The federal government is reassuring Australians that the major fire at one of only two oil refineries in the country, will not have a big impact on fuel supplies and prices. It says the blaze at the Geelong facility won't lead to a change in the national fuel security plan, which is currently at stage two. The Viva refinery supplies 50 per cent of Victoria’s petrol, and around 10 per cent of the nation's supply. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined. The Prime Minister says Viva Energy has made assurances that the impact will be minimal, despite a slow-down in production.
