00:10Summers are brutal with the heat.
00:13It'll melt your shoes, your skin, it'll tear you up for sure.
00:18If it's too hot outside, the bad guys don't want to go out and commit crimes.
00:22When the nighttime comes, the freaks come out.
00:26Put your pants off!
00:28When that's undone, people think they can hide the bad stuff in the dark.
00:31This is the I don't believe in Facebook.
00:34One team, one family, we always pull together.
00:39Get a bunch of bags!
00:41What the f*** am I in handcuffs for?
00:45It's very dangerous.
00:46Backup isn't always closed.
00:50Get out of my emergency.
00:52You're gonna kill me.
00:54Assaults, robberies, shootings.
00:57It's lawless out here.
00:58It's gonna get hot tonight.
00:59A little bit of spice is always good.
01:01Stop having sex.
01:02Put your jeans on.
01:04Be in the wild, wild west, Tucson.
01:07It's the witching hour.
01:08Don't tap out on us yet, okay?
01:31Usual common practice for me, I like to just check license plates.
01:34You'll never know if, uh, you'll end up finding something weird.
01:39So, this guy's plate is showing suspended.
01:45So, that is definitely a violation.
01:47I'm just gonna pull him over right now.
01:49Now, he's just swerved into a parking lot.
02:00Hi, so I'm Deputy Poole with the, uh, Sheriff's Department.
02:03Always the way I'm talking to you right now is because, uh, license plate that you have
02:06on the back is telling me that the, uh, plate is suspended for some reason.
02:09Is it?
02:10Do you have your license, registration?
02:13Okay.
02:14How are you doing?
02:15Hey, doing all right.
02:17Sun's down, it's getting cooler, so, you know, it puts me, it puts me in a good mood, okay?
02:21What is your name, sir?
02:24Any alcohol, any drugs, or anything else tonight?
02:26All right.
02:29All right, we're just gonna walk right here.
02:31All right, if I just pass you down real quick, make sure you don't have anything, okay?
02:34It's the wild west, man, I can never tell nowadays, okay?
02:36So, I'll have you just stand right here facing me, okay?
02:39So, important things to remember for this test, make sure you watch your foot at all times.
02:42Ready?
02:42Go ahead and begin.
02:45Watch your foot.
02:46Oh, my God.
02:50Go ahead and stop.
02:52It's hard.
02:53It's hard to keep your balance like that, man.
02:56Close your eyes.
02:58And start.
03:00He performed very poorly on every sobriety test that I gave him.
03:03I observed that he's, uh, sweating profusely, uh, his pupils are dilated,
03:07his eyes are watery, red, and bloodshot.
03:10The impairment that I'm seeing tonight, I don't suspect is as a result of alcohol.
03:14I suspect it's because of drugs.
03:17Uh, could you just remind me of your name one more time?
03:21Okay, what's the last four of your social?
03:22Uh, honestly, I don't know my memory.
03:24How old are you?
03:2637.
03:27And you don't know your social?
03:29Not my memory.
03:30I'm sorry, man.
03:31All right.
03:32Go ahead and turn it up.
03:33Put your hands on your back for me.
03:39You are lying to me, you know that?
03:42How come you're not telling me who you really are?
03:46So, yeah, let's just pretend that I know who you really are.
03:50Okay?
03:51So in that reality, how come you don't want to tell me your real name?
03:54Because I have a warrant.
03:55Okay.
03:56Well, now let's be honest with each other, okay?
03:57What's your real first and last name?
04:00Okay, so what's your warrant for?
04:06Okay.
04:07I knew you were lying to me from the get-go, man.
04:09Because you know the real was just in jail recently?
04:13Okay.
04:14Are you related?
04:15Okay.
04:17So, what was your reason for taking his identity?
04:20Were you trying to get out of trouble?
04:22You understand how serious of a crime it is to take somebody's identity to avoid jail time?
04:27Okay.
04:28Well, you know now.
04:29Okay.
04:29How much coke have you done today?
04:34Okay.
04:35You're sweating profusely right now.
04:37Your eyes and your performance and everything else is telling me something different, okay?
04:41I love it.
04:41I was just nervous.
04:43I'm nervous.
04:43I just didn't want to go to jail.
04:45Okay.
04:45Well, if you told me your real name, we probably would have had, like, a different outcome.
04:50You understand that?
04:52Okay.
04:52Any drugs, anything I'm going to find on you?
04:55Okay.
04:56How much weed have you smoked today?
04:57I haven't smoked today.
04:59Okay.
04:59But you just happen to have this in your pocket just for giggles then?
05:02It's a weed, babe.
05:05When I'm checking his license right now, it's telling me that his license status is even suspended
05:10too because of a previous DUI.
05:14At this point in time, okay, you are under arrest at least for, you know, failing to provide
05:17me a truthful name, okay?
05:18As well as assuming the identity of another person, okay?
05:21100%, yeah.
05:22That's what happens when you lie to cops.
05:23You go to jail.
05:25See, because, like, the biggest thing is you don't have that big of a scar like your brother
05:29has right here.
05:31Yeah.
05:34Oh, I didn't know you guys.
05:35At any point, did you have any remorse at all?
05:37At any point, did you want to tell me the truth?
05:40Okay.
05:40So, I'm also going to be charging you tonight for DUI as well, okay?
05:43In addition to the identity theft stuff, okay?
05:46So, I'm going to have you sitting in that car over there.
05:49He turned what could have been just a simple misdemeanor now into a felony right now because
05:53he's lying to avoid jail time.
05:55He's assuming somebody else's identity, providing false information, in addition to discovering
06:01he has a warrant for his arrest, as well as his license status being suspended for DUI.
06:06And I suspect that he's under the influence of possibly cocaine.
06:10All right.
06:11Oh, you all right?
06:13No, I'm laying down under.
06:14You're taking a nap?
06:15Yeah.
06:16Okay.
06:17So, your warrant's not even extraditable?
06:19No?
06:19No.
06:20So, I lied for nothing?
06:22Pretty much.
06:23Wow.
06:23How does that make you feel?
06:24It makes me feel like a ****.
06:26All right.
06:33In the span of one hour, one drug driver, removed from the road, charged with two felonies.
06:40I was just genuinely curious at what point in time he thought he was going to get away
06:43with everything.
06:47I've had many instances of identity theft before.
06:51We need to be on our toes.
06:53We need to be vigilant.
06:58Theft is rampant right now.
07:00You can't go in a store and not see somebody shoplifting.
07:04And we have to get serious about prosecuting these repeat offenders.
07:10Out here in the desert, we have a lot of low-light neighborhoods, not a lot of streetlights
07:15running through those neighborhoods.
07:16People think that they're able to move around completely unseen, undetected.
07:19The low-income areas, it's very constant where people are stealing and just trying to get
07:27ahead in life.
07:27Because when they start making those mistakes and committing those crimes, a theft, burglary,
07:32robbery, whatever it may be.
07:35As I kind of drive into the district, that's when I start looking for crime occurring.
07:51I don't know what is the location of your emergency.
07:54A couple of weeks ago, a guy stole all my tools at my house.
07:57And you think that the person's back in the area?
07:59Yes, and I just saw the guy trying to steal.
08:02And on the next street to my house, he stole a white male wearing a black shirt.
08:07And I think he was wearing jeans.
08:08And he has like a horseback.
08:11This guy told the dispatch that he had made a report about this guy that stole a bunch
08:16of tools from him.
08:18I guess the guy came back to either steal more stuff.
08:21Sounds like the guy that stole the stuff is a white male wearing a black hat, black shirt
08:28and jeans.
08:29We're going to go check out the park and see if he's over there.
08:34Hey, come here.
08:36Let me talk to you for a minute.
08:38Everyone male, black over blue.
08:40Everything all right?
08:42I'm good, but I just apologize.
08:43I'm waiting to call to my mom.
08:44I told her she was on the way home.
08:45She said, just wait.
08:46I'm homeless.
08:47I just barely got into town.
08:48Okay.
08:49But I don't know where her house is, and I'm waiting for her to come.
08:52You have your ID on your man?
08:53I don't.
08:54I hate that.
08:54That's hypermint.
08:55Want to call the police was on?
08:57Yeah, they said that he might be doing some weird stuff, so we're just making sure.
09:00I'm doing some weird stuff?
09:01Yeah, we're just making sure.
09:01I can follow up.
09:02Okay.
09:0420 seconds.
09:06Hey, favorite.
09:07Take your hands back.
09:09Am I being arrested?
09:10First of all, you're not being arrested.
09:11So why am I being detained?
09:12Let go of your stuff.
09:13Why am I being detained?
09:14Because of the drug care failure in your hand.
09:15That's why.
09:16All right.
09:17See, but I'm not being arrested.
09:18Why am I being detained?
09:19This is against the law, right?
09:20Do you know that, right?
09:20Okay.
09:21You know it's against the law, right?
09:22It's not against the law.
09:23Absolutely, you know.
09:24All right.
09:24We'll sort all this out in just a second, man.
09:26I'm not doing nothing against the law.
09:28Okay.
09:29And I ain't got no warrant for nothing, so y'all are being hella aggressive and way out of line
09:32about this, okay?
09:33And I know my rights, okay?
09:35You guys are treating me like I'm a criminal, dog.
09:37This is wrong, bro.
09:39Stop pushing on me.
09:40I'm not going nowhere, dog.
09:41You're hurting my hand, dog.
09:42I'm not doing nothing wrong.
09:43That's tense up, man.
09:44Just relax.
09:45I'm not tense up.
09:46You are tense up.
09:48You won't feel my other hand.
09:49He's over here twisting my up and down.
09:50This is what I did here to tell you.
09:52You're all right.
09:53You're being arrested for the arrest of a drug fare penalty?
09:58What was that?
09:58Crespassing and possession of a drug.
09:59Hang tight, man.
10:06They're going to bring the original report to you over here so that they can see the subject
10:11that we have obtained.
10:12We call this a show up.
10:14We'll just be sitting in a patrol vehicle so that they can have a clear visual of the suspect
10:19and they can confirm for us whether or not that's the person that was stealing stuff.
10:27Yeah.
10:28Yeah.
10:29They did end up just getting their positive ID on our suspect, so that's always nice.
10:44So the initial report referenced this outstanding suspect was that he had actually committed
10:49a theft about a week prior where he's stolen approximately $1,000 worth of power tools from
10:54our victim here.
10:55That same victim spotted the suspect again in a nearby neighbor's yard attempting to
10:59steal a bike from that yard.
11:01When he tried to confront the guy, he ran off to the park here, which is where deputies were
11:04able to locate him.
11:19Knowing that you were able to fully service that member of the public that needed our assistance,
11:24it does give you a pretty fulfilled feeling and in a very, very quick manner, you know.
11:29It didn't have to take, you know, a week of investigation or, you know, months or something like that.
11:36It is a really great feeling.
11:37You don't always get to have it, though.
11:54Tonight's been quite quiet, but I've definitely seen how a quiet night can go from zero to
12:00a hundred in an instant.
12:03That car looks completely blacked out from the back.
12:19He's a, that was just a single, it's a car stunt.
12:22Get back in the car now.
12:24Get back in the car.
12:31Turn the car off.
12:33Put your hands out the window.
12:37Why are you trying to get out the car?
12:42Keep both your hands out the window.
12:46Sir, I swear to God, I was not trying to jump out.
12:49I swear to God, I was...
12:50Get out.
12:52Keep both your hands out the window.
12:53Get out.
12:55Sir, I have no weapons, no nothing in the car.
12:58Get out.
13:00Sir, I only jumped out because I just...
13:03You got anything on you?
13:05Nothing.
13:05Nothing.
13:06Nothing.
13:08Sir, I only jumped out because I just crashed my damn car.
13:14All right, get over there and stand back there by my car.
13:17Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
13:18Can I look real quick?
13:19No.
13:27So let me explain to you why I pulled you over soon as you left that neighborhood back there and
13:31started flooring it you were completely blacked out from the rear and I've been trying to catch
13:35up to you since before I turned on to this first initial road were you even aware of that I
13:40was
13:40not aware of that have you had anything to drink tonight beer just one beer okay how many beers
13:47have you had I had more than one beer okay so my next question is would you be willing to
13:51do some
13:52film sobriety tests absolutely no cool put your hands behind your back you're under arrest for DUI
13:58you don't have to be rough I'm complaining I'm complaining
14:12I guess his car got stuck when he pulls over he goes to get out the
14:16car stuff like that is like indicators that you're either gonna get into a shooting or somebody's
14:21gonna run he kind of turned his body towards me which is why drew my handgun and pointed at him
14:26and gave him commands to get back into inside the car I can tell he's heavily intoxicated doesn't
14:32want to do pill sobriety tests so based off the driving behaviors him not realizing the lights
14:37were off him kind of swerving a little bit inside out the lanes his slurred speech the strong odor of
14:43the toxicants from his breath and the way he was immediately losing his balance as soon as I got
14:48him out the car there's just telltale signs that he's under the influence he's got a freshly opened
14:59there right there in the center console okay but let me explain something to you a completely blacked
15:13out car from the rear and as soon as I pull it over the driver try and hops out if
15:17you were a cop and
15:18you don't know if you have drugs or guns you you wouldn't think that's a little suspicious too
15:24come on come on okay I'm sure you've seen the videos on social media where the guy jumps out
15:29the driver's seat starts shooting at the car exactly so now you understand but okay but as
15:37soon as you were cool with me and I got you out the car the gun went right back into
15:40the holster
15:40right you're under arrest okay you're under arrest for aggravated DUI the reason it is an aggravated
15:55DUI is because within the last seven years you've had two prior arrests for DUI you were taken down to
16:02FEMA added detention center will speak to a judge in the morning
16:35911 where's your emergency hi I'm traveling on West Valencia I just got in a hand run someone
16:41crashed into me told me to pull over and he set off he's in a truck I'm following him he's
16:47speeding
16:47to try and escape from me he's going way over 80 and the road is 45 okay well I don't
16:53want to put
16:54yourself in any danger do you want to pull over I want to make sure that I get this guy
17:05so it's a vehicle hit and run she's saying a U-Haul hitter and it's taking off but she's following
17:11it
17:16it is a U-Haul
17:23all right for further behind the truck
17:32hi what's going on you got any weapons in the vehicle or anything you do have weapons
17:39just don't grab for it though oh yeah what is it sir don't grab for it
17:47don't reach in for it just tell me where it's at okay don't reach for it well like why would
17:52you
17:52reach for a gun I'm not okay come stand over here so why didn't you stop for what you hit
17:58that vehicle
17:58over there that's why she's so you didn't know you didn't realize you hit a vehicle okay do me a
18:04favor
18:04go stand in front of my patrol car can you stand with him don't let him go back in the
18:08car he has a gun
18:09right there on the thing um just hold this for a second I'm going to see what she has to
18:12say
18:12cool and ask him like about the the U-Haul stuff because he's yeah he's saying like he didn't know
18:17he hit her ma'am so where did he hit you in front of the circle cave that he rear
18:23-ended me and I
18:23rolled down my window I pulled over to the curb I said hey can we talk about this I was
18:27like okay
18:27and he was like yeah go go go oh so he knew he hit you he's dead he did the
18:32dash so she says
18:33that you said you were gonna pull over and then you took off what's the deal no I didn't I
18:37didn't
18:38say hit me a bad okay how long have you had this U-Haul like yesterday okay your license is
18:44suspended you're not supposed to be driving why do you have a truck well obviously I'm moving okay
18:50well I don't know that I'm just asking well I wouldn't have a U-Haul to be joy riding in
18:53it
18:55you'll be surprised what people do so he's just gonna get a citation for hit and run and then for
19:01driving on suspended you guys somebody is there a way to get my phone uh I'll make a call yeah
19:07is
19:07there someone is there someone that uh can you can call to come get it yeah I could call somebody
19:11your friend yeah oh hold on there's a gun in the car boy and then you go back over there
19:18thanks man huh trying to get in the car real bad who I think that you I know I'm trying
19:23to get away
19:23from you because I like police not really he pushed us I almost rear-ended someone else like
19:30it was almost a pile-up and he for sure said like he knew yeah he waved at me and
19:34he pointed and I
19:35said are you sure and I was pulled in the side on the curb and I said are you sure
19:39let's go right
19:39here and he said yeah yeah go go go he's gonna get cited for a hit and run the fact
19:44that he hit you
19:45him and took off was just a legal right yeah he doesn't have a valid driver's license so I'm
19:50assuming that's probably why he took off still you can't do that you can't hit somebody her car
19:58didn't have any damage just like the little scratches I think she was more mad because of the principal
20:15not to sound cliche but it is nice to help people it is like something different every single day I
20:23have two little girls my youngest is very wild so I can see her being a cop because she's so
20:30interested in it she always asks me every day what did you do at work mom I would encourage her
20:36to do
20:36whatever she wants whatever makes her happy my significant other is also a cop so she sees her mom
20:54and her dad this is the sheriff's department what's the emergency I'm the manager of the auto zone some
20:59guy just ran out with a big air pump it's a big lime green box so somebody sees him he's
21:05wearing a
21:05baseball cap and a dark gray t-shirt okay I gotta call a place they should be up there surely
21:15that's a theft somebody stole a compressor it's gonna be a Hispanic male wearing a dark gray and
21:24light blue shirts with a baseball hat it's carrying a green box the suspect may have changed his clothes
21:45who are not too sure oh it looks like we found a backpack oh it's pretty sure it has to
21:56be that
21:56dude in the white they changed it has to be one of them hey bud get me a pair put
22:03your hands in bed
22:06all right bud so you're being detained all right you got any weapons on you oh yeah there's a knife
22:12right there just a knife I'm gonna take it off you and have a team that's just done all right
22:16they can see it perpetually let's go to this one
22:22anything in there that belongs to you everything all right what about that compressor where's that from
22:36what a surprise so two items of clothing were located in the bag it was a black hat and a
22:44gray
22:44shirt and those are the items that the reporting described that the suspect was wearing so we got
22:49the compressor back and they're taking it back and he has warrants so he's gonna go to jail
23:00I like to catch these you have the hard-working family who's paying using their last penny and
23:08then you have these thieves who just come in and steal and then prices go up and I just have
23:14a thing I
23:27I don't like these
23:29this car was coming maybe a hundred 120 miles per hour it looked like a rocket just went by us
23:37oh oh
23:41okay so you don't see the vehicle anymore it's in the bushes
24:02we just got a call about a vehicle collision they described a gray older Florida sedan going about
24:09120 miles per hour crashed into some bushes so we're gonna head over there first thing we want
24:16to do is make sure that there's no significant injuries with a crash at speeds like that
24:27is this your car yes you feel any injuries or anything just a couple cactuses when I got out okay
24:35what happened so when I had stopped at that stop sign yeah over here I came around like 60 miles
24:42per
24:43hour and I jumped over that bump right there okay and I had spun this way and then I overcorrected
24:49and
24:49I gotcha so how much have you had to drink tonight I had a drink about two hours do you
24:57remember what it
24:58was it was a margarita house mix okay I just want to determine your whether or not you're safe to
25:04be
25:04traveling on the roadways man I see your speed coming up here it looks like you were going pretty

27:07all right I'm a qualified phlebotomist I'm gonna try to get it done and get you on your way okay
27:11man
27:17okay well that's not that's not for me to determine man definitely got some of the telltale signs got a
27:23little bit of odor of intoxicants an intoxicated person like this individual is going from calm cool
27:30collected to kind of getting really emotional starting to cry a little bit sometimes maybe it's
27:35reality setting in okay yeah man that's super lucky coming through there how that thing dips down
27:44man he could uh hit one of these uh power poles or something crazy you're all set man thank you
27:51yeah
28:02you know miraculously was uninjured uh from that collision from the looks of it and the damage to
28:09the roadways it looks like he was going you know over a hundred miles an hour it looks like that's
28:15the
28:15second dui case that he now has in less than two years so hopefully he kind of has a bit
28:22of a wake-up call
28:22from from that crash
28:46nine-one-one-one where's your emergency I'm on the road right now and there's this gentleman that
28:52almost got in a car accident he literally almost stopped in the middle of the intersection some
28:57vehicles oncoming traffic was almost hit on I'm gonna get a signal system okay you took off with the
29:05The driver's over, OK.
29:07You're getting somebody quick.
29:10Oh, he's getting on the freeway.
29:12He's got to get on the freeway.
29:14He's getting quick.
29:20I'm just running to an erratic driver.
29:23We don't know if he's intoxicated or having
29:25some type of medical episode.
29:27I'm really scared because he's just going without stopping.
29:30He's doing a U-turn.
29:31Oh, my god.
29:32You really have to get somebody out here quick,
29:34because this could be dangerous.
29:37So we're going to see if we can locate him,
29:39just to make sure there's not an emergency situation going on.
29:45We don't want a collision to occur.
29:49Our reporting party is following behind him.
29:52This will be our guy right here, actually.
29:56602.
29:56We'll be behind the vehicle at I-10 and outpost 262.
30:02He's continuing.
30:03He doesn't seem to notice that I'm behind him.
30:07Pressure needs breaking now, pulling on the shoulder.
30:14Hey, sir.
30:16Hey, how's it going?
30:18Deputy Carter, Sheriff's Department.
30:20We're stopping out with you, because you've
30:21been driving all over the road.
30:23You seem kind of confused on where you're going,
30:25and your vehicle doesn't have a license plate on it.
30:30OK.
30:31Is this your car?
30:32Yeah.
30:33You have a license on you?
30:34Yeah.
30:36OK.
30:38I got you.
30:39Go ahead and step out for me.
30:43Do you have a cane or a walk or anything?
30:46Just off to the side right here.
30:50How far from home are you?
30:51Can I see that real quick?
30:52Oh, you're about 10 minutes out?
30:53Where are you going?
30:56I can't have you walking down the freeway, man.
31:01No, I'm not going to have you stay with your car right now.
31:02I'm going to have you stay right here in front of the truck.
31:04Once everything's squared away, if you're good to go, man,
31:07we'll cut you loose, OK?
31:11Deputy's going to take you home, OK?
31:13Why can't I take that home?
31:14Because you can't drive right now.
31:17All right, we can't let you get back on the road.
31:18You had too many close calls.
31:20All right, you almost caused a few accidents,
31:22so we can't let you drive right now.
31:23I've never had an accident.
31:25I got you.
31:25You can get in touch with your family,
31:27and when they can help you out, you can come get your car.
31:29It's going to still be right here, OK?
31:33We'll most likely be submitting some forms to the DMV
31:37to have his driving privileges reviewed
31:39and possibly have him retest to make sure
31:42that he's actually able to drive properly.
31:45He seemed completely oblivious to the multiple collisions
31:49that he almost was involved in.
31:57Working for Pima County, it's pretty cool.
31:59I think my style of policing is definitely a reflection
32:04of my upbringing out here and seeing the different struggles.
32:09I think it's helped me a lot to develop a lot of long-lasting rapport
32:14with the community.
32:15I definitely don't try to be two different people,
32:18you know, inside and outside of work.
32:20Outside of work, you know, I'm spending time with my family,
32:23with friends and stuff.
32:25But, you know, when you come to work,
32:26you're still the same person.
32:369-1-1-1, where's your emergency?
32:38I'm part of a four-wheeler driving erratically out here
32:42on Valencia Road by Casino del Sol.
32:44I think he's intoxicated.
32:46It doesn't have any lights,
32:47and he almost hit me going against traffic.
32:49It's a dark-colored ATV.
32:51There was just a report of an ATV driver
32:55causing a bit of a scene,
32:56so we're just going to be checking
32:57to see if we can locate the vehicle.
33:02Hey, can I get your social from you?
33:04Don't give me that lie, dude.
33:05My picture comes up every time I've been in town.
33:08I hate my parents bringing in with you guys.
33:09What's the next lie that you're going to say?
33:12When was the last time I was in trouble?
33:14Like I told you, I came out of the desert.
33:15I wasn't on the road.
33:16If you look, you'll see my tracks.
33:17You'll know it.
33:19He's stating that he came from the desert area,
33:21that he wasn't driving on the roadways at all.
33:23So we're going to see right now if the reportee
33:26that called in that vehicle has any additional information
33:28that can help clear this up for us.
33:31I got my career trim and all.
33:33I don't know what the is going on here.
33:37Hello?
33:38Hey, this is Deputy Carter with the Sheriff's Department.
33:40We're just calling about that ATV you reported earlier.
33:42Were you able to see the driver at all?
33:44The dude in maybe his late 20s, early 30s
33:47or something like that.
33:48I think he had like a hat on, but I can't be too sure.
33:51All right, sounds good, man.
33:52I appreciate it.
33:54All right, it sounds like it was more closer
33:55to probably a juvenile now.
33:56We've got a more clear description.
33:58A little bit of education, man.
33:59Any time you cross over a road to get to somewhere,
34:01you're subject to the same laws, right?
34:03Right.
34:03You had to cross a mate.
34:04Right there, where the light's at?
34:06Where the light pool's sitting at right there?
34:07That's fine.
34:08That's where I cross.
34:09If you're crossing over county roads,
34:10which you did to get here,
34:11Right.
34:12You're subject to the same laws.
34:13All right?
34:13Dad checks out.
34:13Push it across the street, then.
34:15I'm just letting you know what's up.
34:16All right, man?
34:16We're not here messing with you.
34:17I got a real call saying that somebody was driving around.
34:19No, no.
34:19You're right here on a...
34:20I came straight from my house to get something to eat,
34:21came across the road.
34:22That's fine.
34:22But somebody calls in, gives us this intersection,
34:24and enters the quad.
34:24I heard somebody on a bike going up and down,
34:26but it wasn't me.
34:26All right.
34:26So now you know that we're not messing with you, OK?
34:28We don't just pull up and talk to random quad guys.
34:30All right, man?
34:30All right, right.
34:31All right.
34:31All the pushback from you, though, is...
34:33The thing about it is, you guys see me every day on this thing.
34:36I never ride it on the road.
34:37I don't think we've ever talked.
34:39No, we haven't,
34:39because you're probably one of the new sheriffs that just got pulled.
34:41No, I don't know.
34:42I've been here for years.
34:43I've been here since 86, bro.
34:44That's fine.
34:45I've been riding this desert since 86.
34:46I'm just saying,
34:46I'm just saying, if we're always crossing paths,
34:48and I've never talked to you,
34:48that kind of lets you know that I'm not messing with you, right?
34:50Right.
34:50OK?
34:52All right.
34:52I'll let you go on your way,
34:53but if you're going to be driving on roads out here,
34:56and we're going to be contacting you,
34:56then, yeah, get your stuff sorted.
34:58We'll leave it at that, all right?
34:59All right.
34:59Yeah.
35:05So we sent him on his way.
35:07I'm sure he was glad about that.
35:08He wasn't too happy to be making contact with us in the first place,
35:11so it ended OK.
35:12You know, I educated him on a few things
35:15in regards to him operating his quad on the roadways
35:17and letting him know he's subject to the same laws as everybody else.
35:22Just another night out here.
35:42I've been with the Pima County Sheriff's Department
35:44for a little over six years now.
35:46I love working midnights.
35:48You know, there's a lot of dangerous people
35:51that like to commit crimes at night,
35:53and that's the kind of people I like to go search after.
36:19We've got a report of a shoplifting.
36:22Just drive around, see if we can find the guy.
36:26We've got a report of a shoplifting.
36:29You know, 145, we've got eyes on the west side of the family dollar
36:33in the ravine.
36:35Hey, Sheriff's Department, bro, let me talk to you.
36:37Yeah.
36:41What you doing?
36:42Sleeping.
36:43You sleeping?
36:44Yeah.
36:45You got any weapons on you?
36:46No.
36:46No?
36:47All right.
36:48Stop it.
36:49Well, we just had somebody do some thieving next door.
36:52I ain't doing anything.
36:53No, that's fine, man.
36:54It might not be you, but we're going to check it out
36:55just because he was last seen heading this direction.
36:58He went and ran in that way.
37:00He went and ran in that way?
37:01Yeah.
37:02Okay.
37:07You said he's all mad running right now?
37:08Yeah.
37:09Do you know what he was wearing?
37:10He was in, I think, black.
37:12Black?
37:13Black?
37:14I think that's a good, kind of strong.
37:16Mind if I just pat you down real quick?
37:19Yeah.
37:20Oh, it was up here.
37:21I heard him racing and racing and I said, man, I don't know
37:24why I'm getting in trouble.
37:25Okay.
37:26All right, you're good, man.
37:27Have a seat.
37:28Yeah, so I initially checked that, the back of the family dollar
37:28Yeah, so I initially checked that, the back of the family dollar
37:32working eastbound and then as I'm coming back, he's just laying
37:36there with the back against concrete.
37:38So I'm just going to trace back and see if there's something
37:40that's back there.
37:42All right.
37:44What is this?
37:47Let me go to the other side of this tree.
37:50That's a lot of snacks.
37:52There we go.
37:55Oh.
37:56I could see the blue shirt with white spots as described
37:59by the clerk and this was laying exactly where I had seen him.
38:02The common thing is to strip down after you do whatever crime
38:05you do, right?
38:06Change your appearance.
38:11Put your hands behind your back.
38:15Let me see your shoes real quick.
38:20All right.
38:22I mean, you're not born yesterday, man.
38:24Right?
38:26Same shoes, same sweatpants.
38:28The only thing he did was he took his shirt off and just kind of
38:31used it as a bag to hold all of his stuff.
38:34The shoes matter because almost 100% of the time when somebody
38:37commits a crime, they don't have time to change their shoes.
38:40Nor does anybody really think about bringing in a second pair of
38:42shoes to change into.
38:44I don't know why people decide they want to steal.
38:47I'm not very good at it.
38:48We usually end up catching them.
39:06Hey, it's 682 on West.
39:07Will you make me at large, please?
39:09Okay, thank you.
39:10Being at large essentially means we can go from a beach two and three,
39:14which are our residential rural areas to B1, which is our more
39:19metro populated area where we border with the city a bit more.
39:23There's just a lot more going on in B1 for the most part on most days.
39:29The vehicle in front of us is showing some signs of impairment.
39:33It's swerving a bit in its lane.
39:35We're just going to have to pull it over.
39:44You made a pretty aggressive lane change, having a little issue staying
39:47in your lane.
39:50Have you had anything to drink tonight, ma'am?
39:54So where are you headed?
39:58All right, just give me one second.
40:01She seemed like she was honestly making up her story as she was going along.
40:04I'm not smelling a strong odor coming from her, but we'll perform a HGN
40:10and see what her eyes look like.
40:13Follow the tip of my finger with your eyes.
40:19All right, ma'am.
40:20Have you been drinking at all tonight?
40:22I don't drink.
40:23Okay.
40:23I understand you say you don't drink.
40:26However, some of the things I've observed is telling me different.
40:29So...
40:31All right.
40:33I promise you I don't drink.
40:38I was at home midnight.
40:39These children messaged me.
40:41The kids said, do you mind giving us a ride?
40:44Okay.
40:45Should you be taking those and driving?
40:47Well, I just took a tiny amount.
40:50But should you be taking those and driving?
40:53No.
40:54I'm just going to have you sit back here for now.
40:57It could be a drug DUI or maybe this is a simple mistake.
41:02Either way, she shouldn't be driving.
41:04So we have to address this.
41:06I've never had a DUI.
41:08I've never been to jail.
41:09Mm-hmm.
41:09You don't have a criminal history.
41:11You don't seem like this is going to be an ordinary thing for you.
41:14Right.
41:15So because of that, instead of giving me a DUI, I'm going to request that the MBD redo your driving
41:22test to make sure you are okay to drive.
41:24You said you have a fiancé, right?
41:25Yeah, absolutely.
41:27Perfect.
41:28You can go ahead and step out, man.
41:30I feel like she is potentially impaired.
41:32However, there are prescription drugs and she isn't abusing them.
41:37Bad as her driving behavior really was, it wasn't necessarily dangerous.
41:41And on top of charging her for DUI, we'd also be charging her with felony endangerment.
41:46Because she has a 15-year-old and two other minors in the car.
41:51And that's a real hammer for someone that seems like they just made a mistake when taking their meds.
41:58She won't be getting arrested tonight, and more importantly, we will be getting her off the road safely.
42:21So you're getting rid of some of those that make sure we bone her crianças because we are not going
42:21yet to keep her off the road safely when we cut off.
42:21Sorry.
42:21Bye.
42:21Bye.
42:21Bye.
42:22Bye.
42:22Bye.
42:22Bye.
42:23Bye.
