00:01After many weeks of price pain at the Bowser, we're starting to see perhaps a little bit of relief here
00:07in NSW.
00:08Not only are national fuel stocks higher than pre-war levels back in February,
00:13but the retail price of petrol is starting to really come back down.
00:17Here in Western Sydney, unleaded 91 and E10 petrol in parts of the west are down around 195 to 180
00:27cents per litre.
00:28Certainly, the price of petrol is continuing to weigh on the mind of many motorists here though,
00:34as other cost of living pressures continue to mount,
00:37and the state government is continuing to keep an eagle eye on price transparency.
00:42The government says 70% of all fines handed out to fuel retailers in the latest compliance checks
00:48have been in regional areas of NSW.
00:51In particular, a Snowy Mountains service station was found displaying diesel at $3 a litre,
00:56while advertising $1.96 per litre on the fuel check app.
01:00Meanwhile, retailers in other parts of the state have been fined for failing to display fuel price signage.
01:08So, motorists are continuing to be urged to report any fuel retailers not meeting their obligations to the fuel check
01:15app.
01:15Now this comes as the NSW Premier has expressed an openness to NSW having its own oil refinery.
01:22He was asked that question this morning and said it's something that should be considered.
01:26I'm open to having refining capacity in NSW.
01:30We get it from Queensland and Victoria.
01:33I think more importantly it's important for the country to have more capacity onshore
01:39and also to electrify our economy.
01:43And I've made that point quite a few times over the last few months.
01:47Even a 10% increase in the number of cars that have electric vehicle capacity
01:53or in our primary producers or our mining sector would make a major difference
01:59if we see greater global conflicts around the world.
02:02NSW Premier Chris Minns there expressing an openness to the idea of the state having its own oil refining capabilities.
02:10Of course it's been more than a decade since NSW had an oil refinery.
02:14Two shut down back in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
02:19And since then there have only been two oil refineries across the country.
