron.
01:22To me, it was – and I wasn't even mad at it.
01:26I wasn't even – I really wasn't.
01:27I wasn't even mad at it because I think when you –
01:30when you got a bunch of young dudes that have not been developed,
01:34you got a bunch of young dudes that are very poorly coached,
01:39and you've got a team that the identity is literally just roll the ball out there
01:44and play a bunch of one-on-one basketball.
01:46There's no rhyme or reason what they're doing on the floor.
01:51You can win a – even if you're more athletic, even if you're younger,
01:54even if you got more juice, even if the opponent has lost a bunch of players,
01:57two of their top three players kind of deal, you can go get a couple of games.
02:03But when we're talking about playoff professional sports,
02:10that's going to bite you in the ass more times than not.
02:12And as I'm watching that game the other night, I'm just –
02:15it just looks like a bunch of young, undisciplined, underdeveloped dudes
02:20that don't have much of a plan, that there's not a lot of structure around them.
02:24They don't adjust well.
02:25They're expected to do it all on their own because there is no Fred Van Vliet
02:29and there is no Kevin Durant and there is no – the coach is a non-factor
02:32and from a scheme standpoint, from a discipline, from a preparation standpoint,
02:37the coach is a non-factor.
02:38And so it just – it almost looks like they're just panicking,
02:43fighting to find a solution instead of executing a plan.
02:47You know what I mean?
02:48It looks like they're individually panicking and trying to make it happen.
02:52So, yeah, it was a bad look, but I'll be honest with you, it wasn't even –
02:56I didn't even get mad at it.
02:58Yeah, and I think what you said, I think it was also designed by J.J. Reddick
03:05and the Lakers.
03:07We talked about it Friday.
03:09The one thing is J.J. Reddick and the Lakers were going to make an adjustment somewhere.
03:15And our thought was, were the Rockets going to be able to adjust off of what?
03:22J.J. Reddick.
03:23That was a major concern in this game.
03:25And where it was lost – I mean, you put up 70 damn eight points,
03:28and I'm talking about that was a run late by the Tates and the Clint Capellas.
03:35That was a run late to get to 78.
03:37You put up 78 points, Clint.
03:39I mean, come on, man.
03:40At home, that's inexcusable.
03:4235% shooting.
03:4418% from the three-point line, five for 28.
03:4971% from the free throw line, 14 turnovers, and then out-rebounded 67 to 55.
03:56Like, all of that, they did all of that at home.
03:59At home, they did all of that.
04:01And, Clint, a big part of what the adjustment was is J.J. Reddick
04:04and the Lakers decided we are no longer going to double-team Shingun.
04:08We're going to double-team anybody.
04:09We're going to double – we're not going to double-team Shingun,
04:11and we're going to invite them to do what?
04:14Play one-on-one basketball.
04:17And they were –
04:18With a bunch of guys that ain't one-on-one players.
04:20And with KD out, they don't have one-on-one players.
04:23And when you – and you invite them to do what makes their offense
04:28potentially stagnant, and then it becomes the you take a turn,
04:32you take a turn, and there was no adjustment off of it.
04:34See, when Shingun would get doubled up,
04:36now you're bringing his passing ability into it.
04:39Guys are cutting.
04:39And then it was just like, let's see what Shingun can do against Aiton
04:44and against Hayes is what he said.
04:46And we'll just back up, and we'll make Reed Shepard beat us off the dribble.
04:50We'll make Reed Shepard shoot logo threes.
04:53And as Tyler said in our meeting so eloquently,
04:56he really sucked ass during the playoffs.
04:59God, Reed was awful, man.
05:01His numbers when you look at him.
05:03Like, he had that one moment in game, what was it, five?
05:07Yeah, he had about 25 seconds a moment.
05:09Yeah, yeah, and it was a great moment.
05:11He scores on that crazy elbow shot, moving across the lane,
05:15and then he rips LeBron.
05:16Other than that, that dude sucked.
05:18Sucked.
05:19Yeah, I mean, it was just like, all right, here we go.
05:22Men, you got it.
05:24Here you ride.
05:25And they just never adjusted off of running any offense forward.
05:31And it was just going to be a situation if, hey, if Reed got hot,
05:35if Jabari and him got hot in their one-on-one matchups,
05:38then they would have a chance.
05:39And I think to me, Ron, that's the –
05:42and we'll cuss and discuss this damn Rockets game, you know,
05:46and this Rockets exit six ways to Sunday today, I'm assuming, on the show.
05:51So, stay plugged in.
05:52But I think the biggest takeaway for me is –
05:58and we mentioned this in the crosstalk.
06:00I think the biggest takeaway for me is there ain't one dude that was on the floor
06:06that I trust to be a manager, that I trust to be a facilitator,
06:13that I trust – that I think, all right, this guy's future is one
06:18where he can manage the floor or manage the situation
06:23or make the most of a bad situation.
06:26You know what I mean?
06:27Like, all of those guys.
06:28Like, yes, we expected them to develop.
06:30And we're – most of the time we're talking develop.
06:33We're talking about Ahmed Thompson with the jumper.
06:35We're talking about, you know, players with different things specifically.
06:39When I – as a Rockets fan, when I walk away from that series,
06:43the inability – when things are going great and everybody, like you said,
06:46there's guys that are cutting and running the paces up.
06:48There was no cutting.
06:49Right.
06:50When things are going great and the game plan's perfect
06:52or the defense is setting up perfect for them to do what they do,
06:57it's a really fun group to watch.
06:58They're athletic.
06:59They're explosive, yada, yada, yada.
07:01But when you're in the playoffs, to your point, guys are going to adjust.
07:06And there's not one person that was on that floor.
07:09And let's be honest, we watched KD all year long.
07:11I'm not real sure that other than just being a great player
07:13that KD would have changed it.
07:15Like, there's not one person on that floor that I'm like, yeah, man,
07:18I know it didn't work out this series.
07:21I know it didn't work out this year.
07:22But just wait until this dude gets a year under his belt
07:26or two years under his belt.
07:27In that moment, he's going to know exactly what to do.
07:29He's going to show out.
07:31There's not one guy that I think in two years is going to create –
07:33is going to do any different in that situation than what they did game six.
07:38Now, they may be shooting it better here.
07:40They're like – like Reed may be shooting it better here.
07:42But I'm just talking about in that moment, somebody taking over the game
07:45and go – not take – and I don't mean take over the game at point.
07:47I'm talking about manage the floor and figure something out
07:51to where it's not like you said, the obvious adjustment is just let them
07:54play one-on-one and they don't have one-on-one winners, right?
07:57I mean, I just don't know that there's anybody on the floor
08:00that's got the IQ, I guess, to do something different.
08:05Well, I mean, over there on the bench,
08:06there certainly wasn't any ideas of doing something different.
08:09Fair, 100%.
08:11And then where you would think it would potentially start.
08:14No, I mean, it was a tough, tough watch.
08:19And the Lakers, who aren't a great defensive team,
08:24aren't a great defensive team, they were still with their guys.
08:28Like you would think even, all right,
08:30if they're not going to give any kind of help at all,
08:33somebody can get past Austin Reeves.
08:35I'm going to show you guys?
