Joe reacts to reports that Miami has been taken out of the Super Bowl rotation, arguing the decision makes little sense given the city’s track record as a premier host. He emphasizes that the Super Bowl is the biggest event in the country and says Miami is built for it, with a long history of successfully hosting major sporting and entertainment events. Joe pushes back on the idea of shifting more games to cold-weather cities, calling it a downgrade for the league’s marquee event.

00:00Hey, welcome back and a good morning to everybody, man. I just been, I've been thinking about this and I,
00:05and I can't let it go. So they're telling the dolphins that they're out of the NFL Superbowl rotation, no
00:13longer meet the requirements to host the event, not enough room for hospitality needed around the stadium for all their
00:21parties and all the high end sponsors and concerts.
00:24And they said, it just doesn't work. And I'm thinking we just had that national championship game, but besides that,
00:32like, would they have somebody come down here and go, you know, I don't think things like, where did this
00:38just pop up? Like, Hey, I don't know how we tell them this, but I don't think it works. We
00:43had our group quietly go down there and we walked around and with all that stuff going on with tennis
00:50and we saw the F1 set up, it just doesn't work for us.
00:54Let's let's stick it to Steven Ross. And, uh, even though it's one of our best locations for a Superbowl
01:00and he's already upgraded all this stuff so we could get Superbowls. Now he's got a different problem. It's not
01:07the stadium. It's outside for the parties. Are you kidding? Like what idiot comes down here and go, is it
01:15the commissioner himself? Roger Goodell put his tennis shoes on it and walked around with his staff.
01:22It's just weird.
01:24Well, they don't let anyone near the stadium unless you have a ticket. That that's one thing with the Superbowl.
01:28We know, right?
01:29Yes. There's security everywhere. Yeah. I don't know, man. I don't make any sense to me. That national championship game
01:35was about as good as, as you can get.
01:37So the other celebrities love to come here, which is good for these events, right? Yes. I, you know, it
01:42was a who's who of celebrities at that championship game.
01:45Um, it's, listen, with the, uh, practice facility now for one of the teams and, uh, the hospital there, the
01:51Baptist health hospital, honestly, it's one of the most unique situations.
01:57Cause I don't know if anybody else has a hospital that close.
02:00Yeah. Right. For everything. And it's just, so it doesn't add up. So I know I got to change your
02:06tune on this a little bit. Cause earlier you're like, I don't care.
02:08Well, I, I, I, I love to have here. I think it's the biggest event we have in this country
02:14besides the world cup, which is the biggest in the world.
02:17But what he, the, the thing that gets me and I'm, and I'm just thinking, and if, if I'm out
02:22there, then forgive me, is this just somebody like, is this sour grapes in the league of, is there people
02:32in the NFL just going, he's got this and that, well, let's just take something away.
02:38Like they don't need this. Let's do it somewhere.
02:40I mean, we do get a lot. Maybe, I don't know. It's definitely possible though, Joe, like we do get
02:47a lot of events here. I think we have another semi-final game this year.
02:50So I know the NFL has looked into a lot of the, a lot of the other teams have looked
02:54into, they have a big piece of property and own their own property like Steven Ross does and have looked
03:00at it and said, uh, how'd you guys do that again?
03:03Man, how'd you get that event in that one? Cause they're all looking to make more money on their property.
03:10Every one of them share that in common.
03:12So why are they picking on a guy that's figured out he's hadn't figured out the football stuff yet.
03:17It just seems strange to take them out of the rotation completely. Like I, and to be honest, Joe, I
03:21think everyone should get a Superbowl and I know Cleveland's a, you know, probably a dump and I disagree, you
03:26know, it's going to be frigid there and all that stuff.
03:28What are you going to do, man? I know. I know.
03:30The four day package of all the corporate America sending in their best people and all these wealthy people coming
03:36in for four days. It's a four day minimum. You got to buy the four day package to stay at
03:40all these hotels.
03:42It's really good for those cities though. That's the only reason I think those kinds of places should.
03:47What do you want to do today? I don't know. It's snowing again and it's like 20 below zero. What
03:50do you want to do?
03:53I'm with you. There's not as much.
03:55What happens on game day in an outside facility? Well, you can't have one of those old games. Well, that's
04:00what you're talking about.
04:01Well, there's some people that are really opposed to these cold weather games, right? We have some of our writers
04:06that said it's just too cold to play.
04:10Can't play in those conditions. Anyway, listen, hell, if we can't play in them, at least we want to have
04:15them around us. I guess what I'm kind of saying.
04:17Yeah. But, and you made the point earlier that no one's going to the game and that's true, right? What
04:22are the tickets? $5,000?
04:23Well, we got a lot of people that will tell you that live down here. I could do without because
04:27of the traffic was like on Friday.
04:29Yeah, but I like the Super Bowl being here because I like all the events that come with it. I
04:33love the NFL experience at the convention center. We had so much fun over there with, you know, the kids
04:38go and play.
04:39But, hey, the Orange Bowl and the Super Bowl put in new fields, man, for our youth sports. They drop
04:47money in here when they're here.
04:48The National Championship game did something at the convention center. It was awesome. We had a lot of fun out
04:53there, man. Those things are great. Like, they're really enjoyable to go to.
04:57Super Bowl sets up and they make it a great experience for the fans for the week. Yes, they do.
05:01There is good stuff. There is good stuff.
05:04Anyway, Woody, it's just, it's weird. Like, of all the things, now I get it. Oh, your stadium's outdated. You
05:12can't have it until you fix it back up.
05:14Oh, now, Mr. Rush, you got another problem. You put too many events on there, so we're going to take
05:18it away.
05:19We think with the tennis courts and now the F1 track, you've taken too much space away from us.
05:25We're not going to let you in the rotation right now. Huh? That's a weird one, man.
05:32It leads to a bigger problem now is you get Dolphin fans that are pissed off, that have trouble tailgating.
05:37And that's where I feel for the fans because they have sacrificed the Dolphin fan experience for these other events.
05:45That's not, like, debatable. Agree.
05:49The stadium is much more difficult on game day because we have lost parking.
05:52That tennis thing doesn't go down, right? The grandstand? No.
05:55That stays. The paddock stays.
05:57The whole thing. It's up for good.
05:59By the way, the racing thing, hey, not only the money for the race, but they got a team of
06:07people.
06:07You know, I don't know if you ever drive by a turnpike.
06:10I think they're racing on there.
06:12They got a club for people that have way too much money, that have their own cars, to go out
06:16and race their cars with their mechanic out there.
06:19And they're paying a lot of money for that.
06:25So, yeah. But I do hear that. I do hear that a lot. The big problem is the parking.
06:31Because those are the people you got to, I mean, the Dolphin fans are the people that should come first.
06:36Yes.
06:36Right? They should be at the way top of this thing.
06:39And those tickets, I assume, go up in price every single year.
06:42Steven Ross told his guys last year, because somebody was standing there and told me, he said,
06:46Hey, guys, I want you to enjoy it. Go race the cars.
06:49And they're going to take you around.
06:50But I want to let you know that no matter what happens with this race,
06:54the most important thing in my life right now is for you guys to win and get us in the
07:01playoffs and play well.
07:02He said that to them.
07:06Again, that's what I'm waiting on.
07:08And I get the parking is a problem.
07:11I am not denying big games when you have them.
07:14And the parking situation can be, from what it used to be,
07:18how we used to have more parking than anybody.
07:19I don't disagree.
07:20A couple of quick texts here.
07:22The guy says, jealous owners see Mr. Ross make money, hand over fist.
07:25There's jealousy in the National Football League.
07:29I agree with that, by the way.
07:30We don't need F1.
07:32If you don't like F1, then I can see why that event is troublesome for you.
07:37I don't know what the numbers are on what they make, but I'm guessing it's a lot of money.
07:42I got to think there was at least 100,000 people there a day.
07:46I don't know what the final numbers were.
07:48I mean, there's a lot of people there.
07:50They sold every grandstand ticket, every campus pass.
07:54A lot of high-end sponsors.
07:56Let's see.
07:57This guy says National Championship is a one-day event that doesn't compare to the Super Bowl,
08:01which people have on location for one to two weeks.
08:04That's just not accurate, but that's okay.
08:09They had events the entire weekend.
08:10They had free concerts on the beach.
08:12They had a convention center event.
08:15No, no.
08:15The National Championship.
08:17It's a big deal.
08:18It's much bigger than it's ever been.
08:19But it's definitely not a one-day event.
08:21It's not the Super Bowl now, as far as names and stuff.
08:24Of course, it's not the Super Bowl.
08:25Nothing's the Super Bowl.
08:26No.
08:27That's a different thing.
08:27The World Cup is not the Super Bowl.
08:30Not in this country, no.
08:31And I know people are spending astronomical amounts to go to the championship match or whatever,
08:35but it's the World Cup, man.
08:38I don't care about that compared to the Super Bowl.
08:39I know Dolphin fans want to win, especially ones that don't care about car racing.
08:44I get it.
08:45305 says they've ruined the game day experience for all Dolphins fans and UM fans.
08:49I don't know if they've ruined it.
08:50How'd they do that?
08:51I don't get that.
08:52I understand that parking is tighter.
08:54How can you say they ruined it for you, though?
08:57Yeah, that's a little bit of a stretch.
08:59I understand people are frustrated that there's less parking.
09:02Yes.
09:03And that it's probably more expensive, but, you know.
09:05A lot of people parking across the street.
09:07They used to park on the main park.
09:11I get that problem.
09:12I get it.
09:13But, yeah, man.
09:15He's not going to...
09:16Ross doesn't care about the common fan.
09:18It's all about the money for him.
09:19Well, he is running a business.
09:23He is a business, man.
09:24Well, I got to tell you.
09:26You know what, man?
09:26If the Dolphins won, a lot of these problems would go away.
09:30Nobody's happier than that guy.
09:31That guy, I know it's not popular to say, and you guys are going to blast me, and I really
09:35don't care, but he does want to win.
09:37He just doesn't know how.
09:38He hasn't known how.
09:39So, he's made some bad decisions with people, but he's trying to win.
09:44He wants to win.
09:45I don't think anyone would disagree with you on that.
09:47That guy would not.
09:48I think it's very clear that he wants to win.
09:50So...
09:51Can't possibly spend any more money to make it better.
09:53He was told, listen, build a really nice training facility, because that's important
09:58to free agents and stuff.
10:00They want to be able to see that and see the turf you have.
10:03So, he goes out and buys turf.
10:05Like, what do you think he's doing that for?
10:07He thinks anything that's going to help him.
10:09Hey, we need really good cooks here so that when we have the food come out, they'll want
10:15to stay around in the off season.
10:17They won't take off.
10:18All these things come into play for that guy.
10:20He signs off on everything.
10:22We got more coming in here.
10:23I want to read to you when we come back.
10:25We got to go to break.
10:25We got...
10:26I'm sorry.
10:27We're running super late.
10:27I like hearing from the fans, though, man.
10:29This is good.
10:30We'll read this when we come back.
10:31I do want to tell you about your South Florida Chevy dealers this morning, man.
10:35Hey, South Florida Chevy dealers got some great products that we're proud of.
10:38Want to tell you all about, especially in the SUV and truck family, like a Suburban,
10:42a Tahoe, the Mini Tahoe, better known as a Traveller.
