00:01In front of a giant tanker filled with oil, the Premier launched an ambitious plan.
00:07This matters. It matters because we should control our own destiny as a nation.
00:14It matters because we do have the capacity to drill and refine and store.
00:19Land next to six state-owned ports from Brisbane to Townsville has been allocated to house new fuel storage tanks
00:26and oil refineries.
00:27But while the state government is releasing the land, it'd be up to industry to build them.
00:33We have a very, very considerable interest in the possibilities of additional investment here in Queensland.
00:38Mackay is one of the cities that could see new facilities.
00:42We grow a third of Australia's sugar here.
00:44So all of the industries that support regional Queensland, Mackay in particular, rely heavily on fuel.
00:50And so that's the sort of thing that gives confidence to the industry.
00:54The opposition supports the idea but says it'd be years until the oil flows and does nothing to help Queenslanders
01:01right now.
01:01And has raised fears most of it could be exported.
01:05Unless this oil is kept for Queenslanders, big oil companies will get the cream and Queenslanders will get the crumbs.
01:13The Grattan Institute says it's highly unlikely any company would build a new oil refinery as it's not profitable.
01:19The two refineries we've got now, one in Queensland, they're both subsidised by the government because they can't compete economically.
01:26And I think there is a real play that we can bring something to market and give every chance for
01:31it to succeed.
01:32The oil industry says government money has helped get projects over the line in the past.
01:36But for now, the premier has ruled out any state funds to help make his vision a reality.
01:41You'll see.
01:42Yeah.
01:42Yeah.
01:42Oh, for sure, Coach?
01:42That's why theandroke said he received you for more than half, fully entrepreneurship and the Iron Man.ã…Ž
01:43Well,
01:43it's really good before.
