00:00And also a good one the ice tonight game number one of their second round series Anaheim is going to
00:04take on Vegas and you take a look at some of these numbers here open around that minus 170 to
00:09minus 175 price.
00:10It's come down a little bit Joe into the 160s here as you see the graphic at minus 164 and
00:15a total of six and a half Anaheim vanquished Edmonton and here we find ourselves now with Vegas in the
00:20second round.
00:22Do not look to sweat out unders in this series Donnie at all. There are goals coming for both Vegas
00:30and Anaheim. This is going to be a very good series and I think you can zigzag your way through
00:36a few of these.
00:38It's going to be two games tonight one at seven and one at 930. The only difference is there's one
00:43favorite minus 260. That's Carolina over the Flyers here. More hot topics on the way.
00:48Seek with us on the early line on a Monday morning. We'll be right back.
00:51It's Monday on the early line feeling good. Hot topics rolling around. That's what we get early in the week
00:56on the early line.
00:58It's Donnie Wright said it's Joe Renier. We're going to welcome in Tom Vecchio after a busy weekend on the
01:03ice, on the diamond, on the hardcore.
01:05Tom, how are we feeling today on a Monday?
01:14Yep.
01:15Cross the board. I'm ready to roll.
01:18Tom, I want to start yesterday because hockey has been fantastic in the playoffs and me just watching extended hockey
01:23like the Flyers, even though they're going to get pulverized against Carolina, you can still take some enjoyment.
01:28The one series I really enjoyed was the Canadians taking on the Lightning.
01:33Unbelievable, crazy atmosphere in game number six, which saw the Lightning get a one to nothing win in overtime.
01:38Now we flip it over to Sunday where the Lightning had a full court press on offense and the Canadians
01:43like, we can't shoot the puck on net. Final score, Tom. Canadians two, Lightning one. What?
01:50Yeah, that's just really the randomness when it comes down to, you know, NHL overall, but specifically the playoffs. Those
01:55things are amplified.
01:56You know, I would like to say that generating nine, 10, 11, 12 shots on goal per game and winning
02:03those games is not sustainable.
02:04You can get a puck or two through, but sometimes that's what happens in the playoffs. All you just need
02:08is the puck or two.
02:09I would still ultimately side with the team that's generating 30 shots on goal, just because I know my chances
02:15are higher, but it, I, that's not sustainable for the Haps.
02:19That's what it comes down to. If they do that against the Sabres, they will lose that series.
02:24Rather be lucky than good, Tom. The, you know, you got, there was another one last night too, which might
02:32be maybe the most fun series of them all here with Minnesota.
02:36And what a 15 goal. You don't see that very often, but is that what we're expecting in this series?
02:42You know, 15 that you could tell me there was a lot of goals on May 4th, December 4th, whatever
02:48it was.
02:48That's an insane amount, right? A team scoring nine goals is crazy.
02:51Any time of the year, preseason, regular season, postseason, you know,
02:55I think this should be one of the higher scoring series along with the other Western conference matchup between Vegas
03:01and Utah 15 is too much.
03:03We're going to see that taper down. And obviously we're going to look for the pendulum to swing back to
03:07the other side,
03:07just because even though Colorado scored nine goals, they don't want to be giving up six, right?
03:11Giving up six is bad. That's a bad thing to do, especially when it comes to playoff.
03:15So both teams need to right the ship. If the next game ended two to one, I'm not going to
03:19be surprised.
03:20And I'm going to be looking for that to swing back and forth.
03:22If you're a prop better to the over in that game, you had some fun goals, assists.
03:26I mean, across the board, 15 total goals in every period, man, just letting it up.
03:30I think four goals were scored in that final stanza here to give them the win for the Avalanche.
03:35Great stuff overall. Toughest people on the planet.
03:37Let's say, ah, boxer, maybe UFC. Nonsense, Joe Ranieri.
03:40It's the NHL ice hockey player is the toughest species. Why?
03:46Now we find like, ah, what's wrong with David?
03:48Ah, Houston couldn't win this, or excuse me, the Oilers couldn't win the series.
03:51Oilers head coach Chris Knobloch confirms that Connor McDavid broke his foot in game number two.
03:56It was like, yeah, I'm still good to go, coach.
03:59Yeah, I listen. They are a different breed, Donnie.
04:04Hockey players are a different. Compare the NHL to the NBA, where a, you know, somebody stubbed their toe,
04:11they would be out for a month. You break your foot, you just keep rolling.
04:15We saw Kachuk with the Panthers, right? I mean, he had a broken sterno.
04:20Like, I mean, this, they are just a different, just a different type of athlete.
04:25NBA players, not so much.
04:28Like, you ever hurt your foot? And understand this, too.
04:30Like, sometimes you hurt your foot, they give you like a soft cast, you put a nice comfortable shoe on,
04:34you limp around here. If anybody's never played hockey, just put on a pair of ice skates.
04:39They're not comfortable. They don't move with your foot.
04:42And if you get hit with a puck or stub your toe in the ice into the boards, I would
04:46be crying.
04:46Yet these guys are out here playing world-class hockey with broken feet out here.
04:51Now, it looks like the Philadelphia Flyers' entire team played with broken feet in game number one.
04:56And here's Rick Tockett saying, like, we weren't ready to go in game number one.
05:00Yeah, I don't know if we're mentally prepared to play tonight in the sense I think we,
05:05the winning the, you know, our playoff series, not making the playoffs.
05:08I think, you know, there's a lot of excitement.
05:11I don't think we got down to earth quick enough for this game.
05:16And then that's what happens, right? Your legs aren't there.
05:19You know, the reaction, right?
05:22You know that the second guy's going to come to you, and you've got to be able to make that
05:25play.
05:26And we just make any plays, especially the first half.
05:28I mean, there was plays we made, we didn't make them.
05:30I mean, that's really what comes down to it.
05:31Boys must have had a big party after beating the Penguins because they showed up down there in Raleigh.
05:36We're like, you know what?
05:37It's not going to be our night tonight, Joe.
05:40Just not going to be our night.
05:42Listen, it happens, right?
05:43But it also happens, feels like, every year to teams like this.
05:48But listen, this is why we love it.
05:50Why there is nothing quite like the NHL playoffs and a run to the Stanley Cup.
05:56It's so unique.
05:58If I would have told you, Joe, I got the almanac, and I'm going to give it to you,
06:02for a game between Colorado and Minnesota.
06:05The only thing I'm going to tell you, Joe, is Minnesota scored six times.
06:09Bet appropriately here.
06:10Awesome.
06:10Let's go, Roy.
06:12An easy victory in the wild until it wasn't.
06:14Nine goals dropped by the Colorado Avalanche in a 9-6 victory.
06:2015 total goals in game number one.
06:24Yeah, and I'd like to say this is an anomaly, but these two teams have this kind of firepower.
06:31Yeah.
06:31Which is what makes them so very dangerous.
06:34Now, I don't think we're going to see 9-6 every game, Donnie,
06:37but I also don't think we're going to see a lot of 2-1s in this series either.
06:43How about this?
06:44A little Marty St. Louis post-game action.
06:46After the big game here, let's hear from Marty.
06:48What do you got?
06:48We're not leaving!
07:09Where to even begin?
07:11I'll tell you what.
07:12You're not going to win many games shooting 10 pucks down there, but you're going to win this one!
07:18What's going on?
07:20We did not win it.
07:21There were nine!
07:22Nine!
07:24Round up!
07:26Don't pick a victory!
07:33The only thing missing there was Vincent LeCavalier along with Marty St. Louis over there.
07:38Look at that!
07:39And I'll tell you right now, Montreal is jumping right now after that victory.
07:42Even though they only had 10 shots on goal with nine shots on goal, picked up that dub moving on.
07:48Yeah, well, like I said, rather be lucky than good.
07:51And that puck, you know, you don't even get it on Vasilevsky.
07:54You hit the backboard behind him and it somehow ricochets off.
07:58Right place, right time.
08:00Like, you should be able to try that in like, you know, like in a fifth grade lead.
08:04Like, hey, goalie's out of position.
08:05You bank it in off him.
08:06Very rare you see that in a third period late for the game-winning goal for that to happen.
08:10And you only had nine shots on that here.
08:12And I'll tell you right now, you don't want to rile up Gritty.
08:15If anybody knows who Gritty is, that is the Philadelphia Flyers mascot here.
08:19And he's a wild one.
08:20And I remember when the Flyers were a little bit down, they introduced Gritty.
08:23And even Philadelphia's like, that's the stupidest thing we've ever seen.
08:26Then what happens is the rest of the NHL glows on, ah, your mascot is stupid here.
08:30And then the Flyers fans go, don't you dare call this mascot stupid.
08:33He's our mascot.
08:34Now he's a maniac.
08:36And now it looks like we have a rivalry between Stormy and Gritty for round number two, Joe.
08:42Yeah, it kind of grows on you, though, right, Donnie?
08:45Remember that?
08:45When it first came out, it was like, this is ridiculous.
08:48And then, well, guess what?
08:50Not so ridiculous.
08:51By the way, he was throwing penguins on the ice, beating up full caricature like, you know, penguins at this
08:57point.
08:57The man is a menace.
08:58And you're riling up this menace.
09:00Maybe it helps the Flyers tonight.
09:02How about this?
09:03Anaheim Ducks and the Vegas Golden Knights.
09:05Round two of the Stanley Cup playoffs out in the Western Conference.
09:08The Patriots the favorite in this one.
09:09No surprise.
09:09Vegas is home.
09:10They are the favorite.
09:11Calci Marketplace currently listing here a 60% chance for them to win this game, Joe.
09:15And a 61% chance as the actual contract.
09:19If they win, $100 investment pays back $164.
09:22Ducks, Golden Knights getting underway tonight out in Vegas.
09:27Love Vegas here at home in this spot.
09:29But I love the over because goals are coming in this series, especially here tonight, Donnie.
09:36And by the way, you take a look at that Western Conference here.
09:38You want goals.
09:38You got 15 of them last night in a game number one.
09:41Do we get 15 goals tonight?
09:43Well, probably not at that point.
09:44But entertaining action out in the West.
09:46Even if Edmonton, my squad in the West, is still not around at this point.
